Click wheel not working after replacing it!

I have replaced an old battery on my 5th Gen iPod. Then I noticed that the click wheel wasn't working at all. I have checked all the connections and everything seemed connected but still not working. I bought another click wheel, replaced it and it's still now working. Maybe there is something else wrong.
Can anybody give me some feedback please! Thanks:)

The Hold switch is in the OFF position?
I don't have experience with a 5th gen iPod, but on older models, there is an internal connector and ribbon cable that links the Hold switch to the logic board.  Makes sure that connection is secure, and not damaged.  The iPod may think the Hold switch is ON, when it is not.  That would cause the click wheel to be unresponsive.

  • Click Wheel not Working after changing battery.

After changing my battery on my IPod Mini, the click wheel isn't working properly. I can press the menu,select,play/pause, forward and back buttons, but I when you rotate your finger around the wheel it doesn't work. Any suggestions??

Hmmmm... If you changed the battery yourself, you might have damaged the click wheel when you took it apart. Re-check the wire that connects it to the main circuit board, and if not that, examine the click wheel itself. If apple changed the battery for you, call them because it's not your fault.
    Good luck...

  • 20G click wheel not working after 7.1 update

I updated my iTunes to 7.1, then update my iPod software to the latest version. Now when I push a button on it it shows the 'power brick plugging into the wall socket' icon and won't do anything. Also, when i plug it into to my win 2000 machine via USB, I only have usb on this machine, no firewire, nothing happens. I can't get it to recognize the device any which way. When I reset the iPod it shows the apple, but then goes right back to the power brick icon. I've left the thing plugged into the wall over night to make sure it had juice, but that didn't help. Sometimes when I reset it while plugged into my computer it comes back with a battery 1/3 full icon. If only I could get my box to see the iPod then I could try to restore it
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi did you ever resolve this problem as it is happening to me now.

  • Battery changed, but click wheel not working again

i was changed the new battery for my ipod mini 4G 1 st gen, however the click wheel not working again. the ipod is chargeble, and can lock and unlock, but when the switch turn back to unlock, the ipod is restarting. does anyone who knows what problem i have, and how to fix it? thank you so much

very likely it is a hardware issue, if after restore to factory setting does not solve.
it could be caused by poor contact or the faulty click wheel of the iPod, just like mine

  • Click wheel not working + crashes after lock switch (nano 2 gen)

    Hi,
I have an ipod nano 2nd generation for a couple years, and recently it completely stopped working. While it does communicate with itunes no probs, the click wheel doesnt work, and switching lock on/off causes the ipod to reboot. Restoring doesnt help. Any ideas?
As its a pretty old player, the warranty has probably expired, so getting apple to repair it isnt really worth it is it.

How can you reset it if the click wheel isn't
    working?
I was able to get it to reset once or twice, but by the time I got the info about REstore, no-clicky
Anyway put your iPod into iPod diagnostics and see if
the clickwheel is working. First, reset the iPod, and
when you see the apple logo, start to hold the select
    and rewind buttons.
The only time now I see the Apple Logo is after a restore. The clickwheel doesn't do anything now... not even light up the display when I touch it...
Any other ideas for me to try?

  • IPod mini click wheel not working

Tuesday i was listening to my ipod and it worked just fine. the click wheel was working and everything was okay. i put it on my ihome to charge that night and left it there until i got home from school the next day. it worked fine in the morning(wednesday) when my alarm went off. wednesday night i took it off my i home and my click did not work at all. the buttons work but i can't scroll thru my songs or change the volume. it still has it's original battery so i know that's not what could have damaged it. between the time that it did work and the time i discovered it didn't it was not dropped or exposed to any extremes. i have reset it several times and restored to the factory setting and nothing has worked. please help!! i have had it for almost 2 years so it's out of warranty. is there anything i can do to fix it myself? i don't have the money to service it.

Hi to both of you, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Well, if resets and restores are not helping, the clickwheel is malfunctioning. If you don't have the money to have Apple service it, would you be able to buy a new part?
If you can't buy a new part... Your only option is to open the bottom of the mini, slide the clickwheel out, dissasemble the clickwheel, put it back together, and reconnect it. It may sound like a lot, but it's pretty easy. I've had to do it on my blue mini, but realize that this may not solve the problem and if it does, last forever. I finally had to get a new clickwheel. Visit: theipodmini.blogspot.com for instructions, which is my site dedicated to the mini.

