Click Wheel Very Sensitive

The click wheel on my new iPod Nano 3rd Gen seems very sensitive. When I think it's set on a menu selection I lift my thumb (carefully) and it moves up or down. Is there a way to adjust the click wheel so it has a heavier action?

You know I have this problem too... I do have a silicone skin over it which I thought was most of the problem.. But I went looking in settings and thought let's turn on the clicker (Settings/Clicker). I think it actually helps - it might be that the act of clicking slows it down ever so slightly.
It's weird I picked it up and it seemed to do it... then I turned the Clicker on speaker played with it and then turned it off and I swear it works better. If you don't mind the clicker maybe leaving it on makes sense

  • Click wheel not sensitive in one spot

This may sound funny, and maybe I'm just not getting it, but it appears that my click wheel has no sensitivity one one spot. For example, when I scroll through songs, as I go around the wheel, there is one spot where it stops and then when I move past it, it goes again. I've noticed that when you put your finger on the wheel, a scroll bar appears, and if I put my finger on the spot, nothing happens, like it can't tell my finger is there. I just exchanged my iPod and noticed the same thing on the one I just changed. Is this a common problem on iPod classics?

There seems to be no sensitivity problem with the location you're describing on my click wheel. Try to reset your iPod and see if that works. Take it to an Apple store for support it all else fails.

  • Ipod Classic click wheel issue

The click wheel on my new Ipod classic (160 gig) is unresponsive at times. Initially I thought it was due to the Claro skin, but the problem seems to be present even after I take off the skin. I seem to have read that there may be a firmware update available to address this issue, but I can't seem to locate it on the Apple site. Can anyone confirm that the problem can be addressed by the update and, if so, where the site is for the firmware update? Thanks.

As far as I can tell there have been no updates to make the classic click wheel more sensitive. NONE of my older 5.5 skins are acceptable though the iSkin evo3 for 5.5G is the best of the sorry lot. I bought a 3-pack (white, black, blue) of the new thin iSkin for the 6G. I find these acceptable but there is no screen cover. It isn't perfect but acceptable to me.
iSkin has just introduced a new evo for 6G. Haven't tried it.
Just as a side note, I find the iSkin for the 6G a bit unresponsive after taking a shower. To me, it would seem that a little skin oil helps responsiveness. Go figure.

  • IPod Classic click wheel 'covering' wearing away?

    Hi!
This is not an issue with software or any problems connecting - it is simply an issue with the design!
I recently bought a new iPod classic - less than 1 month ago.
It went for its first outing today, and over the course of the day, what appears to be a 'covering' over the click wheel has started to wear away?
Is this normal behaviour or is this a fault?
It leaves a residue on my fingers when I rub it harshly?
I have never owned an iPod classic before - my previous ipods have had the shiny click wheel!
l've attached a photo to show you what's happened - any input would be great... has anyone else's done this or should i go about claiming for an exchange?! The click wheel functions are not affected.
    Thanks!

  • Ipod Classic click wheel problam

So I have an Ipod class that is just over a year old, and today the click wheel stopped working. It still lets me scroll, but when I try to click menu, the middle button, play, etc, it won't do anything.
It won't even let me restart because it doesn't let me click the menu or the middle button.
Is there anything I can do? I don't want to use my tax rebate to buy a new ipod if it is just going to break down in 14 months again.

How do I adjust SUPER-sensitive click-wheel??? It's driving me nuts! There has to be a way to tone it down. I didn't see anything in the settings or on iTunes with it plugged in. I've compared it to many others and mine is horrible. I can't even click any of the function buttons without the click-wheel operation spinning. PLEASE HELP! Thanks a million. (3rd Gen Nano)

  • Lost sensitivity on click wheel

    Hi:
I have a 20GB 4th Gen. iPod. I recently lost touch-sensitivity in the click wheel of my iPod. The buttons still work, but I cannot scroll through the iPod menus or adjust the volume. I am also unable to reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Select buttons. I have reset the iPod using the iPod Software Updater, but that did not alleviate the problem. Most importantly, my iPod is no longer under warranty, so if anyone could offer any possible solutions, I would truly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

This has happened to my iPod Quite a few times.
All i do to resolve this is get a damp dish cloth and just clean the dam thing. Dry it off. And then it should be OK

  • 160 GB Click Wheel Sensitivity

It seems like my new 160 GB Click wheel isn't as sensitive as my 80 GB was. Is anyone else having this problem? On my 80 GB I would barely touch it and it would scroll but on the 160 you have to keep your finger still for a couple seconds and then turn it and apply a little more pressure. Thanks for the help.

i am also having this same problem however with the 80gb ipod classic, i used to have an 80gb ipod video, i now have the 80gb classic and the click wheel hardly works compared to the old one, also it does not pick anything up throught ipod socks, unlike the video where it picked up every tiny movement, also when scrolling through menus it sometimes stops or never even starts. applying pressure to the click wheel does help but avoiding pressing the buttons while applying pressure is difficult and not pratical while on the move, the only advice i can give from experience is press on it harder and just hope that apple come through with the new firm ware sooner rather than later which will hopefully improve sensitivity. if anyone has any other solutions to get the click wheel working better than it is now i would be grateful. cheers.

