Clearing paragraph formatting with Ctrl-0

This is a FYI.
I've always cleared paragraph formatting with Ctrl-0, but it doesn't seem to work anymore (PC, Dreamweaver CC 2014.1). Ctrl-0 is still set in the keyboards shortcuts to set paragraph formatting to 'None,' but it just doesn't work. I tried changing the shortcut to something else and it worked fine. I then tried changing it back to Ctrl-0 and it said it was already assigned to '100% view.'  So I found that shortcut, cleared it, and then assigned Ctrl-0 to Clear Paragraph Formatting and all is good now.
G

Sounds like they probably changed some keyboard shortcuts to mimic browser shortcuts.
Good to know.

  • Replace a paragraph format with another in the every page

I am doing some cleanup before exporting and I don't know much about FrameMaker....
I want to replace the paragraph format ABC with XYZ in every page, how would I do this?
I  also have a paragraph format I want to delete and make it just a Normal paragraph  in every page, I image it will be the same process as 1?
    Your help is appreciated

    Try this …
make a back-up just in case
find a paragraph with the style you want to apply (XYZ, in your example)
select Edit > Copy special > Paragraph formatthis copies the format to the clipboard
    open the Find/Change dialogue
put the cursor in a paragraph using the format you want to replace (ABC in your example) and select Paragraph tag from the Find pulldownif you're in luck, FM may well read the current format from the cursor position; if not, type it in
select By pasting from the the Change pulldown
click [Change] to see whether the result is what you expect
click [Change all] once you're feeling confident
Use the same technique to replace all occurrences of the style you want to delete (PQR, f'r instance) with another style, then delete PQR using the paragraph designer

but is it a script or smarform:
    if it's a script:
You define a paragraph format with a single tab
    eg:
    Paragarph format   tab1
        P1                         5   char
    define the text like below:
P1 (a),,This is the test form for printing the
    P1 ,,purchase order.
    If its a Smartform:
    create a template with 2 nodes & 2 rows:
in 1st node of 1st row, create a text element| and place (a).
in 2nd node of 1st row, create a text element| with 'This is the test form for printing the'.
in 2nd node of 2nd row, create a text element|  with 'purchase order'.
    Hope it works!!

  • Script Paragraph Format-TAB position Problem....

In Script- Medruck , There is a line:
IM   ,,,,,,Qty. ,,Unit   ,,Deliv. date ,,,,&ETUHRTXT&
where IM is a paragraph format with TAB positions at:2,3,23,24,34,40,51,57.
what is the meaning of ,,,,,,Qty ????
what is the difference in writing :
    IM ,,Qty,,Unit,,Deliv. date,,&ETUHRTXT&                                 AND
IM   ,,,,,,Qty. ,,Unit   ,,Deliv. date ,,,,&ETUHRTXT&
How would the Display look like??

    Hi Srikar again,
If you are putting one tab position after every field, in this case count tab position from the starting i.e. from first variable and go on countin till end . This will take you adding position one after other and it will not overlap.
    e.g. Mat,,qty,,price
    and tab position as 1 : 5  2: 10 3: 15 4:20
then mat will start at 1 to 5 and qty will from 10 onward.

  • Paragraph Format for Notes, Tips & Warnings With Graphics

I have been reading Publishing Fundamentals and it says you can create a paragraph format that uses the Frame Above Pgf & Below Pgf and Graphics Frames to create a Paragraph Style for Notes, Tips, Warnings, etc. that includes lines above and below and a graphic to the side.
I am attaching a FrameMaker file that shows what I have been able to accomplish and also shows what I really want. To look at this file, save it and rename, dropping ".text" from the file name.
I am using FrameMaker Version 8.0p277 (the Technical Communications Suite version). My colleagues all have FrameMaker 8 (not the Tech Comm Suite version) and I need to share my template with them.
I appreciate any and all suggestions,

Search Google for "siliconprairie autotext" (without quotes) for an inexpensive tool, and "reficons" (without quotes) for a free tool. They both are useful for this kind of thing.

  • Paragraph format drop-down not opening automatically with F9

    Hello,
I use FrameMaker 9.0p237 on Windows 7. When I am exiting a document and press the F9 key, the paragraph format drop-down appears in the bottom left of the window. However, the drop-down does not open automatically. I must manually open it or type in the name of a paragraph format. When I used Windows XP, it opened automatically and I could easily see what options I could choose when typing, or just click one. This is slowing my process at editing because it is tedious to manually open the drop-down. I can't easily type the formats' names because I do not yet remember them by heart. Please see attached screenshot of area of window in question.
Is there a way I can get this drop-down to open automatically like it used to? I sure hope so. Thank you.

Thanks to everyone to responded to my question... In summary, I would categorize this as a bug in the product.  It really slows down my ability to edit quickly.  I'll work more toward memorizing the paragraph format names so I can simply type them.  Thanks again.

  • Use of "Next paragraph same page" check box in paragraph format of SCRIPT?

    Provide example if possible.

