Clearlooks-gtk2 vs with gtk-engines

The 2 packages in the title conflicts one with the other, and this is fine, because they both provide the engine for clearlooks.
But what about the icons and the metacity themes that come with the first of the two?
clearlooks-gtk2 provide a greater support for that specific theme, coming with icons and three themes for different window colouring.
By now I've just installed themes and icons from the clearlooks package in my home, is there any better and clearer solution?

Snowman wrote:If you like clearlooks better, why don't you install clearlooks-gtk2 instead of gtk-engines?
Because gtk-engines is required by 3 other theme packages actually.
I hope JGC will be fast in updating the pkgs in his todo list.

  • After gtk2 upgrade, i lost the gtk engine appearance

    hi all,
Yesterday i do the following upgrades:

Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing that.  Just rebuild rezlooks against gtk2-2.10.x to keep things consistant.
In this case it's a completely valid solution, as the API between 2.4 and 2.10 hasn't changed for theme engines. The only thing that has changed is filechooser plugins, which is why they bumped.
The only problem I would have with this solution is that pacman doesn't know about the new files anymore, but if you're hacking around anyways, the filelist in /var/lib/pacman could be updated to match the new location aswell

  • Problem with lib32-gtk-engines

I'm trying to install lib32-gtk-engines from the AUR; however I keep encountering this message:
configure: error: GTK+-2.12 is required to compile gtk-engines
I've tried using both aura and yaourt, and I've also tried doing a full system update. Nothing yet has worked. Any ideas what may be causing this?

change the pkgver and pkgrel variables in the PKGBUILD to be the current arch32 values (2.16.0 and 1) and rebuild the package locally.
I should have thought of that. Thanks

  • GTK engine doubts

Hi, i want to ask what is the difference between the many gtk engines out there. I have one problem with my xfce, i installed the xfce4-gtk2-engine and xfce4-gtk3-engine, and i assume those are two separate engines handling gtk2 and gtk3 respectively. But, some of the apps that i installed have old classy drop-downs and buttons, i guess because something is not going good with the engines i installed. For e.g. Evince (document viewer) have an old classic look, and something else like the audio mixer (alsa) for e.g. is normal (i use this theme). I want to ask weather i should change the default xfce gtk engines and install something else that is handling better both gtk2 and gtk3.
    Thanks!

Yeah, i just got it now.. so my theme is gtk2 only that's why i get ugly looking docs. reader (since it's gtk3 based app). Thanks for your replies, you've been very informative. Anyway, i was looking at this theme and i see that it required murine and some other pixbuf stuff.. Do i need to install these engines, since i already have the xfce's implementations installed. I tried the theme it works for gtk3 apps but now i get ugly look on everything else based on gtk2.. =/. Is there any gt2/3 based engine that handles both specifications, because i installed two separate packages in xfce (gtk2 and gtk3 engines)?
    Thanks, cheers!

  • Gtk-engines? Do I Need It?

I have been playing with adding gtk themes to my system by creating a ~/.gtkrc and ~/.gtkrc-2.0. I downloaded a large set of themes, and when I select one in my .gtkrc-2.0 file, it seems to work. Nonetheless, before I started this effort, I had checked the Arch repository and see that there is a package called gtk-engines.
Since my theme selections appear to be working without this package, I am left wondering what it does and whether I need it for something that I am not aware of. I have done a "pacman --query gtk-engines" and I can see that it is not on my system.
So, my question is - what does this package do? Can I use new/different themes with it? What functionality does it enable? Thanks.

Thanks, I'll have a look at art.gnome.org and gnome-look.org. I didn't know about either of these, and my googling for theme sites did not turn them up. Strange.
When you say it is possible to have, for example, Clearlooks without the earth tones, are you saying that such a theme has been created and I can find it at one of the above two, or are you merely commenting that I can go in and edit the theme myself manually (I have done this before in the past!) to change some of the color elements?

