Apart from many other quirks with my Shuffle, it several times has mistreated the Cartalk podcast from NPR. I transfer it (having set the flag "skip when shuffling" to off), I can see it on the Shuffle using iTunes. But when I try to play it using the Shuffle, it is just skipped. I am pretty sure it sometimes also is marked as "played" even though it has not been played any single time.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any way around it to actually use the Shuffle to listen to sound files like the Cartalk podcast, instead of as an elegant but fairly quiet collar button?
Most NPR podcasts seem to work, but the Shuffle apparently does not like the Tappet brothers.

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

If I understand correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not grouping the songs from a particular CD together. The cause could be something as minor as a misspelling or slight variations. For more information, see the following resource:

Why can't I adjust the scale of my text by clicking and dragging the corner boxes? Why I have the text selected, all it does it let me highlight it to change font, size, etc, OR all I can do is move it throughout the artboard. Why can I click and drag the corner box to adjust?

It's because you have a paragraph text box and it doesn't automatically resize text. This way you can change the margins of the text without resizing it which is how paragraph text functions by default.
I'm not seeing the new text paragraph/area indicator on your text box, which is what you get in Illustrator CC, so the only way to convert this text so you can resize it by dragging on the corners is to copy the text, deselect the text box, use the text tool to click once in another part of your document, and then paste the text. The text will then come into your document as one long line if you don't have hard returns in it, but after reflowing the text manually you'll be able to drag the corners to resize the text.
I would recommend not going this route as any text you remove from the area type means that the rest of the text has to be manually adjusted to maintain correct margins. Instead just resize the bounds of the paragraph text and adjust the size of the font in the Character panel.

I guess if stolen or lost it would protect my "stuff", and if I'm travelling would protect my privacy.
You must understand the purpose and implications of encryption before deciding whether to use it.
Encryption locks your data with a password. If you forget that password, the data is lost beyond any chance of recovery. Neither Apple nor anyone else will be able to help you recover that data if you don't know the password.
By the same token, the password must be strong enough to provide the security you want. For example, if you're the potential target of industrial espionage by a government or large corporation, you need the strongest possible password. To create and manage such a password safely is a task in itself, not to be undertaken lightly.
If you're only concerned about casual snooping by someone with no special skill, a weak, easily-remembered password is appropriate.
But regardless of the strength of the password, if you lose it, the data is gone forever.
Another point to remember is that if you encrypt your data on one storage device, you must also encrypt it on all other storage devices that would be accessible to the same attacker. Otherwise the data isn't protected. For example, if you keep your computer and your backup drive in the same room, and the internal drive of the computer is not encrypted, then there's no point in encrypting the backup drive.

I have just noticed that in both Yahoo and Gmail the drop and drag function for attachments has stopped working. Is this due to Firefox?

I am currently using Firefox 19. In the last week I have found that in both Yahoo and Gmail I am unable to attach files using drag and drop; I have not used drag and drop for a little while so I cannot say that it begun with a particular Firefox update. Unlike some users of FF16 I have no problem dragging tabs around in the browser. I know in the past certain issues with attachments have evidently been related to the browser and hence the reason I consider such a link now. I am using Windows XP SP3.

Thanks for your response, but remembering the cause of a previous attachent problem that many Firefox users were having at around the time of FF13 related to the network.http.spdy.enabled setting to 'true' I decided to check that setting again in about:config.
To fix my problem at the time I, like others, changed the SPDY setting from 'true' to 'false' and this I found had not been automatically changed with later versions of FF. I did find, however, that there were now two other SPDY settings for v2 and v3, which were set to 'true'. In case these were conflicting with the first setting on 'false' I changed this latter to 'true' also. This done I returned to Gmail and tried to attach some files, firstly in the normal way by clicking on attachments and selecting a file from the dialogue box, which worked (previously on 'true' this had not worked); secondly, I tried attaching using drag & drop, which now worked. I also found that drag & drop worked in Yahoo too.
So, could a conflict between the SPDY versions have been the cause of the problem when network.http.spdy.enabled was set to 'false'?
If the problem occurs again I will let you know. (I have attached a snapshot of the current settings.)

