Clearing out full HD

Hello, I have been perusing the answers for a full HD, and have a question. Here's the particulars.
I have 74GB in use
and 197.67 mb available
I have mostly photos and some music on my computer- no movies...
In looking at the break-down of the files-
30GB in backups
26 GB in users- looks like alot of this is iLife backups.
I have never backed up to external drive or cd/dvd's.
So the question I have is- can I delete the backups? The ones from 6 months ago? Or what should I do to create more disk space?

Welcome to the Forum.
I guess you can delete old backups,if you don't need it and have a new once.
Get What Size and Monolingual.
You can check your HD space and
delete languages, printers drivers and some apps you never use.
And run OnyX to clean cashes.
P.S. I have 74GB in use and 197.67 mb available
How is this possible !?

  • My  iTunes Library cleared out after the forced shutdown, how to recover it?

So here is the thing, yesterday as usual, i was adding songs to my 10,000 tracks library's super organized as i do most of the time. Then i decided to shut down the computer  instead of just putting in of just hibernating him as i always do.. So my habit was to just close the laptop, this time i had it clicked to shut down but then i closed it before it really turned off. That means today when i opened it back it still was asking me if i really wanted to force quit the applications i had still opened, i said 'yes' and then the computer truly shut down. Then i restarted it again, opened browser, and when i open iTunes ALL my library was simply gone!
I know that i didnt trashed any of the .itl or .xml files the day before so i really shocked when i saw it I dont know why did it happened, i wasnt updating iTunes or anything else..
I went to 'iTunes' Folder in 'Music' folder, and there were the 'iTunes Library' .itl and a 'iTunes Library (2)' files along with the usual Extra, Genius .itl files and the .xml too.
So ive searched on the thrash that by casualty still had files from TEMP folder i had erased a few weeks ago, and there only Extra and Genius .itl files but no iTunes Library .itl file... So it was not a thing happened by my manual deleting.
I've tried re-installing the latest version of iTunes i found on the site (it was just a 'repair' since the version was up to date) and opened it again and there was still nothing :/
I checked 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and f****! The newest file was from March this year (2012), i knew that ive added hundreds of new songs since that date and one other thing, i knew that date was not the latest update ive done to iTunes, the last one was for sure way after that kinda something in May or June so i dont know too why did it not appeared that .itl file.
So i tried opening that 'iTunes Library (2)', and from my 10k songs it would only show ~8900 and then i tried the 'iTunes Library' from March and it would only show 9000 songs, So i guess im ****** up by 1000 songs difference... That is a lot a still, since they were all organized by Name, Artist, Album, Genre, Year, Rate, Times Played, Artwork,etc..
So now i have serious problems..
Do you have any suggestion on ways i could follow in order to find my 'Yesterday' Library infos and songs? With all the stuff it had? Like rewinding in time?
Even if you dont, and presuming i would want to add those 1000 missing files from the iTunes Music folder where, dont know why, says i have 14k songs, which is very strange since i always delete to recicle bin all the songs i want to clear out from the Library so they wont stay in folder and not in iTunes, so how could i add those missing 1000 without adding those other 9000 that would be repeated??
Please, somebody help me with this, because at this moment im really out of solutions and my Library and its organization are "my babies" and it would be a devastating loss to me if i have to ruined this way :S

Reinstalling iTunes won't ever repair damaged libraries or find lost files.
Unlike nearly all Windows software double-clicking an iTunes Library file does not necessarily open the selected database. Rather, iTunes opens the last database it successfully opened, or if that was in the "normal" <User's Music>\iTunes location, but is missing, it will create a new empty library.
You can open an alternate library file, or create a new one, by holding down shift as you start iTunes. Although you can open the library files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder this way, your library will perform better if you restore the archived library database to the main iTunes folder in the way that I have described.
Your most recent library may be present in the main iTunes folder as a .tmp file, or recoverable via a file undelete tool, however either of these files, if found, may be partially corrupt getting you no further forward.
The two most recent releases of iTunes were June 11th and March 28th 2012..
Yes I read your post, but I don't know if you know all of the above. If you had a full backup of your library you could just restore that. It is possible that what you've tried so far hasn't yet brought back the most complete version of your library that is available to you. As a last resort you will have to work with what you have and add in whatever media is not in that version of your library, accepting the loss of recently added ratings, playlists & play counts.
You can simply add the entire iTunes Media folder using File > Add Folder to Library folder which should ignore everything already in the library and only add new (to that database) stuff. If there is any chance that your iTunes media folder contains .m3u playlist files the import process will also import all of those, which may not be what you want. iTunes Folder Watch would then present a better approach.

