Clicking centre button switches off ipod

Hello.
I'm on my third Nano. Both previous models were exchanged by Apple due to a common fault: selecting the 'Music' option from the main menu by pressing the Centre button shuts down the ipod.
Now the problem is happening again.
Is this a known Nano fault?
I've tried restoring the ipod, but this is, at best, a temporary fix. After a few hours the problem recurs.
Sometimes, the problem is limited to when 'Music' is selected from the main menu. Other times, it occurs when the 'Podcast' or 'Playlist' option is selected. Sometimes, simply pressing the 'Menu' button (on the wheel) causes the same shut-down.
Suggestions (or feedback on how widespread this problem is) gratefully received.
Merci.

  • Shuffle button turns off ipod

    Hey everyone,
I have a 3rd gen. ipod shuffle. Every time I switch over to shuffle it turns of the ipod.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Id say an update or restore will help. Download and install the latest ipod updater 06-28-2006 here on your PC http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Open the iPod updater, connect the ipod to the PC and hit the update button, If the update button is grayed out or if updating the ipod does not fix the issue, try hitting restore, restoring the ipod wipes it clean of everything, then you use iTunes to load everything back

  • Disable or hide "Switch off forwarding" Button

When enabling forwarding in the Lync Client - a prominent placed Button "Switch off forwarding" (or something similar - I don't have the exact term  displayed in english) appears with yellow background.
Is there ANY way to disable or hide (prevent from appearing) this Button?
Is there a Server Setting? A Group policy Setting? Client or Server SDK? Any other idea?
    Thanks a lot,
    Michael

    Hi,
Agree with BenDonaldson. It is impossible to disable it when enabling call forwarding.
You may need to custom your own Lync client, you can post the question on MSDN Lync SDK forum. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Centre button will not work... again

i thought it was resolved... and that it was a small glitch... but the centre button is not working again. any suggestions?
    below is my previous post:
all of a sudden... the centre button on my ipod nano 4th generation device is not working. the updates are up-to-date... and i have since restored the system back to the manufacturers setting... and now i am stuck at the language menu... asking for me to choose a language. but i can't choose anything because the 'select' (centre) button does not work.
    any ideas??

i did contact apple support and they are sending a replacement... using the serial number on the back.
though i may have found the culprit. i put my ipod in my friends stereo/ipod player so i can charge up... i left it there for about 30 minutes... and both times when i unplugged it, that the centre button is stuck.
for both occassions... that i repeatedly pressed the centre button (probably about 50 times) and it finally worked.

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

  • Can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button

can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button?

Okay, I apologize, belay my last posting :/
This evening after a whole day of working fine (again), I had the same problem, but this time my idea couldn't fix it.  One point I'd like to make is to NOT listen to your ears when troubshooting your ipod.  When your ipod is turning off, try tuning into the radio.  Mine tells me that it isn't recognizing my earbuds and won't even turn on the radio.  I'm going to try to clean the connection out, but really?  This is freakin' new, Apple people!  Maybe its a way for the company to make you purchase new accessories for the ipod they replaced with the recall :/

What am I supposed to do next?

    - What happens when you turn the iPod back on?
    - For a 1G and 2G Pod, erasing all contents and settings can take hours and you need to have it connected to a chargings source.
    - You may have to place the iPod in recovery mode and then retore via iTunes.  For recoverymode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • Debug mode switches off after clicking button

    Hi there,
I am trying to use Debug Mode in order to track down a problem, but when I click an application button on a page Debug Mode is being turned off so I do not get the debug output that I am after.
In brief, I am doing the following:
    1) Editing the page in Application Builder
    2) Clicking the "Run" button to run the page
    3) Clicking the "Debug" button to turn Debug Mode on. The page is then redisplayed with debug ouput among the page items.
    4) I then type some text into some fields in a form region and click a button in the same region to create a record. The same page is then redisplayed but Debug Mode has now been turned off!
I then tried something similar using the example ORDERS schema under a different workspace and username, and this time Debug Mode remained switched on until I switched it off explicitly.
Is there something I have to do to keep Debug Mode switched on?
    Regards.
    John.

