Clearing app cache?

I noticed that certain apps, like Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, are starting to hog up a bunch of memory on my device. When checking the usage details, I don't have the option to clear out the 'documents & data' within the app. I've been reading a few things online which advised that deleting and reinstalling the app is the only way to clear it out on the phone. It seems to be a bit of an inconvenience, especially if I use the apps often and they start accumulating new data all over again after they are reinstalled. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!

Can I jump in here?
I have the same problem.
Facebook has 90mb cached, but Real Racing 3 which is a 22mb app, has 1.3GB cached!!
I hardly use the game, but don't want rid of it.
How do I clear that large cache then?  If I uninstall it uninstalls and deletes all data so I use my way in the game.
Dropbox is the same.  350mb of data and I don't see how to clear it.
If I unlink, and then link again, does it then go to try to add my pics again?

can someone help with directions on how to clear app cache in 3.1.3?  btw...i don't want to reset since it will result in lost apps that no longer offer versions for 3.1.3

All you can do is reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
For the old-app problem. Delete any newer apps from your iTunes library. Then transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Just make sure that you do not update those apps in your iTunes library.

  • Clear app cahce

How do i clear app cache (facebook, twitter) without deleting the app?

It's a windows/mac app.    There is an app called iClean that runs on the phone itself, but I didn't think it was as good in providing enough control over which app caches to clean.
    And yes, it's free.
Or, you can just uninstall your app and reinstall which is free and easy as well.

    Hi - in the app store, I've logged in with no problem, but when I go into my existing purchases and have INSTALL next to everything I've bought, and try to click on them it says;
"There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)".
I've tried restarting, clearing all caches, buying and downloading new apps (which works), and also buying and downloading more music from iTunes too (so I update all T&C's etc too, and update all payment info). But nothing seems to solve this. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot, Greg

ON the firefox, the setting is set to "Never remember history" .
I have a web site which sets the default value on the record per page dropdown list to 100 for every tab.
When I change the value to 5 and then logout. clear the caches/cookies . and then reload the page and then login to the website the value is showing as 5? why is it so? since the default value of the dropdown on fress login should be displayed as 100. I am facing this issue in Firefox 20.0.1 and on Internet explorer its working fine, the default value of the drop down is showing up as "100" . Let me know what behavior is expected on firefox on the above mentioned issue. This relates to firefox browser only.

Are you sure the setting is stored in an HTTP cookie (regular browser cookie), and not on the server or in some other kind of local storage (e.g., Flash LSO)?

When I click on anything in the site I get the message " The page you were looking for doesn't exist."  This website works for everyone else, but not on my iPad 2 or iPhone 5. I cleared my cache and history on the iPad, but it still isn't working.

I live in Germany and my credit card is in my native country of Holland .. then it
    doesn't accept my credit card.
Your first statement explains the second statement. To use the German iTunes Store, you need to prove that you're a resident of Germany (that is required by the content owners who will not allow cross-border sales) and the only way Apple can provide such a verification is by requiring that you enter in either a German credit card or a German-purchased iTunes prepaid card. Since I presume the former is not a possibility, you'll need to do the latter if you wish to purchase content from the iTunes Store. Again, this is not Apple's choice but is forced on them by the content owners as a requirement for Apple being allowed to sell the content. The EU is working on regulations that would force the content owners to allow access pan-EU, but that's still in the works.
You do not need an iTunes Store account to activate and run your iPad, though; at least, I didn't need one for either of my two iPads. If you only want to set up an account so you can get free iPad apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is apparently critical. This seems to come and go, or only apply to App Stores in specific countries, so you may not see the option for "None" when asked for a payment type.
As to the German iTunes Store in English, you can comment to Apple on that via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback

P.S. Regarding "this is the only place for a complaint and that will no doubt get removed because
I'm not full of happy joy sparkles.
As stated in the terms of use to which we all agreed, this isn't a complaint forum, it's a technical support forum. You don't have to be full of "happy joy sparkles", but posts that are nothing but complaints may indeed be removed. If you want to complain to Apple, use the feedback pages.

  • How to clear app data in Open Office?

    Hi,
A few days ago Open Office wasn't responding or something and I force quit the app. Now, when I open it again, it comes up with this query window.
No matter what I click, "Don't Restore Windows" or "Restore Windows", that windows won't go away. Thankfully I can move it over and still use Open Office, but it's pretty anoying, and it won't let me quit the either, I have to force quit it.
Is there a way to clear the apps caches/data or something so it doesn't do this?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

A couple of years late, but for other googelers:
Delete the "org.openoffice.script.savedState" folder in ~/Library/Saved Application State
    Should work!

