Click wheel issues, dead pixel

Ok, so I have issues with a very loose click wheel and a VERY obvious dead pixel, it's like bright purple compared to the rest of the screen and is very annoying while watching videos. I have a purple 16gb Are these issues that I can get an exchange on? I've babied this thing to death, I haven't dropped it or scratched it in any way. I'd like to just go in to the Apple store and exchange it, but does it matter where you bought it? Obviously I'm still within my Apple warranty, so do they just look it up with the serial number? I don't have my purchase receipt either. Any help would be wonderful, thanks in advance!

No, it does not matter. Make an appointment before going to the Apple store. The genius bar will help you. If you don't have an appointment, you could wait a long time.

  • IPod classic click wheel issues

    Hi,
    I've got a 160gb iPod classic.
    About a year old.
Increasingly, I've been having click wheel issues wheel the click wheel is unresponsive.
    Is this a common occurrence?
    The iPod plays fine.
Is thee anything I can do or should I take it to an apple store?

I solved it by first reseting the iPod of holding Menu and the select button. Then I Resotred it using the iPod Software Updater.

  • IPod 40 gb click wheel completely dead!

I bought an iPod (40gb click wheel) in September 2004 for the grand sum of £299 – so it isn’t even 2 years old! It has totally died. Firstly in June it refused to be identified by my Dell computer; then it corrupted a part of the software in my computer which identifies my DVD/CD drive. I had that fixed by Dell – thank goodness it didn’t do any further damage! As a result of not being recognised by my computer I was unable to add additional tunes to it. The iPod was still working but then started to make lots of noises. It then stopped working altogether and produced the folder with!. I phoned the support line in early July and was told that there are several articles on the web site which could help – I followed the recommendations and it still continued to try to re-boot itself. I was also told that getting it fixed would cost me £166 as the one year warranty had run out !!!! (Surely it should last longer than that – also I can buy something new which is more reliable for less than that!) The last stage was the final appearance of the apple logo, a black screen and now it is completely dead. It refuses to charge up with the battery and I’m absolutely livid. It doesn’t warrant being fixed. I hearby plan to return this lump of rubbish to Apple as I was on the verge of throwing it away but didn’t want to pollute the environment with whatever nasties lie within.

I've got the same problem mate. The clickwheel started to ge dead in places like around skip forward track area, (which was annoying to say the least.) But the other day it completely died, now it tries to start up showing the apple logo, then you can hear inside the hardrive spin up then a loud click then it tries this again about 5 times before showing the support website.
Ive probably had the ipod for about 2 years.
Annyoing since its a 40gb ipod and i've barely filled up 13gb. I might take it into see what the shop says but i sort of know its gonna be not worth repairing. Plus the video ipods are looking really good.

  • Ipod nana 3rd gen. menu is on screen, but click wheel is dead

Hi there, got a i-Pod nano 5 years old, never problems. Connect i-Pod with Mac book, appears no icon in itunes.
The menu screen is on, but the click wheel is completely dead. Still for 4 ours. Think menu screen will stop when battery is empty.
    Someone knows what to do?

Make sure the Hold swtich is not ON.  Even if it is OFF, try moving it to ON and then OFF again.
Try doing a Reset of the iPod

A Reset "reboots" the iPod.  It is not erased.

  • Peripheral car audio and click wheel issues w/ Classic

Anyone else out there have a Peripheral Car Audio Interface for their car stereo? I got mine in Dec of '05 and had no problems with it. I get a new Ipod Classic and when I plug it up to the stereo the click wheel becomes nearly useless. It still plays but it's a bear getting to a song. When I unplug it from the stereo the Click wheel works fine. Help!

I'm actually using the BlitzSafe VW/M-LINK1 V.5 in my 03 Jetta. I'm a simple Ipod solution for my car keeping control on the Ipod itself and not my head unit (I'd rather it that way). I'm having the same issue with my 80gb classic. When I plug the Ipod into the interface, the touch wheel itself becomes useless, although I can still control the Ipod with the Menu, forward, back, etc. buttons. As soon as I unplug the Ipod from the interface, my click wheel goes back to normal.
One thing I also noticed is that when the Ipod is plugged in, I can see the wheel actually being used although I'm not touching it. By this I mean you can actually see the volume going up and down or the highlight bar actually moving up and down. You can also hear the Ipod clicking away.
I've talked to Blitzsafe and they told me my Ipod is faulty and to get it looked at. I've tried both a 5th Gen Video and Nano and they both worked perfectly. After reading this thread I'm sure my Ipod isn't the problem although I'd like to try another Classic just to make sure.

  • Ipod Classic click wheel issue

The click wheel on my new Ipod classic (160 gig) is unresponsive at times. Initially I thought it was due to the Claro skin, but the problem seems to be present even after I take off the skin. I seem to have read that there may be a firmware update available to address this issue, but I can't seem to locate it on the Apple site. Can anyone confirm that the problem can be addressed by the update and, if so, where the site is for the firmware update? Thanks.

As far as I can tell there have been no updates to make the classic click wheel more sensitive. NONE of my older 5.5 skins are acceptable though the iSkin evo3 for 5.5G is the best of the sorry lot. I bought a 3-pack (white, black, blue) of the new thin iSkin for the 6G. I find these acceptable but there is no screen cover. It isn't perfect but acceptable to me.
iSkin has just introduced a new evo for 6G. Haven't tried it.
Just as a side note, I find the iSkin for the 6G a bit unresponsive after taking a shower. To me, it would seem that a little skin oil helps responsiveness. Go figure.

  • Volume Click Wheel Issues

My ipod has been working great untill...............
My volume only moves up in bars. If I use the click wheel to raise the volume I only have six to eight volume selections to listem to and the volume bar moves in sections when I raise and lower the it. It didnt do this before. is something wrong with my clickwheel or do I need to change a setting of some sort?

