Clearing the cache in production...

What effect if any does clearing out the cache have on session variables?
Also, is anyone aware of any potential adverse side effects on user experience when clearing out the cache durring normal business hours?
Thank you,
Mike

The template cache caches compiled CFM (and CFC) templates in RAM.  What's that got to do with static / dynamic content?
I have used the term the template cache as a synonym of page cache.
Right.  So differently from how CF uses the term.  That's a bit confusing isn't it?
Template cache doesn't do the caching, as you suggest; it is the cache.
I think you're splitting hairs "a bit" there.  What would you call the mechanism that puts the cached CF templates into the template cache then?
If a template's content changes constantly, that is, if it has dynamic content, that will defeat the purpose of Coldfusion caching it. It doesn't matter how or where Coldfusion caches CFM and CFC templates. Caching is for templates that change infrequently or, ideally, that are unchanging or static. The same goes for Coldfusion's caching of connections, queries, etc..
Well yes, I suppose if one is continually writing CFML to templates dynamically before calling them with <cfinclude> or something, it does defeat the purpose of the template cache slightly.  This describes a shrinkingly insignificant proportion of template requests though, in any sanely-built system.  However the template cache caters for that eventuality as much as it can by weighting the usage of the templates in the cache.  If it runs out of space in the cache, it cycles out the least-used templates first.

  • How to clear the cache of an applet?

    I m working on an applet displaying images for client side. So server will send me an image(picture),but for the first time i display the image,it will be successfully. when i want to view another new image ,it display the previous image, so i suspect the problem is the cache of the applet.so how do i clear the cache of an applet?

    This is quiet clear:
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/appletcaching.html
    On Windows platform the Java Control Panel has also a "clear cache" option.
    Anyway you may find the cache on your harddrive.
    Hope that helps.

  • Clearing the Cache

    Hi
    I have been getting to grips with the sun update software over the last 2 days.
    In about a years time I see that the cache of downloaded patches will have a great deal of obsolete downloads.
    While my servers arent in production I wanted to check how I can clear the cache of updates downloaded to my update proxy (which is also a client, the only 1 I have at present).
    It would be nice to be able to delete patches, and other obsolete data (eg READMEs) that are in various directories below: /var/sadm/spool, that are older thatn a certain number of days, but I will settle for a complete clean if thats the only way.
    I tried a few things to clean the cache completely (this one was on the forum, but didnt work for me):
    cd /var/sadm/
    I moved the spool dir and created another with the same permissions and ownership
    patchsvr stop
    patchsvvr start
    But when I do an analyze in the updatemanger gui, I get (right at the end of the analysis, according to the progress bar anyway) a dialog with:
    Read System Analysis Data Error
    There is an error in reading system analysis data. Click on "Check
    for Updates" to restart a system analysis. If the problem persists,
    report the issue to your sysadmin or Sun.
    Selecting "Check for Updates" gives the same error.
    If I move the spool dir back again all is fine.
    I tried the same thing with the /var/sadm/spool/cache dir and got the same.
    Files are created in that dir.
    ./cache/collection/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fcollection%2Fdefault
    ./cache/category/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fcategory%2Fdefault
    ./cache/Database/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2FDatabase%2Fcurrent.zip
    ./cache/entitlement/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fentitlement_client
    ./cache/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fdetectors.jar
    Any ideas.
    Thanks
    Trevor

    I had a look further at this and, if you remove the *.jar files there is no issue. They are just downloaded again if required.
    This is even easier to do if you specify another location for the patches to be downloaded too.
    The problem is way less than I initially thought and its just the caching of READMEs viewed through updatemanger GUI and analysis ot available updates.
    Still they eventually could do with a cleanout.
    Cheers
    Trevor

  • When I click "Clear now" to clear the cache, nothing happens, no acknowlegement the the cache is cleared, and I need to know whether the function is working.

    login problem at an arts forum... login works at other sites.
    I can't log in. They gave me a new password and were able to log in with it, doesn't work for me. They suggested clearing cache.
    I removed a cookie from that site, and tried to clear the cache, but suspect I was unsuccessful. When I go to the login, after attempting to clear the cache and removing cookie, the login form is immediately filled in with a password, which could be the old one or the new one, they are unfortunately the same number of letters.
    How do I get the cache clear if the edit preferences thing is not working?

    As a quick test for cookie or cache problems you can try to switch Private Browsing mode on to see if that allows to log in.
    You can either use Tools > Start Private Browsing or set a check mark in:
    * Tools > Options > Privacy: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
    To see all the History and Cookie settings, select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"<br />
    Do not forget to exit Private Browsing mode after you have finished the login test.

    It's possible that the pages you are attempting to open simply won't work with that old web browser.
    If you're using Mac OS X Tiger, update to the latest version, which is 10.4.11. (You might be using that already. Your profile says you're running 10.4.1, but I bet that's just a typo.)
    Then get the latest version of Safari that will run on Tiger. (And... you have that already: 4.1.3.)
    You might try a more modern browser designed specifically for your current OS. That would be TenFourFox.

