Clef limitation in score mode
I am using Garage Band '09 with OS X Yosemite. I'd like to have my piano students play their original compositions on my midi keyboard and have garageband notate it in score mode. A huge limitation is the middle C cutoff between treble and bass clefs. We need the ability to notate below middle C in treble clef and above middle C in bass clef. I cannot find a solution to this anywhere. Please tell me it is possible. Thanks!
Laurie
Hi
You can set the key a number of ways, including:
In the Score, drag the key Signature in from the Partbox onto the Stave

How to display demisemiquavers in score mode?
Hi.
I have demisemiquavers on the midi editor (piano roll), the display quantize window set to 32, and still the score keeps on showing the notes as semi-quaver clusters. Any tips on how to do it? Thanks. Thanks for pointing that out. Still, it wouldn't work.
But I found the problem!
In the inspector window, the "Interpretation" option is ticked. It has to be unticked.
And, while selecting the quantization in the Display Quantize window, the notes to be seen have to be highlighted / selected in score mode.
Weird thing, but it worked! -
Viewing limits & average score on dvd
does anyone know if dvd studio pro 4 has the capability of limiting the number of times a dvd can be viewed once it's burned. for example, via a script can you set a viewing limit of say 25 times and on the 26th time the dvd will not be useable?
also i'm creating an interactive test and would like to know if studio pro will be able to provide avg scores at the end of the test session via a script. plz advise. You can limit the number times a track or menu is viewed by adding a value to a GPRM each time that portion of the disc is accessed. Another script can be used to check that value. Once it reaches 25 it can no longer allow that portion of the disc to played. The problem is that registers are re-set once you eject a disc so its only possible once a disc starts.
You can determine averages of scores with scripts as well. Lets say you have 10 questions. Each correct answer adds a value to a GPRM. An incorrect answer add NO value. So after the test session you can determine the avg score with a script like:
1. go to 12 if GPRM 0=0
2 go to 13 if GPRM 0=1
3 go to 14 if GPRM 0=2
4 go to 15 if GPRM 0=3
5 go to 16 if GPRM 0=4
6 go to 17 if GPRM 0=5
7 go to 18 if GPRM 0=6
8 go to 19 if GPRM 0=7
9 go to 20 if GPRM 0=8
10 go to 21 if GPRM 0=9
11 go to 22 if GPRM 0=10
12 Jump Menu "no correct answers"
13 Jump Menu "10% correct"
14 Jump Menu "20% correct"
15 Jump Menu "30% correct"
16 Jump Menu "40% correct"
17 Jump Menu "50% correct"
18 Jump Menu "60% correct"
19 Jump Menu "70% correct"
20 Jump Menu "80% correct"
21 Jump Menu "90% correct"
22 Jump Menu "100% correct"
Remember you'll need to design different menus for each percentage correct reading. You can also use Compare option ( "<">=", ect) to determine your percentages. There are different ways to achieve the same thing in scripting - The script above is just how I think
Also Hal Mclean does a much better job at explaining these things so I hope he comes around tonight. -