    Hello.
You probably know the idea of PROTECT command. It makes that a paragraph wont break in two. If it fit's totaly in one page it will print in that page. If not, it will print totaly in the second page (won't break at the middle).
The checkbox you are asking, makes the same with two paragraphs. This means that if you have paragraphs A and B (A becomes first) and if paragraph A has that option, the next paragraph won't break, and appear in the second page. If paragraph A is in first page, paragraph B will print in first page too, or they will both print in second page.
    Try it.
    Best regards.
    Valter Oliveira.

  • Print out lists of formats with their settings

I would like the ability to print out a complete list of paragraph, character, table, and cross-reference formats (with their settings) for inclusion in a local style guide.

    Julee,
Those files were .zip files wrapped in 7zip wrappers - very strange. Any way, I've attached the MIF_munch here in a single .zip file.
Note: the file is named Mif_munch.zip.txt to fool the upload file type restrictions. Just delete the .txt extension and unzip.

  • Undoing Paragraph Formatting

I may just be missing something simple here, but I'm not having any luck undoing (via FlowOperation.undo()) any paragraph formatting. This is using the TLF that comes with Flex SDK 4.0.0.5489.
I'm applying all my FlowOperations via the EditManager, for example using editManager.applyLeafFormat() to apply bold/italic/fonts etc, and calling undo() on these works fine.
However when I use applyFormat/applyFormatToElement() and specify not a leaf format, but a paragraph format (for example when applying a leftMargin to a ParagraphElement), I get a FlowOperationEvent dispatched, and an addition to the UndoManager's stack, but calling undo() has no effect on the TextFlow leaving me with the modified paragraph(s) but no way to undo.
Does anyone know why these Paragraph formatting operations would be one-way only?
I'm also thinking this could be something to do with the SelectionState, it's not very clear how/why you need to specify a SelectionState when calling applyFormatToElement() given you are providing the Element you would like to apply it to. Can anyone describe the role of the SelectionState in this case and perhaps whether this could be affecting the undo?
Just to provide some extra info, I am generally applying my ParagraphFormat-ing via CompositeOperations and I'm using a combination of element.getAbsoluteStart() and element.textLength to get my SelectionState when applying paragraph formats to certain elements that are *not* the current selectionState as defined by the EditManager.

    Hi Robin,
Thanks for your help on this... OK in my code I'm not using any direct calls to change the TextFlow so hopefully undo doesn't get disabled, I'm either using:
      EditManager.applyXXXXFormat(format...);
...or where I'm modifying several elements, e.g. "align the selected paragraphs"...
      EditManager.doOperation(aCompositeOperation);
I'm listening to FLOW_OPERATION_END and storing a reference to the operation that has been performed so that I can later undo it. This is either a format operation or a composite operation depending on what was done. In each case the "generation" increases by 1 after each operation as expected.
I've tried performing the undo via:
      1. EditManger.undo();
      2. theOperation.undo();   (followed by an updateAllContainers())
For method 1, I see another FLOW_OPERATION_END event, and the "generation" decreases by 1, returning back to what it was as you describe*.
For method 2 I don't see the complete event, and therefore I'm not sure what generation I'm looking at, but*...
*In both methods 1, and 2 I see no visual change after the undo, the alignment never reverts back to before the original operation.
If it helps, here are my traces when applying a VerticalAlign.MIDDLE to the TextFlow via applyFormatToElement():
      Generation before: 46
      Calling editManager.applyFormatToElement(editManager.textFlow, format);
      FLOW_OPERATION_END: event.operation = [object ApplyFormatToElementOperation]
      Generation after: 107
      EditManager.undoManager.canUndo() = false
      FLOW_OPERATION_END: event.operation = [object UndoOperation]
      Generation after: 46
      EditManager.undoManager.canUndo() = false
I think the most striking thing here is clearly it says there is no undo available in the UndoManager. So somehow something is disabling it, but there's so little code I can't see where that happens.
I'm not totally sure I understand your advice to try the direct manipulation in order to get the undo working, should I do that as well as the EditManager approach, if so, before or after doing it via EditManager?
    Thanks again,
    Richard

  • How do I un-clutter list of hundreds of paragraph formats

When I pull down the menu of paragraph formats I see a HUGE number of them scrolling down beyond my screen.  God forbid I should ever have to choose one that begins with a letter late in the alphabet.  Help files mention a catalog window but I have looked everywhere for this mythical thing and can't find it.  If I do find this catalog, can I delete all the tags I don't need for this one document without losing them permanently for all documents?  Can I set preferences to have new documents list just a few of my favorites without dealing with this enormous cumbersome list every time?

    Paul
    Hi, Paul:
Paragraph, character, and table format definitions are stored in each file.
To delete formats from the paragraph or character format catalog, open the catalog with Format > Paragraphs > Catalog, or Format > Characters > Catalog, click Delete** to open the deletion dialog box, select a format by clicking a visible format name, by navigating through the list with arrow keys, or by typing the initial letter of a format's name. Repeatedly typing the same initial moves through the formats that begin with that letter. Click Delete to "nominate" the selected format for deletion. You can't select multiple formats in the list by Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click. Click Done to perform the actual deletion, or Cancel if you change your mind.
An alternate way to open the format deletion dialog box is by clicking the Delete option that appears by clicking the Commands button in the Paragraph, Character, and Table designers.
To assure that you don't lose formats you may want to use at another time, save a copy of the file with a descriptive name, such as "AllFormatsInTheKnownUniverse.fm." You can delete all the content to unclutter the file, without losing the formats. You can import formats from one file to another, or from one file to multiple files in a book. Search Google for "framemaker import formats" without quotes for information at Adobe forums, in FrameMaker Help, and from other sources.
**Note that pressing Delete to open the deletion dialog box does not delete the format that's selected in the catalog.
One way to eliminate all the unused formats from a catalog is to use File > Utilities > Create and Apply Formats. BEWARE: it's dangerous; read up on it in Help, and save a copy of your file before using. You'll find unfamiliar format names in the catalog this creates, such as Mapping Table Title and some others; they're from items on Master and Reference Pages.
Better and safer than Create and Apply Formats are the excellent inexpensive tools for maintaining paragraph and character format catalogs from siliconprairiesoftware.com.
The table format catalog is only visible in the Table Designer (Table > Table Designer.)

  • Changes to paragraph formats aren't affecting anything at all

    Hello:
The recent post by Dennis ("phiguru"?) touched on my problem, but mine is simpler.
I foolishly changed an entire topic's text to red to remind myself that wholesale content revisions are needed, and that the old "boilerplate" is not for publication. (I was in a hurry and have since remembered Conditional tags, of course. Duh.)
Now, I am trying to restore the affected paragraph formats back to their original font colors. (Fortunately, my dopey first color change seems not to have affected the same paragraph formats in other topics.)
These images looked terrible when I first posted this a moment ago, thank goodness clicking on them opens a larger, clearer version!
Using the pencil-icon Edit tool in the Styles and Formatting pod, I'm simply trying to change the color of the font. Seems pretty straightforward, but just in case:
The line "Tiled Texture Mapping..." is one of the Heading 3 culprits that refuses to change. I change the color to Black, turn on Underlining, hit OK and, get Nothing.
I don't expect anything really 20th-century to happen, like the change being applied universally, but when typing on a new blank line that has been designated Heading 3, the new text is still red.
Going to an existing reddened Heading 3 line, and re-selecting the desired style from the Apply Style dropdown at top left only gets me that same maddening business cited by Dennis:
    Do you want to:
      1. Update the shyle to reflect recent changes?
      2. Reapply the formatting of the style to the selection?
Any advice, anyone? I know I'm probably missing something obvious, but it continues to escape me, and time, life and my work queue are marching ever-forward.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Rick:
I seem to have gotten it finally by changing the color  in the Styles dialog, Format button (at lower left) > Font dropdown selection, instead of relying on the formatting controls right under the Paragraph Preview in the Styles dialog. I don’t know why RH takes the former more seriously than the latter.
Then, clicking “Reapply the formatting of the style to the selection?” in the Update/Reapply Style dialog instead of “Update the style to reflect recent changes?” seemed to really nail it down.
Now mind you, I’m not a complete bonehead. I did originally think that “recent changes” referred specifically to changes made wholesale, on the fly and with insufficient forethought, as with my ill-considered changing of all the text to red as a mnemonic device.
But then when I was trying to change things back “the right way”, I started to think that “recent changes” referred to recent ‘proper’ changes in the Styles and Formatting facility, especially since “Reapply the formatting of the style to the selection?” initially seemed so useless.
I did glance at ‘Remove Attribute’ but when it didn’t seem to hold the promise of immediate complete self-actualization and instantaneous transport to a land of dancing unicorns, infinite free energy and no starvation, I lost interest and moved on in my search for fixes.
I think I’ll try your suggestion first next time.
    Thanks.

  • Make Paragraph Formats go away

I'm running FM12 on Windows 7, and when I do Ctrl-9 to search for a Paratag to use, I get a seach box and a list of formats. In the previous version (FM9) I could see the possible formats with the letters I'm typing in the status bar at the bottom, select it, and all was well. In FM12, if I press Ctrl-9 and immediately start typing the first letters of the format I want, the search box takes a while to appear and when it does, it is stuck. I can't type anything in it and I can't make it go away. It's stuck not in FM but in Windows. I have to move FM out from under it to see what I'm doing. AND I can't put the focus back in the document. I have to restart FM12. What's a fellow to do? The search box is presently over this window as I write.
    ~ Steve Talley

    Hi Steve,
The very first time you initiate one of the smart catalog dialogues, like the Paragraph or Character formats, FM may take a little bit of extra time to enumerate all of the catalog entries. Thereafter, the next time you summon it, it should pop-up almost instantaneously. So, immediately diving in before it's finished  enumerating *may* be triggering a quirk, but up until now, I haven't seen this.
I've tried to trigger this behaviour by typing ahead before it's finished enumerating, but it doesn't ball up on either a WinXP or a Win7 64-bit system.
Have you tried a screen refresh (ctrl+L) or <esc> in FM?
Also, are you saying that the non-functioning Catalog Search window closes when you close FM or is it still hanging around after you close FM?
