Click to set rotation point: Disappeared?

Hi All,
In CS4, I used to be able to click inside an image, hit R for rotate, then I could click on any area of the image and the rotation crosshairs would jump to that point. Now in CS5 that functionality seems to be missing. I have to drag the (annoyingly snapping) rotation point to where I need the rotation to pivot from.
Does anybody know if this is a feature that you can reactivate or is it gone for good? Sounds like a small thing, but I really hope they bring it back in an  update, as I used it a lot and found it extremely useful. I never  thought they'd delete features in an update (if indeed they have).
Tim

Yeap! I do confess. It was me. But I have approached it marketing style:
Easy way  to crash InDesign CS5 on demand
so they had to react.

  • Set Rotate Point for an Action

    Hi all,
I'm trying to set an object action to rotate on a presentation that I'm putting together, however I don't want it to rotate about its centre but rather one of the points. I don't see how I can do that. Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Brian

Brute force (unless someone comes along with a more elegant solution)...
    • Select, and duplicate the object to be rotated.
    • From the Arrange menu, flip the duplicate copy vertically, then horizontally.
    • While still selected, move the copy so that its intended rotation point is on top of the intended rotation point of the original object.
    • With the Graphics Inspector, adjust the duplicate's opacity to zero.
    • Shift-click on the original object to add it to the selection.
    • Choose "group" from the Arrange menu.
    • Finally, apply the intended rotation to the grouped object.

  • Why is the rotate point moving when using Transform Again on a triangle?

I am trying to create a pattern that I have created in previous itterations of Illustrator. In CC when I create a triangle (either via Star, Poly, or Pen tool) and then try to rotate it via Transform Each > Transform again, the rotation point moves according to what the bounding box would be if I reset it, rather than staying in one (original) spot relative to the actual bounding box and triangle. I cannot find any settings that would be affecting the rotate point in this way. I am pretty confident that I am using the same procedure now that I did in older versions of Illustrator. Perhaps I am using the wrong procedure.
Naturally, if you are rotating something around its center you should expect that it would end up create a circular pattern. It is more of a square with concave sides. The red is a perfect circle that I grouped to the triangle to demonstrate the rotate points movement. It is located in the exact center according to the align tools.

With the rotate tool, option click to set you point of rotation.
You also may want to look into the transform effect, theres is a box with 9 points for your anchor points you can try. You can also add an object filled with none, group this with your object, and transform the group, to get offset results with the transform effect.

  • Can I change the Set-In point to an earlier time on a clip in the timeline?

After a clip is added to the timeline from the source window, can the starting point of the clip in the timeline be changed to an earlier time than what's in the clip in the timeline?
Or do I have to use the source window to re-import the clip back into the timeline, after selecting an earlier time for the clip to start?
I'm running CS 5.0.3 on Win7, no special HW or addons.
Sorry for the newbie question; if there's a better forum to ask this in, please provide a reference. I'm reading the AGI Digital Classroom Premiere Pro CS5 textbook, and I'm not seeing a way to do this from the timeline. I'm not finding answers to this in the FAQ or in other online videos.

    Thanks for the quick response!
I like the 3rd suggestion the best, but it doesn't seem to work.
Here's what I'm trying to do:
The sequence in the timeline has: clip A clip B clip C. I don't want to change anything in clip B or clip C, I just want to add an extra second of footage to the beginning of clip A to the sequence in the timeline.
Let's say the original video file for A is 10 seconds long, and clip A that was added to the timeline started at time=4 and was duration 3 seconds, in the original video file for A.
Now I want to change the starting time of clip A from t=4 seconds to t=3 seconds, so that the new clip A will have a duration of 4 seconds.
What I'd like to be able to do is:
    - double click on clip A to send to to the source window (works fine)
    - change the In Point from t=4:00 to t=3.00
If I change this in the source window, then click the "Set In Point" button, nothing happens.

  • Flash 8 registration and rotation point ?

Is it a bug or some changes in my settings ?
I don't know why on my Flash 8 when I put the registration
    point of a
MovieClip on the upper left corner, the rotation point stays
    in the
middle, but.... (and that's the strange ennoying part)
When I try to put the Clip on the scene at a position f.i:
    100,100 it is
the *center point* and not the upper left registration point
    that takes
    the position.
Is there a way to correct this and to return to my previous
    settings,
where the registration point was The REference.
    Tks
    Henri Schongut

Never mind. I think I figured it out; create the object on the stage, edit the registration and pivot points in the symbol in the library, return to stage, right click symbol and 'set transformation point.' I might be able to set that last action as a hot key.
Thanks for all your help. You should write the manuals.

  • Undo bug, mouse pointer disappears?

Is just me or everyone has that annoying "undo" bug?
That's what happens: when I press UNDO speedgrade starts to behave strangely.
    - If I press undo after clicking right mouse button (and I'm moving a color wheel with mouse) comes out a message "optimizing timeline" and timeline thumbnails are shown under the timeline. Sometimes there is a worst scenario: mouse pointer disappears and I have to quit SG and reopen to get my pointer back.
    - Pressing ctrl-z without right mouse button clicked (outside wheel edit mode, or whatever it is called..) sometimes works, sometimes appears the annoying progress bar "optimizing timeline" and several steps of undo are taken, even if I pressed cmd+z just one time.
I use undo A LOT, and now I'm not confident using it because of this strange behavior (I'm on osx).
Are you experiencing the same problems?

