CLI template creator with variables - where to start

Hello people !
I would like to be able to create a template that checks a device hostname and takes actions according to it - my goal is to enable Energy Wise Domains - one for every location.
If I could have LMS4.2 to check the hostname of the device then would be easy to attribute the device to the aproppriate domain.
Exam.
Device hostname AAAA_switch1 - Domain 1
Device hostname AAAA_switch2 - Domain 1
Device hostname BBBB_switch1 - Domain 2
I have read several threads about this but I am not being able to understand where is the best place to start.
Any help would be most apprecciated and will be rewarded with the deserved points

I am moving forward on my quest and hope that someone will give me a hand at some point - these are my first steps on XML on LMS so I'll probably do some not so clever remarks.
Anyway to start I have created a cli template and exported it - that way I would have an XML file with the correct structure - I thought :).
Even if I dont do any changes and try so simply import to LMS the file created on the template I get the error message:
"Template import Failed. Unable to parse the XML file.Please ensure that the XML file is complaint to the schema."
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Newbee: I want to Podcast with Apple - where to start?

Hi,
I am in a WINDOWS environment trying to give apple technology a chance. At Heilbronn university we want to experiment with podcast technology using apples podcast producer. Blue-eyed I tried to install the Server OS and, as the next step, tried to configure the machine using the "podcast producer administration guide". I failed. E.g. the guide tells me to set up DNS to strange addresses, but only HOW, not WHY. And it doesn't work.
So I need help:
I have an environment where the server (mac mini) is attached via ethernet (manual DHCP with static IP address) using our university DNS. Our university has its own mail server, its own LDAP Server, etc.
Attachment to LDAP is not needed but I want to use a macbook air to capture the podcasts.
Where should I start?
Any help is welcome.

Your setup is similar to one i've just deployed for a college here in England.
Are you planning on using Podcast Capture or quicktime on the macbook air to capture the podcasts? You have to login to the mac server in order to submit the podcasts, and that requires a user account either standalone on the mac server's openldap, or your university wide LDAP.
The other options depend on exactly what you want to do with your podcasts. You might not need a mail server at all if you're not publishing notifications..
As for DNS, its actually fairly simple. You just need the FQDN of the mac server to be published on the network you will be using to connect to the mac server from the macbook air, and it needs a reverse DNS entry for the same.
I hope this helps, but feel free to ask detailed questions on anything i've missed.

Mac Pro keeps crashing when using with KVM. where to start my investigation

hi guys.
i have recently ordered ATEN CS-1762 KVM switch (2 ports model) to control my Mac and PC with a single keyboard and mouse. This KVM supports USB and DVI. the problem i have is Mac crashing when i switch from PC. I contacted mfg lately and they are unaware of this issue due to not having Mac Pro to test with this appliance. They have tested it with Mac Mini, G4 and G5 though and all was OK. based on this they put a description that this box is compatible with Mac. Anyway, being relatively new Mac user i ask for your help.
here are my steps and some ATEN's thoughts:
1. accroding to ATEN tech support, i should power up my second computer after the first one was started and is running. firstly i start the Mac Pro, 5 mins after that i power up my PC.
2. When both computers are up and running (Mac is in KVM focus), i switch to PC and all seems OK. I have noticed though that if NumLock is activated during the PC session, I won't be able to switch back to Mac. However, even though NumLock is OFF i still may have troubles when switching back to Mac. So it is not the rule, but maybe the clue to start with..
NOTES:
1. if i start PC first, Mac won't start at all. The power led will be on, but there will be no picture on the monitor and it won't accept any keyboard/mouse inputs as well as it will be network inaccessible.
2. I tried looking into Mac's logs but need your help in getting this clear.
here is the log. as you will see it stops at 13:04 and then continues at 13:08 after reboot.
i've seen some parallel's VMs but i don't have Parallels installed. i used to have it, but then it never happened to work so i deleted it from the machine. can this be the case it is still somewhere?
pls guys, any thoughts are very welcome!!!
PS: i can cause Mac to crash the same way if necessary or if log looks inclomplete. the thing forgot to mention is: when Mac crashes and i reboot it, it will not necessarily boot up completely. i've noticed that i would have to reset the KVM switch prior to Mac's successful start up. so maybe i copied the wrong log (not the one immediately after the crash). pls advise here