  • How to clear the cache in the portal browser

    Hello Experts,
    Iam unable to clear the cache in the portal. I tried  clearing the Navigation cache , PRT cache,PCD cache,Database cache,UME cache.
    The senario is in the browser if iam logging with some user X , he should see only 1,2,3 countries, and if i logg off and again logg in the same browser with different user he is seeing same 1,2,3 countries unlike he should see 4,5 countries.
    But if iam opening in different browser iam getting the correct one with cache cleared.
    I want to acheive this in the same browser.
    Qucik help in solving out this cache problem is appreciable.
    Regrds,
    Manasa.

    There is one more important cache: the HTTP Provider Service cache (in VA).
    To find out why the browser is showing the same languages, analyze what the server is sending to the browser with HTTPWatch or Firebug and look at the cache flag. Also check what is the iView cache parameter? Is it user, session, shared or none?
    How do you do the logoff? The best thing is to make sure that the HTTP Session is killed. If not, the portal may send data that is cached for the HTTP Session to the browser. When you open a new browser, you will also open a new HTTP Session. That could be the cause why it is working with a new browser instance.

  • How do I clear the cache in my MacBook Pro 10.9 Maverick

    How do I clear the cache in my MacBook Pro 10.9 Maverick operating system? Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions. I'm a big dummy when it comes to this sort of thing.

    Hey DrSteveMc,
    Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines where the cache folder is stored. Note that the Library folder is hidden by default in OS X Mavericks. To access this folder, hold down option when clicking the Go menu in Finder:
    OS X Mavericks: What is the Library folder?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14330
    Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1199
    If the issue does not appear to be related to preferences, a login item, or a kext file, and still persists in Safe Mode, there may be an issue with a cache file in your home folder:
    1. From the Finder's Go menu, choose Home.
    2. Open the Library folder.
    3. Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    4. Attempt to reproduce the issue.
    5. If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
    6. If issue persists, from the Finder's Go menu, choose Go To Folder.
    7. Go to this folder: /Library
    8. Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    9. Attempt to reproduce the issue.
    10. If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
    11. If issue persists, go to step 4.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Query for clearing the caches automatically in the portal?

    Hi There,
    We are using EP Portal 6,currently we are having Oracle Archive logs issue which slows down the system.Now we are clearing the caches in the System Landscape-> Universal Worklist & Workflow->Universal Worklist Administration->Universal Worklist u2013Cache Admin by Manually.
    *Is there any steps to do it automatically which helps a lot?
    Thanks,
    Krishna.

    Hi,
    when you refresh the UWL it will clears the cache explicitly, Default time for UWl refresh is 5 min, You can automatically refresh the cache by changing the properties of UWL ivew (in Portal content) -
    sap_uwl_viewname  : DefaultView
    useNavigationId   : com.sap.pct.erp.mss.Main
    Check this wiki page for more info on cache interval change and more:
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BPX/CompletedtasksdisappearonlyafterarefreshofUWL+cache
    all these work in EP 7 but not sure with EP 6.

  • How to clear the caching realm?

    Hello,
    WebLogic Server 5.1 SP 6 on W2k Server
    Is it possible to emtpy the caching realm inside of an EJB?
    The class weblogic.security.acl.CachingRealm
    provides the clearCaches() method, but I don't know how
    to get the actual cache object within an EJB in the WebLogic
    server.
    Thanx in advance,

    yeah word
    This works for sure in a servlet or jsp
    <%

    BasicRealm basicRealm = Security.getRealm();
    try {
    ((CachingRealm) basicRealm).clearCaches();

    Is there anyway to clear a particular user from the cache. When the user's
    password
    is changed in the database, i would like to remove this user from the
    Caching
    realm. If i call authUserPassword() with incorrect password, will it
    remove the
    User object from Cache?
    Also, in a cluster, how do i remove the User from all WLS instances.
    thanks for your help.

    Anyway, I think you can do it by (I haven't tried this):
    import weblogic.security.acl.Realm;
    import weblogic.security.acl.Security;
    import weblogic.security.acl.CachingRealm;
    Realm genericRealm = Security.getRealm();
    CachingRealm cachingRealm = (CachingRealm)genericRealm;
    cachingRealm.clearCaches();

  • Clearing the cache on version 6.5.2

    I was told I should clear my caches now and then...trouble is I can't find out how to do this. Yasu works for the system and browser ones, but how do I clear Quicktime's? I've clicked on everything there was available to click on in Quicktime Preferences and Player Preferences.

    It could be: sorry, but I don't remember and I don't have a system with 6.5 to check.
    But it really shouldn't matter; clearing your web browser's cache should accomplish the same thing.
    Are you have some problem that you've been told that clearing the cache might help? If so, let us know and we may be able to either verify that solution or provide an alternative. If this is just a precaution, then Yasu should have done the necessary clearing and you don't need to worry further.
    Regards.

  • Clear the cache

    hi
    i develop an extension for indesign with CS extension builder 2 et Flashbuilder 4.6, is it possible to clear the cache during the execution of the extension ? because indesign crash after 2 minutes of execution.
    thanks
    Simon

    Try "profile as..."
    You're probably accessing too many collections.
    If you post some of your code, we might be able to give pointers on how to improve it.
    I'd suggest taking that discussion to the InDesign Scripting Forum.

    Is there any method that will clear the cache? I'd like to use UIImage imageNamed, but I'm concerned with the cache getting filled...

    Thank you for the info!!!!  I did go in and delete cookies and history, the only 2 options available.  Whether it helps or not, still a good thing to do once in a while, I would imagine.  Thanks so much!!!