  • IPod Classic' Click Wheel Sensitivity

I just got iPod Classic 80Gb. The click wheel is so bad. Sometimes it doesn't work. I have read in this forum about this issue and found a lot of people also have this issue. I was thinking to exchange with the new one because I still have the warranty. Do you think I just wait for the firmwire fixes it or just exchange it. Is it possible to exchange with this issue? I had iPod Video 30Gb 5th generation and it was a lot easier to adjust with the click wheel.
    Thanks,

That may work for some, but for me it is the opoposite. If my fingers are too dry (I tend to have very dry skin) I need to add a little oil or just a lick of my finger in order to get the wheel to respond better. Yes, I have the latest firmware.
So if the above cleaning does not work for you, try the opposite - add a bit of moisture to your finger.

Additionally I suppose (not sure though) that the technology behind a click wheel is similar to that behind the laptops' touchpads or trackpads. Advices like those below work for me:
    http://tech.yahoo.com/gd/cleaning-your-laptop-s-touchpad/153160
*Carefully clean finger oils and dirt from your laptop's touchpad with a damp cloth; you can also add a small amount - less than 50 percent of the solution - of isopropyl alcohol.
Touchpads are sealed, so you probably don't have to worry about a touchpad problem developing because of dirt or dust. Touchpads can become slippery or sticky from the transfer of oils or other substances from the fingers of those troublesome humans who use them, though")

  • Click Wheel and Center sensitivity?

Been messing around with my newly purchased G4 Nano, and I've noticed something that's mildly annoying. I'm not sure if its just because I've become spoiled by the sensitivity of my main iPod touch, but the wheel on this model seems far less responsive than other click-wheel models I've owned in the past. Even the center button doesn't seem to register on occasion when I press it. And I know its pressed, because one can hear the little click of the button itself. (Not the Nano's speakers, mind you. Just the button!)
Anyone else having this problem? I'll start running my finger around the wheel, and it won't even notice I'm doing it...til I lift my finger off and then start running it over again and then it kicks in.
I'm tempted to bring it in and exchange it for another one, but I'm really not sure if I just need to retrain myself to use a click wheel model again...sigh.

I will say this...I turned the speaker-sound on to check the clicking thing...and when my Nano doesn't react to a center button press...it does NOT make the speaker-click sound. So the button press for me at least does not register on the Nano at all. I'm starting to think I just got a nano with a less sensitive center button...I might just exchange it for another one, or maybe upgrade to 16 GB. The joys of having a brick-and-mortar Apple Store within 10 miles...
And what with my Touch becoming much more a full-on PDA rather than just an iPod these days, I drain the battery on it faster than I thought possible with all the various apps, eBooks and web browsing I do more often now...
So I really WILL be carrying two iPods around with me. Even with the little nano annoyances. Guh. Glad its so bloody tiny...my pockets can't hold much more gear...

  • Lower click wheel unresponsive, reqind button is touch sensitive

I recently bought a 16GB nano from a guy i found on a local classified ad. I thought everything was good, until i started listening to music, and i could only use the upper side of the click wheel to turn up the volume, the lower side is unresponsive. also, when i was trying to turn up the volume, moving by the rewind button would restart the song... its like the rewind button is touch sensitive. the ipod is in warranty, so is it possible for me to go to the apple store and replace it?

    wow, someone help?

  • IPod Touch Sensitive Click Wheel does not turn - HELP!

Can this click wheel be fixed? Has anyone been successful? I'd love to know how and not throw $300 down the drain. Sigh. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Sure! Just do a web search for iPod repair and you will find plenty of places. Here is one that was at the top of a google search I just did...
    http://pdasmart.com/ipodpartscenter5g.htm
$65 for the click wheel part and you can repair it yourself. Or $75 for mail in repair service.
I have no experience or affilation with the above linked store, just found them first in a search.

  • Why Is The New Click Wheel TERRIBLE?

What happened to the flawless design of the click wheel on all previous ipod models.
The new click wheel on the iPod classic is absolutely terrible. It is unresponsive, highly unsensitive, slow and works maybe half the time especially when scrolling counterclockwise.
APPLE, Why the sudden change? I can't even control it through my jeans anymore.
Before you ask any questions, no I am not using any case, my iPod is naked and brand new. Any other iPod I have owned was super responsive and had perfect click wheel sensitivity and worked through my jeans or any case it was in.
I am very unhappy with the new click wheel. Who else is with me?

