Click boxes cease working in Cap 3 project

Both in preview and in the published file, my click boxes no
longer work. They used to, but stopped and I'm pulling my hair out
trying to get them to work again. What happens is that I click on
them, and the action that is supposed to happen does not. This is
true regardless of browser (and, as I noted, they don't work in
preview either).
I have only four that are on the last slide of my project.
Two of them are "Play Again" (supposed to jump to slide 1) and
"Close" (lets slide continue to end of project where I have project
designated to close). The other two are click boxes that are set to
"send email to".
So far I've recreated them, I've created them in another
project where they do work and imported them, and I've deleted the
slide and recreated the slide from scratch.
It seems to be something with the project that is making any
click box non-functional.
Anyone have any experience with this?

One thing you may wish to examine is in the errant project,
what is the action assigned to the Click Box object? It's possible
that something caused the action to change from what it once was to
"No Action".

Captivate 7 - Multiple Click Boxes not working

I would really appreciate some help on this. I've been reading the forums and it looks like this pops up again and again. I've tried some of the solutions, but I can't seem to make it work.
I have a slide with 8 click boxes on it. I would like for the user to click on box and then get a definition in the form of a text box. I'd like for them to be able to click on 1 box or all the boxes before they move on. I'd like for them to choose to move on with a "Continue" button that goes to the next slide.
On the preview playback, only 3 or 4 of the click boxes will work. Then, the click boxes stop working. It's not the same 3 or 4 boxes, but just the first ones that work. If I remove a pause on the continue button, it will work. Otherwise, it stops as well.
Initially, I tried to do this as a simple action. Then, I read that Advanced Actions will allow the playback to continue. The Advanced Action is 1 line that is Show and then the Text Box.
Below is my timeline. I'd appreciate help with this!

Captivate 3 - click boxes not working when published

I have a fairly large Captivate 3 file (131 MB .cp, 77 slides, most w/ audio) that I received from a vendor and am making some final edits. When I preview "next 5 slides" everything works great. When I publish though, the click boxes aren't working. I hear the click sound, but the action (continue, jump to slide, etc) does not occur. My gut feeling is that the file is fairly large and certain functions aren't being properly published. I have done all I know to reduce the size of both the .cp and published files (image quality, audio quality, deleting unused items, remove Adobe Connect features, resave w/ new name, etc).
Anyone know a potential cause and solution?

Hi there,
I have seen many instances when click boxes won't work. In this first instance I would suggest thatyou try removing the click box on one of the slides, insert a new one, publish and see if this makes any difference.
If, not then try copying all of your slides from the existing project to a new file. If one of the slides does not copy across it might be that some part of the original project has become corrupted.
In most cases I have found that removing the original interactive object: Click box, Text Entry Box etc and manually replacing this with a new one tends to address this issue.

Multiple click boxes on one slide; Pausing project

I'm using Captivate 5.5.
I have four click boxes on a slide. Three click boxes upon clicking show an image and then show a success caption. The forth click box shows a success caption but also is set to "pause project until user clicks."
Unfortunately, if any of the three click boxes are clicked it advances the playhead even though the forth click box was never clicked. How can I pause the project until only the forth click box is activated no matter if the other three click boxes have been previously clicked?

Default behavior of click boxes is to trigger the simple action that is assigned to it AND at the same time to release the play head. Even if those 3 click boxes had a pause, at the same moment as the fourth, this would have happened. If you put the pausing point of the fourth click box later than the pausing of the first three, it will work fine if the user clicks only one out of 3 click boxes.
If you replace the simple action by a (eventually one-line) advanced standard action, the play head is not released:

Text Click box not working when using back button on playbar

I have an interstesting situation.
I have a slide that has 2 text clickboxes (Slide B)
Each text click box has an advanced action associated that controls what is displayed on the next slide (Slide C) . The click boxes and the advanced actions work just fine except for the following situation:
The learner is on Slide C and uses the 'back button' on the playbar to return to the slide where the two text click boxes are (Slide B), then the click boxes don't seem to work.
However if the learner goes back one additional slide, the slide before slide B (let's call that one slide A) and the continues from Slide A to Slide B, then the click boxes on Slide B work again.
Can't figure out why that is?
has anyone come across this issue before?

Not for native Captivate interactive objects that suffer with this limitation. There are interactive widgets such as the Infosemantics Event Handler that have preference options to Reset Success/Fail Criteria After Action.

Click Box not working in Captivate 5

Why do simple things sometimes seem hard?? I have a click box created and set to "jump to slide x" when clicked. This is on a presentation imported from PP 2010 and using Captivate 5. When clicked in preview mode, the slide simply goes to the next screen rather than jumping to the one I want. I notice there is already a click box created automatically on every screen of the imported presentation. When I remove it, the presentation automatically goes to the next screen rather than waiting for the user to click to advance. I want it to advance by the user clicking the forward arrow in the player controls. If I leave it on screen, it seems to override my added click box. Here is what my click box settings are:

Ah ha! Yes, I do have a quiz. 17 scored questions scattered throughout the course. Do I need to move the "jump to" slide before the last question then (or somewhere else as long as it's before the last question)?