You won't believe this but just cleaning a mouse can improve performance... read the following:
How to Clean a Mechanical Mouse
This article explains when and how you should clean a mechanical mouse. It does not apply to the the Apple Pro Mouse.
You should clean a mouse if it is does not track smoothly, or if it jumps or skips. A mouse contains a small ball that must roll smoothly for the mouse to work properly. You should keep this ball free of dirt and oil by using the mouse on a clean, lint-free surface, and cleaning it occasionally.
Use the following procedure to clean a mouse:
    1. Turn off your computer.
    2. Turn the mouse upside down and rotate the plastic ring on the bottom counterclockwise to release it.
    3. Turn the mouse right side up with one hand and catch the ring and ball with your other hand.
    4. Clean the three small rollers inside the mouse with a cotton swab moistened with water. Rotate the rollers to clean all around them. If there is a build-up of material on the rollers that the cotton swab does not remove, you can use your fingernail to gently remove the material.
    5. Wash the mouse ball in soapy, warm water with a mild soap such as a dishwashing liquid if oil from your hands has collected on it. Be sure to dry the mouse ball thoroughly.
    6. Gently blow into the mouse case to remove any accumulated dust.
    7. Put the mouse ball back in the mouse case and replace the retaining ring.
If cleaning the mouse as described does not correct your issue, the mouse may need to be replaced. Have an Apple Authorized Service Provider check it for excessive wear or other failure.
If that doesn't do the trick, if this is a mouse that required 3rd party drivers, you might try reinstalling the drivers. Also, try going back to default Mouse preferences on all Users, see if makes a difference.

  • Mouse pointer disappears and makes strange movements

First: I'm afraid my English is not good enough (I speak Spanish).
    So,
Sometimes the mouse pointer disappears but it's still able to click. It reappears when I do right click. Also, sometimes the pointer have a strange behavior, like crazy movements very fast. I just wait 10 second and it work fine again. I don't know if anyone here have this problems too.

  • In/Out points disappearing...?

This started happening all of a sudden... I'll set an In point on the timeline. Then when I drag a clip from the browser onto the timeline, no matter where I put the clip on the timeline the in point disappears. Like it was never there. Anybody else seen this? i'm wondering if I somehow accidentally hit some strange hotkey that I don't know about or something.

Don't drag onto the TIMELINE. Drag onto the CANVAS and choose your edit option (Insert, Overwrite), or click the Yellow or Red options on the canvas window...or press F9 or F10. If you drag into the timeline, it will put it where the shaded area indicating the clip is dropped.

  • AirPort Extreme (5th Gen) WiFi access point disappears but wired ethernet is ok

My AirPort Extreme SSID and access point "disappear" randomly from available WiFi networks. I had a 1st gen AirPort Extreme and never had this problem until earlier this year. I thought it might be a failing radio in the 1st gen unit so I used it as a good excuse to get a 5th gen AirPort extreme about 3 months ago. Same problem has been occuring; unfortunately it is random and I cannot get a handle on what/when/why it is happening.
For example, my iPhone 4S was connected to the network at about 1700 today and when I next checked the phone around 2115, no wifi connection and my network was not listed in the WiFi connections. The base station is away from other wireless devices (mouse, keyboard) and is about 10 feet from the nearest PC and monitor. Both printers are accessed via ethernet, not wifi. The strange and puzzling thing is that the PC, which is connected by ethernet to the AirPort Extreme, is still connected to the internet (I can browse, check email, newsgroups, etc.).
When I run the AirPort Utility, the base station is identified (AirPort Extreme 802.11n 5th Generation), there is an appropriate IP address, Version 7.6 firmware, and MAC address is listed. However, when I attempt to Continue or do a Manual Setup, I'm prompted for the admin password, the progress bar moves during 'reading from the Apple wireless device. Please wait...,' and then the utility reports "An error occured while tryong to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error -6722.
If I unplug, wait, and reattach the power to the base station, WiFi becomes available again. When the WiFi connection "disappears", the LED light is solid green.
Any insights are appreciated; please let me know other helpful information I can provide.
    Scott

I have the exact same problem and it's driving me nuts.
I bought an airport extreme n last week and plugged it in, hooked it up to my adsl router by Ethernet, configured it to set up a new wifi network and got the green light. I use an iPhone 4, iPad 2, and Windows 7 PC with an N wifi adaptor.
The airport works fine for about 2 hours before the wireless network disappears without a trace. Green light remains on the base station and I can connect fine by Ethernet.
    "it just don't make sense"
    I hope it's not a windows-7-only thing, Apple.
PS. Updated firmware to the newest version, no difference.
Airport is near to a wireless phone so I set a specific wireless channel and frequency to prevent a clash. No change.

  • Mouse pointer disappearing when recording audio?

