Clicking an image opens another InDesign file randomly?

Hi --
We're fairly new to DPS and are working on our first issue of our first magazine here in our studio. I'm noticing an odd thing happening, and I'm wondering if anyone has any explanation for it.
Say I'm working on a folio, we'll call it feature2...and when I click on an image in the feature2 folio (I should note that the image i'm clicking on in feature2 has zero interactivity added to it using the overlay creator panel), it will open up the feature1 InDesign document.
Has anyone had this happen and know what's causing it?
Thanks for your time! Looking forward to contributing and gaining a lot of useful knowledge from this forum! I've already downloaded the DPS tips app on our studio iPad and can't wait to show everyone!
Kristina

I already startet a thread about that: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4040090
Seems to happen when the object is pasted from the other document, right? There are reports in the official indesign forum as well, but I don't know what to do about that. I just rename the file and that surpress the bug from showing up.

  • Opening an Indesign file from server slows down [very urgent please]

    Hi All,
    I have a book that is already paginated. (Every indesign file has hyperlinks targeted to the another indesign file (paragraph Anchor destinations)).
    After few days the server was crashed due to some network problems.
    Now a new server has been created with different name and path.
    If I try to open the indesign file it takes much much longer time than usual, For the same file if I disconnect the network connection it is working as usual.
    What is the cause of this? Is there any way to overcome this issue or any work around? At the same time I need to retain the hyperlinks also. Because it is very very difficult to re-create the links (more than 100 or 200 number of links will be there in every chapter).
    Note: I have tried something like trashing indesign preferences. It is also not working.
    Thanks,
    Green4ever

    I restored all my indesign file in the same folder structure except the root folder. I already tried the way you suggested. It is not helping me.
    "I thought that may be Indesign is searching for the missing links" So I try editing the preferences so that indesign will not search for the missing links(I think it is only aplicable for graphic links is it?). After that also I am facing the same problem.
    Is there anyway to open the indesign file without checking for missing hyperlinks. So that it may open faster.
    Thanks,
    Green4ever

  • Content generation error. Failed to open the InDesign file.

    Hey all -
    In importing an article to a folio, I just received this error:
    "Content generation error.
    Failed to open the InDesign file. Please confirm the file can be opened in InDesign."
    The file is open right now in InDesign. I can close it and reopen it with no errors.
    I've tried resaving the article to a new file. No help.
    I tried creating a new folio and importing the article there. No help.
    All links are good. It's a simple file with images, a scrolling pane, and some buttons that link to other articles.
    Anyone else run into this problem? Any solutions?
    Thanks!

    Im getting this error also....?
    Want to avoid inporting each artical on at a time. Need to import multiple articals at once.
    Thanks.

  • Acrobat 8 Launches when opening an InDesign file

    I have recently upgraded to Acrobat 8 Pro and Indesign CS3.
    Everytime I try to open an InDesign file by 2x clicking on it, Acrobat launches alongside Indesign, and Acrobat throws up an error message. How can I get this to stop? And why is this happening?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    I have had this exact problem for like 6 months and have just dealt with it, but it's really starting to drive me crazy.
    Double clicking on all INDD files launches Indesign AND then Acrobat. Acrobat gives me two error dialogs which I then "OK", and then I'm able to switch to Indesign and work on the file. Dragging-n-dropping the files direct into Indesign or Opening through Indesign works fine. I've also noticed Indesign does not offer up the usual "open recents" in the file menu.
    Acrobat and Photoshop are the only CS3 apps that appear in the "Open With>Choose Program" dialog, and browsing to the Indesign executable does not fix anything. The indd files even display the correct [ID] icon.
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.1
    Adobe Web Premium CS3 (which I believe technically the Acrobat install is from)
    Adobe Indesign CS3 5.0.1 (bought separately from Web Premium)
    I'm sure it's probably more of a Windows issue than Adobe, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I tried to "repair" the Acrobat installation but that didn't help. Reinstalling all my Adobe apps is something I would like to avoid if possible.