  • Clearing out ACR 6.4 RC

    Hi everybody!
I have CS5 installed on my machine and when I purchased my T3i, I was eagerly awaiting the release of ACR that would support my new camera. So, when the Beta came out, I quickly installed it. It has since expired, and the full version of ACR 6.4 is available. I downloaded it, and it gives me errors on installation. I read somewhere (cannot find the link in many Google searches now) that this is a somewhat common problem, and that Adobe has provided an app that will clear out Beta files to make way for the new releases. Does anyone know the app in which I speak? I'd really like to get the full ACR 6.4 installed. Thanks for any help!
    Dave

What sorts of errors are you getting?  Camera RAW 6.4.1 is the current version.  You might try downloading and running the installer manually if the update inside Photoshop didn't work or the download somehow got corrupted.  You should be able to find the ACR update on:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
If you want to try clearing things out, manually:
Camera RAW installs three types of files, a plug-in called Camera RAW.8bi, a set of camera profiles that have .dcp extensions, and a set of lens profiles that have .lcp extensions.
On my Windows 7 32-bit computer the locations are:
    The camera-raw plug-in is in:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats
The Adobe-supplied camera and lens profiles are under two places:
    C:\ProgramData[Hidden]\Adobe\CameraRaw
    C:\Users\All Users\Adobe\CameraRaw
The means the folder won't be shown in Windows Explorer unless you have enabled viewing hidden and system files in the Explorer / Folder Options / View area, but you can still enter in the path (w/o ) into an Explorer address area and get there.

  • Clearing out vaults - something kendall said - clarification?

    kendall -
in an earlier post you outlined instructions for removing projects from the library in a way that leaves thumbnails still accessible. (pasted, below) i just had one question about that method:
you say to open the library with Show Package Contents, and then to open the project i want to remove in the same way. i'm with you so far in that regard. but THEN you say "create a smart album looking for all image types - and remove them. You are deleting all the master files" - are we still in finder here or back in aperture? can you create a smart album within the finder? you lost me on that step.
now, when i look in package contents for an individual project i get what appears to be a few aperture info files, as well as folders for the import labeled something like "2005-12-06 @ 03/34/16 PM - 1.apimportgroup" - should i just remove those folders? however, INSIDE of that folder there seems to be a different folder for EACH SINGLE IMAGE/MASTER FILE.
this does seem like a lot of work just to remove a project and clear off space.
what files should i be looking for/clearing out and what files should i be leaving intact in the library for your method?
    thanks!
    msg
Aha! Then for you there is indeed a more advanced option.
First, you will still need to export the project and save it somewhere.
But then the next step is this - make a top level folder in Aperture and call it "Archive". Move your project into there (to let you know not to touch it after the next step).
Now, open up the Aperture library in Finder (Show Package Contents). Find your project inside that Archive folder. Open that project in Finder as well (same method), and create a smart album looking for all image types - and remove them. You are deleting all the master files.
Now restart Aperture. Visiting that project you'll be able to see those images at up to 1024x680 (may differ slightly depending on the aspect ratio of your camera). All your keywords will still be there to search on. You simply can't print or export or adjust these "offline" images in any way (and the images will have an "offline" badge on them to let you know they are in that state).
The Vault will have the full version of the project replaced by this offline version, which is why you needed to back up the project.
Granted this is going a little off into the weeds to do this and is not officially supported by Aperture. But it's not hard to do and works pretty well for something it's not supposed to be able to do at all. More importantly the fact that so much of this works (offline badges and working projects with missing master files) means that there is a pretty clear plan from Aperture to support something like this in the future.