You should try the 5 r's:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If none of these work then you probably have a hardware problem and you'll have to get it repaired.

  • IPod With Click Wheel Issues

    Hey Guys.
I've had my iPod Click Wheel for almost about 2 years now. It's worked great, and did everything I've requested of it. Until recently when I was on vacation, it started doing all of these crazy things. It lost all of the songs however, still having all of the song names and artists. It showed the Folder logo. I reseted it. Didn't solve a thing. I tryed to restore it, I was able to get my songs back on, but it doesnt have the same same speed as it did before the trip. Any suggestions or solutions to this problem? All if greatly appreciated.

I solved it by first reseting the iPod of holding Menu and the select button. Then I Resotred it using the iPod Software Updater.

  • Battery/Click Wheel Crisis!

Ok i have a referbished ipod mini 1st generation. the first one had some problems and now it seems this one they gave me has even more! The battery lasts about 3 hours max. and on occassion it'll be dead and then I'll plug it in and it claims it's done charging! That was my first problem and all of the sudden I'm having click wheel issues. If the back light goes out the click wheel will stop responding! My ipod died a minute after being charged for an hour. I pressed Select and Play (a friend told me this is how you can really see the battery status) and then all of the sudden a check mark shows up and "It's ok to remove your ipod" or something like that shows up and at the top it says enable disk use which i didn't! And now the click wheel won't respond.. at all. Can someone please help me or atleast tell me what went wrong? Thank you.

You should try here if you want a replacement battery (or somewhere like it).

There are many cheaper and better batteries out there than the ones Apple provide. Google 'iPod batteries'.

Hi my 4th gen nano stopped working, the screens ok with no error messages but the click wheel no longer functions other than reseting. I've set it back to default ok but still no good as it's stuck on the language page. Is it dead??

  • Shouldn't Apple recall and provide FREE replacement for MacBook Pro screens with ghosting and dead pixel issues?

Read the forum posts, Google the issue, watch the YouTube videos on the problems; they are everywhere. I purchased a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and the screen is riddled with dead pixels, white ghosting throughout, and image retention issues, all from a company that promotes the quality of the product they sell. There's no way this issue facing so many consumers shouldn't result in Apple replacing these screens for FREE.
I purchased the high-end machine for photo and video editing. Photo editing is particularly difficult when I can't tell if I have dust, dirt or colour shifts in my images or if it's just the screen overlaying these issues. I've never had so many issues with any screen I've purchased, from my Panasonic Plasma TV to my cheap ACER laptop. Please Apple, quit ignoring this issue.

  • IPod 3G click wheel volume issue

I have a weird issue- occasionally when I am listening to my iPod 3g nano I can hear the click wheel clicking. when I look at the display the volume is oscillating up and down one click and the click is audible. At first I thought the silicone case (soft silicone, so it stretches) I had it in was hitting the wheel which was causing that. But when I take it out of the case it continues to happen. Eventually it stops, but it's rather weird. Anyone else have this problem?

Similar problem. I have the 20 GB click wheel iPod, iTunes 7. I have major difficulties now trying to add songs onto the iPod. I can put on a few albums worth, but when it gets up near 1 GB, the hard drive starts spinning and if I don't do some quick cancelling and ejecting of the iPod it freezes, wipes my iPod, and I have to restore it.
I never really connected it to iTunes update, however, because I was using the Pod for a while since I updated. I had also added a few albums worth of songs since the update with no problem. The first freeze occurred when I was adding songs given to me by my brother, some of which were partially write protected (ie, he had bought them).
Sorry, can't really help, just adding my own story...

  • Sept 2012 Macbook Pro dead pixel issue

    Hi,
My Macbook pro from Sept 2012 has recently had a major issue with pixels dying, around 10-15 in a few weeks. My Macbook is out of warranty as over a year old so I am wondering what my options are? I don't believe the dead pixels are a fault of my own as I have seen a lot of problems with this issue online.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately dead pixels cannot be resuscitated.  The solution is a replacement of the display.
Had you purchased Apple Care, the display, if it was outside the Apple pixel display standards, may have been replaced for free.
    Ciao.

  • Retina highlight/ dead pixels issues

    Hi
I have recently started to see highlight (dead) pixels on my MBP retina display. I thought these are dead pixels so I went to the Apple store to get it fixed.
It turns out that these are not dead pixels but actually tiny dents on the thin glass cover that might have happen from small particles on the keyboard or the surface around it.
According to the guys in the Apple store a few people came with the same issue but we where told that this is not covered by warranty as it's a damage caused by the user!
This is a big concern and should be investigated by Apple. does this mean that we need to keep the keyboard and surrounding area completely clean each time before we close the lid? It never happened on any of my laptops in 15 years.
If you see something that looks like a dead pixels try to scrape the the glass with your nail. If it feels like there is something on the glass like a small bump then it's not a dead pixel but a tiny dent on the glass and Apple won't fix it under warranty.
This makes the MBP Retina a product a very fragile product so think twice before you buy one.
    Cheers,
    Mica

I just got back from the apple store. The guy immediately agreed to replace the screen under my apple care and promised that we would check if there would still be image retention issues with the new one in the store and that they'd swap it again if there were. He also claimed that while he'd seen issues early on, he hadn't seen any problems for the past few months.
I got a new samsung screen and they ran an image retention test in the store with me and everything checked out fine. So I just want to give a big shoutout to apple for being super cool about this and to tell others with the same worries as me to just go there and talk to them. The problem I guess with looking at stuff online is that you mostly only see people  writing that have had bad experiences... so here's to also reporting when you have a good one!
