Clickboxes in Sliderocket

Hello,
We are using Sliderocket to publish our SWF files in order to track their usage. Despite clicking the setting in SlideRocket to "Allow SWF to handle clicks" when adding the SWF to a slide, it does not work. I am able to embed the SWF and it will play. I am able to click the items in the Table of Contents and the navigation bar, but none of the click boxes within the interactive tutorial work. The really odd thing is that the person who had this job before me created similar projects with click boxes that work, so it's not an issue of trying a different browser or OS. The only different I can see is that she used Captivate 6 and I am using Captivate 7. Could that really be the issue? Is there a setting in Captivate that I need to set when publishing the file for it to work? Has anyone else encountered this issue when using SlideRocket? I can't even find any reference to it on Google.
A related question, without an LMS what are you using to track usage of your captivate projects?
Thanks,
Kitzzy

Hey again Tim
Must say, as a dictator when it comes to quizzing it hurts to
allow the user to see the question and then let him/her go back to
where they should have been concentrating in the first place. But
hey, the client rules
Anyway, in all seriousness, it can be done, but I can only
think of a nasty way so if the following will work for you then be
my guest:
Create a blank slide just before your question slide.
Take a screenshot of your question slide
Use a graphic editor for the screenshot (don't laugh, but MS
Paint is the best thing for this) and copy the "question slide" as
a .bmp image.
Paste the .bmp onto your blank slide and position it if
needed.
Embed the .bmp into the slide background.
Insert 2 buttons on this slide 1 to continue to next slide
and 1 to return to material.
If all this is done properly, the user will not even realise
that they were on a dummy slide.
Smoke & mirrors is the lifeblood of Captivate.

  • Can you have multiple clickboxes on one page

Sorry... a few complicated things are coming up. I am doing a
large project with LOTS of interactivity, which involves simulating
a customer filling in a form and then clicking a button to move on.
So one one page I have both a Text Entry box, and sometimes also a
    click box.
I made the Text Entry box action "none," and put the "go to
next" on the click box action.
Now my boss wants two more links added to each and every
page... a TABLE OF CONTENTS button, and also a NEXT PAGE button.
When I added these two additonal buttons, it seems to be confusing
    Captivate.
This is understandable, as Captivate is probably thinking
"what the heck do you want me to do first."
What I need to know is (a) is it possible to have multiple
Interaction buttons or clickboxes on the same page, each doing a
different thing; and (b) if so... how???
(Secretly I hope the answer is NO because it will simplify my
    life tremendously).
    Thank you, QuizQueen

    Hi again QuizQueen
Of course you may have multiple Buttons or Click Boxes on a
single slide and have each do something different when the user
clicks. It's all in how you configure the Buttons or Click Boxes.
Personally I think it's easier if you use Click Boxes as I
believe them to be more flexible.
Often what is missed is a specific setting. When you look at
the Options tab of the Click Box properties, you should see a
button with a down arrow. This button is located to the immediate
right of where you would type a URL. Click that button and you
should see an option to open the destination in a new window. But
click again and you see another option that is easily missed. This
would be the option to "Continue playing project". That one is
easily missed because it was in a disabled state (grayed out)
initially. So if you DE-select this option, the Click Box or Button
will carry out its assigned action without releasing the pause on
    the slide.
Hopefully that helps you better understand it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can you hide a Continue button until all clickboxes are clicked?

I have seen similar questions to this one, but none seemed to be the exact situation as mine.
What I have: Several images on a screen.  When a user clicks an image it is replaced with another image.  I am using clickboxes for this task.  I do not wish for them to toggle back and forth. Once they click the original image it should stay changed.
What I am trying to do: Once a learner clicks all the images (in no particular order) a Continue button appears that allows them to go to the next screen.
If anyone has some suggestions on this situation please let me know, thanks.