  • Clear Report cache directory

    Hi,
We are running 12.0.4 EBS version. I want to clear the reports cache directory (/apps/oracle/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_glapp/logs/ora/10.1.2/reports/cache). It has large number of PDF and XML files. How can I delete them since 'rm' command is giving error 'Argument list too long'.
Is same process for clearing reports cache can be used to clear the concurrent cache. It also has large number of out put and log files.
    Regards,
    Farhan Ali

For concurrent manager, you should be running the job "Purge Concurrent Request and/or Manager Data Program " as described in "Concurrent Processing - Purge Concurrent Request and/or Manager Data Program (FNDCPPUR)" [ID 104282.1]
For Reports cache, please review "Reports Cache Directory in Oracle E-Business R12 is Growing Rapidly" [ID 859255.1] as following this note should allow the files to be controlled automatically in future
With regards to your specific question, the issue is with the "rm" command not being able to cope with the number of files. One easy way to deal with it, is to provide a shortened list to the rm command... for example
    rm a*.pdf
    rm b*.pdf
    rm z*.pdf
You could automate this slightly, but I would be nervous to do so without testing, and it will surely be quicker to type the rm command multiple times than to write and test a script :)
    Hope this helps
    regards
    Mike

  • Two Clear System Cache Needed in Two Days since 602 Update

I found out why my battery is worse with the 602 update. Appararently my phone is NEVER GOING TO SLEEP. I forget the name of the service that was keeping it awake. I think it was com.motorola.service.main. After the clear cache, it was good for a day. I took a couple of phone calls and exchanged some text messages and noticed again that my phone was warm. Sure enough, it was stuck again (100% AWAKE even when screen was off for long periods). I cleared the cache again and it has been fine overnight.
I really hope we do get another update because this one is not working too well on my phone (which had few issues with the prior 596 update).

You need to look at what you have installed.....if you have done a factory reset, leave all your apps off for a day and see if the phone itself is draining the battery. I just did a factory reset this past weekend (8/27) and before that, my battery use was attrocious, but after the reset it's not using up the battery as much. Before the factory reset, I had AFK (task killer) installed and I really think it was draining my battery, along with WeatherBug. I don't have those installed after the reset and I see a remarkable difference. Before it, I was having to charge my battery at work by the time it was noon (it sits on the charger at night so it has 100% when I leave for work), but since the reset, I have not had to hook it up to the charger at work. My battery mode is set to performance mode and that doesn't seem to make a difference, even though alot here would say it is gonna drain it the most.
You just have to play with it and see what works and what may be causing it, if that means taking off apps completely and putting them back on one by one to find any differences.

  • Clear iPad Cache of Shared Library

Does anyone know how to clear the cache of iTunes Home Sharing on the iPad? I'm making changes to the sorting of my shared TV Shows and I cannot get the ipad to show my changes. The only way I can figure out is if I restore the device and then connect to home sharing. I've tried restarting the device, the pc, clearing cache content from itunes folder... No luck. Any ideas? Shouldn't iTunes have a clear cache button that tells the devices to re-download all the info about the files?

I just got off a 40min chat with Apple support and they fixed it.  So try the following if you are having the same issues:
    1. Close down the Videos app in your ipad
    2. go to ipad Settings / Videos, select Home Sharing email and signout
    3. go to shared library (mine was on my mac) and close down itunes completely then reopen
    4. go to ipad Settings / Videos and sign into Home Sharing
After I did this and reopened the Video app the shared libraries where all in order.

  • Clear application cache

    Hello all,
I know how to clear Safari's History, Cookies, and Cache in Settings.
My question is: *How do you clear cache from applications*.
    Based on this article:
    +http://www.storefrontbacktalk.com/securityfraud/iphone-payment-peril-mobile-mayh em-omen/+
I know the iPhone stores information typed into applications for up to one year. This could include credit card and other sensitive info. How do you clear the cache of applications?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

    You're welcome.
Even if this were true - the password for an account that is checked/confirmed on a server and not saved with the app is being stored in the app's cache which I don't believe is true, how would someone be able to access the app's cache on your iPhone? Do you use the passcode lock feature?
If your iPhone were lost or stolen, someone would need to know what they are doing to be able to access an app's cache, and I seriously doubt many would waste their time trying to do. The overwhelming majority of dishonest folks will be more interested in using the iPhone or selling it to someone else for profit.
The iPhone makes use of what is called "sandboxing" with all 3rd party apps. All data created and stored by a 3rd party app is sandboxed in its own area on the device which no other apps have access to. All data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. If you want to clear an app's cache, delete the app from your iPhone followed by syncing your iPhone with iTunes to update your iPhone's backup. Follow this by re-installing the app but you will need to re-enter the account's user name and password if needed and be right back where you started. There is no option to do this from the iPhone that I'm aware of and I think your effort to address this will provide you very little if any gain. Use the passcode lock feature on your iPhone to nothing can be accessed on your iPhone in the event your iPhone is lost or stolen.