    <...>
you say to open the library with Show Package
Contents, and then to open the project i want to
remove in the same way. i'm with you so far in that
regard. but THEN you say "create a smart album
looking for all image types - and remove them. You
are deleting all the master files" - are we still in
finder here or back in aperture? can you create a
smart album within the finder? you lost me on that
    step.
That was in Finder - the goal in that step is to find all of the master files in Finder and remove them. The reason to use the smart folder is that while you can go inside the project import folders where all of the images really live, each image is inside of its own directory so it makes doing it by hand rather slower than using a smart folder to find all of the RAW files that library contains.
Because Aperture is not working with images but only editing instructions, you can be sure that any image you find under a project is probably a master file that can be removed.
now, when i look in package contents for an
individual project i get what appears to be a few
aperture info files, as well as folders for the
    import labeled something like "2005-12-06 @ 03/34/16
    PM - 1.apimportgroup" - should i just remove those
folders? however, INSIDE of that folder there seems
to be a different folder for EACH SINGLE IMAGE/MASTER
    FILE.
Yes, that's the case - you cannot remove those directories because the other files stored alongside the master files hold data about versions and keywords, and Aperture will not like it if they are gone! It will probably re-create them from the database (where all that data is also held) but I am not sure if the whole import folder is gone it would do so.
this does seem like a lot of work just to remove a
    project and clear off space.
what files should i be looking for/clearing out and
what files should i be leaving intact in the library
    for your method?
Indeed, a lot of work and the reason to use the smart folders to find only the master RAW (or TIFF or JPG or whatever you impotred) files and remove them quickly.
Just to be clear about this after you have emptied out the project in this way you'll really only be able to search and view images at a fairly large size - around 1024x640 at most. You'll not be able to print or export or edit, but again keyword searches will find images in projects modified in this way. You may want to rename the prject as "ARCHIVED" or something along those lines so you know not to use it for anything "real".

    rwethereyet,
Keeping your pictures safe is definitely important! Once you have synced the saved pictures to your phone you can transfer them from the phone to your computer. Are you using the Verizon Cloud Desktop app?

  • Unable to clear out the stock in SAP

    Hi Expert!
Need your help. I have an issue, my user wants to clear out the stock in SAP because they are the old stock and there's no stock in actual warehouse for those materials actually. it is just in the system taht showing those materials have stock in warehouse. but however, she's unable to clear out the stock. So when i check in the system, the materials are batch managed and still have open POs dated on 2003 which has already old.  Is it the reason why she can't clear the stock? Do i need to ask her to off the batch management for those materials, then delete the POs and then only she able to clear the stock? Please advise on the solution..
    Thanks.

    hi

  • Questions on Mackeeper and clearing out junk! Help!

I downloaded Mackeeper and it told me junk was slowing down my Mac but after it asked for $88 i quickly uninstalled it. Im worried it left a virus that slowed down my Macbook Pro. Even tho everyone says Macs don't need antivirus ware, is there something i can run to make sure there isn't anything harmful leftover? Also what is safe to use to clear out junk to improve how my Mac runs?

Don't install junk (like MacKeeper) to begin with. A program to accomplish what you describe and is safe to use does not exist.
If you have reason to believe your Mac is not performing as it should, please explain. Specific guidance can be provided but it would help if you would correlate that unexpected performance with certain activity, such as the time it takes to start up, to launch programs, to shut down, to load webpages, etc. Provide as much detail as you can.
Attaching an EtreCheck report will preclude asking additional questions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Do not download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.

  • Not able to clear out a formula field value when variables are equal to 0

I am trying to calculate the difference between a formula field from a main report and a formula field from a subreport. When i run the report i get a correct difference calculation only when both formula fields have a value different than 0. When both values are 0 then the difference calculation shows the last item quantity from the formula field in the subreport that had different values than 0.  It looks like the difference calculation is not being clear out before jumping to the next value calculation.

try to clear the variable values once done with calculation like
    whileprintingrecords;
    shared numbervar i:=0;

    Please help! xxx

The Aperture 3.4 installer has a problem and may cause an incomplete install. You should remove your current installation and reinstall from your original installation media, then upgrade again, see this support article by Apple:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
Post back, if there are still problems after reinstalling.

  • I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network, and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

Settings > wi-fi  then tap on the little blue arrow next to the network you want to change. You have to tap on the blue arrow and not on the name.
Now at the top tap on "forget this network".
After that, the iPhone will think your home network is a new network and will ask you for the password to connect.

  • How to clear out Launchpad in Mavericks?

Does anyone know how to clear out and remove all the app icons from Launchpad in Mavericks?
Used to be able to use this code in terminal to clear it out:
sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;"; killall Dock
But it doesn't work anymore in Mavericks. Any ideas?
I don't want to actually delete anything, just remove all the icons from Launchpad because I never use Launchpad and it's annoying.
    Thanks

I've done that. But you press the Launchpad key and all the icons pop up.
So you simply want a blank sceen to pop up?
    Don't press the Launchpad key.
Or turn the Launchpad key off.
System prefs > Keyboard - Shortcuts.
Select Launchpad & Dock and uncheck Launchpad.

  • HT201317 I add all photos taken on camera roll to individual albums. However, once a photo is deleted from camera roll, it's also deleted from the albums where it also resides. Is there a way to delete or clear out the camera roll but keep them in albums?
