iPod worked fine for ages until the first time I came to connect it to Kensington RDS FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod, eventually got it to work after a couple of mins – all seemed ok – did notice it skipping songs that played okay previously
BUT THEN
Later connected iPod to pc to update with iTunes, now have got or had the following issues even after resets and putting into hard disk mode:
• Low battery icon even though fully charged
• Sad face icon
• Folder with exclamation icon
• PC shows hardware connected, eventually shows in my computer
• and iTunes BUT not with correct details, says there is a problem and to restore iPod – will not restore even after install of v7.3, cannot connect to iPod updater due to resource issue
• so try to reformat from my computer but I/O device error
• should be H: drive in DOS but again I/O device error
• on the odd occasion get iPod to show menu now noticed all music gone
• iPod does not sound to have disk continually spinning when switched on, it keeps trying but then keeps pausing
Anyone any ideas I am at my wits end!!! ………… hoping to go to Apple Store @ Meadowhall end of this week – weather permitting – but would be brill if could fix it before then and avoid being charged to fix it or even worse having buy a new one!!!

I am having the same issues with the command+R mode ... and THEN... I discovered that the "click" button on my macbook's trackpad is actually not working. The solution? An external bluetooth trackpad that I installed earlier today still has the click functionality
So it looks like I all-of-a-sudden lost the "click" ability on the native track pad. And the click ability recovered once I clicked with the Track Pad. Hopefully this is enough information for the dev/QA team to research a possibility that can create this issue......
Thanks Leroy Douglas! Without you telling me about the repair mode, I might have not thought to even touch the external trackpad...I would've assumed the problem was simply the login screen or Finder or something. I am happy!

Cannot Restore Apps On Older iPhones
I am still a happy user of an iPhone 2G, running iOS 3.1.3 (the latest compatible iOS version).
Some time ago, possibly after a faulty App Store update, my Slovoed application (a German dictionary bought 2-3 years ago for $20) stopped working.
I first tried to reinstall it from the App Store : no luck, the present Slovoed version (3.28) is not compatible with iOS 3 anymore.
I then thought, no problem, since I have a Mac iTunes save of my iPhone 2G, I will restore the proper Slovoed application from iTunes : no luck, apparently iTunes kept only the latest, incompatible version of Slovoed, possibly because I was synchronizing on the same Mac not only this iPhone 2G under iOS 3.1.3 but also an iPad mini under iOS 6.1.
Searching the Internet, I then discovered that when you save/synchronize, iTunes keeps only the latest versions of Apps in the /Users/<user>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications folder, pushing the previously saved versions of the Apps to the trash.
You can recover IN THE TRASH (!!) the .ipa files of the applications... as long as you have NOT emptied the trash since.
No luck again in my case...
I then tried to get the compatible Slovoed 3.01.ipa file directly from Slovoed support : they refused "for security reasons" (?!), suggesting I get a refund from the App Store !.
At that point, I am completely stuck : I paid for an App which I cannot restore at all with the proper original version.
Bottom line : you can buy an Application on the App Store, install it on your iPhone, synchronize regularly your iPhone with a Mac or PC, and still being unable later on to restore the proper compatible version on your iPhone when you direly need it !
This would never have happened on any old Mac/PC for which you had kept the install disks !
One can understand that Apple wants to accelerate its older iPhones obsolescence, but it is completely abnormal you cannot restore from the App Store older applications you fully bought, when the latest versions have become incompatible, and while iTunes does not keep proper Apps backups.
Shame on you Apple, at some point there will be enough people with the same issue to give ground to a nice class action suite...Answering to so many posts in such an authoritative way obviously gave you a false superiority complex...
But may be if you don't want to understand what is plainly written, it is just because you are a troll paid to discourage those too critical about Apple ?
It is Apple who decided to have the App Store maintain a single App version for download, when they could as easily differentiate between versions depending on the iPhone version or iOS version.
It is Apple who built a save/restore mechanism in iTunes which does not allow restoration of Apps properly saved.
Sure, Apps developers could have Apps running on all 6 versions of iOS. But that never happened in the Mac/PC world, that will not happen in the iOS world, and anyway that's not what I am asking for.
I am asking for a save/restore mechanism WHICH WORKS and restores the iPhone in the same state it was when saved, APPS INCLUDED !!! -
Since updating my iPad 2 to IOS6 and activating my icloud for backup, my iPad has permanently locked. Message on screen is "iPad Not Backed Up". I click ok but no response. Cannot turn power off and cannot restore via my pc itunes. What are my options?
Thanks to everyone who responded and related subject helped. Holding the home button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds does unlock the screen. I can now use my ipad again. However, a futher problem has arisen since updating to IOS6 and activating icloud at same time, Although not sure if its related. The problem is that when connected to my PC the itunes message appears 'Cannot read ipad'. It instructs you to restore but keeps timing out after about 1 hour. This maybe internet issue but can't understand why itunes cannot read my ipad. May need to completely erase all content & reset. Or any other suggestions why this has happened?