ok so i experimented a little with the hardware and here what i have to the moment:
1. i thought that the usb kb could be the case for mac os to crash so i disconnected the cable from the KVM and plugged normal apple kb to the mac.
2. however when i tried switching back to mac, the machine crashed again.
from what i noticed for the last few days 'working' with this kvm switch was the screen resolution changing while i was switching. meaning the screen flickered for couple of times prior to showing 1280x1024 that was set up in the system. during flickering the resoution became 1024x768. i 've seen it pretty clearly, just it was for half of a second.
also when powering up both machines, they were starting with 1024x768 and not 1280x1024 as was set up. i had to manually change the screen resolution on both machines (pc and mac) every time after successful start up.
so by far my understanding is that kvm switch forces monitor for 1024x768 during switches and on start up. it also causes the OSes (win2K and MacOSX) to lose 1280x1024 and accept 1024x768 as if the monitor was changed and couldn't operate at a higher resolution.
having said that i uploaded this info to kvm mfg (ATEN) and couple more mac forums so that this info may help someone else when ordering a kvm for mac. at the same time i am still open for any thoughts, advices and crazy ideas to get round this bug.

Can we run a query with variable screen at start up in Bex Analyzer

I have a query which asks for fiscal year and posting period at the start of query run. But when I run the query in analyzer, it gives me this error all the time.

Custom shapes/sprites with code, where to start?

Hello,
I want to start building some prebuild shapes, like a star, cross, heart, and some more with code.
Does anyone know if there is already something like this ? A library with custom sprites or shapes?
And should i create these graphics extending the sprite or shape class? I read that shapes would
be better for performance?

thanks Kglad, i did some search on this topic, but could not find
prebuild shapes in Flash. So when i want to set properties of a shape, then
it is better to use a Sprite?

Multiple problems with 80GB classic, don't know where to start.

I got an Apple classic 80GB for my bday early August and lately i've been having so many problems i dont know where to start, i'll try to explain them as best as i can.
*problem 1:* Whenever i plug my iPod into my PC, it locks up the system for about 5 minutes, then comes up with an error box saying that 'There is a problem with your iPod yadda yadda restore etc'.
I proceed to restore the iPod, then once its restored and reconnects itself, it repeats the cycle by freezing then telling me to restore. The only way i can do a restore and have it not give me an error is if i reboot when it is disconnected.
*Problem 2:* When i finally get it up and ready to sync, i go to sync all my files (About 2000 songs). It gets to around the 1500 song mark then says there is an error and the iPod disconnects itself.
It then instantaneously reconnects itself and starts syncing from where it left off.
Once it has then sync'd all of the music ad tells me its ready to be ejected. I eject the iPod and disconnected it.
I then go into the iPod and it has no songs/videos/photos, yet it has still used up about 15gb. If i reconnect it, it will just sit there for 5 minutes not syncing, it will then randomly say the sync is done and it will eject itself.
FINALLY after all that i have my music on there
*Problem 3* Once the songs are on the iPod, it becomes insanely laggy. If i navigate to a song and press play, it will take about 10 seconds for the actual song to play. The delay is just as bad for next song, pause etc. Even using it in my cars head unit causes it to lag.
*Problem 4* If i do get a song playing after all that, about 1/5 songs will just randomly skip to the next song without letting it play through.
I have all the latest iTunes/Firmware/Drivers for everything on my PC and iPod.
I have sent it back to Apple for repair yet they could not find anything wrong (Yeah right :|)
If anyone out there could help me please, im at my wits end with this infernal machine.

*Corrupt iPod photo Cache* I have never tried to put photos on it, so i dont see how this could be it.
*Lost connection:* Checked it, it's very firm and unlikely to come loose.
*Conflict with third-party hardware:* I dont have any connected, nor have i ever
*Bad hardware:* I tried it on all of my 8 USB drives. I dont use any hubs or firewire cards so this couldn't be it.
Also i forgot to add that 1/5 times i go to restore, it locks the computer up and windows gives me a 'delayed write failed' bubble

Where to start with Adobe Photoshop

I need a program to do editing, composing, etc. that does more than Printshop. I know Adobe Photoshop is the "top of the line" for design and publishing. There are SO many different versions and upgrades. It is very confusing. I don't want to make a costly mistake.
So.....what is the entry level version of Adobe Photoshop? Also do I need the upgrades that seem to be offered with each version? Thanks so much for any input.

