Click wheel scrolling

Why does click wheel scrolling on an iPod not allow lists - songs, artist, album, etc. - to rollover from end to beginning and vise-versa? For example, it would nice while scrolling through an alpha list of album titles, you could go from "A" items backwards through "Z" items, instead of going all the way through the alphabet from "A" to "Z". Will this ever be allowed?

Apple likes to add little annoying things so that when they release the new ipod they can solve it on purpose and people will be like YAY!! thats probably what that is

In Logic X, the mouse click wheel scroll is way too fast on the arrange window and the piano roll.  Is there a way to adjust this?  This is the way I scrolled for MIDI editing on Logic 9

Hi cris2121, assuming you're using a mouse from apple, go to >System Preferences<
it's here where one can configure a mouse device.
Additionally you can also configure Scrubbing in Logic: "When in scrub mode, you can slowly move the playhead in the Tracks Window and the Audio (and optional MIDI) will be played back. The playback speed depends on how fast you move the Playhead in either direction."
    Have a nice day!

  • Click wheel scroll acts oddly.

The scroll wheel on my iPod acts funny. Like, if you're scrolling through a long list and you're making lot's of spins, it just doesn't always register. It doesn't really have a very smooth scroll. I don't know how to describe it, but if you've experienced it, you know what I mean.
So has this happened to anyone? Or is this just something with my iPod?

Happened once when I first purchased it. Newbie glitch? Resetting the iPod fixed it. No problems since.

  • Ipod classic, and its click wheel

well, i used to have a 30gb video and the click wheel scrolled easily and didnt pause, now i have a 80gb classic, and when i go to scroll straight away it doesnt start to scroll, until about a second later. Is this common, or do i need to exchange and replace it because it is faulty?
    thanks

Indeed that works, but it also allows for the iPod to catch up so compensates for the menu read that it seems to be doing. Not ideal, but alas it works.
For general responsiveness I've found that pressing ever so slightly instead of moving your thumb works well. So, you're not pushing hard enough to click the wheel but you are applying pressure.
I've just compared to a friend's previous generation iPod and there is definitely a loss in sensitivity.

  • How can I scroll down the top menu list and then the sub-menu lists when the iPod click wheel is broken?

I have an iPod Classic 4th Generation and my click wheel connection is broken and so does not work. I can still play music on my Bose dock station but I cannot choose which album I want to play because I cannot scroll down the playlists.  I can just play the first tune in the list or from where I last paused a tune. Is there a way to scroill down the list, including the top menu list, without using the click wheel?

Index Values, I think, is the property you are looking for.  Set the index to 0 to be at the top.

  • HELP-40GB i-pod with scrolling click wheel

ok first of all, i got this new computer. I dowloaded itunes onto it. I want to plug in my i-pod into my new comp but im afraid that all my songs will be deleted. I have all my songs on my other computer, but the other computer isnt working. I also need to plug it into the new comp because a little folder with the ! comes up every once and a while. Also, my i-pod begins to play a song then it stops and it goes to the next song, this is related with the menu icon and the !. Now all of a sudden i press the MENU button and the apple logo pops up then it just turns back off. WHAT DO I DO? i want to keep all my songs, but at the same time im afraid that if i plug it into the new comp all my songs will disappear. Also why is my i-pod just shutting off when i turn it on?

The first thing that anyone is going to suggest to you in respect of the folder and ! error is to reset your iPod and/or restore it. Restoring the iPod will erase anything that's stored on it and return it to factory settings. You may not have any choice but to do this.

  • Why does my click wheel not advance but it does scroll

my click wheel works, but not completely. see it turns, so i can lower the volume, rate the song or even advance the song. but when i want to skip, replay or use the menu, it's not working right. i have to use my fingernail (and it's hard on the nail polish ) and push at the very edge of the wheel and the ipod itself. and then i might have to do this 5, 6, 7 and even more than 10 times. this is for all four functions, even pausing it takes effort.
i like to alternate between my playlists, so i need the menu function and sometimes i like to replay the song (i write while i listen to my ipod and need to repeat it). i have the latest software, the latest itunes, recently i restored my ipod to it's factory settings, but still this has not fixed it.
i am not working right now and can't afford a repair or a new ipod. other than the music not advancing and such, my ipod works fine.
it's almost like the circut board inside has shifted, that when i push on it, it's not connecting. but the scroll is fine.
any suggestions on how to fix it?

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type '''''about:config'''''.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''''Be Careful''''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar.
Type '''mousewheel.enable_pixel_scrolling'''. Its current value is '''False'''

  • HP mouses, with smooth non-clicking scroll wheel, like HP XA965AA

Hi HP. I love your mouse HP XA965AA. It hfs the best scroll wheel I ever tried. I'm using it for a few years. But now it's broken.
Please, could you name other, maybe some newer models, that have the same smooth non-clicking (I mean, scroll wheel can be clicked, like a button... but no 'step' scrolling, just the smooth movement of the wheel) scroll wheel.
p.s. I'd prefer a big wireless mouse with high DPI.
    Thank's.