I cannot log in on the forum for the moment, so will try by answering by
mail. I was aware of that problem (have presented those solutions so
often), thought that since you left all images visible once the click box
was clicked it wouldn't be a problem.
    Two possible solutions:
       1. Easiest one: add a statement in the Always decision that will Hide
the click box just clicked. It has no sense to click it another time. That
will mean that you still can do it with a shared action but that shared
action will have two parameters now, the second one being the click box
that has to adapted on each application of the shared action.
       2. If you don't want to make the click box hidden (which means at the
same time disabled), you'll need a user variable for each click box,
starting with a default value of 0, and toggle it in the Decision 'Always'
to 1. The second decision will then need a condition that checks the value
of all the user variables (with AND) and shows the Next button only when
all variables have the value of 1.
Sorry, but have to mail, cannot offer a screenshot in that case.

  • Can I open a new browser window from a movie clickbox

    Hi,
This is a last question from me, I hope. (I'm within a month
of delivery, and my boss keeps saying 'a user's asked for this or
that', but I'm meeting many of their requests with technical
    obstacles. Oh dear.)
Here's the question: From a caption clickbox within a movie,
can I link to a new browser window? (I have a Help button at the
top of my movie and a user tester rightly pointed out that it
breaks them out of their movie and they can't get back. So my only
solution is to open it in a new browser window, but as I'm within
the movie, I need to link to the new window from a caption or
    button, not an html page.)
If a Javascript command would work, could I get the exact
code to put in the box? I haven't been able to get any
    Javascripting to work through Captivate.
If nothing works out, I'll have to scrub the Help button from
every page, but I'd rather be sure before I do it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kim

Hi and thanks for both of the replies.
Phew! I love it when there's a way out of my problem! Is it
my imagination or are the options: Current, New, Parent and Top not
described in the Captivate help? What is the Parent? I would have
thought a window would have spawned a child. And I guess Top is a
new window that's always on top? Is it described in the help
anywhere beside the page I found that doesn't describe it? (I guess
so far, I've been blindly and successfully using Current.)
I assume I can't remove the toolbars on my new windw without
going through an extra link? If that's the case, I can live with
that. I wouldn't want to make the user click two links just for a
    help page.
    Thanks again,
    Kim
PS. No wonder my Javascript never works if I can't even
    notice the options!

  • Clickbox Shortcut Alt + Not Working

I have an application that I am doing some training simulations for. The shortcuts in this app are all based on the Alt key + another. When I enter an Alt+ shortcut on a clickbox object, it doesn't work in Cp5. It had been a while since I had done it, so I first I thought it might be some Windows update or something; but I went back and started with a fresh Cp4 file and a fresh Cp5 file, added the same objects and shortcuts, published to swf and indeed the Cp4 works and Cp5 doesn't.
I had originally sent this as a bug (~2/22), but have not received any response. Does anyone know if there is there a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    David Whipple

    Good News:
I received a response from the guys at Adobe.
    Bad News:
The response from the guys at Adobe.
"The problem is with actionscript 3. It does not send “Alt” keydown messages to event listeners in actionscript inside browser. In actionscript 2, there was a utility class named “Key” which has since been removed in Actionscript3. Using “Key” class we could determine whether “Alt” key is down in AS2. Now we have don’t have those means."

  • How do i make a zoom work when I click a clickbox or button?

    Hi (I'm using Captivate 5.5)
What I currently have is a screenshot of anti-virus software and I want the user to click on specific parts of the image to activate a zoom to see the text better.  I'd like to have several clickboxes or buttons for the user to click on to active the zoom area then hide the previous zoom boxes so there aren't loads of zoomed in areas on the screen at the same time, can this be done?  I've tried using the hide/show function on one click box to show the zoom function but the zoom has already loaded with the slide and when I try to hide the zoom function again the zoomed in area won't disappear, I've also tried putting a white box over the zoom area but it still comes through....help!!
    What I want is:
Clickbox or button - User clicks - the zoom function appears and zooms in
Clickbox or button - User clicks different area - the previous zoom disappears - the new zoom area loads and zooms in
    etc....

    Hi there
I've done this before and it's quite fun. (at least it is to me)
What I did was to use different slides. So you have one slide that has all the different hot areas that may be zoomed. Each area is hot by virtue of a Click Box object that points to a specific slide. Then on the slide where the click leads, you insert the zoom area. That slide will also have a button or click box that allows your viewer to return to the original slide.