Why is my bandwidth limited in direct mode?
I have 150 Mbps internet service. I am only seeing 20Mbps on my Air using Airport Express. I have two, they both have the same result.
If I connect the Air to the modem (in bridge mode) directly through thunderbolt to ethernet, I get 150 Mbps, with either ethernet wire.
If I connect the Air to the Airport Express directly through the same wire, and the Express connected to the modem in bridge mode, I get 20Mbps. Note that I did a hard reset, so the router should not be performing any functions. In this mode, the Airport Express does not show up in AirPort Utility as expected.
How is it possible the Airport would be reducing the bandwidth to such a low level? I'm taking the modem back tomorrow, I'm wondering if it's going into some odd handshaking mode.
Just FYI, Wifi in 2.4G and 5G result in same 20Mbps. I've verified the Air is in 802.11n mode.
Thanks!I thought 802.11n was up to 300Mbps?
"up to" means exactly that.....the product can operate anywhere up to 300 Mbps.
But, "up to", does not mean that it will operate at 300 Mbps.
Your actual wireless connection link is determined by a number of different factors. Some of these, like interference, are beyond your control.
But, for the sake of argument......let's say that the AirPort Express is operating at 270 Mbps. That 270 Mbps will get choked down to 100 Mbps when it reaches the 100 Mbps port on the AirPort Express. You have now lost 2/3 of the speed on the network. -
E4200 limitations in Bridge Mode
Hi,
My setup goes like this: I have a Fiber to Ethernet connector from my ISP. The Ethernet cable goes to an iSP issued Zyxel router. Into this router the landline phoneservice connects to give us VoIP landline service (which is cheaper). An Ethernet cable goes from the Internet port on the E4200 to a LAN port on the Zyxel router. That works great but I had to put the E4200 into Bridge Mode to get it to connect to the Internet via the Zyxel router which I need to use the phone services my ISP provides.
I bought the E4200 because I wanted to use the dualband functionally and get a 802.11N 5GHz network setup and to give me the ability to block certian websites and services which I knew Cisco/Linksys is famous for - the abillity to control your network.
Well then imagine my surprise when I could not use the Parental Control settings when the router is in Bridge Mode... This was the reason I bought this router over an Apple Airport Exreme. Is there anyway to get it to let me use the Parental Control anyway while in Bridge Mode or a better way for me to connect the router with the rest of my network?
Thanks for any help!
Solved!
Go to Solution. If you don't have any devices (primarily gaming devices) which require an open NAT, then you can connect an ethernet cable from the Zyxel router to your E4200's Internet port and just use it like a normal router without bridge mode.
Just make sure the E4200's ip address is on a different subnet (Just change the third octet (number in the third decimal place) to something other than the one used as the Zyxel's default IP.
You could call your ISP and ask them how to dumb down the Zyxel so that you can use the E4200 as the primary router and the Zyxel as a modem too.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help. -
Notes between Bass clef and Treble clef in Score Editor?
I'm trying to enter the notes between the Bass clef and Treble clef in the Score Editor, but Logic's defaut settings won't allow it.
Basically I need to enter the notes C, D, E and F, right above the bass clef. Technically speaking I would need 2 more ledger lines on top of the Bass clef.
Please help.Hi,
set the bass clef to another MIDI channel. Maybe treble MIDI ch 1, bass MIDI ch2. Now select the notes you want to show up in the bass clef and change their channel to 2.
In the Notation Edtor, select CTRL-ALT-CMD-S. There you can edit the properties of each separate staff. Scroll to the right: The "easy" way is to set another split point between bass and treble clef. The other way is to assign separate channels.