  • Click Wheel not working properly after Ipod got wet

Really need some help please as alhough my ipod is sort of working after it got wet, I can play songs and so on but I cant't use the select button in the middle.
This therefore means that I can't even reset it or select options in the menu list like playlist, artists etc.
Any ideas on how to get it working properly again?

hi there and welcome to Apple Discussions!
what you need to do is submerge the iPod in a bowl of uncooked rice. this gets rid of the moisture left in the iPod after it got wet.
that should clear up the problem.

  • Clicking wheel not working!

Hey guys, I really appreciate the help. It would make my day.
All right basically I have an iPod Nano 2nd generation. Just a few days ago, the clicking wheel has a lot of problems. Sometimes it will just be normal and then it will be unresponsive randomly after 2 minutes or something like that. No matter how I turn/touch the wheel, it won't move. But listen to this. Once I toggle the hold on and off and then quickly turn the wheel, it works for about 5 seconds. Every other button works fine. I can press the menu, select, fast foward, everything. How can I fix this?

That is a lot of money. I would take it to an Apple store, they must have one in Jersey or hit the one in New York. I know that is a hassel, but when you go there make sure you tell them all that you think is wrong. Don't be afraid to talk to a manager. Just keep it calm and see what happens.
But if your ipod does have a dent or show signs of being banged around you will not get it repaired by Apple. The warranty only covers manufacture defects. Wish you the best of luck.

  • Nano click wheel not working

I have a 4GB nano that worked fine the day after Christmas. I was able to move music over, click my way around, raise/lower volume, all the good stuff.
Day 2, when I tried to use it... nothing... zilch...
No scrolling, the display was still showing the last song I played. I was able to reset it a few times, but nothing helped. I took it to someone who is more iPod literate than me and he suggested a Restore. Did that. Still nothing. It is stuck on the Language menu.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I plan on using this for an upcoming marathon, and I'm sure that I won't get it back from Apple before that.

  • Ipod 4g click wheel not working

ive been reading that i need to reset it but the problem is that the click wheel / buttons dont work so if they dont work how do i reset the ipod?

Similar problem-although it may be of my own doing. I just replaced the battery in my 3g 10gig ipod. Now the controls don't work. Nothing-not the click wheel, nor any of the buttons. I accidentally stabbed the copper encasement that surrounds the headphone jack at the top of the unit when I opened it, but that can't be the reason for the dead controls, can it? The hold switch still causes the display to come alive when I toggle it. The battery works because the display works when its not plugged in. The hard drive works because I just synched it with iTunes. I tried a hard reset, but nothing because the controls don't work.

  • Click wheel not working properly anymore

Weird problem... my click wheel (4th gen) doens't work correctly all of a sudden. The buttons all work fine, but the wheel does not, meaning I cannot scroll through menus or turn the volume up/down or skip through a song's timeline anymore. I have tried the 5 R's. All of them. Including resetting the ipod to factory settings. Updated to the 1-10-06 software update. Just very strange the buttons work (play/pause, select, menu, forward, back) but the wheel itself does not (volume, scroll, scrub). Anyone heard of this? Went through a lengthy search and have found nothing so far. Thanks for your help.

Well Lufo you're not alone. My 4th generation iPod has exactl the same symptoms as yours. Scroll wheel not respondng at all but the select/menu/rew/fwd/play & pause working ok. I've tried the restore, firmware updates and, well everything imaginable. Mine is 2 months out of warranty and have just gone through the Apple repair service and have come back saying it will be £166.00 ($290.00) which I am absolutley shocked by. Needless to say that I didn't continue with that and at that price they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. It's near the cost of a brand new unit here in the UK. To say I'm disguted is an understatment. Does anyone know of any good non-Apple repair outlets here in the UK?

  • Clicker wheel not working?

the clicker wheel is not working on my ipod mini which is only about 4months old. any suggestions why or how to fix it?

Do you have a 1st gen Nano? I have the exact, and I mean exact, same problem with my old 1st Gen iPod Nano. That's part of the reason why I got the new 2nd Gen one. I'm really not sure why it does that. It runs all my patience out trying to work the stupid thing. Now that I have my new 2nd Gen, I just use my old one to back-up my music and let it sit on my shelf to gather dust.

    Hey,
The play/pause part on my clicker wheel is not working!!
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a solution?

    Hi Katrine,
I think your Ipod is already hung up. Try press the menu and the center button at the same time for about 5-8 seconds and your Ipod will be ok.