  • Using clickboxes and not getting response to display

I'm building a scenario and have 2 standard objects that I'm using as buttons.  I created 2 clickboxes --1 for each item with the correct/incorrect response path.  When I preview/publish, the correct response will work, but not the incorrect response.  What am I missing?

If you were intending to have the user continue clicking the same locations on the screen repeatedly to get either Correct or Incorrect feedback, then you might be looking at a situation that would suit the Event Handler widget:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/event-handler-interactive
It has Preference settings that allow you to Disable Continue (thus remaining at the same frame on the timeline) and Reset Success Fail Criteria after Action (thus enabling repeat clicks and feedback captions).

  • Issues with "Add to total" with multiple clickboxes on a slide

I've seen similar posts, but can't find any with this exact issue. If this has already been solved, please point me in the proper direction.
I'm creating a quiz project that includes both application (click boxes and text entry) and question slides. The scoring should work such that if the learner gets the question correct on the first attempt, they get 2 points; on the second attempt, 1 point; and 0 points on any subsequent attempt. The way I've implemented this (using clickboxes for example), is to put 3 clickboxes on the timeline for each slide. The first is set to 1 attempt, with 2 points and "Add to total" selected. The second is set to 1 attempt, with 1 point and "Add to total" NOT selected. The last is set to infinite attempts, with 0 points and "Add to total" NOT selected.
When I bring up the Advanced Interaction screen, it correctly shows the total number of possible points for the project (2 per slide.) However, when I get to the results page of the quiz, it shows 3 points per slide in the {max-score} field, which obviously screws up the perfect score. The incorrect total is also shown in the Quiz Settings dialog under "Pass or Fail", where I can set a specific number of points required for passing.
Has anyone run into this behavior before? I can find anything that I've configured incorrectly in the individual slides or in the Advanced Interactions dialog.
Thanks so much for any help!

    Hi Ryan
Bugs are filed using the same form where we also submit product suggestions. It's called the Wish Form. This is also the best way to alert Adobe to a problem as it's a channel they are tuned into and are listening there. Sometimes we see Adobe employees visit here and occasionally answer a question or two. But largely it's user-to-user support.
Link to the Wish Form/Bug Report is in my sig line as well as sprinkled around the Captivate forums in sidebars where we moderators can add things.

  • Captivate 5.5 Clickbox

    Hello All,
I have observed that a clickbox inserted from Captivate 5.5 with the following settings would result into a paused project.
    Action
              On Success: <URL>
                   URL: <url> New (window)
                         (unselected)Continue Playing Project
    Options
(Selected) Show Hand Cursor Over Hit Area
(Selected) Pause project until user clicks
    Options
           Rest of slide
Whereas in Captivate 4 above settings would result into a project playing then will only pause when the end of slide is reached.
Is this part of the changes made in Captivate 5.5?Are there workaround (in Cp5.5) to make it behave the way it does in Cp4?
    -Miguel

    Hi there
I'm not sure I fully understand what you are asking here. You seem to be describing a difference between Captivate 4 and 5.5. You listed what your settings are but didn't explain the behavior you see. So you seem to be comparing half of one equation to the results of a different equation.
The thing is, if a Click Box is configured to pause the project, it does just that. And I belive in Captivate 4 as well as 5 Click Boxes pause at the end of their play time.
Both versions support opening URLs. Both versions support opening the URLs in new windows. I'm not sure if the "Continue playing project" is enabled or not by default in 5.5. I recall that in 4 you had to specifically configure it. (I really do need to break down and install 5.5 - LOL)
The net result with either version is that depending on the options (which you get to configure) the behavior is to pause the project when the Click Box is encountered and the playhead reaches the pause point. Then open the URL when clicked.

  • Search and replace a clickbox for a transparent button?

Is it possible to replace all click boxes for transparent buttons in a project?
Why? Because you can style a transparent button. You cannot style (as far as i know) a clickbox.
    Ton.