  • Move group of pages from one InDesign file to another InDesign File using VB.Script

    Dear team,
    I am trying to move group of InDesign pages from one indesign file to another indesign file using vb.script.
    I have written the code like
    Dim Pages=IndDoc.Pages
    Dim Mytype=TypeName(Pages)
    Pages.Move(InDesign.idLocationOptions.idBefore,IndDoc1.Pages.LastItem)
    but it is giving an error as method Move is not a member of Pages
    please give mme the solution to move the Multiple pages or a group of page from one Indd to another Indd.

    Hey Peter, if I wan to move several page that part of Auto Flow text, I checked the "delete page after moving" but the content still there, not deleted.
    Is there any way to delete it automatically, just to make sure I have moved that autoflowed page?

  • How to place an indesign page with hyperlinks in another indesign file, such that the links work?

    I have a page of text with hyperlinks in a master indesign file.
    I place that file into another indesign file.
    (It is like an html include file for a webpage.In this way i only have to update the file in one place.)
    But when i export the indesign file to pdf, the hyperlinks fail to work.
    They work in the original but not in the second.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Abby Eagle

    My apologies. My tests were done using URLs. They function in Acrobat regardless of their state in InDesign.
    Aside to Bob: Since I had just made a PDF that worked, I mistook your "Since when" to mean since when won't a placed ID file work? I guess I was blind sided by the fact that the only hyperlinks I ever come into contact with are full URLs.
    If Abbey's situation is as I envisioned -- that the placed files are more akin to smaller graphics within the layout of a page rather than discreet pages at all -- then is this not a insolvable problem given how InDesign works now?

  • How to open an InDesign file without .indd extension?

    I can open the file from InDesign's File-> Open menu item. But if I try to open programmaticaly it says the file format is not supported.
    I tried using SDKLayoutHelper::OpenDocument and IDocumentCommands::CreateOpenCommand both gives the same error.

  • Opening old InDesign files

    I can't open older InDesign files.  Can anyone help?

    We upgraded to new computers recently, and we re-installed InDesign on the new one.  I can create new files, but I can't open older files.  I use InDesign to create a newsletter, and I use the same basic template for each one.
    I get a message that tells me to update my plug-ins, or to update to the newest version of InDesign.  I tried downloading those things, but it didn't work.

    Hi all,
    Has anyone got a script to allow an .exe file to open another .exe file? If so, I could sure use the help.

    You can use fscommand("exec") to run a batch file to open an exe - but exe is a Windows executable, not for Mac OS

    when user clos the document , it will check it in.
    the problem there is no sufficent sample code for, even was thinking to use Adobe Drive, but there is no Adobe Drive SDK for Flex.
    i used to fuse the sdk, but
    private function getFileByPath(sPath:String):Fileable {
    appStatus = ">> get File By Path";
    message = "";
    viewEnabled = false;
    var request:GetObjectByPathRequest = new GetObjectByPathRequest(session);
    var oFileable:Fileable;

    request.execute(onSuccess, onError);
    function onSuccess (event:GetObjectByPathResponse) : void {
    oFileable = event.object;
    //var oDoc2:Document = new Document(event.object);

    Dear Seoras
    i fixed the to return the cmis path:
    public function resolveRemotePath(file:File):String
                                  if (file.nativePath.indexOf(LOCAL_FILE_CACHE.nativePath) != 0)
                                            return null;
                                  var remoptePath:String =file.nativePath.substr(LOCAL_FILE_CACHE.nativePath.length);
                                  trace("resolveRemotePath [11] : "+ remoptePath);
                                  if(File.separator!="/") {
                                            //var pattern:RegExp = /(\/)/g;
                                            var pattern:RegExp = /(\\)/g;
                                            remoptePath =  remoptePath.replace(pattern ,"/");
                                            trace("resolveRemotePath [22] : "+ remoptePath);
                                  return remoptePath;
    i have another issue, why everytime update the generated pdf it creates new pdf file with same name in the cmis repo .. does the pdf is not updatable over the cmis service ???