Clicking (and selecting) the same JList item twice

I have a JList with items (Strings) which should be added to another String when selected (clicked on). My problem is that when a user clicks twice on the same item it should be added to the result String twice. But a ListSelectionListener acts only when the value has changed, so when an other item is selected.
Does anyone know a neat (as high level as possible) solution for this?
P.S.: How do you assign duke dollars to a topic? And how do you give someone who replies those?

Thanks. I also already thought of adding a MouseListener, but I kind of wanted to avoid it. But it seems that it is necessary if I want to keep the selection.
The solution I have now, by the way, is that I set the selectedIndex back to -1 in valueChanged, so there is never any item selected.

Dynamic button change color on click and reset the unclicked buttons

I have have 3 buttons created dynamically from JSON file.
When I click on any of them the color is changed to red. (this is good).
But when I am going to click another button the previous red that I have clicked earlier doesn't change to it's grey statement, except from the last button which is the only one that works (is changing between red and grey).
If for the JSON make variable for the index e.g.(0,1,2) is working, but I want to make it work without index it. I want to make it with symbol's attr.

At stageCreationComplete I have it as a function, but it doesn't work correct.
I want to know why.
The problem is that when I use getJSON, it creates the ChildSymbols and keeps in memory only the last record (index).
So, I believe that I need to count the indexes of the JSON files and store it perhaps.

it has 3 index. And on ChildSymbol I give the attr as .attr("id", item.title);
If I make index.length it will give me 3 as number.
But if I make item.title.length it will count the letters of its Word, the result will be (7,10,5).
How Can I make it to count the word itself an give me 3 as a result?

The new design seems to be doubled, with the standart windows style underneath the new buttons and also the drop down menus are unreadable..

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When I use the drop down menu under Inspector, and set the preferences I want, a blue line shows up in the appropriate cell or cells to which I want to apply a border. When I close the menu, the blue line goes away and there is no border.

I'm sorry for the intrusion on this thread. I had only made a simple comment, and then others responded. It was not my intention, especially since the original question was marked as answered. I will direct responses to any comments I make in fture postings that deviate from the OP's question to a newly created topic if I need a response, if not, I will just add a statement at the end of my comments to please not respond.
As to your diagram, it is the ability to select the non-contiguous cells, and then be able to simulataneously select a specific part of the border edge, and then be able to change them all at once that I was after. That is something that is not possible in Numbers. It seems that in your diagram the "before", was attained by selecting each cell one at a time, and changing its border edge, one at a time. Then, in the "after", selecting the non-contiguous cells and changing the "Stroke" settings for the lines was attained simultaneously since that is possible in Numbers.
If I am correct in how you attained the results in your diagram, that wasn't really what I was trying to achieve, since if the option were not grayed out, it would only select the same border edge on all selected cells. If I am incorrect, then I would like to have your input.

Previously, after I moved an attached file to another folder, there still remain a link so that I can click and open the file; but now there is no more link.

Previously, when I got an email with an attached file, I can take out the file to different folders as I desire and then a filelink would take the place of the file in the email. In this way, when I opened email again, I can click the filelink and open the attached file in the folder to which I had moved.
Now, I find that there is no more such filelink after I take out the file. The attached file cannot be opened within the email now. Is the program changed or I miss anything?

I have the same problem as Pam101. I am on OS X 10.9 and Safari 7 (actually on 2 iMacs). The one iMac is fine but the other with the same versions and settings Adobe Reader will not work. What happens is the Adobe Reader icon appears on the dock, bounces once and that's it. When trying to open a .pdf file from a website a new tab is opened on Safari, the background is black and there is a pop up message (black test on a white background) that reads: "Adobe PDF Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement." This is all very well but if Adobe Reader will not launch how on earth is it possible to accept the End User License Agreement terms? Very, very annoying, especially since it all works just fine if I launch a .pdf file from a website using Chrome. What is going on here and who do I talk to in order to fix this problem - Apple or Adobe?
