Clicking curved reply arrow in status column produces blank message window

I have a bunch of messages in an On My Mac mailbox for which clicking on the curved reply arrow in the status column opens a blank message window with the wrong title. Something has obviously gone wrong with the links.
Is there a way to fix this?

Let it be recorded here that the solution is to quit Mail, remove the "Envelope Index" file from ~/Library/Mail, relaunch Mail and allow it to import all of your mail. The solutions posted elsewhere about rebuilding the sqlite3 database with the "vacuum" parameter aren't sufficient. I've also discovered that changing the return address associated with a particular mail account will break the links between messages and their replies.

  • Mac Mail (Lion) clicking on reply arrow does not open up the reply

In OSX 10.5 in mail, after I have repolied to an email, an arrow appears to the left of the email. When I click on the arrow, it opens up the replied-email. a great feature. Now I have OSX 10.6 (Lion) and the feature does not work.   nothing in the preferences points to that feature. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks Jason, I had the same problem and did exactly the steps above. Problem solved! You rock! :)

  • No reply arrow/icon shown after replying to messages in Mail.

I've seen a number of discussions on this topic but I still have not found a solution.
When I respond to a message in one of my Google Apps (IMAP) accounts, sometimes it will show the reply arrow/icon next to the original message but most times it will not. The other weird part is that it only happens in one specific mailbox. Other than my iCloud mailbox, I have three Google Apps IMAP accounts, but this specific mailbox is the only one that has these inconsistencies. The only time i can get the arrow/icon to show is when i'm replying to one of my other two Google Apps accounts. The message always goes through, it's just that it doesn't show the reply arrow/icon and it's very frustrating to have to go to the sent mailbox everytime just to see if i have responded to a message.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.2. and Mail version 5.1
I've already tried the following to no avail:
    Rebuild the maillbox
    ReIndex the entire mail.app
Deleted the cache folder in /Library/Caches/Mail
Deleting the mailbox and readding it
Repaired disk permissions and restarted computer

Try actually opening message and clicking reply icon to respond rather than right clicking on message preview.  I have had same bug (which Apple should fix all the same), but have found that if you open the message as its own discreet window, then the "replied to" icon will appear.  Hope this is helpful

  • How does Status column in Execution Window get set?

Thanks to Jonathan for the reply to my last post.
I have a couple of inter-related questions on step-types.  I understand the difference between a Pass/Fail step type and a Numeric Limit step type is that the code module being executed in one case returns a Boolean whereas the code in the other case returns a numeric.
I looked at the "Edit LabVIEW VI Call" dialog for a LabVIEW Pass/Fail step type and I noticed that the Boolean passed by the connector pane went to "Step.Result.PassFail" in TestStand.
Q1. What exactly is "Step.Result.PassFail" called?  Is it a "Parameter", a "Variable", or simply the property of the "Step" object?  In other words, how would I refer to it in a discussion?
Q2. If it IS a parameter, then when I use the expression browser in the "Edit LabVIEW VI Call", why do I see ANOTHER object (at the same level as "Step") called "Parameters"?  I do realize that this "Parameters" object does not contain anything until run-time.
From the viewpoint of a sequence itself, eventually each of these steps (Numeric Limit OR Pass/Fail) lead to a Passed or Failed (or Skipped) result as we see in the Execution Window.
Q3. I assumed that that result in the Execution window is tied to "Step.Result.PassFail".  Is that true?
With that in mind I studied the "Status Expression" for a Numeric Limit Test and this is what I found:
    CheckLimits(Step.DataSource == "Step.Result.Numeric" ? Step.Result.Numeric : (Step.Result.Numeric = Evaluate(Step.DataSource)), step.limits.high, step.limits.low, step.comp)
Q4. There is no mention of Step.Result.PassFail in the expression above.  Why not?  In other words, how does the comparison with limits get translated to the Status column in the Execution Window?
    Thank you.

    Hi 2and4,
Answer to Q1: Its a property of the Step or Result, depends where you are referencing from. If you are unsure then quote the lookup string eg "Step.Result.PassFail".
Answer to Q2: You are probably referring to the Parameters which belongs to the active sequence you have displayed in the sequence editor. Its empty because you have no Parameters defined in the sequence. Try this, in your active sequence, select the Parameters tab. Insert a Parameter, it doesn't matter what it is. Now view the Sequence Context by the Expression Browser. You should now is a + sign next to Parameter. Expand this and you will see you Parameter you inserted.
Answer to Q3: Yes, the actual result or status is in Step.Result.Status which is a String. This can be "Passed", "Failed", "Error", "Done"
Answer to Q4: If you look at the Status Expression for the PassFail step, you will see it has a different expression. The PassFail doesn't do any limit checking. If Step.Result.PassFail is True then the step passes and if False it fails. It's that simple.
    I hope this helps.

