  • How do I set Mail to launch clicked links in Safari, rather than Firefox?

I have both Safari and Firefox installed on my computer. Safari is the default browser, but when I click a link on an email that I have received, Mail opens it in Firefox. This happens even if I have Safari open and Firefox closed. In that case, Mail opens Firefox and then displays the location of the link. I can't find an option in Mail settings, to set the default browser for clicked links to Safari.

    Great news Matt, thanks.
Likely it was done when you installed Firefox, it asks if you want to make it the default browser.

  • Tired of Clicking and Re-clicking links in Safari to get the page to load

I am so TIRED of having to click and re-click links in Safari to get pages to load. Sometimes the page will begin to load, but will "hang" and I'm forced to refresh (or hit return, or re-click the link, etc.) in order for the page to load properly.
    Can anyone help?

I have been going through this as well - and the losing connection issue.
After uploading the new airport update, Apple help had me do some resets (the power manager and the PRam I believe) and it seems to be working well.
On the other hand, it has worked well at times before and then fell out of wellness... I hope this does the trick.
It is crazy to be dealing with these issues on a macbook.
I HOPE it's not that on the Core 2, the fact that the N is hacked off unless you pay 1.99 isn't making this buggy. That would be a very bad thing on Apple's part.
Just give us full use of the card on the machine from the get go. Not a partly working version. To me, that's suspect in this issue.

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Stop outlook from starting when clicking links in safari

In the past I used to work with Outlook for Mac (my former company worked with Outlook).
For a couple of years I switched to working with the Mac Agenda, Mail, Contacts, etcetera.
But whenever there is a link in Safari for opening an agenda, or a contact, it is Outlook that is being opened and not the native Mac programs.
How can I change these setting, I've looked but am not able to find this option.
I've got Outlook still on my Macbook because I have to maintain a backup of the email of the former company.
Outlook is set to not be the standard for Mail, Agenda, etcetera so this is not the solution (unfortunately...).
My laptop is up to date, so I'm using all the latest software versions, except for Outlook (this is the 2011 version).
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Try this:
Open MS Office Outlook 2011 for Mac  >>  Preferences  >>  General tab  >>  uncheck  Set Outlook as default program for email, contacts and calendar.

  • Clicking on links in Safari does nothing

Running OS 10.8.5 on desk top iMac.  Lately, today, have found that clicking ona link in Safari does nothing.  Simply stays on the same page I was viewing.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Have to repetitively click links in web pages to open  in Safari

I notice that in Safari I have to click links in web pages multiple time to get them to open. I watch the progress bar to see if it is loading and look to see if the circle is spinning and it is not. I can wait for a while and still nothing so it is not me being impatient. It does it just about all the time on Facebook and it really seems to go nutz when I click links that are pictures. I constanly empty/clear my cache/cookies and run Onyx to clean up the system and still no luck. The system is completely up to date and has snow leopard 10.6.5 I even put new mouse batteries in just to rule out a clicking problem with it. It's like Safari just does not respond and has to be told twice or more to get going. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks that might help.
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome......
Login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there.
If you experience the same problem, launch Disk Utility /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then select the FirstAid tab. Click: Verify Disk
If Disk Utility reports errors, follow the instructions at this link. You will need your install disc. Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Also, check System Preferences (Applications folder) - Universal Access. See if you have any accessibility features enabled, in particular, Mouse keys under the Mouse tab.

  • After mistakenly clicking a link, my safari does not open automatically and unexpected webs open up.

I am using MacBook Air with Yosemite OS. After mistakenly clicking a link, my safari does not open automatically and unexpected webs open up. Could you please give me suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thank you

That's a bit vague, but you may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Clicking an e-mail link in Safari doesn't open default mail client

Eudora has been my default mailer for many years. Yet after the last Safari update a few days ago, the browser suddenly ignores Eudora's default status although it is clearly checked in Eudora's preferences. Instead, Safari thinks Mail is my default mailer. So I dutifully open Mail--I never use it--and check its preferences, which mysteriously assign it as default mailer. I change that setting to Eudora. And the next time I try to click an email link in Safari, Mail pops up again as the default mailer. If I check both email client preferences at that point, both are still set to be my default mailer even though I changed Mail to NOT be so.
How do I make Safari/Mail stop overriding my setting of Eudora as default mailer?

    HI,
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If you can set the default Mail app, move the .plist file to the Trash.
Also, from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.

  • Sometimes have to click links twice in Safari to load a webpage

Does anyone else have an issue where you have to click links more than once to get them to open a page? What happens is I will click on a link in Safari and it will start opening a new page and then stop. It even happens with links in the Bookmarks Bar. Then if I click the link again it will go through. Any solutions to this?

I have this same problem, it just started a couple of weeks ago and now the majority of sites I visit require the double click.  It doesn't matter whether they are in my favourites, returned from a search, or entered in the URL search box on Safari.  It's really frustrating as I don't have the problem on my iphone for example if I click simultaneously on the link in favourites on my iPhone and my Mac - it's only a problem on the Mac.
    Has anyone solved this?

When I click on a specific link in Safari on my Macbook Pro, another link opens. How do i fix this?

    Likely malware/adware.
    First try
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac
    Next:
Adwaremedic: Removes all known adware from your Mac
If you can't download it since the malware is preventing it then see:

  • Automate Safari: Filling in Fields and Clicking Links

I did a search, and found an old post of mine on this topic! Still not resolved.
    I have:
    Action 1: Launch Application
    A2: Get Specified URLs
    A3: Display Webpages
A4: Click Link or Button in Current Webpage
Since my user and password are auto accepted, when automator brings up the specified url, it automatically logs in and kicks me into the home screen. From there, A4 fails. I want it to click on "My Projects". There is a tab at the top that links to it. "My Projects" is also listed on the same page 2 other times, one of which is a link to "My Projects" as well. How would I get Automator to work properly in terms of telling it to click "My Projects"?
    There are two options:
html link with TEXT or ID. There is one area in the source code that lists the ID, but I copied and pasted that in there and nothing. The screen that is brought up is such that it errs - cannot find the link.

Nope, doesn't fly. The thing is, when I add a second "Get specified url", it doesn't link it to the last flow, so it is like having two separate workfolows. It just shoots it up in a new page. That is fine, since my login is saved for 14 days, so by just entering in the final url of where I want to be, I only need one "Get Url" action in there. BUT, I want to be able to start the flow from the beginning (i.e. homepage, login fields filled, press login button, then click link on screen after logging in to get to "My Projects", then click link on following page called "Add Project"...).
