Click wheel doesnot work...

So basically I took apart my ipod video 30 gig(no warranty left on it anyways) because the centre button on the click wheel was stuck. I followed all precautions and put it back together properly. Next thing I know I turn on the iPod by clicking on the centre button, it powers up fine and goes to the list of options i.e."music, videos, settings, etc. But when I go to scroll or click on the center button again none of these work, the iPod doesn't respond, and after 15 seconds the backlight fades as usual. The only way I can get the backlight back on is to flick the hold switch on and off. When the iPod goes to sleep I can wake it with the center button, but that is the only time the center button works.
I took apart my iPod to recheck everything. Everything is where it should be. I used a anti-static wristband.
I don't understand. someone have the same problem?

If it scrolls, but not clicks, then you have damaged the buttons on the motherboard. The iPod's buttons are on there, so to fix you'd need to totally replace it. The click-wheel works on a separate circuit to the buttons, so would remain unaffected.
Thanks

  • IPod Nano 4th generation click wheel not working. HELP!

i have the ipod nano 4th generation, and my click wheel doesnt work. I've had my ipod in my coat for a few days without knowing and im wondering if its because of the cold. my computer detects it and it turns on and off perfectly. the ipod is also in a very good condition.

Intermittent problems are only covered if BB can verify them.

  • Battery changed, but click wheel not working again

i was changed the new battery for my ipod mini 4G 1 st gen, however the click wheel not working again. the ipod is chargeble, and can lock and unlock, but when the switch turn back to unlock, the ipod is restarting. does anyone who knows what problem i have, and how to fix it? thank you so much
    dell   Windows XP

very likely it is a hardware issue, if after restore to factory setting does not solve.
it could be caused by poor contact or the faulty click wheel of the iPod, just like mine

  • Updated & Restored now click wheel wont work

I have an iPod Nano 2nd generation.
It froze on me... so I followed all of the instructions.
Charged it up. Updated software. Restored the Nano.
    Repeated the process.
Now it is stuck on the select language screen - but anytime I click any buttons - nothing happens!
When I restored it... everything appears normal from within iTunes - it tells me it is synching my music, allows me to name the iPod. Click wheel does work when connected to the computer either.
    HELP?
    Thanks
    Dave

The click wheel is broken and needs to be replaced. It will also need a new battery.

  • HELPP!!  click wheel wont work

the click wheel on my ipod nano will not work. i tried restarting, resetting, and restoring. the click wheel will only work when the ipod is plugged into the usb port. how can i fix this? please help.

This is a bit odd, maybe, but I also got an ipod nano 4th gen for xmas. The thing is, my click wheel is working fine. I've been using it quite frequently for the past 4 days. I wonder if this has to do whether your dock is suitable for the 4th gen. I know that many docks are only set for 3rd gen ipods. Check your docks! Also, I think it makes a difference from where you got your ipod. They all should be okay, but I was just wondering. Mine was shipped into where I live (well actually to my Aunt's house. My aunt gave it to me.:) ) It seems to be working fine. Shelf-life could have somehow damaged the ipod. Like in packaging or something? To fix it, you could try going to a Genius Bar. They are found at the actual apple stores. They could fix it or maybe give you a free fix or whatever. (if your lucky!) Hope this maybe helps?!

  • Ipod click wheel not working

    Hello,
I thought my ipod was coolest gift I could recieve until the click wheel stopped working all of the sudden. That malfunction just about renders it usless. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I have no luck finding a solution with apple. I have reset it, restored it and everything. Can someone help?

Had same problem today. Read somewhere else to try hairdryer on it for a few minutes then reset. Mines is now working, good luck!

  • Click wheel not working + crashes after lock switch (nano 2 gen)

    Hi,
I have an ipod nano 2nd generation for a couple years, and recently it completely stopped working. While it does communicate with itunes no probs, the click wheel doesnt work, and switching lock on/off causes the ipod to reboot. Restoring doesnt help. Any ideas?
As its a pretty old player, the warranty has probably expired, so getting apple to repair it isnt really worth it is it.

How can you reset it if the click wheel isn't
    working?
I was able to get it to reset once or twice, but by the time I got the info about REstore, no-clicky
Anyway put your iPod into iPod diagnostics and see if
the clickwheel is working. First, reset the iPod, and
when you see the apple logo, start to hold the select
    and rewind buttons.
The only time now I see the Apple Logo is after a restore. The clickwheel doesn't do anything now... not even light up the display when I touch it...
Any other ideas for me to try?

  • IPod mini click wheel not working

Tuesday i was listening to my ipod and it worked just fine. the click wheel was working and everything was okay. i put it on my ihome to charge that night and left it there until i got home from school the next day. it worked fine in the morning(wednesday) when my alarm went off. wednesday night i took it off my i home and my click did not work at all. the buttons work but i can't scroll thru my songs or change the volume. it still has it's original battery so i know that's not what could have damaged it. between the time that it did work and the time i discovered it didn't it was not dropped or exposed to any extremes. i have reset it several times and restored to the factory setting and nothing has worked. please help!! i have had it for almost 2 years so it's out of warranty. is there anything i can do to fix it myself? i don't have the money to service it.