i upgrade ios 4 to ios 5.It is completed but when i try to restore all the apps back up before,at last it's written the apps cannot be found(all the apps).
The backup that itunes performs does no include any itunes content ( apps/music/vids/etc).
You should have transferred any purchases to your computer.

i updated my iphone and lost all my notes there is lots of important notes, how can i get em back especially that on itunes when i sync my iphone a note appear that there is no back up on icloud,and i cannot restore?
Without a backup on iCloud, there needs to be another device using the same @icloud address that is syncing to the notes. Without that, there is no way to go back in time to create a backup before performing a major update.

Have you gone to Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings to make sure that "Import Using" is set to "AAC Encoder"? -

I have tried all the troubleshooting tips online but my Classic ipod doesnt work. My Itunes keeps telling me that it cannot restore the ipod because the ipod is busy. What can I do?
Have you tried rebooting for the Mac and iPod to see if that helps? To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It wouldn't hurt to also try plugging the iPod into another USB port and use a different USB sync cable.

Help "Cannot Restore Backup" - Lost all my sons baby photos from birth
Hi All,
When trying to restore my iPhone I receive this message "Cannot Restore Backup" when selecting any of the three previous restore points. I had a live chat conversation with apple; they confirmed all three of my backup's are ok their end and recommended that I try the two finger reboot and reset my wifi. None of this worked so they suggested that I tried again in the Apple store using their wifi.... Again didn't work. Made a appointment with the genius bar and they tried a DFU mode reboot with no joy. Next they tried a restore using a new hand set but this also didn't work. Apple has now set a call back for 4:15 tomorrow 3/11/14.
I am now pretty concerned as iCloud has all my photos of my baby sons photo since he was born, which are priceless photos. I don't care about my app etc but I really hope that Apple have a way to supply me with my photos should all else fail. After all I'm paying monthly for a 200GB storage plan which at the moment doesn't appear to be fit for purpose.
Has anyone had any joy in resolving this issue? The member of the genius bar tried to make out that my device or wifi was the problem when backing up. I pointed out that at no point has my phone informed me that the backup failed and that the apple advisor via the live chat said my backups were fine. I said from my point of view I'm paying for a service to ensure all of my photos and videos were safely stored without fear of a home hard drive failing.

Is there a way to restore the All Contacts app on my gen 1 ipad? I seem to have lost the data and can't turn a page or add new contacts. I did try to reload the contacts (and I guess everything else) from my itunes computer backup but nothing happens to the All Contacts app. everything else seems to work fine on the ipad so I'm not sure what happened to the data or why. not sure i want to try and reset the whole ipad just for this one little app or feature...thanks in advance to any replies.
Sorry, had to sep out. I see the contacts "page" but I can't use the letters on the left margin or a finger touch to change location. Nor does anything happen when I touch the plus sign to allow me to add a new contact. So maybe he actual old contact data is still there I just can't get to it. Rick

Help: Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware
I want to recover a complete image of a Windows 7 operating system I have backed up to my other server. But I am getting the error "Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware. The System Image was created by a computer using BIOS and this computer is using EFI"
The image was definitely taken from this machine - the firmware has not changed!
What do I need to do to restore the image?
Background Story ..
I bought a new HP 255 laptop per-installed with Windows 7 without Operating Systems instal disks (I will NEVER be stupid enough to do that again!).
I took a complete image of the systems, as suggested so that I was well backed up.
However, my machine corrupted its operating systems with a few weeks. The boot recovery CD did not work (would not boot). So in desperation, and because time was short I went out and bought another, legitimate copy of Windows 7 DVD with a license key (So now I have 2, legitimate copies of the operating system!).
I installed the new copy of Windows 7 - but it was dreadful, because many drivers were missing. Mostly the missing drivers were not available on the HP support site for this machine. ALso, boot up was increadibly slow compared to the original OS installation.
So I created a new boot recovery disk from the new version of Windows, and tried to restore using that. New boot disk loads ok, I can find the old image on my network (after loading a few network drivers). But I won't instal the image - giving the above error message.
I tried deleting the EFI partition from the disk (using GPARTED to reformat that partition). That killed the Windows 7 on the machine - but still gives the same error message when I try to re-image the machine.
I have tried going into the BIOS settings .. HP 255 has a "Legacy Mode" - which I have enabled, but this makes no difference at all!
I think that the kind of solutions I am looking for might be:
1. There is a clever way of disabling EFI on my 255 so that it looks like a legacy BIOS machine, or
2. This EFI this is wired into my new boot recovery disk - and there is a way of creating a boot recovery disk that does not use EFI