  • Problem with gtk themes display

I am running Gnome on my new Arch box and I encounter some strange problems. In Debian, I was able to compile and use some gtk engines like gflat, rezlooks or murrina. Now I tried to compile them on Arch and they do compile okay, but they do not work as expected. Either I get a simple gtk1 layout or I get a broken gtk2 theme (murrina e.g.) where gradients don't work and sliders that are e.g. pink on the left and gray on the right side.
Did anyone else experience this and what could cause this problem?

rezza wrote:the problem is gtk-2.10 looking in a different place for theming engines. I'll release a new rezlooks soon, but in the meantime you can fix it by symlinking the engines in /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/engines/ to /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/
Simply rebuilding the rezlooks engine against gtk2-2.10.1 correctly found the right directory for me at least.

  • Problems with gtk libraries?

    Hi,
I installed arch and lxde on a Aspire one, but I have some problem with different software. The main example is the image viewer: gpicview crashes when I open an image (for a segmentation fault). So I installed Mirage to see if it's a problem due to only gpicview. I can start Mirage, but when I open an image from the open menu, it says that it can not load the picture and there is a small red "x" in the window right part for the image. So I tried with xzgv: it starts but the right part of the window remains always empty, while I can navigate in folders through the left part of the windows. Feh instead works. I have a similar problem with xsmbrowser: it starts but I can't interact with the buttons and text fields present in the windows.
Gpicview, mirage and xzgv use GTK libraries: may the problem be with these lib? They are installed but maybe something is missing...
May I need gtk-engine? I searched about but I found that it's used for the theme. Or it's necessary for any software based on gtk? But if it's necessary with gpicview (default viewer for lxde) why wouldn't it be already present?
Thanks for your help and attention.

I started the applications through the terminal:
    - mirage: the only message is a deprecation warming for the use of md5 instead of hashlib, but I think nothing important. No message added opening the image. I made a screenshot using mirage (giving a .png image) and it can open this. But when I try to open the other images (.pnm made with luvcview), it opens always this png screenshot (that is: if there are other images, opens those, else nothing). Remark: the preview in the open menu shows the effective pnm image.
    - gpicview: it opens the png file but get the segmentation fault on the pnm
    - xzgv: opens other images but pnm file doesn't exists for him
So I think it's likely a image format problem (but openoffice draw can open pnm).
    - xsmbrowser tells that he wants the tcl version 8.5 exactly and not the 8.5.5 that I have. There is a 8.5.0 in the AUR, maybe I'll try removing 8.5.5 and installing 8.5.0.......
So there shouldn't be problems with gtk...
Moreover in dmesg now I have:
    [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20060119 on minor 0
evdev.c(EVIOCGBIT): Suspicious buffer size 511, limiting output to 64 bytes. See http://userweb.kernel.org/~dtor/eviocgbit-bug.html
Maybe synaptics from google...I will verify...

  • How to use non system-wide installed gtk engine?

    Hello!
I want to use the new oxygen-gtk engine, but at work I have no root rights. Thats why I installed the engine into an directory on my home directory. Now I have to tell GTK where to find this new engine. I tried the following solutions, but nothing works:
    gtkrc-2.0: module_path: GTK_WARNING: module path now ignored
    "GTK_PATH=/home/user/.gtk2.0/engines": does not work
    Everytime I get:
Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk"
Is there any way to tell GTK where to find my user installed engine?
    Regards,

  • Issues with J2EE engine memory settings.

