Clicking noise on the ring around Touch ID

When the display is on and a finger is put on the ring around touch id it makes a faint clicking noise. It has a higher frequency if just the edge of the ring is being touched than if the whole touch id surface is being covered. Really can only hear it if it is close to your ear.
here is what is sounds like:

Hello there xxxRKxxx,
From the symptoms you provide and the way it sounds in the video example you provided, this really seems like a hardware issue to me and you may want to look into having someone take a look at it or send it in for service:
iPhone Other Repair Options - Apple Support
On the other hand, if you feel this is a software issue I would backup the phone to iTunes and then restore it as new to test if his happens on a fresh install with everything at factory default.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

i have an ipod touch 5th generation (ios 7.0.3) it is 32 gb and it is still in warranty i have a clicking noise in the top left of my screen does that matter. it has been in its case for a long time and hasnt been scratched or damaged.thx for awnsering my question.

    Rattling
On the 5G iPod and iPhone 5 the rear camera lens moves to focus and is lightly suspended so it can move. The noise you hear may be the lens moving. It is normal and expected.
If concerned, Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Clicking noise from the screen moving

My Phone is making a clicking noise on the right hand side of the screen, the movement of the screen cannot be seen but it can easily be felt. ive seen this as a problem before from other questions and how most cases have been sorted, however my phone has scratch marks on it, not from being dropped, just from a set of keys in my pocket! :/ will my phone still be covered by warranty to be replaced?

No one here can speak for Apple about what they will do. They'll examine it and make a decision nor do we have any idea what they will think.

  • My iMac makes strange clicking noises on the back of it

It makes some random clicking noises on the back of my iMac that just irritates me alot. What is wrong with it? I purchased it like 2 months ago and I don't think it's a virus or anything. Can anyone help?
    Thank you

    Hello:
I suggest you take the computer in for diagnosis.  Strange noises are not normal.
Incidentally, there are NO viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - NONE.

  • Equium A100-147 - Clicking noises from the HDD

For a while I have had clicking noises from the HDD and when the laptop failed I assumed the drive had packed up but when trying a replacement nothing happens. I get a blue light for battery and a (faint) blue light for DC supply but nothing for power or disk. However, when I connected an external drive yesterday it booted fine and when I disconnected it the laptop continued working from the internal drive. But again this morning it is dead and cannot boot. I have read that the BIOS can stop recognising the drive or maybe the settings are not being saved when it is turned off. Could it be the motherboard battery ?

If I understand you right your notebook is death now, right?
I really don't know what to do. Remove the battery and HDD and try to start notebook. if the same happen again it is time for new notebook.
I don't think repair is best option because it can be pretty expensive. Satellite A100 is pretty old notebook and you can sell it on eBay. Someone will need it for replacement parts.
Maybe my opinion sounds stupid but I don't know if you have time to search for new parts. I cannot say for sure but there must be some serious problem when you cannot even enter BIOS settings or see anything on the screen.

  • My MacBook Pro 13 inch makes a clicking noise from the hard drive and can not start up in safe mode and normal. I then ran disk utility in recovery mode and disk utility shows no problems with the hard drive. What is the problem?

Please help me, I have a mid 2010 Mac book pro with a toshiba mk3266gsxf harddrive. It started making a clicking noise and then my computer crashed. I proceeded to boot in safe mode, but it doesn't work. When I ran disk utility in recovery mode, it showed no problem with my disk. Does any one know what the problem is?

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the drive and it ruined the sectors where the Macintosh HD partition (and OS X, and files and programs) reside, but not your Recovery HD partition.
If you held command option r while booting, that's Internet Recovery and it's loaded via the Internet, not via the Recovery HD partition on the boot drive, so that could mean the drive is dead mechanically or there is another issue.
In either case the drive will likely have to be replaced, it's a matter of what occured to where and the drive state if you can recover data or not. If you made recent backups then your fine.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?