I'm having trouble recording audio in presenter -- when I get started recording, after the first slide the mouse pointer seems to disappear onscreen. I can't do anything except clicking escape which brings up the save window and I can use my keyboard to navigate and click save. Then the mouse reappears.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any solutions?

Yes.  This has happened to me, consistently.  I am using Windows 8.1, Office 2013 (64-bit).
I have Adobe Presenter 7 and 8.  I purchased 10 (as an upgrade), but it wouldn't install because the "upgrade" is ONLY available if you're upgrading from Presenter version 9 (something they don't tell you before you buy).  This is a separate issue--I've asked for a refund and in the meantime, I'm using the trial version of 10.
As I record, I notice the arrow from the mouse-pointer disappears and will not re-appear.  I must hit "escape" and save the work that way.  I have tried re-booting, and disabling add-ins.  Nothing seems to work.
I'm afraid we have another "glitch" in an Adobe Product.  What else is new?

  • Change Screen Resolution = Mouse Pointer Disappears!

I am just moving to Arch from Ubuntu which i have used for several years. I am not a novice to linux, but I certainly don't know everything!
I installed arch on my pc last night, an old athlon xp with a radeon 9700 pro. I was going to try out KDE so I followed the beginners guide and successfully set it up. It booted and all was fine. Well except it set my resolution to 1024x768 and I wanted it at 1280x1024 which the monitor handles and is what I used in Ubuntu. So I opened the utility in KDE, based on xrandr I believe, and saw the 1280x1024 resolution. I selected it and Applied and the pointer disappeared. I could move my mouse and see the effects of the pointer hovering over buttons and other fields. So I managed to restart the machine thinking that would fix it, nope, still no dice. So I reverted to 1024x768 and all is good, except I would like to get more on my screen....
Also since I am more familiar with Gnome I thought I would remove kde and install gnome hoping it may make a difference. I successfully removed KDE and installed Gnome, went to change the resolution and had the same problem.
I am not sure what other pertinent information I can give. I will do my best to feed information to get this working. Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Same problem,  in a PC Atom N230 with Intel Chip 950, in new fresh Archlinux installation, but with last Gnome. After this, i have installed KDEmod 4.3.3 and the cursor show fine, only in Gnome cursor not show.
    Any idea?
Edit:  Oh, there are other post about this mouse cursor bug, sorry:

  • Setting White Points in Camera Raw

When setting white points in Adobe Camera Raw, while holding down Alt (on a PC), are the red marks what I should look for? Because white marks also appear? Which ones are relevant for the white point?

ACR doesn’t work that way.  There is an eyedropper for the overall white-balance that you can set by clicking on a relatively bright, neutral area, but there aren’t black and white-point eyedroppers.  But, what is clipped black or white is determined by the output colorspace you have set at the bottom and you can get some idea of what will be clipped black and white by turning on the clipping indicators and watching for the areas you’d be eye-droppering on (the black and white patches in your grayscale) to start showing the clipping color overlay for black and white, but any further toning adjustments will move data in and out of what is darker than black and lighter than white so what is clipped for output will change as you fiddle with the various toning sliders.
The reason things are different:  In PS, when you set a black-point and white-point in Levels and click Ok, the data below and above those is thrown away and that is the starting point for the next adjustment.  In ACR, things are non-destructive and all the adjustments occur simultaneously, rather than sequentially as in PS, and no clipping occurs until you create the output file.  This means that the pixels that are darker than your black-point and lighter than your white-point are still there, and can be moved into the black-to-white range if you do further toning adjustments.  Having more headroom of the pixels that are outside the black-to-white range is good because you won’t get the posterization or banding that occurs when colors and levels are clipped after each adjustment in PS.
Can you describe what you intend your overall workflow to be on an image:  how much adjusting will occur in ACR and how much, if any, might happen in PS, after the image is opened into PS from ACR, or opened from a file saved from ACR?  There might be other ways to approach what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • Mouse pointer disappears after using the magnifying glass in the color picker

    Hello,
I've a problem (one more) with Lion on a Mac mini 2010. Every time I select a color from the screen using the magnifying glass in the color picker, the mouse pointer disappears. I've to move the mouse to the top of the screen and try to click the bar menu. If I succeed, I get the pointer back.
    Someone with the same problem?
    Thanks for reading

I've found a partial solution: The probem doesn't affect to a new fresh user, so you can backup your data, create a new temporary (admin) user, delete the original account and create it again with the same name (to avoid file permission troubles). Remember to backup your data or it will be lost.

  • Xcelsius Dashboard: Right click on chart data point

    Hello friends.
I am working on Xcelsius dashboard development and I have question regarding drill down or connectivity from particular point from a chart.
I have a line chart with different data points and now i want to show some details for a particular point on chart. What are different approaches to connect it to system and show details. I heard we can right click at some data point and then connect to BW system through Webi and show details.
Can anyone let me know about this? Any pointers will be surely appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Agasti.

    Hi Agasti,
you can configure the dril down properties of your chart so that the selected value is written in a cell. Add then a URL button (Web Connectivity), assign an openDocument URL to it and set under the Behaviour tab the drill-down cell (ie. the cell where the drill down value is written to) to be the trigger.