How can i get a right-click click box to work?

I am using Captivate 7 and to accurately mimic the software I have inserted multiple right-click click boxes but without success. After reading previous posts, I have tried the following:
- publishing to SWF and HTML5
- publishing to the default folder and launching the HTML from there (i can see .css and .js files in the folder as well)
- unchecking "Enable Accessibility" in Publish Settings
I'm very new to Captivate so any help or advice you can give on this would be great.

Not having the publish folder location set up as a trusted location can also cause right click to fail.

Click boxes and buttons not working in Captivate 3 published projects

I really, really, hope that someone can help me...
we are migrating from Centra/Saba LMS to Connect Pro LMS and while taking our "old" SCORM projects and posting them to the Connect Pro server we have encountered an issue...and the reason it's very hard to trouble shoot is that it's not all of the projects....??
Once a project is pulished none of the buttons or click boxes are working - for instance we use a play button on the frist slide for students to enter the course - you click it nothing happens (except when you mouse over the button it does change color)...same with the click boxes - I can use the progress bar to move froward but anything I click just doesn't respond...
Has anyone encountered this? and I hope know something we can do?

Do your published projects work outside of your LMS?
Or is it just inside the new LMS that it isn't working?
Usually buttons and click boxes not working is because your slides are pausing before the button becomes active.
What version of Captivate and Flash are you using?

Project locks up when user double clicks click box

I have a series of practice questions in my Captivate 5 projects that use click boxes to select the question's answers. The project pauses at the click boxes (which all appear at the same time), and a feedback caption appears. A second later, a continue button appears. The project again pauses until the user clicks the continue button. Then the project goes to the next slide. My problem is that when the user double clicks a click box, or clicks it right when it appears (the cursor changes from arrow to a hand), the continue button does not appear.
I am just considering deleting the continue button but my intent there was to allow as much time as the user needed to read the feedback captions after clicking the click box. Any help on this is appreciated.

Actually, I was more wondering what kind of code I
need to add to my program to make it possible at all.
My file input and output is all done from a Utilites
class which I made but quite obviously any OS will
not know to call Utiities.load(...arguments...).
But, my goal is to have my program work as seamlessly
as possible with a normal person's desktop.I'm sorry, you're right, I completely misread your post. I would definitely take the tactic of writing a .reg file and executing it. That seems to be the accepted way of creating registry entries on Java if you have to do such a thing.
Here is a link to the type of .reg file you're going to need to associate a file with a certain program, and you'll need to modify it slightly to do a 'java -jar myJar' type of thing. Then, just point Runtime.getRuntime().exec() at it, and you should be good to go.
The only thing I'd be worried about is how to find the JAVA_HOME. If you launched your installer via WebStart (or had the user double-click the jar for the first time), though, you could just use
System.getProperty("java.home");

Click Boxes are not working

I'm currently working on a course that contains a main menu screen that then branches off to several course modules. On the main menu I have placed several click boxes that jump to the slides within the course. Of the 5 click boxes that I have placed on the main menu, 2 are not working although they are set exactly like the other three with the exception of the slide that they are jumping to.
The click box setting are as follows:
Jump to slide (set to the slide that contains desired content)
Appear as of 0 seconds
remain for rest of slide
Infinate attempts
Show hand over hit area
Pause project until user clicks.
I have tried to delete the offending click boxes and rebuild. Copy a click box that functions and simply change the jump to slide number. Rebuild the entire slide (resulting in the same situation of the 3 click boxes that worked continuing to work and the 2 that didn't, not working.) I have built several main menu screens in the sam manner in several courses with out any problems. Please help me to understand what could possibly be the issue.

Do you have a quiz in the project? If so, you could have your quiz settings configured so that questions MUST be answered before you may continue.
For example, perhaps you have a 40 slide project. You have some buttons on slide five. Button one jumps to slide six. No problem. Button two jumps to slide 20. No problem. But Button three tries to jump to slide 30. And on slide 28 you are asking a True/False question. Your quiz settings may declare that the question on slide 28 MUST be answered before you may continue. In that case the button would appear to fail and not jump to slide 30 because the question on slide 28 hasn't been answered.

Only part of my click box works

I've created a file using Captivate 3. This file contains a
number of click boxes. Most of them work just fine. However, on one
slide I have a click box, and only part of it works. When I publish
the file, my cursor turns to a hand when I mouse over the click
box. However, I can only click on about half of the area that is
supposed to be a click box.
I've tried:
-Deleting and recreating the click box.
-Copying and pasting a click box that works onto the slide
that doesn't work
-Deleting the slide and recreating the slide.
However, none of these things seem to be working. Has anyone
else experienced this? Any work arounds?