LOL, so Transparent Buttons aren't really what you want. Well, technically they may be, but you really don't want an honest to goodness transparent button.
Because you will need to re-create the functionality of the button, I might think it would be simpler to just add either a Rectangle Drawing Object or a Highlight Box and layer it over the top of the Click Boxes. But that's just me.
No, there is no functionality I'm aware of that will magickally transform all Click Boxes to Transparent Buttons. But nothing is stopping folks from requesting it via the Wish Form.

  • Rollover and clickboxes

Does anyone know whether or not it's possible to use a
rollover image and a clickbox on the same spot? Have tried
everything I can think of. Basically i want to move the mouse over
a drop down menu, see the desired area highlighted, and then click
it. Can't seem to get all these steps onto one slide.

I have found no direct way to do this, though I have found an
    indirect way.
Create a blank captivate presentation, I usually use the
smallest setting I can but you may want to make it the size of your
other movie. Set up one slide with the text and the rollover
images. Publish this as a swf and import the swf into the main
movie. Add your click boxes, make sure you put them behind the
animation though or the rollovers probably won't be visiable

  • Multi Clickboxes on Single Slide: Pause Movie, Play Audio

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 5. At the end of each module, I have a slide with several clickboxes on them. Ideally I want the audio to continue play (9 seconds) while users can click on each option multiple times (except for the one that jumps them to a different slide). In some cases, as below, I want a text box to appear, which I've set up using Advanced Actions.
Currently I have all the clickboxes with "Continue Playing This Project" de-selected. I also have "Pause project until the user clicks" de-selected for all of them.
All the clickboxes appear at the beginning of the slide and continue until the end.
There is a hidden clickbox that ideally should pause the project at the end of the slide until they click the Forward button. For that one, I have selected the option "Pause project until the user clicks" and have the pause time set up at the end of the audio.
Right now, if a user tries to listen to all of the audio, and clicks, the project continues to the next slide after the first click. If the user begins to click before the audio is complete, then the audio stops and the project pauses.
I have already tried the following:
If I select "Continue Playing This Project", the audio plays fine, but the project moves to the next slide after the first click.
If I try to stagger the clickboxes on the timeline and select "Pause project until the user clicks" for each clickbox, the project, and therefore audio, stops at the end time of each clickbox. The user then has to click the Play button.
If I stagger them on the timeline, and de-select "Pause until the user clicks", they are disabled too soon, and the user can't click on them multiple times.
    Can I make this happen?

You won't be able to get this to work as you wish just by using the default Actions available in the dropdown lists.  Except for the button which is supposed to advance the movie, you need all the other ones to continue in a paused state while the user clicks around.
To achieve this you'll need to create an Advanced Action for each of your buttons or clickboxes and select this action as what the button executes when clicked.  In each advanced action, have the first statement do what you originally wanted, and then add a second statement that assigns the value of the system variable rdcmndGotoFrame with rdinfoCurrentFrame as shown below:
This should ensure that your movie remains paused on the same frame when the advanced action is executed.
There are lots of tutorials on doing this kind of thing with Advanced Actions on Lillybiri's blog: http://lilybiri.posterous.com/
And I also highly recommend Rick's Gooberguides on Advanced Actions.

  • Captivate 6:  Issue with clickbox opening URLs

I've finally made the leap for an actual client project to 6.0 (usually only do client work on 5.5) and am gutted to have run into quite a perplexing issue. It's a bog standard piece of work.  Simple conversion of a client storyboard (all their ID) into a captivate module.  There's no audio.  It has a couple of widgets in it to allow playing of hosted video and drag and drop games and a pile of advanced action stuff, but nothing exceptional.   Client has no LMS, but is hosting it on a sharepoint.   We've set it up so you can only get to the screen the 'click to start next module' once you've completed the module (the client's request).
No issues at all in our development testing.  No issues in our small group user testing.
We've now gone to our final user testing (about 30 users in various locations worldwide) and four of them have the same issue:
    - They click on the button at the end to launch the next module and nothing happens.
It's very frustrating for me because I can't replicate the issue at my end, and because of the way the contract is set up I'm not allowed on site, nor to contact users directly, so am having to trouble shoot via email with single point of contact middleman.
It is a simple click box, with an open URL function.     It works fine for me.  It works fine for 26 out of 30 users.  It point blank doesn't work for 4 out of 30.
It's a SWF output to flashplayer 10.     All users have IE7+ and Flashplayer 11+
I've rebuilt the clickbox slide from scratch once.  It is on top.  It works for me.   It still doesn't work for this small number of users.
Undertandably, the client is reluctant to go-live to 800+ global users with that kind of test fail rate.  (Weirdly all the risky stuff like the video and the drag and drop works fine on the affected users!)
    Yikes!  Any ideas?