LE7:Score Layout:Global Format:Maximum Bars per Line - Line Break Bug!
Hello
This problem occurs in Logic Express version 7.
(I am using MacOS version 10.4.2 on an eMac)
I am currently compiling and editing a large score for a big band composition consisting of 22 parts:
Flute 1
Flute 2
Clarinet 1
Clarinet 2
Alto Sax 1
Alto Sax 2
Tenor Sax 1
Tenor Sax 2
Baritone Sax
Trombone 1
Trombone 2
Trombone 3
Trombone 4
Trumpet 1
Trumpet 2
Trumpet 3
Trumpet 4
Guitar
Keyboard
Electric Bass
Percussion 1 (Kit)
Percussion 2 (Aux)
I am creating the score in a separate file, and I am combining parts into 1 stave each by instrument like this:
Flute 1 & 2
Clarinet 1 & 2
Alto Sax 1 & 2
Tenor Sax 1 & 2
Baritone Sax
Trombone 1 - 4
Trumpet 1 - 4
Guitar
Keyboard (2 staves)
Bass
Percussion
Each instrument, with the exception of keyboard which has 2 staves, consists of one stave, making up systems of twelve staves each. By sizing down each score style to 2,
I have managed to fit 2 systems onto each page, therefore significantly reducing the amount of paper needed.
The problem comes when organising the layout of my score,
in particular, the line breaks. Using layout:global format, I have limited the maximum number of bars per line to 8, both in the page edit and normal score mode.
I am trying to divide up my score so that there are 8 bars per system. Using the white arrow tool, I am dragging bars up and down in order to achieve this.
However, when I get 30 odd bars in, I discover a system with 12 bars crammed into it - and even printing it off, it is clear that the system could benefit with less bars; the notation is squashed up together and not very easy to read.
THIS IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:
So I tried using the white arrow to move the last 4 bars down onto the next system, and a bug occurs where I end up with about 20 bars on the system, oddly distorted, the first few bars of which are squashed up together at the beginning of the line, and the last bar of which is stretched far off the right hand side of the page out of view. Then the next 20 or so bars are no where to be seen (probably far off the right hand side of the page) before the system below.
If you dont know what I am talking about, I could provide a screenshot if you request.
I have tried everything to get 8 bars on that particular system; dragging the stretched bar downwards, dragging squashed bars downward, moving bars down 1 by 1, moving bars onto the system above, moving bars away from the system below (to make room for the 4 bars that I want to move from above), adding more bars and dragging them down, but none of these methods have worked. I am either stuck with 12 bars crammed onto one system and 4 bars on the next or an oddly distorted version of the system which cannot possibly be read. Even when I settle with the unsatistactory former, I encounter further problems on subsequent systems below, some systems of which are already distorted.
All I want is to have 8 bars per system, it should not be too much to ask! The layout:global format:maximum-bars-per-line calculation seems to be redundant, even when I reset the default line breaks - it just does not automatically set 8 bars per line, which it should do. Is there not an option to determine bars individually by number onto their respective lines, without having to use the white arrow graphic layout tool?
The problem is extremely frustrating, and it is preventing me from completing, presenting and handing in a score for my university music composition.
I have no other score producing software, and starting it
from scratch on paper is going to take me weeks, because it consists of 830 12/8 bars in 22 parts, and I need to get it ready by next term!
Any help would be extremely helpful and much appreciated, especially a patch or a useful way round. It could be related to memory, or hard drive space, as I have experienced similar problems in the past, where my score has been stretched off the page during a time when I have had little disk space...and this is a very large piece of music which might stretch the score capabilities of Logic.
If so, has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks!
Rory
eMac Mac OS X (10.4.2)
eMac Mac OS X (10.4.2)nope just cutting should work.
here are some things to try:
1. try assigning a different score style. for the regions. duplicate and then adjust the default ones if necessary.
2. try creating a new instrument set. in fact delete them and make a new one (use the key command: create instrument set from selected)
3. it may be a formatting problem so check:
in global layout constant spacing (try 8 or 9) and proportional spacing (try 45 or so). then try factory defaults.
4. try copying and pasting the midi into a brand new region and looking at the score for that.
5. try fiddling with the layout tool drqagging bars up or down.
normally simply cutting the region of just one object is enough to force a redraw. maybe try it on all of the regions. what happens when you double click on a region? -
What is the penalty in interrupt mode?
I am very interested in knowing the limitations of interrupt mode for my application. I will use a 4472 and I need max sampling rate (100 KS/s each channel), connected to a 6034 (1 channel 100 KHz) with RTSI. I will use pre-trigger mode. Will interrupt mode support this?
I need interrupt mode because i need to know when the trigger arrives in order to "more or less" sinchronize with some devices not from nationalIgnacio;
I'm assuming you are interested on configuring the data transfer of your data acquisition devices to be interrupt based.
If that is the case, the data transfer performance will drop in relation to the DMA based data transfer. Furthermore, the data transfer will be system dependent, meaning that the maximum transfer rate will be determine by how fast your machine handles the interrupts.
The only limitation is the sample rate of your acquisition. In case you set the data transfer to be interrupt based, you will probably need to drop the sample rate in order the on board FIFO not to be overflowed.
Hope this helps.

ISE inline posture limitation.
Hi all,
Can any one help me in configuration of ISE in inline posture mode. and What are the limitation of this mode. The following are known limitations for Inline Posture in Cisco ISE, Release 1.0.
• Inline Posture is not supported in a virtual environment, such as VMware.
• Backup and restore is not available for Inline Posture nodes in Cisco ISE, Release 1.0.
• The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Agent is not supported by Inline Posture.
• The Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) is not supported by Inline Posture.