You nailed it with the ati-dri package!  Had a corrupt checksum!  Forced a reinstall and now all good
    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Cannot SCROLL on click wheel. :(

iPod (40 GB Click Wheel)- I've reseted it already.
Have had this ipod for about 2 months.
Got from apple store NEW. Because of broken one I had.
Only used it about 20/25 times.
I can click ...but can't scroll.
Therefore, I can't hear anything, because I can't make it louder, and I can't get into my songs..
Only my first playlist because that requires no scrolling DOWN.
    I've resetted it like 10x.
And i've plugged it back in my computer.
    And i've updated my itunes.

I read old posts and saw onethat problem was moisture. That post suggested using hair dryer to dry out the wheel. I tried it and it works; IPOD works perfectly now. Mine had quit working while I used it during sweatty work out--so moisture was the problem.

  • Is there a trick to using the center of the click wheel on my ipod nano 5th generation?

I just bought a used (only 5 hrs playtime) from someone and I cannot get the center of the click wheel to pick up my touch very well...it takes forever to scroll thru and its frustrating! Is it normal for it to be that difficult to use or do I just need to get used to it?

It is not normal, there is something wrong with the click wheel.

  • Refurbed 4th Generation Click Wheel 20 GB - Transfer songs with Firewire?

I currently own a 2nd generation iPod scroll wheel (that's about to die any day)...I'm thinking of getting a refurbed 4th Generation Click Wheel 20 GB.
Question: Can I load my huge iTunes library onto the refurbed 4th generation click wheel via Firewire? My iMac only has USB 1.1 and I don't want to transfer the data via USB (it would take forever)....unsure if this iPod will actually transfer data via Firewire or if it uses Firewire for charging purposes only.

Firewire is supported for data transfer and charging on the 4th Gen iPod.
You should have no problem at all, provided you have a Firewire-to-DockConnector cable. (I'm not sure if this is included with a refurb iPod)

  • Ipod 1st generation click wheel not responding - won't reset - apple icon

My ipod won't reset or show up in itunes when connected.  Apple icon seems to be frozen on screen.  How can I reset it?  Help!

This is really the 1st gen iPod from 2001, with a non-touch non-click wheel that physically turns, and connects with a FireWire cable?
Make sure the Hold switch is not in the ON position?
The older iPods did a reset differently from more recent iPod that have a click wheel.  Be sure you are following the appropriate reset steps in this document, based on the actual iPod model.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If it's a 1st gen iPod, it would be How to reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector).  The buttons to press and hold are different from later iPods.

  • 3rd Gen Nano click wheel won't work in the car.  My OLD one worked, but this one doesn't.

I use a  PXDP iPod2Car iPod interface in my 02 Firebird.  My original, trusty 3rd gen. nano used to work perfectly.  It charged, and the steering wheel as well as main stereo controls operated it.  Something happened to it recently (my guess is the logic board went bad) and it does not come on at all, plugged in or not.  I actually have 2 more just like it that I was going to give away, but decided to keep.
Neither one of these will let me use the click wheel to scroll while plugged into the car - the old one did.
I can only change songs with the car's controls.
The only difference between these two and the old one, is that they have the HP logo on the back.  Are they later models, with perhaps different hardware?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Is there any hope for the old one?
I hate not being able to scroll at all!
    thanks in advance!

Contact PXDP.  They should know if their product is compatible with your iPod Nano.
Why won't my iPod play through my iPod speakers or car kit?

  • I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel

I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel. I have fully charged it tried resetting it and on two different computers with the latest iTunes I have restored it with the latest firmware then moved it to hold and off hold held in the menue button and select button for 10 seconds but all I get is a screen where I select the language but cant get any response from the scroll wheel.
The hold button is working (I see the lock icon go on and off) I have done the restore procedure and then reset many times but no good I am wondering if I should open it up and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
I would appreciate any advice thanks in advance. (This is my Daughters ipod mine is an 8 gig one.)

You need a newer model iPod, a 4G or 5G. The 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Click wheel no longer works

    Hey guys,
The other day, my click wheel just completely stopped working. I got it for Christmas '04 (Suffice to say, I'm disappointed that it hasn't even lasted two years yet). It is a 4th-gen 40GB black/white display. Prior to it completely not working, only the bottom right "quarter" of the click wheel would not work (play/pause and ff worked, sliding my thumb around did not move the cursor). However, now I cannot scroll around at all. It appears to work somewhat, as when I move it sometimes, the volume on a song will go up, though at a rate that would probably get to full in 50-60 years.
I know for a fact it is not frozen (or on hold ;p) because it will turn off and on. Furthermore, anything that requires a press works.
I've tried everything except for restore it, and if that's all I can do aside from send it into Apple, I may end up doing that, since it's useless to me if I can only play track 1 of 6500. ;p
Any ideas? Is this something apple can fix/replace?
Thanks so much for any help,
    Ted
