Click boxes

Created a short tutorial using three buttons (click
boxes) Next, (jump to next slide) Back (Jump to previous slide) and
Show me (continue). Moveing forward in the tutorial they all work
fine. Next and Back always work in either direction. The problem is
when the user clicks the "Back" button and then uses the "show me"
button. Nothing happens.
I'm sure that I'm not the first one to have this problem. Any
ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
The buttons are images with click boxes on them.
I dont' have the "playback control" displayed during the
movie.
Thanks, Wende

Hi Wende, and welcome to the Captivate User Community!
In general, Captivate's interactive elements such as
click-boxes, buttons, and text-entry boxes, are designed to be
linear (forward). Still, I really don't see why you should be
having this problem.
In fact, if those buttons are the only interactivity on the
slides, when you click the "Back" button, your movie should go to
the preceding slide ... but then it should
immediately begin to play from the beginning of that slide
until it hits the point on the timeline where the click-box(es)
once again stop it ... and at that point, the "continue" action
should once again work to move forward.
Double check the attributes of the click-boxes (let's don't
call them buttons, since Captivate has its own "buttons" which are
similar to but not the same as click-boxes). Be sure that the
click-box configuration on the "previous" (or "Back") slide is not
conflicting with another click-box on the same slide.
Let us know what you find. If necessary, I can take a look at
the source in your CP (project) file, and advise you better after
looking at the real thing. You might find out if there is any
company policy or rule that would prevent that - if it is necessary
or desirable.

  • Text Click box not working when using back button on playbar

    I have an interstesting situation.
I have a slide that has 2 text clickboxes (Slide B)
Each text click box has an advanced action associated that controls what is displayed on the next slide (Slide C) . The click boxes and the advanced actions work just fine except for the following situation:
The learner is on Slide C and uses the 'back button' on the playbar to return to the slide where the two text click boxes are (Slide B), then the click boxes don't seem to work.
However if the learner goes back one additional slide, the slide before slide B (let's call that one slide A) and the continues from Slide A to Slide B, then the click boxes on Slide B work again.
Can't figure out why that is?
has anyone come across this issue before?

Not for native Captivate interactive objects that suffer with this limitation.  There are interactive widgets such as the Infosemantics Event Handler that have preference options to Reset Success/Fail Criteria After Action.
You could download a trial version and give that a go:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/download-free-trial-widgets
You can attach this widget to any kind of screen object to make that object interactive.

  • Click box - advanced actions - dims images

If I have a text box, by using advanced action on slide I hide it, then on a click box I want it to show - when the hidden text box reveals itself, the image dims.  Why is that?  What do I have set incorrectly?
thank you to anyone who can help!

    Hello again
Indeed I thought I had explained that.
Each object such as an Image, Caption or whatever is generally equipped with a Fade In and Fade Out transition effect. These effects are typically half a second long. So if you pause the slide very near the end of the object display time, the pause is occurring as the transition is fading the object out of view. Thus the "dimming" occurs.
If you configure the object so no fade out occurs on the transition (Fade In only) then it doesn't matter if you pause near the end because it doesn't fade out of view. Likewise, if you adjust the timing so the Click Box pauses the slide before the transition begins to occur, the dimming won't happen either.

  • Captivate 7 Click box and bottons not able to open an URL on a new window

I inserted a button and a click box in CP7 to open an URL on a new window. The URL opens but in a New Tab. There is an issue that the URL cannot be opened on a NEW WINDOW, I am using IE and Chrome. Do you have any ideas about this issue and how to troubleshoot it? I tried with Safari and it works fine.
Thanks, Jorge - Adobe Captivate 7 user.

    Hi Jorge
It's my understanding that all you can do is to configure the link to open in a new "whatever". Whether you get the link opening in a tab or a window is left up to the browser and how the particular user has their browser configured. For example, I use Firefox and when I look at its settings here is what I see.
I'm guessing there must be a way to force a new window, because I do see new windows appear. But I think in those cases folks are doing it by using JavaScript.

  • Multiple click boxes in the same page

I'm trying to include 4 click boxes in the same page in Captivate 5. The idea is when user clicks on each box, the content reveals and stays on the screen. The first click box works fine. But when click the second box, the content shows only for less than a second and then quickly moves to the next screen, and of course, there is no chance to even get to the 3rd and the 4th one. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

    Hi Lilybiri,
Does this mean that the user has to click the click boxes in the order that you stagger the pauses? For example, if I'm showing a picture and instructing the user to click on any area to get more information, they could really click on any area first - however will that click box pop up if that click area was not the "first" pause in my timeline?
Also, how do I get the "success" caption text to stay on the page? I don't want it to fade so that the user can see all of the info. once they've clicked each box. I've checked to make sure that the "fade out" option is off, and I'm assuming I can't have the click boxes "display for the rest of the slide" since that would ruin the pause increments.
    Thanks!

  • Click Box not working in Captivate 5

Why do simple things sometimes seem hard??  I have a click box created and set to "jump to slide x" when clicked.  This is on a presentation imported from PP 2010 and using Captivate 5.  When clicked in preview mode, the slide simply goes to the next screen rather than jumping to the one I want.  I notice there is already a click box created automatically on every screen of the imported presentation.  When I remove it, the presentation automatically goes to the next screen rather than waiting for the user to click to advance.  I want it to advance by the user clicking the forward arrow in the player controls.  If I leave it on screen, it seems to override my added click box.  Here is what my click box settings are:
Here is what the click box looks like on the screen.  You can see that I resized (moved out of the way) the large click box automatically created by Captivate:
This is using XP for a course that will be published in SCORM.  As always, many thanks for helping!
    Lisa

Ah ha!  Yes, I do have a quiz.  17 scored questions scattered throughout the course.  Do I need to move the "jump to" slide before the last question then (or somewhere else as long as it's before the last question)?
    Thanks!

  • How can I display the failure caption with click box when using function keys to navigate a sim?

I am using the keyboard function keys to navigate a simulation using Click Boxes. For instance, F7 advances the simulation to the next screen, but if the learner selects F5, a failure caption displays. I have tried deleting and re-entering the click box, placing the click box at the top of the timeline levels, starting the click box at 0 and 0.5, making the click box visible and invisible, and make the click box the entire size of the screen.

Well, I guess that's that. Thanks for replying, I do appreciate it or else I would have been trying for days, wasting all sorts of time.
    Until we meet again,

  • Any way to disable quiz click boxes from a parent SWF?

We've got a parent SWF that serves as a navigational shell, allowing users to move between different Captivate slides which are essentially embedded SWFs. Some of these SWFs are Captivate hot spot quizzes. We've run into a fairly significant issue - when a Captivate slide has a click box, it sets up an event listener for that box. Unfortunately, when a user moves off of that SWF, the event listener is still in place (note: we're not actually unloading the SWF, we're simply hiding it and showing the next SWF). Once a user clicks into the new SWF, the following exception gets thrown:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/CheckSpriteClick()
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/CheckAllClicksDown()
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/onMousePress()
We've narrowed this down to the click boxes and the event listeners associated with them. I need to know if there's some way that our parent SWF can call into the Captivate quiz SWF in order to disable those click boxes once the user moves off of the SWF. I know that we can disable them from within the quiz itself using an advanced action, but I'm just not sure if the same can be done from an external SWF (ideally, we would just call an advanced action from the parent SWF - I have no idea if this is possible).
Any help would be much appreciated.
    - Terence

First question, why are you simply hiding and not unloading them?
If you can hide, I am assuming through a visible false or alpha = 0; then it seems like you would have the ability to relocate them as well, and since the loaded swf is housing its own buttons and hit areas they would move with their parent...
So a cheap fix if you can access the objects would be to move them out of view, like to
    .x = -5000
    .y = -5000
That might work...and might be the easiest way to "Re-add them to the stage without losing info, I am assuming the hide and not unload is for keeping score or something?
You could then move them back to 0,0 if you needed them again...
    might help you

  • How can I get a click box to interact with a text entry box on the same page?

I'm creating a tutorial on using a specific system and trying to recreate what the end user would actual do in the system.  On one slide, the end user must enter text into a field, then press a button (click box) to advance to the next slide.  I want to be able to have the click box validate if the text entry is correct before advancing to the next slide.  Is there a way to get the click box to validate the text entry?  Not sure how to get the two objects to "talk" to each other rather than function independently.
Literally, I want the end user to enter the data in the text entry box, then click on the Get button.  I need the Get button (click box) to both validate that the data entered in the text entry box is correct and, if it is, advance to the next slide.  If the data is incorrect, I need the Get button (click box) to show the failure caption and have the end user re-enter the data correctly.
How do I get the objects to work together?

    Hi there
You need to delete the Click Box. Yes, you heard me. Delete the puppy.
I  know it sounds weird. But bear with me. After you delete it, double-click the Text Entry Box. Then click the Options tab. See that option called Show Button? Click it and click OK to dismiss the TEB properties.
Now you have the button you want. If you don't want a button, double-click it and set it as transparent. Remove the text. Position as desired where the Click Box was before.

  • Button/click box click more than once

Hi, I'm hoping you guys can point out what I'm doing wrong...
I have an image where the user can click on certain parts of
it to display a callout. However, I want them to be able to click
on the area of the image more than once if requried. I suppose you
can say it's a bit like an image map.
First I used click boxes to achieve this, then I tried using
transparent buttons. However for both of these methods you can only
click on each part once during playback. Clicking again does not
    show the callout.
I thought about copying the contents to another slide and add
a 'Reset' button the user could click on. This would move to the
other slide, but this seems a bit on the 'clunky' side, so I
thought there must be a setting or something really obvious that I
have missed. I was unable to find the relevant informaiton in the
help file or elsewhere in the forum, so if it does exist I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
How can I allow the user to click on parts of the image more
than once to show the callout?
    Thanks for your help,
    Liz

    Thanks for your reply Rick.
I started the activity using rollovers, but I wanted the user
to do something more definite than just hovering over each part of
the image. So essentially, I want the rollover functionality but
with the ability to click instead of just hovering the cursor over.
I thought this would be easy!
I've tried using both buttons and click boxes without any
success. I ventured a little into slidelets, but I want the callout
to appear in a very specific place and this did not appear to
satisfy my requirements. The 'click to stick' sounds intriguing so
I'll take a look into this, but I'm not convinced it's what I want.
Any more suggestions are most welcome.
    Regards
    Liz

  • Navigation: stop automatic slide advancement with multiple click boxes

5.0 newbie question.  I  know I have a lot to learn about navigation before I develop another CBT, but I have done a beta test and found a situation I hadn't encountered before, so I am looking for help to get me past this with a band-aid until I can do this the right way later. I have read many issues about navigation and don't seem to see exactly what my issue is.
I am using the playbar for limited user self navigation, so all my slides have click boxes with "pause until the user clicks" properties.  On some of my slides though, I have created pseudo-button like things via click boxes that popup email or browser windows (via Open URL).  When I was testing these out, they worked as I hoped: opened the external window, but did NOT advance the slide. But I have come to realize that in my testing, I was always clicking on those buttons before the audio had completed and my testers are clicking on them AFTER the audio is complete.  The behavior in the latter case causes the slide to advance (as well as correctly popup the external window).  I don't want it to advance when the user selects that particular click box and they are not REQUIRED to click on that box, it is optional.  It doesn't seem to matter how I set the properties, I get the same behavior.  Suggestions O wise Captivate gurus??  ;^)
    TIA

  • How can i get a right-click click box to work?

I am using Captivate 7 and to accurately mimic the software I have inserted multiple right-click click boxes but without success. After reading previous posts, I have tried the following:
    - publishing to SWF and HTML5
    - publishing to the default folder and launching the HTML from there (i can see .css and .js files in the folder as well)
    - unchecking "Enable Accessibility" in Publish Settings
I'm very new to Captivate so any help or advice you can give on this would be great.

  • Single click in a double click box

    Captivate 3.
I have two click boxes; one set for a single click and the
other for a double click. Both have failure captions. When I single
click in the box set for a double click, nothing happens. It
appears to be ignored. I would like the failure caption for the
double click box to display if the user clicks only once inside the
    box. Is this possible?

Hi jimclennon and welcome to our community
I doubt you will be able to accomplish this easily. Failure
captions normally appear when you define a click box area and click
outside the area. As you are clicking
inside a click box area, but only clicking once, Captivate
probably isn't sensing a wrong action is occurring.
This is something you may wish to submit as a feature request
for a future version. To do that,

  • Is there a way to import a Power Point presentation without adding click boxes?

I want the user to navigate through the Power Point portion of my training by hitting one of two buttons.  Unfortunatley, in order for me to restrict the users options to these possibilities, I have to delete every click box from the slide that is added to the power point slides when I import them.  The only other option (as far as I know) is to make it so they advance automatically (without clicking) when I import the slides, and I don't want that either.
If someone can help me out, that would be great!
    Thank you!
    Ryan

Why not import with the option 'advance automatically' and add the buttons in Captivate? Are you talking about navigational buttons (Next, Previous)? If you are using Captivate 6 you can use a Shape button for that purpose, add it on Master slides or time them for the rest of the project if you want to have them on each slide:

  • Can't get tab to work after a click box

I have no problem getting the tab to work after a text entry but when I insert a click box and tab the tab feature isn't working.  I do have tab set as short cut in Actions on properties of click box.

Captivate 7 allows you to configure the tab order for all interactive objects on a slide.
Select the slide and look for the Tab Order button at the top of the Properties tab.