    Hi SDN!
I've got Web AS server 7.0 (Java only) on laptop for development use. Laptop has 2 GB RAM and 1,83GHz Core 2 Duo CPU
I have several issues with Java Engine.
    1)J2ee instance Settings.
    For Instance:
    - "Message server & bootstrap" node
         - max heap size: 256
    - "Servers general" node
         - max heap: 1024
         -Xmx1024m
         -Xms1024m
         -XX:PermSize=256m
         -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    For Dispatcher:
    - "General" node:
         - max heap size: 170
         -Xms170m
         -XX:NewSize=57m
         -XX:MaxNewSize=57m
    - "Bootstrap" node:
         - max heap: 256
    For Server:
    - "General" node:
         - max heap size: 1024
         -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
         -XX:PermSize=256M
         -Xmx1024m
         -Xms1024m
         -XX:NewSize=171M
         -XX:MaxNewSize=171M
    - "Bootstrap" node:
         - max heap size: 256
When I turn debug mode on for server via config tool, I've got 503 error and message "SAP WebAS Engine is starting... Message: Dispatcher running but no
server connected!" but in SAP mmc server instance looked like started (green color).
Windows Taskmanager shows me that 2GB total memory and near 600 MB of memory free.
Also I'm confusing about these nodes ("general", "bootstrap") with similar parameters and don't know which parameters I should set up according to note
    723909.
    2) I need to modify Java applications, build, deploy to local server and debug it there. Also may be ABAP debug will be used. Please give me information
about optimised engine (and, if needed, NWDS) settings for these tasks.
    Help will be appreciated.
    Regards, Lev

In general terms, the bootstrap process is what is used as java is starting up and pulling objects into memory. The heap used for the bootstrap process (I believe) is returned to the system after startup.
The server process is where the Java application server applications are so it will require the most heap.
    Does that help?

  • [SOLVED] Xfce freezes (maybe gtk-engine-murrine)

I'm just installed Xfce in a fresh Arch installation. The problem is that when I choose, for exemple, the Greybird gtk theme the environment totally freezes. This doesn't happen if I choose a theme that don't need gtk-engine-murrine. Anybody can help me? Sorry for my bad english.

It's solved. I removed gtk-engine-murrine and cleaned the pacman cache. Then reinstalled the engine and now all works. I don't know what happened but now it's ok. Excuse me for the post.

  • CISCO 2821 WITH CONTENT ENGINE

ANYONE KNOW THE USERNAME / PASSWORD
FOR THE CONTENT-ENGINE WHEN YOU OPEN UP A SESSION TO IT? ON OUR 2651XM'S WITH
    CONTENT-ENGINES THE USERNAME IS admin
and the password is default. THIS DOES
NOT WORK WITH THE NEW CONTENT-ENGINES INSTALLED.

If you have no luck guessing passwords you can try the following.
    Recovering a Lost Administrator Password
If an administrator password is forgotten, lost, or misconfigured, perform the following steps to reset the password on the device.
Note There is no way to restore a lost administrator password. You must reset the password to a new one, as described in this procedure.
Step 1 Establish a console connection to the device and open a terminal session.
Step 2 Reboot the device. While the device is rebooting, watch for the following prompt and press Enter when you see it:
Cisco ACNS boot:hit RETURN to set boot flags:0009
Step 3 When prompted to enter bootflags, enter this value:
    0x8000
    For example:
Available boot flags (enter the sum of the desired flags):
    0x4000 - bypass nvram config
    0x8000 - disable login security
    [CE boot - enter bootflags]:0x8000
You have entered boot flags = 0x8000
    Boot with these flags? [yes]:yes
    [Display output omitted]
Setting the configuration flags to 0x8000 lets you into the system, bypassing all
security. Setting the configuration flags field to 0x4000 lets you bypass the NVRAM
    configuration.
Step 4 When the device completes the boot sequence, you are prompted to enter the username to access the CLI. Enter the default administrator username (admin):
    Cisco Content Engine Console
    Username: admin
Step 5 Once you see the CLI prompt, set the password for the user using the username password command in global configuration mode.
The following example shows the different options and parameters for the username command. You can specify that the password be either clear text or encrypted. The user in the example chose to have an encrypted password.
    ContentEngine# configure
    ContentEngine(config)# username ?
    WORD User name
    ContentEngine(config)# username biff ?
password Specify the password for the user
    privilege Set user privilege level
samba-password Set user's Windows sharing password
    ContentEngine(config)# username biff password ?
    0 Specifies clear-text password (default)
1 Specifies type 1 encrypted password
    WORD User password (clear text)
    ContentEngine(config)# username biff password 0 ?
    WORD User password (encrypted)
    ContentEngine(config)# username biff password 0 mypassword ?
    uid User Id
ContentEngine(config)# username biff password 0 mypassword uid ?
    <2001-65535> User Id
    ContentEngine(config)# username biff password 0 mypassword uid 2001 ?
    ContentEngine(config)#
Step 6 Use the write memory command in EXEC mode to save the configuration change.
    ContentEngine(config)# exit
    ContentEngine# write memory
Step 7 Optionally, reboot your device by using the reload command.
    ContentEngine# reload
Rebooting is optional; however, you might want to reboot to ensure that the boot flags are reset, and to ensure that subsequent console administrator logins do not bypass the password check.
Note In ACNS software, the bootflags are reset to 0x0 on every reboot.

