Clearing history, cookies and cache

Hi,
After noticing that YouTube was freezing more and more when I use it, I decided to try clearing history, cookies and cache through 'settings' 'Safari' then 'clear'.
The problem is that I don't think anything is happening when I do this. I still seem to have all my history in YouTube and Google, and I am not sure how to find out if Temporary or Cache files have deleted. I noticed that one of the postings suggested that I first need to close multiple Safari pages but this doesn't seem to have done anything either.
Can anyone recommend how to:
a- force a clearing of these files; and
b- check if temporary or cache files have deleted?
Thanks!

Try to set the network.http.spdy prefs to false on the <b>about:config</b> page.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

    flytnn,
after a fresh install, Spotlight will need to reïndex the files on your internal disk — that happens each time a fresh installation takes place.
I see that you have OS X 10.9.2 installed. Are you planning on installing the 10.9.3 update?

That is usually the fix but try this now.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. See if that helps.
You can also try this - quit Safari. From the home screen - Double tap the home button and your recent apps appear the bottom. Tap and hold down on the Safari icon until it wiggles. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the app. Tap the home button twice. Restart the iPad.

  • I cannot access the internet, I tried to answer that said to go to settings, safari, tap clear history, cookies and cache, cut off, then on, but it did not work.  When I go to internet the screen is grey??? please help I am a new user!!

I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad.  When I did that twice, it did not work.  How long does it take for the clear history to work?  I am a brand new
user of the ipad2 and I am disappointed that this is happening already.

Have you been able to access the internet previously and now it's suddenly not working, or are you still trying to access the internet for the first time on your iPad?  Are you at home trying to connect through your home router?  If you are at home, did you put your home routers encryption code as your password?  The encryption code is what your iPad is looking for and it is usually found on the router and is typically a 13 digit combination of letters and numbers.  Let us know......

  • My first generation iPad suddenly stopped opening Safari.  I cleared history, cookies, and cache, and Safari still won't open.  Any suggestions?

When I attempt to open a Safari window on my first-generation iPad, it opens to a blank screen.  I can see the web address bar and the search box, but the rest of the page is white.  I cleared cookies, history, and cache, but still nothing happens.  The iPad is 3G, and I have tried to open Safari using both 3G and my home WiFi.  My wife has an iPad 3 WiFi, and hers opens without issue.  Any suggestions on what I might do?  Thanks!

    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
    2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Apps
    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen
    5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

  • Cookie settings are correct;history, cookies and cache have been cleared.Still some sites say I need to enable cookies

Cookie settings are correct;history, cookies and cache have been cleared.Still some sites say I need to enable cookies.

You need to enable third-party cookies if you want to logout from Hotmail. If you do not want to enable third-party cookies (I don't) then you need to remove the live.login and passport.net cookies yourself.

  • Why do I have to resest site ids or password everytime I clear history, cookies, or caches (but I'm not clearing passwords)?

I go to clear browsing history, caches, and or cookies to help Firefox run better, and even though I do not ever ask to clear logins & or passwords somehow the system doesn't remember one or the other and I have to reenter both or just the password to log into my favorite sites.

"Remember me" details for sites are stored in cookies, if you delete the cookies you have to log into the site again.

  • Netflix. Whenever I watch a movie, there's an ad bar at the top. It went away after I cleared all cookies and cache, but two days later, it's back.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • Hello! i can't access both hotmail an facebook. I have cleared my cookies and caches but it didnt help! what should i do?

This problem is only with secure site with https

Do you get an error message page about the secure certificate, or a more general message that the page couldn't be loaded? Or does the page load but not work correctly?
Not sure this is relevant, but just in case: Firefox 23 has a new feature to block "mixed content" in a page. This article describes how to spot that condition and address it: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]

  • I have a s-l-o-w MacBook.  I cleared the cookies and cache.  I tried loading Norton

I tried loading Norton Internet Security because I thought I had a virus.  Any ideas to speed things up?

Never ever ever download Not on AntiVirus it will do more ham than any good. Remember you are running a Mac not a PC and you don't have to worry about Viruses.
Anything you would or could download  would be a Malware, and would thus cause more issues rather than fix anything.
This is from John Galt and should be followed to a tee.
Back up your Mac, if you have not already done so. To learn how to do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
Then, consider running EtreCheck and posting its report. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Do not download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).

  • Upgraded to IOS 6.1.2, now WiFi is greyed out. Did a complete reset of all settings, contents, network settings, subscriber settings.  Also cleared history, cookies and data as an extra measure.

ALSO, used itunes to reinstall ios.  Same issue.

I don't use Facebook, but I can say that clearing the cache every time you shut down is excessive - unless you're sure the cache is corrupt you should leave it alone.  It exists to speed up your browsing experience by loading frequently requested items from your drive rather than downloading them fresh from the internet each time.  So, I would say stop clearing your cache and see what happens.
As for clearing cookies: I'm not sure what method you currently use, but I would recommend you download and install CCleaner.  It's free, and allows you to build up a list of cookies that you want to clear and those you want to keep, before deleting them.
Both of these may help speed things up by reducing the amount of work Safari has to perform whilst browsing.  Regardless, I'd say that, unless there's a reason you've not mentioned for performing the "purging" that you do, making these two changes should see improvements in general web browsing if not specifically when loading Facebook.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