Well, if it is a defect, which I think it is, it is very common. I'm on my third 120 GB classic. First one had a buku of issues with skipping songs, shutting itself off etc., but the click-wheel was flawless.
Sent that one back to apple, received replacement which had same skipping and restart issues with the added joy of the click-wheel laziness you are describing. Sent that one back, got third unit yesterday, also installed new version of software. Skipping issues and restarts seem to have gone away, but having problems with this click wheel. I'm giving it a couple weeks, and I'll send this one back too. When listening to music, it's not that big of a deal when the wheel goes to sleep and I've got to click it back into action, but while trying to play games it becomes very problematic and unacceptable.
I bought my first ipod second hand and loved it. This is my first new iPod, and it's killing me with aggravation. I have heard before that you should wait until 90 days after any apple release so they can work the bugs out. Seems to hold very true with this experience.

  • How Can I Recover Paid For iPod Click Wheel Games

Well, well, well.  It seems that Apple iTunes had really ****** me off today.  Here is what happened
Recovering iPod Classic Click Wheel Games
Here is my story and at the bottom are my Questions
The hard drive on my old computer crashed and I bought myself a new one.  When I finally decided to put more on music onto my iPod Classic something happened.  iTunes disabled without deleting my $300 worth of iPod Classic Click Wheel Games.  I've called and contacted them for support to no avail.  I believe I forgot to authorize my new computer before putting on my new music.
Just before Christmas I called Apple support asking questions & the man on the phone didn't have very good advice for me.  He said that maybe iTunes could replace the games for me.  So I started looking at iTunes for iPod Classic Click Wheel Games and they were no where to be found.  Apparently Apple had removed them from the store and yet they sell iPod classics.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/30/apple-removes-ipod-click-wheel-games-from-it unes/
After Christmas I tried again to contact them about my iPod Classic to try and have my $300 worth of click wheel games replaced.  While I waited on the phone for an hour while they played poor quality music into my ear giving me sever headache.  I was already frustrated as it is and when I got a hold of someone she I had trouble understanding her.  (I have poor hearing, had a headache and was frustrated)  She gave me advice to contact Apple about the iTunes store.  I called again and got a hold of someone who i could better understand.  He gave me a step by step information which was the same as the last person I had contacted.
Now I sent an email to iTunes store asking if i could get help
All the iPod Classic Click wheel games files were still on my iPod.  Now I needed some way of retrieving the files.  I made a that attempt at contacting apple and they told me that i Could "Check for Available Downloads".  Which was the very first thing I'd Tried.  But these are files which i believe apple only allowed One Download.  I could not get my files from Apple.
Now I sent them a 4th Very long message stating what happened and Asking for Answers for Four Questions.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to Please get some answers to My Questions Which I WANT You PLEASE to Help Me with.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to know.
    1) Is there a way for me to Re-Activate my 2.3gb of iPod Classic Games so that they will once again work?
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid for the files.
I really want to Download these games back from Apple iTunes Or to re-activate my iPod classic games and copy them from my iPod back onto my computer.  It seems that this isn't possible.  If this isn't possible I Am Going to Be very Skeptical about ever getting a iPod Touch or iPhone.  I've already been telling a lot of people about my problem.
So Far Unfortunately for me Apple & iTunes has not been very much help.
Thank You for reading my message.  Please help me with the answers to the 4 Questions
The message which they sent back Has Made Me Angry.  I'm Not going on apple pay per incident Paying $35 for a phone call if they can't send me an email with answers to these four ******g questions.  So I suppose you can tell that right now I Am ****** Off.
Since I sent the first message I authorized my new computer which didn't re-activate me games.
Then I went onto Google searching "how to copy files from iPod to computer."
Which Led me to this website
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/
I downloaded a trial version of Touch Copy
Somehow I managed to re-activate my lost games and copy most of the files back onto my computer using "Touch Copy".
Then I downloaded the last 4 missing files from somewhere else but I'm not posting where i got them.
Now that I have fixed my problem without Apple's expensive help
I Really Want To Know the answers to questions # 3 & 4
    3) Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid $300 for the files.
I Thank You For taking the time to read my message.
    PLEASE HELP ME

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library, recover other media from the device, restore the device.

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
Not really. All ClickWheel games should be locked to the account used to purchase them. If your friend wished to authorize your library that would work. At the time of purchase you were told that you got only one (successful) download of the content after which it would be your responsibility to maintain backups.
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
It will be fine. If you transfer the games into your library they can then be copied to any compatible device where they will work. The key is that the library doing the transfer is authorized to the relevant account when you update the content.

  • Is there a trick to using the center of the click wheel on my ipod nano 5th generation?

I just bought a used (only 5 hrs playtime) from someone and I cannot get the center of the click wheel to pick up my touch very well...it takes forever to scroll thru and its frustrating! Is it normal for it to be that difficult to use or do I just need to get used to it?

It is not normal, there is something wrong with the click wheel.