    John,
The branch defined on the page determines whether the current setting of &DEBUG. is used in the URL redirected to. Normally, that wouldn't be set. You'd have to edit the branch (and make it an f?p URL with &DEBUG. or YES in the debug position.

    Hello Wontsey & Welcome
On 6-4-06 I installed Norton Internet Security 3.0.1 for Mac. I thought maybe my problem was related to the firewall part so I unistalled it and turned the Apple firewall that came with the computer back on.
This did not help. In fact, when I try to open “Help” from the desktop menu the program opens and then immediately closes so I can’t access it.
I hate to have to tell you this Norton is the problem, looking into uninstalling it, the uninstallers that came with it are not effective so no matter you do not have the CD/DVD go to their site to get the Uninstaller
UseCocktail or OnyXto find the invisable files. Just follow Macjacks directive.
This is covered in this Topic thread, abandoning Norton Internet Security see the files Macjack speaks of in the topic thread. If you have questions post in the same forum a new topic this thread is archive, click on the link and then click"back to topic list". This is why i first came to Apple discussions, to get help with the mess Norton can make on Panther and found help as you will. It is not a Safari issue per say, rather a Norton problem.
    Best of luck.

  • Click wheel still clicks after iPod  switches off!

    Hi
is it normal that the Clickwheel still makes clicking noises (if touching) after i switched the iPod (5g) off.
I also own a Ipod nano, where this does not happen!

Does it do this after it has been off for 10 minutes?
Also, the iPod doesn't completely turn off for 36 hours.

  • I upgraded my iphone 4 OS yesterday to ios 5, today morning my phone is not working, i am not able to click any button and also its not allowing me to switch off the phone and restart. Anyone having similar issues

i upgraded my iphone 4 OS yesterday to ios 5, today morning my phone is not working, i am not able to click any button and also its not allowing me to switch off the phone and restart. Anyone having similar issues?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

You mean that you have put the iPod's Hold switch on, then off, and then press-and-held both the Menu and the Select (centre) buttons together for at least ten seconds.
Have you made sure the iPod is charged?
If you have tried the Restat procedure (above) three times, have you then tried connecting the iPod to your iTunes Library?

  • Ipod nano wont switch off

I have a 4g ipod nano. I went away for a month and left it at home unused, only to find when I got back it now wont switch off when I hold the middle button of the click wheel and stays permantly on. I have tried to restore and reset it, and yes, the hold button is off.

    Welcome to discussions
Well first, you're supposed to hold down the "play/pause" button to put the iPod to sleep. Try that and see if it works.
If that doesn't work, press and hold the select and menu button at the same time until the screen goes black/blank. This is a soft reset of your iPod. Your music will be safe.

  • IPod switches off completely instead of sleep or deep-sleep

    Hello,
I searched in this group and other sources but found no help.
My iPod (4th generation with click-wheel) works well when i hear music. But when I pause it switches off completely after 1 minute. it can only be awaked with a reset (buttons menu & enter). But then he forgot the position of last song or audiobook. It seems not possible to put him into normal sleep or deep-sleep mode. Even if I switch it off by hand, it can only be brought back through a reset.
I use the current software and did a recover, this didn't solve the problem.
    Does anyone know this behaviour?
    Thanks a lot,
    Michael

    Hi,
yes, I found a solution in the meantime!
After I had the effect the first time I backed all the music & calendar files from the ipods directories to my local harddisk. After installing the ipod firmware I played back the files - and had the same errors.
My last solution was to format the ipod harddrive and after installing the firmware again I did not recover the backed up files - and since this time it works well again.
I had to freshly import all my mp3's with the itunes software but that was woth it.
    HTH,
    Michael
