CLI/MPD Player + iPod

Now I haven't used any of these: currently I've just been sticking to RhythmBox, since amarok is bloat and doesn't even seem to work right.
I'm looking for a cli player (prefferably MPD) that will let me listen to my iPod Classic while it's charging. The problem I'm assuming it will have is I will go to the directory and it will look like this:
And I'll be searching through tons of folders with random files...
So I was just asking if any of these CLI players have support to work like Amarok & RhythmBox.

You're welcome. You can hear samples off of every track from the new album at Gong's home. Just follow the link in the News section:

  • I have a 2cd Generation iPod touch and it will not read on finder or iTunes.

    My friend comes to me anything and everything I.T, especially when it comes to his iPod. He came to me the other day, Tuesday to be exact and told me his iPod wasn't showing up on his computer. We both have MacBook Airs as given to us by our school. His charger doesn't work so we used my iPhone charger which has never been a problem before. The iPod used to be his cousins and she upgraded and gave him that iPod. I believe it was synced to a Windows computer. He told me it wasn't showing up but yet it claims to be charging, even giving me the sound when we hooked it to the computer. He hasn't downloaded anything yet, so I soft reseted the iPod by going into settings->general->erase all content and I let it do its thing. Its giving me the USB-->iTunes logo and I know I can't get back into the iPod because it's erased. Huge mistake I made. I let it charge overnight so the battery is fully full. We both updated our iTunes and our computers software. I tried putting it into DFU mode and it dosen't do anything. I turned it off and plugged it in and it comes on, but still dosen't read on iTunes nor Finder. I tried deleting apple mobile sync but its not even a source on my computer. Im usually good with finding things & I don't give up until I fixed it. When it comes down to me posting in forums, that means its serious lol, please, I need help. Help Please!
    p.s: because I reseted it, I am not able to figure out what operating system it's in and cannot figure out its last update, as a fyi.

    If it never worked before for your friend, it could be broken (or was working unreliably).  There may be a reason your friend's cousin gave it away.
    If it does not appear in iTunes, what you can try is more limited.  It did operate by itself (when disconnected), correct, although it may now be erased?  So it still charges when connected?
    Also, you are connecting it to a connection that definitely works with your iPhone, right?  So we can rule out iTunes, the Mac's USB port, and the docking cable as reasons the iPod is not connecting.
    If you have not already, you can try resetting the iPod while it is connected to the Mac (with iTunes running)

    Also, this forum category is actually for older (music player) iPods.  You may want to summarize what you know so far and ask the question in a new topic here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipod/ipod_touch
    which is the forum category for iPod touch.  More iPod touch users are likely to read your question there.  I could request that this topic be moved there, but a brand new questions will be read more often.

    I don't know if I already asked the question so here I go again. • Ignoring ipod firmware partition?

    This has been driving me nuts for awhile. I've done alot of googling, and still can't seem to find anything that works.
    In Thunar, it shows my ipod's firmware partition as "Apple iPod Music Player", but when I click on it I get the following error:
    Given device "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part1_size_41094144" is not a volume or drive.
    I've tried to set a hal rule to ignore it, but it seems to have no effect.
    /etc/hal/fdi/policy/90-user-policy.fdi
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="block.device" string="/dev/sdf1">
    <merge key="volume.ignore" type="bool">true</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    According to lshal, the rule is set
    volume.ignore = true (bool)
    but Thunar is ignoring it? Or should I be setting something different all together to get it to ignore it? :S

    You're not...
    I'm using an Ipod (Nano 2Gb, grey or silver as you like... do not really know its "generation" but I guess it's one of the last as I bought it some months ago...)
    However I have no problems using it... When I plug it and open Thunar, it shows 2 devices :
    - Apple iPod Music Player
    - IPOD (FRED) (just below the latter)
    And by clicking on IPOD (FRED) it mounts it and I can use gtkpod without any problems...
    Truly it's strange that it shows 2 devices, though as long as it works...
    I cannot truly help you as I did not do anything particular to make it work (except adding me to the storage group for hal)...
    Though I'll try to see if there is something particular somewhere that makes it work...
    Hope you'll manage to get it to work...
    Good luck !
    EDIT :
    Here is a screenshot that shows my thunar when my Ipod is plugged into the laptop.

    My iPod won't turn on.
    My iPod won't wake up.
    Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.
    iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
    When restoring the iPod, it's recommended to put it into disk mode first.