Is user mode driver mandatory for WDDM 1.1 driver model?
Dear all,
I am a fresh newbie in Windows driver development .Only one 3 hours of MSDN search experience in Windows Driver. :(
Trying to learn how to write a WDDM driver for a very basic graphics card. What I understood is: we require a user mode driver as well as a display miniport driver as per WDDM 1.1 driver model working. But I have also seen an alternative path like the following:
Application -> Win32GDI -> Win32K.sys -> Dxgkrnl.sys -> Display Miniport driver (kernel mode driver)
So if I am trying to make a dummy driver up and running with very basic functionality (no 3D support and other advanced features), can I make only the display miniport driver and ignoring the user mode driver installation?
Is this alternative path option possible (only display miniport driver and no user mode driver; application shall use only Win32GDI APIs.)?
Could anyone please answer to my query? I need a very basic driver framework to start with WDDM driver model. Unfortunately, I didn't find any example codes for this category. :( Please please please support.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Regards,
DayalOfficial answer: WDDM User Mode Driver is always needed.
Inofficial answer: ONLY on Windows 7, ONLY when AERO glass transparency look is turned off, ONLY when NOT running any 3D application nor DXVA video application (e.g. Media Player) a WDDM Kernel Mode Driver operates without the WDDM User Mode Driver loaded.
WDDM User Mode Driver should still be present, but an empty DLL can be used.
This can be used as a starting point for own WDDM driver development. Such a very limited WDDM kernel mode driver can be developed without having to worry about the topic "WDDM User Mode Driver".
PS: For an open source WDDM adapter driver sample, check Virtual Box.

Remove the ISO limitation on the powershot cameras with the new CMOS sensor
I like to take profesional looking photos and have full control of my camera, I like to use a powerhsot as it's compact, light and not too pricey incase something bad happens to it as I take it into some pretty risky sitations.
I have a PowerShot sx700 and have had no problems with this camera except that I encountered an ISO limitation to ISO100 when I set the shutter speed to times longer than 1sec. I like to take long exposure photos at night of times up to 15 or 30 seconds and somtimes they require a very high ISO. There is no CHDK firmware avaliable for this camera yet, otherwise I'de be more then happy to void my warranty to install that firmware to get a fully functional camera.
Who here agrees that canon should update its firmaware to remove this limitation in manual mode? and if it's not too much to ask; extened maximum shutter speed time to 30 seconds.Skirball wrote:
I'll say with near certainty that Canon will not release a firmware update to address this. Aside from their top-of-the-line dSLR like the 1dX and 5d3, they rarely release firmware to add features, only fix programming errors. I don't pay too much attention to point and shoot updates, but even on the Rebel series dSLR they rarely fix anything because they simply release a new version every year and expect people to just upgrade if they're unhappy with their current model.
They added some new features and enhancements to the 7D a couple of years ago. They bragged about it a bit more than the changes justified, but they did add one really useful feature: the ability to control the names given to the image files. So when you do a photo shoot with two or more cameras, it's easier to tell which camera took which image when you start editing.

Selecting multiple tracks for score purposes
I posted an earlier question about how to have the score reflect multiple tracks. What I have discovered is that the Score mode only displays the selected track, although the Piano Roll mode, which I have used for composing, will display all selected regions. I have researched the forum entries and no one seems to have an answer as to how to select multiple tracks. Apple-A doesn't work on tracks, and shift-click or apple-click doesn't either. What is the secret? Previous replies to others' similar questions actually questioned why you need it anyway. Multiple track scoring needs it!
Help, please.
HerbFox, I appreciate the time you must take to answer all these questions. I did what you suggested, but it still is not displaying the two instrument tracks I set up in a score set. Some more interesting phenomena: I tried merging regions, but got a composite staff that wouldn't work. When I undid the merge, an amazing thing happened: The score showed both parts! But as soon as I selected a region, the score reverted to the one track. The only other clue to the problem is that the two original regions were set up as midi, but the notes were entered with the step entry keyboard.
Any ideas? Should I dump preferences and restart (an old Final Cut Pro technique)? -
Need key commands list - complete
can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:
