  • Cursor keeps drawing boxes, can't click on desktop icons

    I can't move the cursor without it drawing a box and I'm unable to open desktop icons. I've employed force quit to close out all running applications however, this leaves me with the force quit application dialogue box stuck open and unable to click on anything else. Shutting down or restarting has had no effect. I did manage to confirm that the battery status is now at change soon. Is this the source of the problem ?

    I had a similar problem where it seemed that the right click was engaged and it kept highlighting everything.  The battery casing was bowed and loose but I never thought that was a problem until I asked someone at the Apple Store.  She recommended taking the battery out completly and running on AC power until I could afford to get a new battery.  (I am using mine as a desktop cause the screen went out 3 years ago and I can't afford to get a new one.)  Solved the problem immediately and I have not had an issue since.  I hope this helps, it is worth a try.  It got to the point with mine that I was forced to turn off the computer at the power button without properly shutting it down.  It was basically unusable and I need my computer for school.  This definately solved the problem.  Good Luck.

  • .msi runs everytime user clicks the desktop icon

    We have been working on creating bundles to deploy small apps to our end users. We are on Zen 10.2.2, and have about 1500 users. I have been building apps in Adminstudio, and they deploy correctly. On some users PCs though, when they double click on the desktop icon that is created after the deploy, the .msi progress bar runs across the screen very quickly and then the application opens just fine. Is this normal? It only seems to happen after a restart or logout. If they close the app and reopen it, there is no progress bar. I'm new to creating bundles, so please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you.

    Is their Windows Profile Being Recreated Each Time?
    Put some junk on the desktop and verify the profile is not being reset
    for some reason.

  • Click on Finder icon, bring up FINDER

    Hello,
    My fiancee just got her first Mac. But for some reason, when she clicks on the "finder" icon in the dock, it does not bring up the finder window. It just takes her to the desktop. Any idea how to change this setting?
    Thanks!
    -Dustin

    Hmm. What exactly do you mean by "takes her to the desktop"? Does it hide all other programs? Does it open a Finder window displaying the items on the Desktop?

  • Help! I can't change my background or click on desktop icons!

    I have a MacBook I just got a few weeks ago. It's been fine until now. I just closed it twenty minutes ago after I left my dad's house and it was fine. I opened it up when I got back home and my desktop background was plain blue.
    I tried to change it through system preferences but, even though I can click on the pictures the background doesn't change.
    I then tried to get to disk utility but when I clicked on the Mac HD icon on my desktop, it wouldn't open. My clicking didn't even highlight it.
    I can still get to my files using the Finder. However, I can only access the finder by clicking on the dock. Clicking on the background does nothing. I can still move my mouse.
    But that's it. It's as if the MacBook doesn't even register my mouse clicks at all.

    It had very little battery life left when it changed,
    although it was plugged in. Could that have had
    something to do with it?
    Probably not..although I guess anything is possible...

  • Getting lags and unable to click on desktop icons

    Having some trouble with my imac g4. I cannot click on any of the icons on the desktop. I can click on the toolbar icons.
    Also am having some lagging where the drive was making noises like chuchuchuchu and repeating. While this is going on, I get the spinning working cursor and it goes on for sometimes over five minutes. I restarted and got the same problems during restart. Took forever to restart and it didn't solve the problem. The probelm is especially prevelent when on the internet (cable modem firewire through linksys) with hotmail and ebay.
    Any ideas what i could do?

    Hello Sunnyhood and welcome to discussions,
    There is an issue in 10.2.x where sometimes restarting several times cures the first problem you are experiencing.
    The hard drive noises are worrying to say the least - Back up the data as soon as you possibly can.
    How much free space is left on that drive please?
    Click once on the hard drive icon, then hold down the  key and then hit i

  • When I double-click the desktop icon I get an error message: XUL RUNNER error: Platform version '2.0.1' is not compatible with minVersion =5.0 maxVersion =5.0. I must right click the icon and choose 'RUN OUTSIDE THE SANDBOX' to open the browser.

    This problem occurred shortly after updating to Firefox 5.0 I kept getting reminders to update to 5.0 When I finally decided to update, the first 4 or 5 attempts failed for one reason or another always with a different error message At some point after and extended shutdown of the computer 5.0 was initiated.

    The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.
    You need to do a clean reinstall.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • When I click the desktop icon to open Firefox, it takes a long time to open so I end up re-clicking and then end up with 2 or 3 pages open. Why? I have Windows XP and this long delay existed with the previous version of Firefox and now with the FF

    There has been a security update of the Flash Player and the current version is 10.1 r85 , so you are two versions behind (previous was 10.1 r82).

  • After Sleep clicking on desktop icons does not open Finder window

    The Subject line says it all. This problem has occurred 3 or 4 times since installing Leopard and does not occur after every sleep. The Finder window can still be opened from the Finder toolbar. The problem can recover after another sleep.

    Apple support is wonderful!  The fix took a while but I was able to boot up with Shift key and make changes as directed that restored my auto logon.  Downloading Lion update now which is supposed to fix the Keychain problem.  If anyone else has this problem - here is the Case # for reference -

    Windows 7 64 bit

    Reset the SMC and PRAM, I'd recommend doing each reset 2X. Post back if the issue continues.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
    Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    When i double click the desktop icon Firefox to open it, nothing happens. I have to install the program from the setup file again. This happens everyday, it used to only happen maybe once every 2-3 months, now it's all the time. Any advice?

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • When I click the MFF desktop icon Firefox takes exactly 30 seconds to load, is that right?

    ''Duplicate post, continue here -'' [/questions/752057]
    I have just installed Firefox and it takes 30s from clicking the desktop icon to loading the home page. Tabs only take about 2s, is this right?
    IE loads in 2-3 s.

    The answers you have got above are correct.
    However, if your FF otherwise feels snappy when browsing - and a second restart (aka. warm start) of FF is much faster than the first - then you could try my suggestions here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/762446#answer-119951
    The slow load time on a cold start is an old "classic" problem for FF.
    Mozilla may work on a solution or not, but meanwhile I'm happy with this work around.

  • Click Desktop icon event handler

    Is there any way to handle a user clicking the desktop icon? What I need to do is when the user clicks the desktop icon and if the app is already running (by means of icon in the system tray) then pop up the application and not start a new instance.
    thanks
    -Mike

    Figured this out ....you need to handle the NativeApplication Invoke Event...
    public  function onApplicationComplete(event:Event):void
               //if user starts a second instance of THIS APP we want to handle the event:      NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(InvokeEvent.INVOKE, OnNativeAppInvoke);
    public  function OnNativeAppInvoke(evt:Event):void{
       //I popup my app here
        undock(evt);
    public
    function undock(evt:Event):void {
          //After setting the window to visible, make sure that the application is ordered to the front, //else we'll still need to click on the       application on the  askbar to make it visible      stage.nativeWindow.visible =
    true;     stage.nativeWindow.orderToFront();
    If anyone finds answers to their own questions please post them as it helps everyone out.....Thanks!