  • Uploading calendar from sony clie

    How do I get calendar data, address data, etc. from my Sony Clie to the ipod touch without typing everything manually?  The Clie itself is dead so the files are on my PC with Vista operating system.

    Can you sync the Clie data to someprogam that the iPod can sync with?
    Can you export the the data  and then import the data in a program that the iPod can sync with.  This usually applies to Address book.

  • What app is necessary to open Real Player?

    New ipod touch. Have tried to download Real Player, ipod will not do it. Goes as far as upload and install but says I lack the app to open. What app?

    You cannot download anything from the internet onto the ipod.
    The ONLY programs you can download MUST come from the app store.
    I don't think that there is a real player app.

    Hi Subw00er,
    From what I see on the iPod nano spec page, it doesn't do apps. It's a music/picture/podcast player.

  • Disposable iPods

    Has anyone else purchased a disposable iPod? I purchased one for my husband in 12/04; was not told about the extended warranty; and he has experienced difficulty with it in the last several weeks. We took it into the Apple Store in which it was purchased and they told us it was "dead". Our options were 1) trade it in on a new one ($399) and get a 10% discount or 2) pay $250 to have it fixed. When I questioned this due to the short period of time we have owned the product, and the very limited amount of hours it has been played, we were told that the hard drives are only good for 1-2 years and that this is how the apple products work. I bought this for my husband to use for travel, he uses it maybe 4 hours a week. In addition I have purchased the mini ipod for our daughter with many accessories along with the bluetooth product, the car adapter and the $200 desk top speakers. The staff was very unprofessional and very unhelpful. When we asked why we would purchase another product that may only last 1-2 years, we were told that "is the luck of the draw". Not only are we not going to have it repaired or purhase another one...we will never purchase another apple product or recommend it to anyone! A company that cannot stand behind its product should not be in business. As far as I am concerned they have created a disposable player that is only good for 15 months and then you are forced to spend $300 for a new one. I would just as well spend that money on batteries for an MP3 player.
    iPod   Windows XP

    we were told that the hard drives are only good for 1-2 years
    and that this is how the apple products work.
    This is bogus and completely incorrect information. I have a 2nd generation iPod purchased in 2002 that still works.
    Apple does not manufacture hard drives, neither does Dell or any other PC manufacturer.
    iPods have a hard drive (the Mini and Nano have a flash drive) and with any hard drive on any computer - PC or Mac, the majority last longer than 1-2 years but none last forever. It isn't a matter of if but when the hard drive on your Windows PC has a partial or complete failure and the same with any computer regardless the platform.
    I have an Apple G3 PowerBook purchased in 2000 and during the first year without warning, I experienced a completed hard drive failure. Apple replaced the hard drive under the standard 1-yr warranty period and this was the first and only time I've experienced this with a number of Apple computers I've owned over the years. My G3 PB with replaced hard drive still works and I also have a G4 TiBook purchased in 2002 and currently on loan to my girlfriend that is still going strong.
    I would contact Apple customer support regarding the incorrect information you were told at this Apple Store but, iPods have a limited standard warranty as do Apple computers and all PCs. If the hard drive failed on your Windows PC after the standard warranty period expired (and many certainly do), the PC manufacturer would not replace the hard drive for free either.

  • Is there any way I can talk to an iPod employee to get help?

    I have problems with my iPod nano that nobody on the discussion board can answer... Is there any way I can have a conversation with an administrator or somebody who can help me?

    It's been just over an hour. Give it some time.
    You posted back in February but did not respond to that post. I take it that your problem with the iPod not turning on was resolved?
    As for your fixing your current problem (skipping songs), do these play okay in iTunes?
    Have you tried Restoring the iPod?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 "Export Settings" window does not show up.

    Hello,
    I've run into a new problem with Premiere Pro CS4. Basically, when I select "File > Export > Media" my Export Settings window doesn't show up. If I click on the Premiere window I hear the beeping sound and nothing happens, if I hit Enter the Export Data window pops up and then Media Encoder opens. So, it seems that my Export Settings window is still open but I can't see it and make the necessary setting changes. It does not appear to be minimized and I can not locate it on my desktop anywhere. This is really frustrating because I was able to see the Export Settings window just a few weeks ago when I was exporting my last project. I've tried changing my screen resolutions but that didnt reveal the Export Settings window.
    Does anyone know what is going on here and, more importantly, how I can fix it? I am really stuck here and am working against a deadline. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
    -Ben