I think that you are suggesting I give up on trying to recover the image I have stored on my server and just to instal Windows 7 from my new copy. There are two problems with this.
1. After having systematically downloaded all of the drivers from the HP 255 notebook support page, I am still seeing missing drivers listed. Install the AMD graphics softpaq driver first. It also contains the chipset drivers.
2. The machine is taking a hugely long time to boot up, and seems much slower with this version. Maybe that is a product of using "EFI" rather than "bios" - I don't know.
My assumption is that HP had some special set-up option with their version of Windows which makes the machine more performant. It does not seem to be a coincidence that the image they deliver the machine with is not quite compatible with a 'normal' Windows 7 instal.
So my original question stands: How do I recover the image that I saved away (as per instructed) when I first bough the machine?
You still have not said what you used to create the system image. What is the "image" file's extension?
You are mistaken in your comparison. MSDOS is an operating sytem MBR is a partitioning scheme. that is comparing apples to oranges.
The article is making an oblique reference in that using GPARTED is more or less equated to using the diskpart utility at the command line. Everything done at the comand line is essentially done by use of MSDOS commands. GPARTED does the same thing with LINUX commands via a graphical interface so you don't have to type in the commands in a Linux console.
Do you mean making a backup? a backup is not a clone which can be reproduced on different hardware. The SSD disk replacement does make the hardware differ from the original configuration.
Follow the instaructions on the following tutorial to make your disk a GPT type before installing.

Cannot restore my iPod touch 3g "Software for this iPhone is not currently"

II have a big problem, I cannot restore my iPod touch.
I cannot get anything to show on the screen, it seems stuck in DFU mode. When I connect it to my pc, iTunes show this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes".
"Check for update" is grayed. Capacity/serial/Software show N/A.
iTunes detects it as an iPhone but it's an iPod touch.
I tried 2 different computers.
I tried to download firmware and shift restore them, tried many, none work, telling it is not compatible.
When I click restore simply, it show this message "Software for this iPhone is not currently available".
I tried different ipod cable too, no luck.
The only way I can see something on the screen is with greenpoison (note that before this, I never tried nor wanted to jailbreak, but I tried a lot of things since 2 days including this, but no luck), so with green poison, I can get the iTunes + cable logo on the screen, but it won't restore either.
my iPod is just 1 year old, and 32gb, I'm rly frustrated and sad about all this :S, I tried lot of things, searched a lot, nothing work.
This happened when I came back from the gym, in my car, the iPod would not turn on, I tried again at home, and after some home/power, it turned on, I took a shower and when I came back, it was the same problem but since, it never turned on again.
Any help would be rly appreciated, thanks.If its stuck in DFU mode, just hold the Power/Sleep button and the Home button until the device resets. If your unable to access the springboard, you might need to RECOVER your iPod Touch using the Recovery method, not DFU mode.

Cannot restore settings after updating to iOS 5
I have upgraded successfully to iOS 5, well almost, because just after the upgrade finished, I wen't through the settings (language, country, WI-FI) and was then given a choice to set as a new device or restore from backup. Since my backup is on my computer I chose restore from iTunes.
But restoring fails, and this happens for both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I've been given a number of errors (-19 or -50) and sometimes it just says "iTunes cannot restore iPad because the backup session failed".
This happens on both my iPad and iPhone no matter which backup file I choose.
With the iPhone I've tried to put it in recovery mode and reset to factory settings, but I still can't restore it.
Anyone else with this problem, and does anyone know what to do?READ THIS!!!!!
For anybody having these issues here is what I did.
First of all, BACKUP your original backup, yes a backup of a backup. First of all make hidden files visible, at your explorer go to tools>folderoptions>view and show hidden files and folders. If you cant find the tools at your window press alt and a toolbar will appear. The file is located in C/users/YOURACCOUNT/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup.
Again this is just a precaution.
Now if you some sort of anitvirus program, ESPECIALLY if it is AVAST. Turn it off! For some reason it is conflicting with restoring with the backup.
Restart Itunes and plugin your iphone, it will probably still come up with the (-50) error. Ignore this! Now right click your iphone under devices at the left side of itunes. Then choose then do restore from backup and wait. Hopefully your Iphone screen will say restore in progress!
Now I just hope this helps someone as I was freaking out because I was updating my bros iphone. And he had a lot of saves and photos etc.

I upgraded. So sorry. Wiped out my tab groups etc. Cannot restore preveiosu session.
I was badgered to upgrade Firefox to the latest version. When finished it would not re-open. I had to close down all my open programs etc (really hated to do that) and re-booted the machine. Now Firefox comes up but all my tabs and tab groups are gone (I'll never get them all back) and cannot restore the previous sessions as YOU have it grayed out. Why when things are not broken does everyone insist in fixing it?? You should have at least warned me.
