Clicked restore instead new ipod in itunes

I purchased a new ipod touch and while setting it up in Itunes clicked restore instead of new. Now its not transferring the files onto the new ipod properly. and just stalls. I also had to update the Itunes in order for it recognize the new device.

And whasy is your question?
Try closing iTunes, force close if necessary, disconnect the iPod, and rebppt the co puter.
Then try again. If necessary to allow the restore,
- Reset the iPod.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Plave the iPod in Recovery Mode
At what step (Description) did it freeze?

Restore from backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iTunes backup you iTunes purchases have to be in the iTunes library. You can redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Netiehr the iTunes nor iClouod backup included non-iTunes purchases.

  • I'm trying to restore a new ipod but it keeps asking me for the passwords of itunes accounts that are not mine.

It is trying to restore my new ipod from the backup cloud, but it keeps asking me for the passwords of three different itunes accounts, two i know are my friends accounts and I don;t even know whoose the third is.  I must have some of their music on my library or something, but it won't backup without these passwords it seems.  Is there a way to get around this?  I have the music in my Itunes library and can listen to it all I want and burn it on cds but I cant get it to go on my ipod without their passwords.  Can i switch it and just have it sync to my computer and not this icloud?  My other ipod didnt ask me for these passwords when I tried to sync it.

If you have music that was purchased on different iTunes accounts than the one you use, then you must provide the password, otherwise the tunes are not considered yours.  You can turn off iCloud and just use the usual USB sync method.  But I wonder whether you'll have the same problem?

  • Please help me restore my new ipod 3.1

Okay, I just had my Ipod replaced under warranty. I got home, and reading the directions it said I have to update itunes and download the latest ipod updater. ( This is for windows, BTW).
I downloaded the itunes update just fine. Went back, I think I downloaded the updater fine too. But when I open the updater to restore my new ipod, it says "ipod service error". What does this mean and how can I fix it?
The updater I downloaded was 2006-01-10.
Thank you for any help, this is driving me crazy!!! After one defective ipod and now this, I just have had a really bad expeience. Much obliged, Sean

Update: I just spent the last hour or so uninstalling, and reinstalling iTunes and the iPod updater, as per the link above.
I did this because, as the webpage suggests, I opened windows task manager and ipodservice.exe was not in the list.
So I cleaned up all the old iTunes stuff reinstalled iTunes, exatly as per directions. I went back to task manager, and ipodservice.exe was there. A good sign, thought I. I then went on to download the ipod updater. I restarted computer, and guess what? Still the same "ipod service error".
I am going to try some other things suggested on the webpage, but I still really need help.
At this point I don't know if it's my computer or what, bu tI can safely say that if I had the chance to do it over again, I would NEVER buy an iPod. I have become a slave to a $250 piece of metal and plastic. I've spent hours and hours of frustrated work, between this problem and my defective ipod. Thanks a lot, Apple.

  • I need to add my new ipod to itunes. it will only show the old dead ipod. i want to keep the music, but get rid of the info of the old dead ipod and add my new one and its info. please help.

    Hello,
I need to add my new ipod to itunes.
itunes will only show the old, dead ipod that my niece had given me secondhand.
I just got a new one and want to put in it's serial number, etc. but keep the music.
Please help, I've been going around in circles online for hours. I don't want to merely change the name of the old ipod, which is the only info I can find.
    Thanks.

"In addition, I would like to get all of the music files that are already on my ipod on to my new computer"
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.
Once the music from your iPod is in your new iTunes library, you can go about adding new music as you did previously.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Problems Restoring 2nd Gen. iPod w/ iTunes 7

Hello. I recently noticed that my second generation iPod was skipping songs and freezing a lot. I decided to do a complete restore to see if that would fix the problems. I connected the iPod and (using iTunes 7) went to restore the iPod. Once it downloaded the latest version of the iPod software, iTunes said it was restoring the iPod. I figured it would take a while. So after about 40 mintues I figured it had frozen or something so I unplugged it with the intention of restarting the computer and trying it again. However I guess it was still working because now when I try and turn the iPod on all I see is the apple logo. The computer will sometimes recognize it however it states that "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupt. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." When I click restore it tells me there's an error and it cannot finish restoring. So in retrospect it was stupid to unplug it. Is there anything I can do at this point. It isn't under warranty or anything and there would be no point in shipping it off to Apple (for that money I could just get a new one). Any suggestions? Thanks.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have been having the EXACT same problem with my 3G, and it started with the iTunes 7, iPod updater 1.2 updates. Be aware that there are MANY others out there on this forum with the problems you are having... too many for me to believe that we all just happened to experience an iPod meltdown in the same way after the same iTunes update.
Anyway -- this morning I did a software update on my iMac, and now when I connected my iPod I did get the computer to recognize it. After reading that many others were having issues with the latest software, I did a restore on my iPod using the iPod updater from June of 2006, not the new one. (Try looking under Applications-Utilities-iPod updater to see if it happens to still be in your computer. If not, you can download it from Apple's site.)
I did successfully do a restore, but now I have connected to iTunes and am trying to reload all my music, and am not able to do so. It's stuck on one song, and I'm afraid to cancel it because this is what started my troubles a week ago.
But at least my computer recognizes that it is an iPod again.
I just wish Apple would post some solutions to this -- rather than letting more people like us download their bad software updates and kill their iPods.

  • Can't change songs on new ipod in iTunes

I just went from a first gen iPod to a 5th gen, and I notice that I used to be able to edit the pod's playlist in itunes. Now, when I try to go directly to the new ipod's playlist, everything's greyed out. It's there, but greyed out. What's this all about? I want to have special playlists on my iPod. Thanks!

"when I try to go directly to the new ipod's playlist, everything's greyed out. It's there, but greyed out"
Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to access the iPod directly, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos. If you want to manage it manually then connect your iPod and click on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • DFU Restore brand new iPod Touch

I was thinking about buying an iPod touch and wondered, If I did a DFU restore before I activated and set it up, would it still give the option to register the device for a warranty after I restored it?
I want to make sure I'm running the latest version of iOS when I set it up.

Just curious why you can't wait to update it after you activate the iPod. I am not aware of iTunes saying that an iPod is already registered since one can change the registration of an iPod. If you found an iPod on the street you could connect it to iTunes and restore it to factory defaults/new iPod and use it yourself.