Hi Rod, thanks for the reply.  Like I say in the post because of the way the contract is set up (I'm arms-length subcontracting for the physical training provider) I'm not allowed on client site, nor to contact users directly, so am having to trouble shoot via email with single-point-of-contact middleman.)  The arrangement is every bit as frustrating as it sounds, but is what it is.
So I am taking their word for it.
That said, I've no reason to doubt them as the same issue has been reported independently from different physical locations, and all the test users will have managed to find their way sucessfully through far more complex functionality before they get stuck at that point.
I know that from time to time when you run flash locally you can have problems launching URLs unless local flash player settings are updated to allow it - is there any network level equivalent that a company (or even local machine) may have in place that could cause the same behaviour?   Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • Clicking a clickbox hyperlink will advance slide

    Captivate 6
I'm using buttons to navigate through the presentation here. Each slide is 3.1 seconds; after 3 seconds navigation buttons will appear and pause the presentation. To prevent skipping slides, I've removed the included playback controls in the theme editor thing. So during the slide, users can click on a clickbox I created to open a URL in a new window. The clickbox exists until end of slide so the it still works while the page is paused. Most of this is actually not important.
The issue I'm having is this: if 'Continue Playing the Project' is checked then clicking the link while the page is paused for navigation will unpause it and advance the slide. So a user can be pushed to the next slide before they're ready. Clicking the link while this option is unchecked will pause the presentation and can prevent the navigation buttons from ever appearing. Apparently the clickbox must set state to 'pause' or 'play' and cannot simply preserve the existing state.
Can anyone point me to a solution?

I've been using this program for like two days now so I'm probably the one that's misunderstanding, haha. Maybe a fresh explanation will help?
I'm not really going for a video here, I'm basically aiming for a powerpoint presentation (since that's what we're replacing) where you click buttons to navigate through slides. Navigation on its own works fine; buttons can navigate through slides and I can hide the buttons until a certain amount of time has passed.
Unfortunately, since the entire project operates on the same time instance, the link object I've got here can misbehave in either of two ways: it can pause the entire presentation before navigation buttons are enabled and strand the user in place, or it can advance the slide prematurely and take the user away from the slide they were on before they were ready. It can either set state to 'Play' or 'Pause' and can't just preserve the state that was already there.
Currently I'm messing around with the advanced actions, trying to say basically 'if it's paused, open the URL and pause it; else, open the URL and play it' so if anybody who is more familiar with the commands can help, that'd be appreciated. I've got:
    if cpCmndPause = 0:
      Open URL in new window
      Assign cpCmndPause = 0
I'd expect this to, if it's playing, open the URL and keep playing. Instead, nothing happens. Am I doing this wrong?
(Thanks a lot for suggestions, everyone! But unfortunately they solve a different problem, I think. I'm sorry if my description of the problem wasn't clear enough.)

  • 2 separate clickboxes each with a separate response

I guess I didn't explain the problem very well.  I am trying to do a check on learning.  To respond to the scenario I want the student to click on the correct response.  I created 2 objects for permissible and non-permissible.  I also created a clickbox for each oject.  Object 1 and clickbox 1 response = correct.  Object 2 and clickbox 2 response = incorrect.  If I want to select the incorrect response to check feedback the object and clickbox don't respond to display.  Are you telling me I can't have more than one object on a page with a clickbox?

I do not get the explanation quite well, am not a native English speaker. Could you post a screenshot of the slide and of the Timeline, with both click boxes selected? And tell which version you are using.
