Clicking link doesn't open new tab

Clicking a link in e-mail (MAC Mail) will open FF and direct to page, IF Firefox is closed. Fine.
However, if FF is already running, clicking the link only brings FF to the forefront, but does not open a new tab, nor does the link populate in the current tab window. The only way to make it work is to right click to get the "Quick Look URL", then open that page.

Justin,
I just took your observation and rolled back Firefox to the previous version 31.0. That fixed it! Might want to give it a try.

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • In the previous version of Firefox you would open a new tab by clicking on the small "Open New Tab" button at the Right Hand Side of the Tabs. This button has now disappeared in my upgrade.

I just installed Firefox 4. In the previous version you would open a new tab by clicking on the small "Open New Tab" button at the Right Hand Side of the Tabs. This button has now disappeared in my upgrade. Firefox help still says you can open a new Tab by using the "Open New Tab" Button so how do I get it back??

I got it back by going to "customize toolbar" and hitting "restore default set"! Now there is a small tab next to my open tabs with a "+" on it.

  • Firefox won't open new tabs when I click, also he doesn't open new tabs when I use CTRL+T. Any solutions?

When I want to open a new tab, firefox doesn't do it. The problem is the same when I use CTRL+T. So I can't open any new tabs.
Nothing seems to work: restart the pc, closing firefox,...

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar'''''. It can cause that problem.

  • Clicking on External Link in Safari Opens New Tab

I think it has to do with one of the preferences I've set within Safari but I just can't put a finger on which one.
Basically, I reinstalled Yosemite 10.10.3 on my MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2013) about a week ago. And then I tinkered with Safari preferences.
Since then, whenever I click on an external link, for example, an email address, Safari opens a New Tab instead of launching my Mail app.
Not sure how to do undo this.

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Default email reader: Mail
If you don't use Mail, you may be able to set the preference in the mail client you do use.

  • Mouse wheel click doesn't open new tabs correctly?

Since upgrading to FF4, whenever I mouse click a bookmark on my bookmark toolbar, it will open a blank new tab with the URL in the address line, but will not load the page. I have to select the URL in the address line and press enter, or press the green arrow button. Shouldn't web pages automatically load once I mouse wheel click on a bookmark?
    any suggestions?

Alan McClean has alluded to the cause of this behaviour but I think others would benefit from a full explanation because it doesn't appear to be documented. I might add that Business Objects support were no help at all on this (they suggested I had a problem with my mouse, PC or network which I don't).
Normal response to a mouse double-click on a document name in InfoView XI3:
The double-click action performs the default action on the right-click list. This is the option you see in bold when you right-click on a document name. The default action is 'View' document. So when you double-click on the document it opens for viewing.
In CMC, under Applications>InfoView if you set 'Default viewing action on listing page:' to 'View the latest successful instance of the object' then the double-click behaviour changes:
The double-click action now tries to open the latest successful instance of a document. I found that any document in my Inbox or any document with instances (e.g. scheduled report) will still open for viewing using the double-click. For any other document the double-click fails silently. I assume this is because there simply isn't a latest instance to open.
    Conclusions:
    1. Don't use the 'View the latest successful instance of the object'. I have reset my CMC setting back to 'View the object'.
    2. I think Business Objects should change the double-click behaviour so that rather than fail silently it opens the document.

  • Hello- I would like to have new pages open in a separate tab automatically...(i.e., Google--- Google listing---click on listing-----auto open new tab and put the page of the google listing that I selected, on the new tab. Thanks. RMartinez

    Hello again-
    Here is my scenario-
I am browsing, and let's say, I'm on Google. I look up "albatross novels." I get 6 hits. I look at the list, and I pick one of them. I double-click on it, and away we go. My current Google search page is REPLACED by the selected "albatross" site. But it's not exactly what I want. So now I click the BACK ARROW to go back to the Google page, to look at the other 'albatross" hits. And now I find another site, replacing my Google page when I open it......And THAT site takes me to another site, and another, and yet another......But then I realize that the first site WAS the best one. Now I have to hit the back button 15 times and probably NOT reach the Google page from which I started.
But if I could have the new pages open in a new tab, then I could go back and forth between all the pages without worrying about the back button.
I am sure that this is just a setting change somewhere, but I can't find it....I do have it on my work computer.
    Thanks/Rod Martinez

  • Double clicking or clicking anywhere in Safari opens new tab with Mackeeper and other unknown websites.

The solution provided in the other discussions are not working for me. The 'vsearch' solution given in other discussions doesnt work.
I dont know what I have downloaded but now whenever I type anything in safari or click or double click then a new tab opens with mackeeper link and other unknown websites.
    Thanks in Advance.

You may have some other adware besides Downlite (aka VSearch). In addition, you may have a newer variant of Downlite, which is using a variety of new names after having the last two variants blocked by the anti-malware feature built into Mac OS X.
Your profile indicates you are running Mac OS X 10.6.7, in which case you will not be able to use dominic23's suggestion (AdwareMedic requires 10.7 or later). Apple's support document on removing adware may help, but you'll find a more complete list of adware in my Adware Removal Guide.
You may also have a variant of Downlite that is not described in any of these documents and that is not yet recognized by AdwareMedic. I believe that there is a new variant that uses a variety of different names based on unknown criteria, either defined by different installers or determined at install time by some characteristic of the machine that it is installed on. Look in the following folders:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
If you find a file named "com.xxx.agent.plist" (where the "xxx" part can be anything) in the first folder and files named "com.xxx.daemon.plist" and "com.xxx.helper.plist" in the second, please report back here for further advice.

*Do NOT check any boxes when entering Safe Mode, just click to continue
*If it works in Safe Mode, then an extension is causing the problem and you must determine which extension.
*To exit Safe Mode, click ''Firefox button > Exit'' OR ''File > Exit'', wait a few seconds (10-30) for Firefox to close completely, then use your Desktop icon to start Firefox.

  • It doesn't open new tabs or windows when I click on then. it gives a problem loading page quite a bit, what's wrong?

When i open it it takes a long time to open, when I go to mail, or other places. it opens a Server not found

If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
All this when I click on a button or do a search in Fire Fox.
It seems like I have to play with it to open anything.
I went back to the normal Fire Fox and it's still happening.
I sometimes have to restart my computer to get the buttons in the mail to show up or Face Book to work right.

  • Windows 8.1 Clicking links doesn't open Firefox

I am using Firefox as default browser on Win 8.1 system. Clicking on links in any program (Thunderbird, Skype, Acad Hlep file etc) does not open in browser. It doesn't matter if browser is already opened or not.
Firefox is set as default browser, I tried to set it through firefox options, Control Panel and Charms.
I changed the default browser to IE and it works, seting things back, it is not working again.
I am talking about desktop programs as I mostly do not use Metro versions.

    Hi nejc74,
Thank you for contacting support about this. If no links open in Firefox for Windows 8 when it is the default browser and then they worked in other browsers as default.
If you install the nightly version of Firefox does this issue continue? I can only test in 8 unfortunately. If you can reproduce this consistently I would highly recommend creating a screencast and sharing this in a new bug. I am happy to help with this.
I use jing, because it allows me to share the url:
[http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html] If you set that up and publish the video of trying to open a url after setting the browser default to Firefox this will be very helpful troubleshooting information. I look forward to your reply. And if you find other bugs with 8.1 as well I encourage you to join bugzilla.com :-)
    Cheers

  • FF was updated automatically to FF12 version. After that doesn't open New Tab. When i trying to open new tab, allways opens NEW WINDOW!!!

    Described in troubleshooting Information section.

according to your submitted information you have a plugin called "DictionaryBoss Installer Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows" installed on your system, which sounds rather phishy. can you link that to any software you've installed intentionally?
try to uninstall all toolbars from tools > addons manager > extensions and from the windows control panel & see if the problem persists.
you might also want to give your system a full scan for malware with the free tool from [www.malwarebytes.org].

When i click on the open new tab button it will open in the same tab in the same window and you cant go to any website and the website on where on's address is still in the address bar.
Right click a link and select open new tab most of the time opens new window with long pause.
I have tried everything to fix this even re installing windows, but the problem persists after re install as i think its attaching itself to my Microsoft account.
I have disabled all add-ons run virus and walware scans reset IE to defaults removed and re-installed IE all to no avail!