  • Clearing Safari Cache Automatically when it Quits

I work for a school district that uses Safari 2.0.4 on eMac’s running 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 and the students have their network home folders located on a 10.4.8 Server.
I would like to have Safari clear its cache every time a student quits Safari or logs out, but don’t see a way to have this done automatically. Is there a script or utility out there that clears the cache automatically?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello again,
Ok, let's give this a go then
Personally, for editing scripts I like to use the command line 'vi' editor, but for starting with that may scare you off so lets use the regular TextEditor application for the time being.
Fire up TextEditor and open a new document. Change the type of the document to be a plain text file. This can be done via the Format menu -> Make Plain Text option (if it says Make Rich Text, then the file is already in plain text mode).
In the editor, copy and paste the following, but remove the line numbers I've added:
    1 #!/bin/bash
    2
    3 logFile=/tmp/SafariCleanerLog.txt
    4
    5 echo "-----------------" >> $logFile
    6 echo `date` >> $logFile
    7 echo "" >> $logFile
    8 echo "Deleting Safari cache files in: $HOME/Library/Caches/Safari/" >> $logFile 2>&1
    9 echo "" >> $logFile
    10
    11 rm -rf $HOME/Library/Caches/Safari/* >> $logFile 2>&1
Some lines may appear to wrap around in the webpage, so use the line numbers as your guide to know if something is supposed to fit on one line or not.
    This is what it does:
    - The 1st line indicates what particular shell application to use to execute this script (/bin/bash in this case)
    - The 3rd creates a variable that I'm using to store the path to a log file for what this script is doing
    - Lines 5 to 9 append some logging information to the logfile we've decided to report to
    - Line 11 does the actual deletion of the Safari cache files. rm is short for remove, aka delete, and the -rf means recursively (i.e. all subdirectories in the Safari cache folder) and forceably (i.e. don't askif you are sure for each and every file). The cryptic 2>&1 at the very end is to make any error messages that rm might generate appear in our logfile. If you try out the commands to see how they work, please please please be very careful with rm, once a file has been rm'ed its gone - it doesn't go to the Trashcan
Note that if you want to see more about what each of these commands do, you can use the man pages either from the Terminal itself or here. ('echo' is a built-in command to bash, so you would need to read the bash manpage for information on that)
Ok, so now we have a script. Save that on your Desktop with a name that makes sense for you (e.g. SafariCacheCleaner.sh - sh is the standard extension used to indicate something is a script, it's not required)
Now we need to execute a few Terminal commands to make this work when a student logs out. Fire up the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
The first thing we need is somewhere to place the script that is out of bounds to regular users, students, etc. OS X already has an area for scripts in /Library/Scripts/, so you may want to create your own area under this folder. For example, I created a 'Custom' folder via the following:
    sudo mkdir /Library/Scripts/Custom
You may want to replace Custom with something else, like SchoolAdmin for instance. sudo is a command that gives the executor temporary administration rights. When you press return after typing the above command, you will be asked for a password - enter the password for your current user account and press return (note that you will not see anything appear in the Terminal while you are typing, this is a security feature).
Next up, we need to copy the script to this location and give it the correct permissions to be executed:
    sudo cp ~/Desktop/SafariCacheCleaner.sh /Library/Scripts/Custom/
    sudo chmod 755 /Library/Scripts/Custom/SafariCacheCleaner.sh
In this case, sudo will probably not prompt you for the password as it trusts access for a few minutes. If you leave things for, say, 10 minutes, it would ask you for your password again.
cp is the command for copying files/folders.
chmod is used to change permissions on a file. In this case, 7 means the owner of the file can write/read/execute the file, the first 5 means anyone in the same unix group as the owner can read/execute the file and the second 5 means everyone else can read/execute it.
Lastly, we need to tell OS X that we want this script to run everytime a user logs out. This can be done with the following command (this is one long line that the browser may wrap):
sudo defaults write com.apple.loginwindow LogoutHook /Library/Scripts/Custom/SafariCacheReset.sh
Hopefully, that should be it. You can test it out by logging out of your account and logging back in. The /Users/YourUsername/Library/Caches/Safari/ should be sparkling clean now.
I've tried to be a bit verbose to explain what's going on, so it's not as complex as it may look at first.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask - it's better to be sure of what you are doing when it comes to the Terminal sometimes.

  • I am a Flash developer. When I change a Flash file (SWF) and try to test it, Firefox displays the previous version even though I have cleared the cache. Clearing the cache obviously doesn't clear everything. Why?

I developed a Flash file (SWF) with a light blue start button, placed it on a web server then went to the URL using Firefox (3.6.8). Later I updated the SWF (changed the button to dark blue), replaced the SWF on the web server, opened Firefox and used Tools/Clear Recent History... to clear the cache. Then when I went to the URL to test the replaced SWF it clearly opened the previous version (light blue button). How can that happen if the previous version no longer exists on the web server? Firefox can only be opening the file from its cache, so why is the file still there if I just cleared the cache?

    Your not alone!
I had the identical issue with iPhone config Utility on windows 7 64bit.
A virtual macOS on the same machine didn't have a problem, windows iTunes didnt have a problem. Just a glitch with ICU on windows
I tried everything you did and the only thing that fixed it was to change the appID or app name (I forget which I did).
I don't know where that old app data is stored on the machine, but I deleted all apps, uninstalled/reinstalled ICU and it still would populate and install the old ipa.
I also still periodically get weird errors/glitches deploying to iOS on windows.
It's like some days I need to deploy with ICU, sometimes iTunes, sometimes I need to run the VM mac... SOO frustrating.
It always works one way or another, so the app itself is always fine.
I guess I really need to look into that new direct deployment option...