    Ben,
    THANK YOU!!!! For two days I have been struggling with the exact same issue. And of course it was simple to fix, if I had just thought about it. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I had tried all sorts of stuff trying to get everything onto my #1 monitor, with desktop & workspace resets, resizing my display, etc. After reading and printing your post,
    Hitting ALT+Space,
    Down Arrow,
    Enter,
    and then pressing the left arrow and watching my Export window slide into view, I was laughing so hard, that I was tearing up. It would have been a month waiting for my second monitor to get repaired to get to see what was still being displayed on this ghost monitor. Each week, I video and edit our church's service and then post three versions (Windows Media Player, Ipod-MP4, MP3 Audio) of it to our web site. I would have been four weeks behind were it not for your post.
    Again, a BIG Thank You!!!

  • Using Canopus ADVC300 (or similar products...)

    Hi - figured I'd start this in a new thread....
    I'm trying to import a lot of old home movies into iMovie (or Final Cut) from both VHS and DVD. The usual DVD conversion tricks (Cinematize, etc.) get the job done but result in a LOT of noticeable quality loss, which is a big problem when dealing with bad quality home footage to begin with. I was thinking about investing in this Canopus ADVC300, which seems to be the perfect solution for my VHS tapes... but can I use this product for DVDs as well? I.e. can I plug a 3rd party DVD player into the Canopus and have it "clean it up" and convert to DV the same way it does to VHS? Is there another product that would do the same thing? I'm perfectly willing to invest in the $500 or so that the Canopus costs - but not if there's a better option or if this won't work for my purposes.
    Any help or suggestions would be great -
    Thanks!

    REPEAT OF ANSWER POSTED ELSWHERE FOR YOU:
    Will this product allow for conversion from a DVD player as well, or just VHS?
    Yes. In fact, they will work with an device capable of outputting a composite and/or S-Video analog signals and mono/stereo analog audio signals that you would normally plug directly into your TV to watch -- TV tuner, Sat receiver, VHS, VHS-C, beta, Video8, Hi-8, camcorders, some digital cameras, DVD player, iPod, etc.
    I'm able to put my DVD home movies into iMovie through Cinematize (using my computer's DVD drive), but the quality loss, combined with the quality loss of iDVD, is almost unbearable... especially since I'm using old, low-quality footage to begin with.
    The preferred method here is to keep the content in a digital format rather than converting to analog and then recapturing to DV for use in an editor. Since it sounds as if these are personal, unencrypted DVD content, normally you would simply copy the the VOB title sets to your hard drive, convert them to an editor compatible format, import them to your editor, and re-edit as needed. The strategy here is to convert the moderately high distribution compression format to a low compression, high data rate compression format for editing. This process is not designed to improve the quality of your DVD content, but rather to prevent further loss in quality. When done properly, there should be little "visual" loss between the original DVD content and your final product. In fact you may be able to adjust contrast, brightness, or and/or saturation of the video if it is a poor as you indicate.

  • Move iTunes collection to media server?

    My iTunes mp3's are currently on my notebook but I would like to move them to an attached network media server (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=586) that has the ability to stream music so I can play them in my home using other devices. Can someone tell me the best way to move my files to an external hard drive and not lose all playlists, ratings, etc when I play them or sync using iTunes? Obviously right now the files in iTunes all point to my local hard drive but I would like to move them and not rebuild everything.
    Thank you.
    Sally

    the best way i have found to do this is actually make 2 copies of your music folder on the external harddrive. keep 1 for itunes and 1 for other sources. i then changed my computers defalt music player to windows media player. i then re-loaded 1 of the files into the computer into media player and it tagged the music. i then saved this file from media player to the harddrive. this worked with the cd's ive downloaded and some of the music purchased from itunes, but i cannot be certain all itunes songs converted over, my database is 18,735 songs so this took 3 computers since i didnt have enough space on any 1 computer for such a large job. with album artwork it was like 198GB or so, just the music alone is 97.8 GB. then you can delete 1 of the 2 origional files off your ex harddrive. this way music can go on any mp3 player, ipod touch and flash drives for cars and boats home computer to computer or sharing.
    THE ONLY THING I HAVENT FIGURED OUT YET IS THE ALBUM COVERS HAVING A PROBLEM KEEPING THEM ON THE HARDDRIVE IN A SEPERATE FILE.
