Clearing server emails

I have set up my new imac today and the first bit of head scratching was settings for Gmail. Got the emails fine but sending really foxed me. Anyway, two cups of tea later and a cuban cigar did the trick, all works exactly as it should do.
Question is: I have set the server gmail to clear emails when transferred to an external source email programme but for the life of me they stay well and truly put. Any thoughts from a fellow gmail user on what I am doing wrong?
BTW completely off topic but when I clicked on updates today I got 1.8 gigs worth. That would have taken a week on my old MSW PC, as it happens it was all done dusted within 30 minutes, shut down and restarted. Praise where praise is due. So far I am loving this imac ... tomorrow is another day though:-) Still so much to do.

    Understood, the difference with iTunes being that Apple doesn't (currently) require you to enter any account info on the device until you try to purchase something from their store. Initial setup is just a connection to the iTunes software and you're good to go.
    While I understand that RIM wishes the account to be defined, they also need to be aware that doing so during the initial setup without proving an option to do it later, while failing to provide any means to change it afterwards (short of a device wipe) doesn't always suit the the situation. Hopefully they'll be reviewing the forums to gather feedback that they can incorporate into future software updates.

  • How can OS X Server email be setup with hosted email?

    We are a small business with our email hosted by an ISP. We are happy with this arrangement and don't want to bring email in-house. However, we would like to be able to setup email (on OS X Server) so that we can access shared email accounts (eg. info@... and sales@....) from any Mac on our network.
    I know we can setup each Mac to access the hosted email account but this is not ideal because when one of us reads an email its marked as read on the hosted server but if the email has already been sent to the second client it will not show up as read there. Likewise, we can't see each other's replies or saved mail because these are saved in the mailbox on each Mac client. Whereas, if the Mac clients were both reading the shared email account from the same mailbox on the OS X Server, this problem would be eliminated.
    I was thinking that the OS X Server email would enable us to do this but can't work out how.

    Camelot - thanks for your reply. I'm not sure though if I posed my question clearly/correctly though.
    I also work with a company who use Outlook on Windows and they have recently setup something similar to what I'm looking for:
    a) they have Public Folders in Outlook - can Mail do this?
    b) they have setup Outlook in I guess a relayed sort of way, whereby the hosted mail is downloaded by the Outlook server and each client then reads from their mailboxes on the server and replies via the server back to the hosted email. This has a couple of advantages (eg. only have to setup the hosted email details in one place, rather than on every client) but in particular it means that when on their network you can logon from any computer and open your local mailbox to read email, see your saved emails & replies (which aren't all saved on the hosted email), etc.
    If OS X Server mail could do either a) or b) I think it would give us the functionality we want. With b) we could access a mailbox on the server from any client rather than having to duplicate mailboxes on each client (and hence them getting inconsistent).

  • Can someone please help me figure out how to "clear" recent email addresses used in Mail?

    Can someone please help me figure out how to “clear” recent email addresses used in Mail?  For example, as I begin typing a name/email address in the “To:” field, Mail begins suggesting addresses that I’ve previously used.  I don’t want any suggestions unless they are in my contacts.
    Another example:  When using MS Outlook, it will also remember and suggest email accounts previously used, but I can arrow down and delete an account from the list so it won’t automatically popup or suggest in the future.
    I appreciate any guidance in this matter.

    The iOS email app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which cannot be turned off. The email address autofill feature when addressing an email pulls from contacts and from the list of previous recipients which can't be prevented. There is no option to clear the list of previous recipients - not at the present time anyway.
    If you don't want any suggestions, select from contacts instead when addressing an email.

    iCal Server email invitations - how to test and get this feature working
    Thanks Apple for introducing this nice little feature into iCal but then completely neglecting to write any sort of useful manual that can explain what to do when it doesn't work after you set it up for the first time.
    At long, long last we have finally got there after about 6 months of fiddling on and off, so I thought I had better post up the process since many have similar issues and it is hard to ascertain what is going on.
    Using an external email server was just a waste of time and it still wouldn't handle the replies properly even though it was supposed to handle '+addressing'. In the end I set up a special gmail account for the iCal server and finally got it working. I list here the process of configuring and testing the system to check that each little stage is working.
    Set up a Gmail account in Apple Mail to access and test in the usual way for any email account (e.g. [email protected].);
    Set the iCal server email to access the same email using the following settings:
    IMAP
    SMTP
    [email protected]
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 993 [x] Use SSL
    Port: 587 [x] Use SSL
    User & Pwd
    Login
    User & Pwd
    To test the settings:
    send out a test email from Apple Mail to a non-server email address that you can access to check it has been received;
    send out a test email from your non-server email account to [email protected] and check that it is received;
    this tells you that the GMail account is setup correctly and working
    Testing iCal:
    I noted that iCal was deleting any emails that arrive in the inBox in Apple Mail as soon as they arrived (this is to be expected);
    test that the invites are being sent from iCal by setting an event in iCal and inviting your non-server address (you may not see any sign of this in Apple Mail but you should catch it in the iCal server log and possibly in the Gmail sent mail box);
    check that the invite is received at your non-server account and Accept it in iCal on another machine - the reply is automatically sent back;
    the replies appear in Apple Mail but are quickly deleted by iCal. But their record for you to see is left in Gmail under 'All Mail';
    Accepted invites appear as a notification button on the top left hand bar on iCal where you click to acknowledge them and then the attendee is shown as a green circled tick instead of a grey circled ?.
    this shows that iCal invitations are working correctly. Whenever an event is updated, all invitees should be updated by email automatically.
    I hope this helps anyone - I could certainly have done with something similar when I started with looking at this.

    The Error and Access logfile in the Server app under iCal server are very useful in determining any errors. I got lots of imip errors when I didn't quite have the settings right. The port is critical and it won't tell you this is the problem if it fails.

  • Delay downloading Exchange server email

    I use an iMac with an ethernet link to cable internet service. Using Mail, I have a strange delay of 1-2 minutes before email downloads from an Exchange server. Interestingly, my MacBook, also using Mail, downloads the same Exchange server email almost instantly using an Airport Extreme with the same cable modem providing the cable signal.
    In fact, I just switched from a 2007 iMac to a 2010 iMac, used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from the 2007 to the 2010 iMac, and I have the same delay of about 1-2 minutes before email downloads from the Exchange server.
    The email always downloads--it's the delay on the iMac that's puzzling.

    It's hard to say based on what you posted.  I would guess that the VPN connection doesn't provide the complete name resolution you get when connected to the network internally.

  • Previous server email

    Did switching my internet to FIOS somehow disable my previous ip server email?  I can access my email from my previous server but I am not able to receive emails since the switch to FIOS today?  Coincidence?  Is it just a problem with my previous server email account or a block by verizon fios?

    It has been mentioned lately that do to spam filtering issues, Verizon is blocking outbound mail to other providers mail servers, unless it comes from the verizon mail server. Webmail being an exception. TCP Port 25 for SMTP to be exact. Getting POP3 mail from other servers should not be a problem on TCP port 110. But outgoing mail will need to go through outgoing.verizon.net.
    This is not only Verizon. I know where I work all mail must go through a secure mail server. Many networks have blocked outbound port 25 and other ports from making connections. This not only prevents spam but also makes the network more secure from hacking and viruses. All though I do not agree with the concept of blocking and feel you should be responsible for your own security. Many ISPs are tightening the belt.

