ClearType support for font rendering on Windows?

JavaFX 2.1 or higher supports LCD text - that's fine. But there is a big rendering difference to native font rending on Windows - JavaFX 2 text doesn't look as sharpen as Windows native apps looks. It's because we need clear type support like in JavaSwing!
Is it planned to implement native font rendering with clear type?
Best regards,
Tobi

  • IE7 Support for Netweaver Rendering Technologies?

    Hello all,
We're just starting to test IE7 and right off have run into issues. In the posts I've seen people have been referring similar questions to the Product Availability Matrix which doesn't appear to address IE7 for NetWeaver Rendering Technologies. What's the latest on this. Does anyone have a hard answer from SAP, dates if not currently supported. Just looking to accelerate our understanding of this.
    Thanks,

  • Support for High-DPI screens Windows

This was posted two months ago by someone else, but I feel that it is too important to be ignored. I have a QHD resolution Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop, and I use Spotify almost constantly. However, I almost never use the desktop app; with DPI scaling, the scaling is fine, but the resolution is horrrible. With my display, I would hope for 1080p resolution (at least), but apparently it will never happen. My question is: is it possible for the Spotify developers to create a Windows program with high DPI support? Or maybe a Windows 8 app? Pretty please?

    Hi there,
I guess you are talking about this idea, I do agree that this idea is very important.
As soon as an idea reaches 100 kudos it will reach the spotify team and they will change the status. To learn more about the processing of ideas read this post "How your feedback reaches Spotify"
If would suggest to add your kudos and support in that idea, and keep sharing it on sites like Facebook, Twitter...

  • Is VMware supported for use with the Windows Azure Pack for Windows Server?

We are exploring the possibility of WAP as the front-end for a VMware cloud, and wondering if 1) this is supported 2) what limitations we may encounter and 3) what happens if we add Hyper-V to the mix alongside VMware.
Any thoughts or links to official guidance in this area?

This is an interesting question, and I must be honest and say I haven't tested it (yet).
The requirement is of course that your VMware envornment must be managed by vCenter-->SCVMM.
By using the native features (VM templates, traditional virtual networks etc), I think you should be just fine.
However, if you are looking for network virtualization scenarios, console access and so on, Hyper-V should be hypervisor to support all of this.

  • CDC support for HTML rendering

    Hi
I am new to CDC, so apologises if this is a sigh inducing question.
I was hoping to usee AGUI API to render HTML within a Swing object. JEditorPane easily shows the text/plain version of some HTML but does not appear to support the text/html contentType (which it does in full swing). Therefore I am reaching the conclusion that it is not possible to render HTML in CDC (regardless of profile).
    Is this conclusion correct?

I'm facing the same problem. The only way is to set a HTMLEditorKit in the EditorKit property. But the CDC doesn't have the HTMLEditorKit class.
If you know how to solve the problem, please tell me.
    Thanks.

  • Windows OpenType CFF Font Rendering

We have a situation where our identity font is displaying terribly in MS Word 2010 on Windows 7. The font looks great in InDesign and Illustrator. The font family is OpenType with PostScript outlines, aka CFF. This behavior is consistent for any OpenType font from Adobe, such as Myriad Pro or Adobe Garamond.
I am nearly certain that the Windows font rendering engine is optimized for TrueType outlines and renders PostScript outlines poorly. I also think that Adobe is using a different rendering engine for the Creative Suite applications, perhaps their own. I have not been able to find any specific documentation of these statements.
Does this ring true? Does anyone know of specific documentation of poor font rendering in Windows applications, especially MS Office?

Argg! I knew it would be something stupid. I spent a lot of time recently trying to get all the exceptions worked out in font embedding and it is all starting to run together.
Yes, I use flate by default, but I used AsciiHex so I could examine the data easily. Now I'm wondering when this crept in and how much time I wasted. Maybe I don't want to know.
This fixes the display issue in Acrobat/Reader, but Apple Preview still won't display the font (it substitutions but gives no error). Does anyone know if Apple Preview even supports FontFile3/OpenType?
Confusingly, Acrobat's Preflight -> PDF Analysis -> "Report PDF syntax issues" still reports the "An unexpected value is associated with the key" error.
In this case, would extracting the CFF table as is from the OTF be a valid CFF font that could be used, thereby using FontFile3/Type1C and make it compatible with Apple Preview? Just thinking out loud.
I've updated the file http://www.pagestream.org/fonttest4.pdf to reflect the proper encoding for anyone who might have an inkling to take a look.
Thank you Leonard for your help!

