Clearing out unwanted networks on AirPort menu
I keep picking up another network when I turn my computer on. It is much weaker than mine. How can I clear out the networks I do not want listed in the airport menu?
Fairly new to Macbook Pro. Thanks for any help.

System Preferences>Network>Airport - unlock the padlock, click on the Advanced button>Airport - use the minus sign to delete the unwanted networks after highlighting them. Lock the padlock when done.

It's possible. But, interfererence can also come from cordless phones, other wireless networks in your neighborhood, and any number of other sources.

I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network, and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?
Settings > wi-fi then tap on the little blue arrow next to the network you want to change. You have to tap on the blue arrow and not on the name.
Now at the top tap on "forget this network".
After that, the iPhone will think your home network is a new network and will ask you for the password to connect. -
AirPort Menu not showing other networks except the one it's connected to.
AirPort menu is strange indeed. Only for the first time, it shows the list of all available networks.

All networks in Airport dropdown menu are locked. Help
All networks in Airport dropdown menu are locked. They have the closed lock symbol beside them. How do I unlock them so that I can change the security settings. They are currently WPA Personal. I need them to be WPA2 Personal and can't change them.
I'm using a linksys wcg200, so "passphrase" doesn't work for me with apple using a different algorithm to generate them. I have to use the actual WEP key. If I prefix the WEP key with 0x, it still doesn't work. I just bought this machine today, and it came with 10.4 installed. I was able to connect to the Linksys before I did a clean install, but now I can't provide the password (it doesn't like the WEP key as the password).

Limiting available networks listed in airport menu
Where we live there are many many wireless networks. What bothers me is that all these networks are listed in the airport menu bar. Is there any way to get rid of these so I can easily reach the two networks that we use, without doing all that scrolling thru the others?

The short answer is no. However, if you choose a particular network, Airport will remember your selection and automatically join it the next time you boot up and are in range of that network. So the problem of having to choose a network from a long list does not arise.
Of course, if you don't want to join your last connected network then you would have to scroll through the available networks and choose accordingly.

I've got a brand new MacBook Pro running 10.4.10. Everything is great until I bring it to work and try to connect to the network here. Sometimes I can connect wihtout a problem (It is a Netgear base station using WEP 128 bit hex security).
I almost always experience difficulty loggin in. When I select the name from the Airport dropdown, the menu bar icon flashes on and off at roughly three second intervals. No error message is produced, and I've been unable to track down reference to this condition in the supplied manuals.
I don't have any issues connecting to my home network, and this is the only Wi-Fi network I've had this issue with. Clearly, it seems a problem with the router, but I'm asking this question here because I can't get clear messaging from Airport about what is going on and nobody else here seems to have this problem (there are about as many Macs as PC's, most new MacBooks).

my MBP 13" Mid 2010 running 10.6.4. has similar problems. I like to use it closed lid connected to an external display with apple usb keyboard. In closed lid mode airport connection fails several times or I do get a poor connection, e.g. one or two curves in the airport menu bar icon with significant lower connection speeds. I do connect to a airport extreme n station with does its job rock solid. as my wife uses a two year old macbook and I have got an G4 with a sonnet airport card running both without problems even from a greater distance in our home it seems to me that the macbook pro has serious problems operating with the internal wifi antenna in closed lid mode, maybe due to shielding from the lid?
Has anybody experienced the same problem or successfully found a way to solve this problem? When using open lid mode wifi problems never occurred, but that's not the preferred option for my desktop table. -
Problems with DSL wireless network finding Airport Express to play music
Can anyone help me out here....
I have an airport express that I can not get my wireless network to find. I plug it into the ethernet to set it up then it reads.... "AirPort Utility was unable to find your base station after restarting. The settings for this base station have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the base station. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again." I am not trying to do nothing more then plug a powered speaker into it to stream my itunes to another room. Im not trying to use it as a bridge or anything like that. I am using a verizon supplied Westall DSL modem/router.Hi. I think that you want to set up your Airport Express as a client to your router. Be sure to disable your WEP on your router otherwise your AE won't be able to communicate with it. You can restablish it when you are done.
Another point is that, when using WEP, the airport express might create a different HEX key than your router -- even if you use the same passphrase. Check your router's hex number, copy and paste that into the space provided in the Airport Express's admin utility.
Make sure that you identify your SSID on the Airport Express, too. -
Unknown networks on Airport Express
I just noticed that there are 3 networks listed on my Airport Express that I know nothing about. They are very personalized so they must have been added by individuals. How could this happen and how can I delete them and keep them out of my Airport Express?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Please describe in complete detail what you do in order to see those three networks. If you mean that you see those under the AirPort menu bar item on your Mac, those networks aren't "on your AirPort Express", they're just other people's wireless networks that you happen to be able to see. -
Is there anyway to remove unwanted networks from showing up in my airport menu. There are a lot of wireless networks in my area and the list goes on and on. I am wondering if there is a setting or something that I am missing. I dont want this to effect me when I travel but at home it gets annoying.
I thought that might be the case. I just wanted to give it a try, maybe there was some trick or third party software that would handle the situation. Now, is there anyway that I can block my computer from joining those networks because a few of them are unsecured and when I come home it will automatically pick up on one of them.

How do i use my time capsule and extend the network with airport express
I have a new iMac and Time Capsule, how do i extend the network with airport express. My time capsule does have a guest net work, and logins and passwords? I am no computer person. So for me it would have to be spelled out.

Note.
You cannot extend the guest network unless everything is up to date 7.6.3 firmware. And that is only with the TC as the main router in the network.
All apple routers can be configured as the main wireless or as the extend wireless.. so don't worry if a post uses express or extreme or TC.. they are for wireless, the same thing. -
10.4.5 - mac mini can't connect to network via airport since upgrade
I've been experiencing problems since upgrading to 10.4.3. Mainly, I've noticed that I can't easily connect to our wireless home network all the time. The pattern has been that I start by shutting down my computer completely. When I start up it again, it can't connect to the network. I have to create a new profile and then it will connect. That was buggy, but at least I found a hack. However, since upgrading to 10.4.5, I can't connect to our home network at all. The Internet Connect application says that I am connected to the base station, however I can't connect to the outside world via a shell, browser or email application. Our network is secured with a WEP and the base station is a D-Link. I searched the forums for some tips, but didn't find anything. Pointers appreciated.
Be very careful about the sequence you do it. You must make sure that the airport connection is turned off (i.e. the airport menu icon looks more like a profiled eyeball without the iris than a series of lines like the towers of hanoi). Then create a new location in the Airport network preference, and make sure that these settings are there under Options
1. Keep looking for recent networks
2. Automatically add new networks to the preferred network list.
3. Change the status of Enable interference robustness.
And by default, join preferred networks in the Airport location.