I have no idea where to start

okay, hi! i'm trying to write a vending machine program for a class i'm taking. i have a text file with names, image URLs, and prices. I have a product class which is supposed to use filereader to read the fields in the text file. The product class is going to be loaded by the main VendMach class file, where i will have all of the main ui stuff written. No network when instantiating a template created with OVAB in Oracle VM 2.2

Hi,
I've created an OVM template with OVAB (Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder) and the default OVAB image. When creating a new VM (vm2) with it, the VM starts but the VM cannot access the world outside the bridge (xenbr0). I can however ping another VM (vm1) in the same bridge, I can also ping the main OVM server interface (dom0 xenbr0), but I can't ping a machine on my real network.
What is strange is that vm1 was installed with PXE and is well accessing outside world. In fact the DHCP server on my real network is working well and is well configured for vm1 and vm2 but only vm1 obtains its IP address. For vm2 no answer from the DHCP server, so I have to manually set the IP address of eth0 of vm2 before performing ping tests. This is another fact that goes in the same direction as "outside network unreachable from vm2 diagnostic".
Now I understand (correct me if I am wrong) that the bridge is configured automatically by OVM, so why is it ok for vm1 and not for vm2 whereas they are in the same bridge xenbr0 ? Also a strange thing (may be ?) is that the bridges configuration shows a tap interface configured for vm1 but not for vm2:

Also vm1 is using ioemu networking driver whereas vm2 is using netfront (which I can't change as I suppose OVAB was using a PV image).

Hi,
I think more this is a networking issue inside the VM.
It may well be the default Gateway is not set correctly.
Compare the output (of the working VM and the not working VM) of:
route
cat /etc/resolv.conf
cat /etc/sysconfig/network
And the network adapters:
cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1

Cli templates prime 2.1

I was wondering. Is it possible to run a CLI template that does the following.
1. Running the CDP neighbor command to find out who the neighbors are.
2. And automaticly entering a description command on the interface with the hostname and IP that it has found with the cdp neighbor command.
Im having a big network where i have description on the trunk ports who they are linked to. With device name and IP.
But im running through my network now trying to get the hostnames a bit better and more aligned.. But everytime i change a hostname i has to follow up on all the trunk ports to make sure the descriptions there are correct as well. Would be really cool if a cli template could do that job for me.

Not an answer per se but what you're describing reminded me of Prescriptive Topology Manager. It's built into Cumulus Networks' product and based on some open source work.
Ethan Banks also has a nice article on it at his blog.
(And - no, doing what you ask is not a feature that's available as of PI 2.1.)

Loosing xslt with variable when save in Jdev

I am using JDeveloper 10.3.3.0.4157. BPEL is deployed on SOA 10.1.3.3.
As part of a BPEL process I have an xslt transform to populate my outgoing message with a generated guid.

<xsl:value-of select="$messageIDVariable"/>
</corecom:EBMID>
If I change any part of the transform (like adding new mappings etc), then I save it. I get this error:
(1):xpath-expression: Error: Variable or parameter "messageIDVariable" is not available for use
Subsequently the xsl file is saved with my code referring to the variable removed.
I have deployed this bpel process (with my variable code in it) and it executes successfully filling my output message with the generated guid. So why is Jdev unhappy with it? Is my XSLT incorrect? (I'm new to this stuff so that is very possible). What does "not available for use" mean? It is declared the line above where it is used.
Go easy on me...like I said I'm new to this stuff.

Creating custom UI panels : where to start ?

Hi,
i've had a hard time searching for clear information on how to create custom panels in InDesign.
Maybe the wrong keywords, i dont know, but here i am
I would like to create a panel displaying all the "text variables" and their actual values and be able to edit them right there.
I have no idea where to start, any primers ? Cues ? Ressources ?

Well i was actually asking myself the very question : do i really need a panel ?
So far i found a script thhat pretty much does what i need :
run the script opens a window
When all the fields are populated, hit continue and the custom text variables are updated with the freshly entered information
Now i need to tweak this code to suit my variables and find a way to "get" the current values instead of the defaults ones populating the form.
So i guess i can always execute the script to update, correct and update the variable and anytime, saving me the trouble of going about creating a plugin (this scared me more that anything )
I'll make sure it runs and see whats up. Any chance i can ask you later for support if i hit a rock?