  • Clicking noise from the HDD of the new Mac Mini

I just recently purchased a new Mac mini to retire the Macbook pro from my leaving room (it was heating up too much when running Plex). The problem I find is that the new Mini's HDD (toshiba 5400) has a loud clicking noise which on the MBP I can't barely notice. Is anybody else experiencing this?
I would like to understand if this is just a faulty HDD so I can exchange it or if the sound is normal and then I would just return it.
    Thanks in advance

No clicking on my 2010 aluminum model or any of the previous ones that I have had.

  • Clicking noise on the phones

I have several accecc points 1220 connecting to the
same 3550 switch. I am able to connect fine the signal is good, however my phones give a clicking noise when they receive or make calls. I was hoping if any one has any suggestions.
    Thanks

Check to see if you have slips on the T1 connections which would normally result in a "clicking" on the line?

  • Horrible buzzing and clicking noise from the fan - DV6 3046eo

    Hello!
Two weeks ago the fan on my DV6 3046eo laptop began to make almost continueosly buzzing and clicking noise. My laptop is less than an year old (bought in December 2010) and such noise has never occurred before. I have done some "research" to find the reason, but without luck. I have read on Internet that the fan may be broken or loose. I am just using the web and listening the music. I have to admit I played some demanding games on the computer, like BBC2 and Dirt3. But the problem occured later. I can't imagine what will happen if I play games on my laptop now...
The fan seems to cool down the laptop, but it is like something is hitting it every third second or soand preventing it from running silently. The noise is strange and irritating because the frequency changes rapidly. Sometimes when I move the laptop or hit it a bit gently, the loud noise suddenly disappears and the normal continueosly noise takes over (I am ok with the latter one, though). After some while it appears again. The noise come and go. Reboot doesn't help much. I have also used an airspray can, but to no avail. I am thinking about getting the fan replaced by HP before the 1 year warranty runs out. I am not too comfortable to do so myself. What's the reason for this noise and what should I do?
    Thanks in advance!

    Still no comments?
I am getting sick of this noise. I can't bring my laptop to school because it makes too much noise. Please help me.

    Hi j131v,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may want to try resetting your iPod (Knowledge Base Document #61705 on How to Reset iPod). Have you tried "The Five Rs". Is this (Knowledge Base Document #303130 about iPod "stuck" on the Artwork or Rating Screen) your problem?

  • Idea centre K410 clicking noise inside the cabinet

I have just bought a desktop computer Lenovo ideacentre K410. When in operation there is always quite an audible noise inside the cabinet, it's like small stowns rolling down the mountain. I suspect it's made by HDD.  A service centre told me it's normal, but it's rather loud and can be distinctly heard at distance 3-5 metres. What can be done about this? Please help.

  • Click/Noise at the start of the track.

I heare a strange loud noise when the track changes?
Anybody knows how to repair this ???
    Thanks.

Check the start of the track in question in a sample editor. If the waveform doesn't start at the zero crossing point, write a fade-in so it does.
    Hop that helps.

  • My Macbook Air is making a strange clicking noise and the startup sound no longer plays?

I just noticed about 15 minutes ago, that whenever I turn on my Mac, every maybe 30-45 seconds it goes, "Click-Click-Click."
I ran disk utility, and had it verify the disk, and it says everything is in the clear. I googled it, and someone had said that to stop the clicking, they just knocked on it, and it turned out to be the fan, so I tapped the part of the computer that was clicking and it settled for making a very low sounding fan noise. Is it possibly the fan and not the hard drive as everybody else has advised? And as far as the startup noise, it still doesn't "Ding" annoyingly. Any advice?

First action to take in this situation is to fully backup your data, possibly a clone.
Take the computer to an Apple store to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • New MBP, forced to use key commands, gestures don't work, not even clicking only moving the pointer around. Came with Lion.

I am trying to get my new macbook pro (i7) set up. The only way that I can interact is through the key stroke interface. the track pointer moves around but click or other gestures don't do anything. There is an annoying voice over announcing every key stroke. How do I turn that off and use the track pad?

Call AppleCare and have them talk you through it.
