Clear Split in Clip

In FCP 7 If I split a clip I could click on the cut and delete it to join the same clip back together. How can I do this in FCPX? I would make an edit I possibly wanted to make and then didn't now it's 2 clips. Please help. Thank you

It appears to work though the selection of a Gap seems to have changed since FCP X first appeared.

  • Clearing Sections of Clips

    Hi
When i clear a section of a clip by highlighting it in yellow using the sliders, normally it will split the clip (say, clip 1) into new sections, clip 1 and clip 1/1, then 1/2, 1/3 and so forth. In a movie i am editing now, it doesnt do this and when i have cleared a part of the clip, the rest of the clip from the end of the first section seems to disappear, any ideas? It has done this before to me then they have miraculously reappeared later in the editing process in the clips board...
    Thanks!

Are you doing this editing on clips that have been placed on the time line or are you doing this to clips that are up on the clip viewer (the clip shelf)?

  • I want to SPLIT A CLIP. That's all. Make one piece into two.

I am looking for the equivalent of the 'Command-T' function in iMovie HD. This is one of the most commonly used actions in processing video, and apparently it doesn't exist. The 'Split Clip' command in iMovie 09 simply does not work for me. At all. EVER. I have yet to find an instance where it isn't grayed out. All I want to do is split a clip, and add a transition between the two.
While I'm on my soap box, the revisions of iMovie since V.6 are without a doubt the most counter-intuitive, joy-sucking applications ever produced by Apple. iMovie made it FUN to edit video; these last two versions make it frustrating and cumbersome.
To reiterate, I want to SPLIT A CLIP INTO TWO PIECES. If anyone here can provide instructions for doing so (as opposed to explaining why it is NOT possible), then kindly do so. Thank you.

Trey, I seriously feel your pain. I'm editing a wedding project in IM '09 and it is literally taking me twice as long to complete the project than it would have in HD. You should be able to make splits in the event browsers, but that's too much like common sense for Apple. They completely mucked up the editing process by doing away with iMovie HD, which by the way is not working well in Snow Leopard.
As for split, I suggest the same thing as above. Put the playhead where you want the split. Us shortcut key, ShiftCommandS. I had problems with it this morning, but it finally kicked in.
I also had a problem when trying delete a selection of a clip. When I clicked delete, it deleted the selection plus the extracted audio of the entire clip from which I took the selection. Not sure what caused that.
I have FCE installed, so maybe I’ll haul it out and try using it for my next project. IM '09 is a pain. I'm not even sure how it's more accessible to general users.

  • Can someone please tell me an easier way to split a clip?

I just recently upgraded to iLife '09. I really miss the old iMovie where all you had to do to split a clip was press command-T, and then delete the part you don't want. Now it has the yellow box that you drag using the mouse and it just is not working for me. Is there a way to go back to the command-T method or just something easier than using the mouse? I'm more of a keyboard person and I like to use the mouse as little as possible.

I'm just learning iMovie '09 (was still using iMovie HD) but I believe that the "Split Clip" command only works in a project, not an event. I found this post and it kinda helped. It appears you basically have to delete a frame and send rejected to trash to make one clip in an event 2 separate clips.

  • How do you split video clips?

I want to split video clips so that they can begin when I want them to and end when I want as well. I'm new to the software and I don't really know how to do some things.

There's a lot of good info in your manuals. Always a good place to start. I'd also reccomend Tom Wolsky's (he's a regular contributor here) books.
Having said that, basically, take your clip and put it in the Viewer. In the Viewer, shuttle around till you find the piece you want .. set an In point where the shot should begin, set an End point where you want it to end. Now grab that shot in the Viewer and drag it over to the right; some little submenus will pop up, choose Overwrite and that puts it into the Timeline. You can also use F10 to overwrite the short to the Timeline.

  • I split my clip in three ways, then deleted the middle clip

I have a question. I split my clip in three ways, then deleted the middle clip, what I do to join these three clips again ? I need some help. Is It only work with the Precision Editor? because i think it s so difficult!

    Not sure I understand.
    What do you mean by
when I cut back on the corner of a clip that connects to another,
If you do what I suggested above you should be able to bring back the original clip to the project from the event without affecting the other clips in the project ( ie without damaging the rest of the other cuts?)
You can drag the original clip (or any clip) to any position in the ' Time-line"
I assume from your post that you are using iMovie 11???

  • I can't split a clip in Imovie '11

I've read the other discussions, but nothing works.  When I take the play head to the spot I want to split and command-shift-S it makes the apple error bonk noise.  when I control-click (for right click) the pop up menu doesn't have the split clip option. see my screen shot.  I'm stumped.

It looks as though you are trying to split a clip in the Event.
Pretty sure the clip has to be in a Project for it to have the SPLIT CLIP option.

  • GarageBand 2013 did not split a clip into separate clips.

I moved my playhead to the exact location that I wanted the first clip to end at and the second clip to begin at.  I then clicked on Edit, then "Split Regions at Playhead."  However, GarageBand did not split the clip.
Please tell me what else I need to do.
    Thanks!
    Montana B.

    Montana,
did you select the region you want to split? It does not suffice to select the track, the region in the track needs to be highlighted.  You can tell if the region is selected, by the lighter upper border, where the name of the region is.  In the example below, the region in the middle is selected, the other regions not.

  • Speedgrade crashes every time I use split into clips function as part of scene detection.