  • Can anyone help me open these InDesign files?

    I've been trying all day to open files for a project I was working on in March with InDesign.  I could open them in March but now my computer is either crashing from trying to load the folder that contains the files, or it gives me one of two error messages.  The first saying I don't have permission to open the file, the second saying the file is already open with another user.
    I have tried opening from my computer and from an external drive, neither work.  I have tried restarting.  I've tried opening as a copy, original and normal.  I've tried opening InDesign as an administrator.  I have tried phoning Adobe and have been on hold for 25 minutes so far.  I have tried the online help but nobody available there.  I don't know what else to try.
    I can create a new InDesign files and I'm not having any trouble with any other Adobe products.  My subscription is until 29th August.  Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Angs

    If you open it in a plain text editor, what do the first few lines look like? If there's no lock file, the next most likely cause for this error is that the files aren't really .indd files.

  • Tutorials in SWF output format prompted "Do you trust this content to connect to the Internet?" when opening another SWF file

    Please help.
    I have a tutorial with in the output format of SWF and HTM. I have click boxes that On Success will open another tutorial (SWF file). When I click on the click box, I get prompted “Do you trust this content to connect to the Internet?” by the Adobe Flash Player. I can click “Yes” and continue, however I don’t want the user to get prompted for every click box with this action (there is one for every tutorial and navigation buttons to each tutorial). I also think that SCORM can't handle the prompt, because when I run the tutorial from the LMS the click boxes do not work at all.
    I have tried selecting “Always allow” in the Global Security Settings panel as per the instruction on this website: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    I wanted to add on a question to this posting.... I believe Rod's instructions must be followed on a per-PC basis, correct? Is there any way to disable this globally when/after I publish the files rather than telling 1000 users across the globe that they have to change their security settings? I don't think so from the article (very thorough) but just hoping there's something I can do?!
    Thank you!

  • Get a PDF when opening original InDesign File (CS4) to update it.

    I need to update an organizational chart MONDAY MORNING if I want to look really smart at my brand new job I started last week. The problem--I have located the orginal file that was created in InDesign CS4 by my predecessor. When I double click on the name to open the file I get a PDF. I cannot edit it very well and in in the time frame I will have to do it. Besides, I need to edit the original documnet. How do I do that? I did not create the origianl so do not know if there are locks etc. I need to figure this out before tommorrow at 6am or it will not look good for me...So far I have been blowing them away. Can't start looking stupid this week when I looked so smart last week! If I can't figure thei sout..I amy have to figure out hwo to correct teh PDF...which as a rememeber form a past experice is nasty and takes much longer. Thank you.

    If you double click it in Finder or Windows Explorer and it quacks like a PDF, then that's what it is. The operating system is ignoring the extension and opening it with the correct application; Acrobat here.
    This may be an intentional sabotage, or an inadvertent mistake, perhaps caused by the previous worker who had deleted the original ID file and thought that perhaps renaming it as PDF would cover the problem.
    In Acrobat or Reader, File > Properties > Description will tell you the application that made the PDF. The Additional Metadata button may tell  you who made it - or at the login name of that user. These won't fix anything, but may help you find someone with more info, like the named person.
    With your experience, it might be most efficient to place the document into a blank InDesign file on a master page if it's only a single-page document, or on the document page, then create a new layer on top of that, lock the PDF layer, and use it as a template over which you re-draw and re-type what you need to reproduce it. It's possible that a table was used to create the original - if so, create a table in a text frame atop the PDF, and resize columns or rows, and merge or split cells, etc, as needed.
    To view your progress, hide the PDF layer by poking the eye of its layer in the Layers panel.
    As mentioned, PDF2ID is a commercial product that can do the conversion. I believe there's either a free trial download or they'll convert your file for free to show off its strength.
    [EDIT]
    It's possible that the PDF was made by converting a chart from a dedicated charting application, even something like PowerPoint or the equivalent in the free OpenOffice (aka NeoOffice on Mac.)
    Naming it .indd might also have come from inadvertently including it in a batch file rename operation.