  • Reply arrow in message status missing

When you reply a message an arrow appears next to the message indicating mail has not only been read, but replied and if you click that arrow you can view your response.
This usually works fine, but I wrote an e-mail yesterday responding to one I had received and the message was sent, recipient got it, but the "reply arrow" never showed up. Message appears as read, but not as replied and I can not link to the response from the original message.
Is there a way of "linking" two messages (Inbox and Sent) to tell Mail, this e-mail is the response for this other e-mail?
    Thanx in advanced!
    Francisco

I'm wondering if this problem isn't related to the number of messages within a single thread. In Classic Mode, as you suggested, the "replied" arrows appear for individual messages within the same conversation among many people. But in the Lion 10.8.5 OS that groups messages by conversation, then subgroups them by date received, only the most recently received message appears in the column for received messages. If you'd replied to other messages within the same conversation but not to the latest one, then no "replied" arrow appears.
Then I made a key discovery: the grey rectangle displaying the number of messages within that thread is clickable. I had always presumed that the tiny, white arrow pointing to the right was only indicating the right-most column as containing the body of the message. But clicking on the grey rectangle releases a drop-down list of all the names of the participants in the thread. The "replied" arrows display next to each sender's name on that list, if you've sent a reply to their email.
For me, problem solved. I hope that helps someone.

  • In mail when i send email it does not show curved arrow in sent column

    Mac osx 10.7.5, 27" imac i3, 8gb 1333 mhz ddr3
in mail when i use the reply button the curved arrow in sent column appears intermittently.
prior to upgrading system from snow leopard (3 months ago) it worked normally.
after installing lion it continued to work normally but now it occurs constantly.
I have opened & quit  Mail, restarted the mac several times using both shut down & restart commands, and unplugged the power cord from the mac.

No changes have been made and no problem with extensions has interfered with the URL appearing in Firefox before. Only with the last few new versions of Firefox has this cropped up. Also, the link opens correctly - it just doesn't display the URL in the address bar, instead it just reads (in gray) "Search or enter address." How could another extension interfere if Firefox is the sole program associated with .htm, .html files?

  • Mail in Lion no longer opens my reply clicking on the arrow

I used to check what I replied to a person by clicking the little arrow that is shown next to a replied-to email in the inbox.
Now clicking this arrow does nothing. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

Is the WD drive plugged into the Mac directly or into the Airport??
If it is in the airport.. unplug it and plug it back into the Mac.. you cannot use Disk Utility on remote drives.
The WD could be dead.. Disk utility should show you.

  • Mail w/Exchange 2007 Account- Reply arrow appears, but reply not found

    Hello out there,
I'm really hoping someone can help with this. I have a problem, and it affects all three of the Macs I regularly use: an iMac at home, a MacBook on the road, and and iMac at the office. I have three mail accounts configured identically on all these Macs: Gmail, MobileMe, and an Exchange 2007 account, which uses the Web Services Edition. In short, everything is completely up to date all the way round. Oh, and I also use an iPhone which accesses my Exchange account for mail as well.
My problem is this: I reply to a message in either the MobileMe or the Gmail account and presto, the reply arrow appears and clicking on it instantly reveals my reply. Works as advertised. In the Exchange account, the arrow also appears, and shows up on whichever Mac I happen to be using. However, clicking on the arrow I get a message that says something like "reply not found, you may have deleted it." Which, of course, I haven't. If I search the Exchange account's sent mail folder I find it easily, so I know it's there.
I've tried all kinds of stuff, deleting the plist file, completely removing and reinstalling the Exchange account, rebuilding folders, all to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? I would really like to resolve this and find it a major flaw, at least as it appears, in Apple's implementation of Exchange server support.
    Thanks in advance!

I have 10.6.3 running on my iMac and the problem still exists - all reply and forward status arrows are basically inert; clicking on they does not show my my reply or forward. I don't believe that there is any preference that affects this behavior so it can only be some kind of bug.

  • If you don't get the 'Replied' arrow after sending?

Does it mean there was a problem sending the email, if the grey, curved arrow doesn't appear next to the message you are replying to (even if the email then appears in your Sent folder)?
Message was edited by: Steve P.