I tried recreating your issue even with multiple clickboxes
at various points on the timeline, and I cannot recreate it. Even
if the 1st clickbox is the dead last layer with many objects above
it, I can still get a hand and click all of it.
The only thing I can think of is if you have imported a .swf
that may have some script that is interfering, but you do not
mention that you have done so.
As a really goofy work-around, perhaps double the size of the
clickbox to see if "half" of it will land it in your target
range.

Adobe Captivate 4 - CLICK BOX

Hi all,
I used to work on Captivate 3 but I passed to Captivate 4.
The problem is that now using the new Cap.4, when I assign a link
to a CLICK BOX (To open a another project) and press OK the link
seems fine but when close and come back to the slide I find that
the software had changed my link to another one. I rebooted the
software but the problem is persisting. Did any of you already have
this problem??
What should I do?

Hi there
When you use "Open URL or File", you specify just that. The
URL to a page. Perhaps
http://www.Google.com. Or a file
name as in SomeFile.htm or SomeFile.PDF or SomeFile.DOC.
When you use "Open other project" you generally browse to and
select the Captivate Project File (.CP) and Captivate sorts the
output type on its own. The big issue with Captivate 4 is that we
used to tell folks (in Captivate 3) to use this option and simply
ensure all the output files are in the same folder so that they may
find one another. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. For
example, if I place my project in C:\Projects\BoffoProject and use
Open Other Project, Captivate 4 now will expect to find the file it
is linking to in the same folder path on whatever PC it is copied
to. That's an unfortunate thing as you now will have to ensure you
specifically create that path to make things work.

Problem opening urls from click box

Hi
I'm having trouble launching a file from a click box. I enter
the url and de-select contine running project. I test the link in
Preview and it works fine. However when I publish the file the
click box doesnt work. I click it a few times and eventually all
that happens is the next slide appears. Something that shouldnt
happen at all.
I've tried using buttons instead, again it works in preview
but not when I publish the course. I have also tried selecting and
de-selecting the continue running project box.
Anyone had a similar problem? Know of a solution?

Often we see issues when attempting to run the project from
your local PC. Could be Flash Security settings. If that's the
case, see if the tutorial linked below helps.

Note that this only affects playback on the local PC. If you
are planning on copying the files to a web server and your users
will be running from there, you don't have much to be concerned
with. If your intent is for each user to copy the files to their
local C: drive and run from there, you then have concerns. But
there are workarounds if this is the case.

How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate?

Hi all,
    How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate ?
    i.e., It can support click, double click, and right click, can it support "CTRL/SHIFT/ALT" when clicking?
    I need this feature because some user operation requires this.
    We're using Captivate 5.
    Could anybody give me some suggestion? Tahnks.

Although you can add Ctrl, Alt and Shift shortcuts to click boxes, they may or may not work, depending on the context where the presentation is running.
The following comments relate to Captivate 5 presentations.
If you publish the presentation as an exe file, Shift and Ctrl click boxes will work, but not Alt click boxes. Right-clicks won't be detected, either.
If you publish as htm + swf for viewing in a browser, you can avoid the right-click problem, but which shortcuts get detected depends on which browser is being used.
I have tested Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari, with the following results:
Alt: No browser passes Alt shortcuts through to the Flash player. If the Alt shortcut is meaningful to the browser itself, that's what happens (e.g., Alt+T will display the Tools menu in Internet Explorer; otherwise nothing happens). Note: Alt click boxes work when you test the presentation in an F8 preview window, but they don't work when the presentation has been published, so the F8 preview is misleading.
Ctrl: All except Internet Explorer pass all Ctrl shortcuts to the Flash Player, so they are generally safe to use if you can ensure the user will not view the presentation in IE. IE keeps most Ctrl shortcuts for itself, but there are a few (e.g., Ctrl+G) that IE passes to Flash, so you can use Ctrl+G freely, knowing it will work in every browser. Ctrl+M and Ctrl+U are two others
Shift: All, including Internet Explorer pass Shift shortcuts to the Flash Player. I have sometimes therefore set up a simulation with click boxes that look for a Shift+ shortcut key instead of Alt+, and included an apologetic prompt to tell the user to do so.
It's a mess! It is essential to test your simulation in whatever environments it will be used in, and adapt it if some shortcut you really want to use doesn't work.

My preview box wont isn't working, and my project won't open

Not only does the video not play back in the preview box (but it will play back in full screen), but I have a project that wont open at all. Its a seven minute video so far and it suddenly wont let me view it. Its still listed under Project Library but I cant access it. This happened after my iMovie froze while I was playing the project back.
My system preferences are updated, and I read and followed someones elses directions to delete both "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist" and "com.apple.iApps.plist" but that didnt do anything. This is all on my desktop so I cant take the whole thing into apple! Lol. Please any suggestions would help. I put so much time into it I would hate to have to start all over again! Especially with no preview box working :/
This is my first time using iMovie and the computer is only 6 months old.

Ok figured out that my project was corrupt (idk how) and when I removed it out of iMovie projects folder than the preview box started working again... How confusing.