  • POP3 server emails stopped after new update of 503

    Last week messge appeared on screen that new update version (14.0.4) available for your mobile Asha 503. I select yes to upgrade my phone from older version to new. after upgrade procedur my office POP3 server email stopped & not working from that time. i contact to my office network administrator to check any possibility to enable my email but he asked me there is no any chance to receive my email because he tried lot of time to re configure but it vain. please help

    The easiest way to track this is: Capture the network traffic! This can be done via a:
    A) Wi-Fi access point which allows capturing. Alternatively, you go for a
    B) Ethernet Switch behind the Wi-Fi access-point which allows port mirroring. A third alternative is to
    C) install Connectify on a computer and use that as capturing Wi-Fi access-point
    for your Nokia Asha 503.
    In all cases, you use tools like Wireshark to analyze the data traffic. However, because you are in contact with your administrator already: Does he see any data packet from your Nokia Asha 503 at all? If not, the Internet configuration could have been damaged while updating. Nokia Xpress browser is using a slightly different configuration, therefore it might not be affected.

  • Can't eprint from exchange server email address

    I am unable to eprint from my exchange server email address and I can print from other accounts such as @att.net aacounts.  This problem has started in the last week.  I have reinstalled the printer and varified the allowed address.

    Hi Rick60422,
    Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I gather that in the last week or so you have been unable to print emails from your exchanger server email address.
    I have included a document here that has trouble shooting steps to take when an ePrint job fails.

  • Bursting - empty tag not being cleared in email channel loop

    If you check the following, I pass the cust num and email address to the email delivery channel for the subject line.
    <xapi:message id="222" to="[email protected]" attachment="true" subject="Unigas Statement to be emailed to ${CUST_NUM} to ${EMAIL}">
    Problem is, that if the cust num or email address tag is empty, the previous tag value is used! its like its not being "cleared" between bursting loops.

    Since your email is failing I am going to assume the rest of your script is working.  So I am looking specifically at these lines:
      $process = '../includes/process_mail.inc.php';
        if (file_exists($process) && is_readable($process)) {
            include($process);
    The things that need to be confirmed here are that the path is right and it has proper permissions.  Have you tried eliminating that "and" statement in your "if" and see if those work independently.  I have a feeling that if the path is right that the file does not have the proper permissions on your server for global read access which would make, "is_readable" fail and thus end your script.
    Can you test those and post back?

  • How to get Mail in iOS 7 to automatically clear unread email badge

    I thought that the whole new background app refresh in iOS 7 would help this issue.....
    I like that I can look at my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.0.2 and see that I have unread emails from the red badge on Mail
    However, if I do not use the iPhone to read those emails and I instead use my iMac, I thought that the badges on the Mail icon on the iPhone would automatically clear with the combo of using the push server an background app refresh.
    However, even if I read emails on my iMac, the Mail badge on the iPhone will not clear unless I launch Mail on he iPhone.
    FB badges go away if I check FB on the computer.
    Why not Mail?
    And is there any way to fix this?

    To anyone else following this, David and I have exchanged emails. I am the only one seeing this behavior.
    There just aren't that many things to tweak in Mail.
    1. General settings... nothing to do with this.
    2. Accounts... nothing relevent.
    3. Junk Mail... nada
    4. Fonts & Colors ... no
    5. Viewing... Show header detail -- Default, Display unread is selected. Others are not. (Message threading is selected)
    6. Composing... Plain Text, Check spelling as I type, Auto complete addresses (no LDAP configured), When sending to a group show all member addresses is selected, Quote the text and increase quote level are selected. and include selected text if any otherwise include all.
    not much there.

    I have an old Bold 9870 and now use a Z10. I need to clear all the emails and contacts from the Bold so I can load a new Sim and let someone else use the phone. I cannot see how to clear all the emails from the server or how to prevent the new user reading all my emails and coantacts.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Many thanks Steve

    You'll need to do a security wipe on the phone.
    On your homescreen, follow Options>Security>Security Wipe OR Options>Device>Security>Security Wipe, depending on which OS your phone is running. Once on the Security Wipe page, follow the instructions to clear the phone of all personal data.
    Let us know if that helps you.