Hi to both of you, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Well, if resets and restores are not helping, the clickwheel is malfunctioning. If you don't have the money to have Apple service it, would you be able to buy a new part?
If you can't buy a new part... Your only option is to open the bottom of the mini, slide the clickwheel out, dissasemble the clickwheel, put it back together, and reconnect it. It may sound like a lot, but it's pretty easy. I've had to do it on my blue mini, but realize that this may not solve the problem and if it does, last forever. I finally had to get a new clickwheel. Visit: theipodmini.blogspot.com for instructions, which is my site dedicated to the mini.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem or a botched repair job. Take it back to where you got it fixed.

  • My click wheel wont work, what should i do?

My click wheel has stopped working. I can switch the hold switch from off to on and the i-pod will react but when i go to use my wheel it doesn't react. I have tried to hold the menu and select button to reset it, but nothing. I have even restored it and yet i still have the same problem. So if you have any idea can you please help me?

How old is your iPod? You might need a replacement if resetting isn't working.

  • Will the accessories for iPod with click wheel 20G work with the new gen?

    Hi,
I have a iPod with click wheel 20GB and am considering to get a new one, iPod with video 40GB or 80GB. Can I still use the following iPod accessories for 20GB one?
    - dock
    - USB power adapter
    Thanks.

I know a iPod comes with a usb cord but I would like to use the USB power adapter I have so I can charge iPod during travel with computer/laptop.
It seems to me that the connector in USB power adapter is a regular USB type B connector. But, I could not find the information to confirm it is a regular USB type B. Even it is the regular USB type B connector it does not work with the a usb cord shipped with iPod, which is a USB type A connector. That's the reason I would like to know if I can use it with new generation of iPod.
Or, I can just get a USB connector converter. But, not sure if it can supply the enough power to ...
B.t.w., the model number of the power adapter is A1070.

  • Can't Get My Click Wheel to Work

I just updated my software on my ipod and restored all of the settings now i can't get passed the language prompt.

OK first off thanks for the response to my issue. As of right now i am not getting the ipod to force itself into disc mode but I am trying to stay positive about the situation and hope my dilegence will pay off. Let me try to explain the entire problem from the get go and hope that you or someone else might be able to get this thing up and running again....
My ipod was working great for years until one day i went to turn it on with an entirely dead battery... I at first got the dead battery icon which then turned into the 'do not diosconnect' prompt... After an hour or so it turned into a sad ipod icon... I took it to the apple store they told me it was a hardware problem and i would not be able to retrieve any files off of it to put back on my pc's hard drive... Being the optomistic type, I tried once again and got my pc to recognize it once again so i immediately purchased an ipod to pc file transfer program and was at least able to restore the files back to my pc's hard drive (proving the apple genius rep. to be wrong)... From there i did a software update and then a settings restore... now i can get the language prompt to come up on the ipod's screen but i cant get the click wheel to respond... yet it will reset and turn off using the conventional click wheel method which proves the click wheel is being seen by the ipod but why can i not get it to go any further? This is where i stand... Anyone have any other ideas? (This ipod is like a baby to me... I just lost my job and cannot afford to purchase another. PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY BABY!)

  • Click wheel not working properly anymore

Weird problem... my click wheel (4th gen) doens't work correctly all of a sudden. The buttons all work fine, but the wheel does not, meaning I cannot scroll through menus or turn the volume up/down or skip through a song's timeline anymore. I have tried the 5 R's. All of them. Including resetting the ipod to factory settings. Updated to the 1-10-06 software update. Just very strange the buttons work (play/pause, select, menu, forward, back) but the wheel itself does not (volume, scroll, scrub). Anyone heard of this? Went through a lengthy search and have found nothing so far. Thanks for your help.

Well Lufo you're not alone. My 4th generation iPod has exactl the same symptoms as yours. Scroll wheel not respondng at all but the select/menu/rew/fwd/play & pause working ok. I've tried the restore, firmware updates and, well everything imaginable. Mine is 2 months out of warranty and have just gone through the Apple repair service and have come back saying it will be £166.00 ($290.00) which I am absolutley shocked by. Needless to say that I didn't continue with that and at that price they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. It's near the cost of a brand new unit here in the UK. To say I'm disguted is an understatment. Does anyone know of any good non-Apple repair outlets here in the UK?

  • Clicker wheel not working?

the clicker wheel is not working on my ipod mini which is only about 4months old. any suggestions why or how to fix it?

Do you have a 1st gen Nano? I have the exact, and I mean exact, same problem with my old 1st Gen iPod Nano. That's part of the reason why I got the new 2nd Gen one. I'm really not sure why it does that. It runs all my patience out trying to work the stupid thing. Now that I have my new 2nd Gen, I just use my old one to back-up my music and let it sit on my shelf to gather dust.

  • Play/Pause on clicker wheel not working

    Hey,
The play/pause part on my clicker wheel is not working!!
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a solution?

    Hi Katrine,
I think your Ipod is already hung up. Try press the menu and the center button at the same time for about 5-8 seconds and your Ipod will be ok.