  • Why mac pro 2013 not supporting illustrator GPU rendering

Here, all nvidia cards supporting this:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html
now I'm thinking, that buying the new mac pro 2013 maybe wasn't the best idea... Apple put in AMD GPu's, that is fine by me, but come on, give us some more support for them! Normal windows PC (for 800€) with nvidia GPU is faster at rendering in Illustrator, than my workstation mac (3500+€)! Really? O.o
And story doesn't end here. I was reading one article about GPU usage in this new mac pro and then I tested it myself. Only one GPU is used and the other is barely touched! And this goes for Maya, photoshop, illustrator and other adobe programs. I was shocked, that I discovered I have one GPU to warm up my room and only one actually doing all the work.
Ok I understand, that also software developers needs to support stuff and write their software to actually use GPU's, but adobe creative suite is one of examples, where software is actually capable of using GPU via openCL and in some cases even CUDA from nvidia.
And there is one more thing: new mac pro, has 2 identical AMD GPU's inside, which can work in crossfire configuration under windows in bootcamp, but not in OS X. Sometimes I even play some games on my mac and sometimes I'm testing them (I'm artist, but I also like to develop and test some games in my free time) and it's kinda a shame, that I can run games with better performance under windows in bootcamp.
When I bought this computer I thought this is going to rock and sweep up with all my previous machines. Well in practice it is much of unused potential and great room warmer. It's kinda sad, that on my girlfriend's PC I can play games with better frames and details on GF 660GTX than on my mac pro... I know I know, mac's aren't for gaming, but hey, sometimes it is good to get my mind on rest and blow up some enemies!
I'm not saying mac pro isn't great product, which is (very great). But support to use all computer capabilities is very limited and Apple should kick developers in their back side and push them to start developing things to use GPU's more.
I'm also not expecting Apple to jump on their feet and fix problems overnight. No, just start thinking of adding more support and things that would make our computers much more used and not only good decoration on desk. First would be a good steep adding crossfire support to OS X. That might even help at rendering some 3D scenes?
Next step would probably be better cooperation with software developers, like Adobe , Autodesk,... If adobe made good support for GPU rendering in Illustrator, aim that we get that support soon as well. I'm sometimes having a lot of paths and objects and rendering goes pretty slow then.
I'm also thinking about that AMD choice Apple made wasn't so good when you see that Nvidia puts much more effort into supporting more and more stuff, while AMD is sitting idle not even updating their drivers anymore.
Oh and one more thing: Can we please, please, please, please, preeeeeetty please get 10-bit output support on OS X? It's kinda sad, having good mac workstation with 10-bit capable monitor (dell UP2414Q) and no support for it, while other PC workstations all support it... Photoshop is working much better on OS X and here I have much better integration and everything and I really love working in Photoshop running on OS X, but some basic things are missing and I'm really asking myself sometimes: was that good decision? Photoshop was first written for macs and in 2014 there is much better support for adobe software on windows than on OS X. Where went wrong?
Don't take me wrong and think I'm just ranting here without any good reason, but think: buying very expensive computer that is supposed to make creative work easy and painless is actually just on paper. In reality computer potential is pretty much unused and that makes me thinking if I would be much better buying iMac instead of mac pro...
TL;DR: I wish for some more support from Apple for their new expensive mac pro's 2013. They are great piece of equipment, but equivalent PC's running windows are surpassing them in this department, specially when GPU's are involved. Now I would like to point this out to Apple, so I don't know where to write so they will read so I first wrote that here. I hope someone from Apple reads this and give us some feedback on those missing things or maybe I get direction where to write to Apple so I get maybe some response from them(?):
-not enough GPU support for creative software (adobe suite, autodesk,...) - nvidia + windows offering much more for less money?
-no crossfire support on OS X. Any particular reason for that?
-no 10-bit support for 10-bit displays. Why not? Hardware is capable, why software isn't?
-lack of openCL software out there. Apple isn't doing much to get more support or developers just too lazy to put more effort into this? GPGPU isn't the future as some companies are trying to convince us?

    Grant Bennet-Alder wrote:
All displays are supported by one GPU -- the display GPU. The second GPU is reserved for un-interrupted GPU computing and has no Display output Hardware.
Anandtech has a discussion of this in his review of the late 2013 Mac Pro.
Under OS X the situation is a bit more complicated. There is no system-wide CrossFire X equivalent that will automatically split up rendering tasks across both GPUs.
By default, one GPU is setup for display duties while the other is used exclusively for GPU compute workloads. GPUs are notoriously bad at context switching, which can severely limit compute performance if the GPU also has to deal with the rendering workloads associated with display in a modern OS. NVIDIA sought to address a similar problem with their Maximus technology, combining Quadro and Tesla cards into a single system for display and compute.
    from section 9:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/7603/mac-pro-review-late-2013/9
Another problem here: on windows bootcamp crossfire IS working, but not in OS X. As I wrote, sometimes it would be better to get more rendering power than computing power (actually at current state of GPU computing software, computing GPU isn't working very much if at all). It would be nice to have an option to switch on and off crossfire so we could use more rendering power when needed.
Also not all people are doing video rendering on their computers. What about 3D modelling and 2D work in photosohp? And maybe people like me are occasionally wish to play some games on their mac?
You linked me GPU usage from one program (probably adobe after effects or premiere pro or apple final cut X?), that is probably one of the only pieces of software that actually uses both GPU's under OS X. I made same experiment with software I use and I even tested some software I don't use but it is advertised it is "optimized" for mac pro like pixelmator.
And guess what? Second GPU is 99% time idle. Even when some stuff is using openCL in Photoshop, stuff is still computed on rendering GPU and not on computing one, which makes computing GPU just a good room warmer as I wrote before. Wouldn't be better to at least use second GPU for something than heating air?

  • Font rendering across OS's

    Hi,
Hopefully this is a simple question.
I'm using Java2D to generate PNG's for a webapp. When I develop on my windows box, the font rendering looks great. When I push it out to my Linux server, the font's look awful.
In a best case, I like to make my fonts look great on both OS's, but I'll take making them look consistent. I assume that this is happening because Java2d id reaching out to the OS for font rendering. Since I'm operating in headless mode, though, I'd expect two PNG's to be byte for byte identical. If anyone can tell me how to do this I's appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Jim
PS - Using Java 5, could move to 6 if a solution necessitated it, but would be a hassle.

JDK 5 and 6 uses same library to rasterize text and this library is not platform dependent.
But most of fonts are platform and even system dependent.
If you want identical images you need to be sure that same fonts are being used.
E.g. try to use Lucida Sans font shipped with JDK.
Note that if requested font is not available it will be substituted with default font.
Also note that logic fonts (e.g. Dialog) are always availbale but they are actually mapped to set of
    platform dependent fonts.

  • Openoffice and font rendering

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to have openoffice render my fonts the same way as fonts are being rendered in other programs? It obviosly doesn't seem to care about the .fonts.conf file, but instead seems to have it's own rendering technique, which gives me very bad font rendering. I don't know why Openoffice has chosen to do it's own font rendering, but is there anyway to change that?
The only option for font rendering in Openoffice is turning antialiasing on and off from a certain font size, but there's nothing about autohinter or subpixel hinting etc.
    Regards,
    Simon

It's not any font in particular, it's all fonts that are being rendered differently than in other programs, and this can only be due to the fact that Openoffice for some reason has its own way of rendering fonts. I don't know why and I don't know how to make it render fonts the way other programs do.

  • [SOLVED] Bad font rendering and overlapping since last update

Hi all! Since the last updates I'm getting font rendering problems. I'm seeing something like this in lots of applications:
See the "ce" in Facebook, those letters are kinda overlapped! This happens in Nautilus too, for example in the word "devel". I'm using the Ubuntu patches for font rendering, but actually I have problems even with the stock packages.
I'm on a fresh install right now (I really needed to clean the old one, too much experimenting xD) and I keep having this problem.
    Can anyone help me?
SOLVED I downgraded pango from 1.32.1-1 to 1.30.1-1 and everything went back to normality

  • DRM support for newer radeons?

My RadeonHD 4650 has been supported by Linux's DRM system for over a year..
It has been supported by FreeBSD for nearly as long, as well...
Yet, I am told that there isn't any support for direct rendering for my card under Solaris?
If that is true, then that is crap, pure and simple.

    Hi Alain,
Chromecast will ONLY stream video to displays where it can detect that HDCP is engaged.  So in essence, it doesn't matter what Output Protection restriction is specified in the Adobe Access DRM Policy, the stream will only be played with Output Protection engaged.
That was the "allow streaming" use case.
Regarding the opposite use case, "don't allow streaming to chromecast", Adobe Access DRM currently does not have any mechanism to detect and disable streaming to a Chromecast device.
    cheers,
    /Eric.

  • Please develop rendering support for traditional mongolian script.

A major barrier for me to move from Window to Mac is that Mac doesn't have rendering support for my own language: traditional Mongolian, whereas Microsoft does it pretty well. For example, for this major news website in traditional Mongolian: http://www.mgyxw.net/, IE is able to show everything but Mac cannot. Please develop this support as soon as possible (and also the keyboard input support as Microsoft did).

Could you post a screen shot?  It looks to me like the text of this site is not in standard unicode, but in some sort of  private use area encoding.  If that is the case, you can be sure Apple will never support display of this page.  Have you installed some special custom font to see it?
