Clicking + for a new tab gives an error message.

After updating to Firefox 32 yesterday, any time I click on + to open a new tab, I get an error message: XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: about:newtab
Line Number 116, Column 47: .....
Why?
I can enter a URL or search a topic and everything works as it should.

hello, this is caused by the acceleratetab addon that you have installed. please go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > addons > extensions'' & disable or remoe it.

  • When I click for a new tab, the homepage is Search Yahoo...I never changed it to that. And I don't know how to get it back to Google. Help? Please!

But when i open up Firefox, it does bring me to the firefox start up page, but if I click for a new tab it brings me to Search Yahoo

Firefox's behavior is to open a blank page when you open a new tab. Your issue is most likely caused by one of the add-ons you have. Please see here: [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • When clicking for a new tab suddenly yahoo and pogo come on instead of google

Finally got rid of yahoo and pogo when going online but whenever I click on a new tab, they both come back

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

You can middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.

  • Clicking for a new tab brings up yahoo search instead of google as usual. What gives?

I always use fire fox and google is my home page. Today when i click to open a new tab instead of opening a google search page it opens a yahoo search bar. Google is my only search engine and I have no yahoo add-on. I have even blocked the site and it still pops up.

The "usual" action when opening a New Tab is to display a '''blank page'''. Something you installed changed that action, and it may not have the Yahoo name, so you need to figure out which addon did that change.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • When I click for a new tab this window now opens ... "chrome://nspdlmsd/content/newtab/newtab.html" - I want it to go back to being a blank page.

    As above.
For the past few days now, whenever I click 'open new tab' in firefox it opens immediately at the url posted above. I did, unsuspectingly which is how they get you if you are not careful, installed MySearchDial but removed it completely through add/remove and start/search. I even have new windows opening up with content I do not like at all ... my home page is the same again, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get my new tab to open in a blank page again (btw at the bottom of this 'chrome' page there is an mysearch.com icon - I have googled 'how to remove this' with no success).
I do not use Chrome and do not have it listed as one of the operating programs on my computer. However, when I start/search "chrome" there is a complete list of files and folders that are found and I am unsure if I should delete them all since many of them appear to be directly associated with Firefox. Please - this is frustrating ... what can I do to get rid of this garbage on my computer?

The "MySearchDial" app needs to be removed in 4 places.
    1) Go to "add / remove programs" in your windows control panel select mysearchdial and remove it.
    2) Open your Firefox browser then click the Firefox tab at the top left and select options. You will need to change the start page settings back to your preferred start page.
    3) Again under the Firefox tab select "add-ons". In the add-ons manager you will need to remove mysearchdial from both "plugins" and "extensions"
    4) In your search bar (top right of address bar" use the drop down menu and select "manage search engines". You can restore your preferred search engine and remove mysearchdial from the menu.
This should remove all the components of the nuisance hijacker and restore your browser back to your preferred settings. If you are comfortable with a more in depth removal I would also suggest going to your "programs" folder within the "C" drive of your machine and deleting the "MySearchDial" folder altogether. However, only do this AFTER you have uninstalled it from your system and if you are familiar with this type of removal.

  • Can I disable double-clicking for a new tab?

I would prefer to minimize the browser window by double-clicking next to the open tab (and don't really have a use for tabs, anyway). However, with the way it's set up currently, I have to be very careful when double-clicking the window, making sure the curser clicks above the tab area or it will add a new tab instead of minimizing. I cannot seem to turn off this functionality in any of my preferences or toolbar options and do not have administrative rights to upgrade to the newest version of Firefox. Is there a command I can type into the location bar to hide or disable this?

You can minimize the window that has focus with Command-m.

  • How do you now, double click for a new tab? Used to be able to do this before that last update

Prior to this update, you could double click next to a tab, to open a new one. This functions, seems not to work anymore.

If you have "Tabs on top" and the tabs bar is at the top of the toolbar then there is no empty space to click on to open a new tab.

  • When I click for a new tab, how can I make it open with google as opposed to it being blank?

The new tab always opens (untitled) with no www address. I would prefer it to open with google but cant find this option.

  • New tab w/Firefox error message pops up every time I go to a web site

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins then such a message is likely a scam and you should never respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.
*Only update Firefox via "Help > About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
*Plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • I have the little plus sign for a new tab, but when I click on it, it won't open. I can't get any additional tabs open.

I can also right click on the "new tab" sign, and click on new tab and still I can't get a new tab to open. Never had this problem before.

iirc there is a compatibility issue with the Ask Toolbar, and I think your Sytem Details indicate you may be using that, try disabling or uninstalling the Ask toolbar to see if that solves the problem.

Since uploading Maverick, all of my Microsoft apps give an error message "(name of the app) quit unexpectedly.  Click Reopen to open the application again."  However, this does nothing but renew this window.  I have to click on the "OK" button to get rid of the error message.  What to do?

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?

  • How do I set the home page for a new tab?

How do I set the web page for when I open a new tab? Whenever I open a new tab it goes to an error site which freezes my firefox browser for a while. How do I change that? I want to open new tabs with google being the home page. I need to set up the homepage for a new tab NOT a new window. Please help! !

If Google is set as your Homepage in Firefox you can middle-click ''(push down on the mouse wheel)'' to open Google in a new Tab.
Or, you can add the feature to Firefox where clicking the New Tab button on the Tab Bar opens your Homepage in a new Tab. <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/
And if you have a different Homepage set, this extension allows for any page you set in the extension's options to open when you use the new Tab button. <br />

    Launch iTunes on the computer.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer

  • The only way I can open a new tab is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY?!?

The only way I can open a new tab in Firefox is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY don't the other means work?

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