Speedgrade CC (latest version) crashes every time I use split into clips function as part of scene detection.
I can use the keyframe function fine, but if i split it into clips it crashes 9 out of 10 times... so to get the job done i simply keep reopening the project, cliping and praying it works, then it crashes.... and i repeat this until it doesnt crash!
File format im using is a 22min long Prores422 HQ 1080 25P file.
Any ideas?.... im guessing im going to get the old "reinstall the software" one first... anything else?
also have issues with Speedgrade just crashing for no good reason at random times while im grading too but ive come to expect that from the buggy software.

I've got several 1080p mov's that have multiple sequences with 20 to 40 minutes a sequence I've regularly run over to Sg from PrPro. Granted, they're pretty straight forward, mostly simple cuts with a few transitions/wipes, no more than 3 video layers a sequence. Only one has any Ae stuff on it, and again, pretty simple.
But as noted, there are those who do programs for broadcast with it ... I'm wishing one would chime in. Maybe shooternz ... I think he does b-cast work. Vastly more experienced than I am, PrPro, Ae, Sg, Audition ... the "suite". There's several others around here, though they tend to 'hang' in the PrPro forum more than here.

  • Can't split a clip?

Probably a super-dumb newb question, but...
I want to take multiple clips, pulling bits out of each, and editing theme together into one movie. Everything worked fine on the first clip: split it where I wanted to, got rid of the unnecessary, bits, put in transitions...easy peasy.
Dropped the second clip into the timeline tried to do the same thing...no matter what I do, "Modify"->"Split Clip" is greyed out.
Dunno if it helps, but I've attached a Grab of what the iMovie layout looks like. I'm trying to chop up that long clip on the right...
Any advice would be appreciated. It can even be prefaced by, "Hey, dummy." Provided it's helpful, of course.
    iMovie 10.0.5.
    Thanks.

  • PRE9: How to split one clip into two (or more) clips?

I can't believe this is so hard to do... But HOW?

You don't necessarily need to separate the file into individual clips.  When you do a cut on the timeline, this is a virtual cut, leaving the original file untouched but determining what will appear in the output.  You can split the clip into multiple pieces, delete the bits you don't want, add transitions, insert new bits, whatever you want, all without affecting the original file in any way.  Once you're happy, you output a new file using the Share options, and you get a new video file, with your original files still untouched.
If you want to split your file into multiple individual files, you can use the sliders on the time scale, and export (Share) using the Share Work Area Only checkbox.  If you're doing this for purposes of reassembly, it would be better to save the individual clips in as lossless a format as possible, the default AVI format taking considerably more space but not losing quality.  Hint: the sliders can be positioned to the time marker using Alt-[ and Alt-].  Once you've done this, note that your original file will still be there, untouched.
There is also VideoRedo Plus, a cheap program which gives frame-accurate selection and allows rapid subdivision of a piece of footage.  It doesn't re-render as PE9 would (this is where loss of image quality creeps in using compressed formats such as MPEG), copying the original frames.  You can then reassemble the bits using your video editor.

  • Final Cut Pro 7: Split a clip into sections so I can add part slow-motion

The questions in the question tbh. I just have a clip  which i want to slow down part of but i found the only way to do this is to split the clip and then slow down the section. but i dont know how to split it?

While you're visiting the built-in manual system, look up the razor blade tool.

  • Actionscript 2.0 clear all movie clips

I need to figure out how, when you roll over a movie clip, it clears all previous clips showing and then plays its clip

eh that may not be possible, but what the set up is each tooltip is its own layer with the clips pasted in.
In each clip theres about 5 layers that are involved with the animate. My code to activate it is
    on(rollover){
              gotoAndPlay(2);}
that triggers the animation. then theres a simple "close" button that just plays everything in reverse.

  • How do I split a clip?

Today I downloaded the Final Cut X free trial and so far I like it! What I loved was the old iMovie and I've found almost everything I remember from the old iMovie. I haven't found "Split Clip At Playhead."  Let's say I have a 45-minute video clip of five people making speeches. I want to split the clip into five clips, one for each speaker. With the old iMovie I moved the playhead in between the first and second speakers and split the clip, moved the playhead between the second and third speakers and split that clip, etc. Then I just set the in and out points for each clip, move the five clips into the timeline, add transitions and titles, and I'm done. How do I do this in Final Cut Pro X?
What I'd really like would be a document called "Final Cut Pro X for iMovie 1-6 Fans." Maybe I'll write it. :-)

Is this because iMovie was a destructive editor, and Final Cut Pro X is non-destructive? So you do your edting in the timeline, not in the browser window? I guess that makes sense.

  • Cutting / Splitting Audio Clips, plus taking Fade OFF of audio clips

    Hi again all,
I wanted to know if it's possible to split audio clips in two in iMovie '08? I can't seem to find a way to do it, and I've been trying to edit audio in Amadeus and trying to import again, but it's getting too complicated.
Also--when two clips overlap, is it possible to take the Fade Off completely away, so that there is no fade at ALL? I tried playing with the ducking and fade sliders, but with no luck.
    Thanks in advance!
    --Melissa

    Melissa,
to remove audio fade-in/fade-off from audio or video clip, select the clip, press A, toggle fade-in and fade-out to manual and drag both sliders to 0:00
Here I'm just guessing what the actual name of the controls are in the english version of iMovie '08, mine is localized in italian.
As per splitting an audio clip, I don't know how to do either.