  • Serious mouse issues with GTK

my mouse and touchpad for my laptop have always worked without any sort of problem. i recently switched to openbox from gnome and it's been a wonderful experience so far. i tried cleaning out unnecessary gnome stuff and installed KDE to toy with it a little. needless to say shortly afterwards i ditched KDE and switched back to openbox, only to discover my mouse being screwed. i can move the cursor around and such but after a few seconds of running my ability to click and right-click is gone. i tried re-installing gnome completely hoping it might effect it and logged into a gnome session instead but the problem is persisting here as well. if i am using my mouse in a window, i cannot select anything on the panels with it whatsoever without repeatedly right clicking in the window close to the panel and then clicking the panel. and whenever i have the panel selected i can interact with it fine but cannot switch over to any windows. it's making me believe there's something going on with the mouse thinking it's "stuck" on the panel or window so clicking outside of it is rendered useless. i really don't know, i've tried searching online and such for any help on the topic but could not find anything and this is my final resort before going completely mad. any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: i've tried toying with settings in gnome in regards to the mouse and stuff, basically just doing anything i possibly can and while using a window from the control panel for the mouse and clicking within it i started opening a ton of control panel items (appearance, etc.) leading me to believe it's definitely an issue of the mouse being stuck in a window or something.

Your mouse is handled by xorg, so you need to make sure it's configured correctly. "mouse issues with GTK" simply doesn't make any sense.
My guess is that somewhere in the middle of changing WM/DE, you also did a system upgrade (a good thing) without reading Arch news (a bad thing), so you now have xorg 1.8 and you need to change your config accordingly.

  • Gtk2-aqd for gtk 2.12 = :(

The current patches for gnome-macmenu aren't working with gtk 2.12
I can't just use the old gtk 2.10 because everything else stops working.
Is anyone working on updating these patches to 2.12? I'm pretty sure someone must be because I found this: http://pastebin.ca/743853 Whoever you are, I'll help you! Just contact me.

Hold it right there (Just joking, but I always wanted to say that)
Why you don't try something simpler?, Something like...
    nano /etc/profile.d/got_damned_vmware.sh
    #! /bin/bash
    export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK="no"
    chmod +x /etc/profile.d/got_damned_vmware.sh
    reboot
I hope this works for you ^.^

  • Catalyst 4006 with Supervisor Engine II Multicast Support?

Hi, I have a Catalyst 4006 with Supervisor Engine II. I would like to know if it is possible to enable multicast routing via CGMP or IGMP. I know it is possible with the Supervisor Engine III. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cat4006 wiht sup II runs a CatOS and it's stricly Layer 2 therefore it does not support any kind of routing (L3). It does support multicast services. Switches can use CGMP, IGMP filtering, or GMRP to dynamically configure switch ports so that IP multicast traffic is forwarded only to ports that are associated with IP multicast hosts.