I posted this in response to another matter: [*Little reply icon has stopped showing replies*|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11051794#11051794| Little reply icon has stopped showing replies]
but think this is more likely to be my problem. \[NB: using Mail 3.6 (936) \]
If I use the Reply button(s), compose the message and then Send it, the Reply is correctly linked to the original email with the 'little reply (arrow) icon'. I can later click on this icon to directly open its Reply.
If however I Save the Reply (to Drafts) and later resume editing before Sending it, this thread linkage is (irritatingly) not made.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I close the Reply composition window or not, Saving it still loses the linkage between the original email and the reply.
As a result it becomes much more difficult to link up reply threads.
This seems to have been a problem with various versions of Mail from at least OSX 10.5.6

  • Why doesn't reply arrow find my reply?

When I click the curly arrow which should take me to the reply that I typed to an email, it tells me what it can't find the reply and that I may have deleted it.
However, when I check in the Sent mail folder, there is my reply. Why can't Mail find it?
I have rebuilt both the InBox and Sent Mail folder, but it still doesn't find it.

    Hi Ernie
Thanks for your replies. I meant to say yesterday too Thanks for the Welcome - I've been here before too, but when I came yesterday I was required to re-register - some change in the forums I guess?
Yes, I did run under Panther, and for some of my mailboxes under Jaguar too.
I've looked in all the various folders in the ~/Library/Mail/ folder and frankly have been puzzled by what I find.
Yes there are other files in some of them, that obviously aren't being used now as the modification dates are not recent, so I'd assumed that the various updates to Mail along the way have made some files redundant. Can these files that aren't either info.plist or the Messages folder be safely deleted?
I also can't see a consistent way that the various folders are setup and named. There are folders outside the Mailboxes folder that seem to be being keptup and current, but they don't seem to match all the accounts, nor the folders in the Mailboxes folder.
For example I have 3 AOL accounts handled by IMAP. In the Mail folder two of them are identified as "[email protected]" and "[email protected]" but there isn't a folder named for my primary AOL name RogerKIWI.
In Mail.app all three IMAP boxes have the same grey world icon, and are similarly named [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] so why aren't the folders in Library/Mail similarly named? Yet apart from the oddities of not always being able to open Replies it does all seem to work.
I've put a screen shot showing the two folders contents here
    http://LisaAndRoger.com/Mailboxes.png
I'm wondering if "starting over" might be the way to go - if I make a duplicate of my Mail folder so everything is saved, what would I need to keep in order to not have to set up my Accounts, Rules and mailbox hierarchy in place, then import the messages into them in the hope that from now on this "show me the reply" button will always work.
Is the information about the Replies kept with each message, or is it kept in a central data file somewhere? What does the "Envelope Index" file keep track of?
    Thanks

  • The Status Column, what is it for?

What data goes in the Status Column? Can I edit it?

    I don't know exactly.
I have one book where it says 'loan', which is sort of true, and a couple of others that don't say anything.  One is public non-DRM, the other bought.
Just double-clicked the loaned book, and the status correctly changed to 'expired'.
I doubt you can edit it.

  • How to disable right click option re-size on table column header?

    Hi All,
Please let us know how to disable right click option re-size on table column header.
The issue is that when I right click on the column header, the column is selected and the context menu with options like Sort, Columns, Resize Columns, etc.. is popping. we want to disable column  re-size option.
We are binding the table values programatically (not using Bc4J) and the Jdeveloper version is 11.1.2.2
    Thanks in advance,
    - Vignesh S.

    Hi Gawish,
    Thanks for the reply.
This will make the particular column frozen and only work for that particular column.
My use case is that to remove the resize columns option from the context menu or to disable the right click option.
Making column selection as none will disable the right click option but we need column selection for sorting.
Is there any other way to achieve this?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Vignesh S.

  • Fixing the "find reply" arrow

All of the sudden Mail would no longer find the reply message when I clicked the little arrow that showed I had replied. No errors about not finding the message. (I get that on one account, no idea why.) Clicking just did nothing. Restarting mail did nothing. So I rebooted, and now the feature works again.
I thought only Windows PC's had to be rebooted.

    Try a reset ..
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Rename approval status column

    Hi,
Is it possible to rename the approval status column to something else? The approval status column is added when you tick the manage content approval check box under advance setttings under document library.
    Thanks

Yes, I see that you are correct. The Approval Status column is not available on this list. To edit the display name, you can do the following:
Edit one of the columns, other than the Title column (e.g. "Created by")
In the address bar, go to the end. You will see the name of the column (e.g. For created by you see: &Field=Author)
Change the column name to "Approval%20Status" (e.g. &Field=Approval%20Status). Hit Enter
The Change column page should load. Change the column name as needed. Click OK.
