Clicking noise, songs wiped.

i'm having a clicking problem. originally i had to restore my ipod (15mg) it because it was freezing/skipping past songs. everything seemed fine, then when i was using it the ipod froze. i reset it by pushing menu/select, when it came back on all the songs were gone and it was like it was reset after restoring (but i wasn't connected to a computer at the time). when i tried to restore back in my office my computer crashed and the ipod started clicking and wouldn't turn off. i reset it, it went back to restored mode and would shut off without a problem. however, there are no songs on it. and whenever i try to connect it to the computer and restore it the clicking sound starts again and i have to reset it. i can reset and it will stop and go back to restore mode. is it totally busted or could this be a software problem?

Mine is exactly the same. It doesnt recognise it properly when i try to restore it, just saying cannot mount ipod. I think well need to get it repaired or unfortunately get a new one...

When songs are playing in itunes the sound keeps pausing for brief moments and making little clicking noises. Any ideas how to fix this?

Error -36 is an I/O error, which could indicate a damaged Catalog file, corrupted bitmap or (even worse) a dying HD.
I would recommend to run Disk Utility and perform a 'Verify disk'.
If lots of errors are found, try to save as much files as possible to another disk.
Then perform a 'Repair disk'. Repairing a catalog file or bitmap might cause loss of files, that's why I recommend to verify first and save the files, before repairing.

  • HT1363 ipod making clicking noise and won't work

Ipod making clicking noise and won't work. Display see apple store. We live in a rural area so one is not close!

OK, I have the 30G w/video and it does that too. I've had it a year with no problems. My husband went on the treadmill with it a couple days ago and after a few songs it froze. I did the whole regime of toggling and pressing menu/select button, I put in on my Bose speaker/charger and it switched to very low battery warning. When I took it off to move to computer it said to connect to computer and use restore (in a few languages). I connected and it recognized it and I did restore and after a few minutes screen came up saying it could NOT restore. Then ipod was unrecognized and then ipod screen gave me the very sad little ipod picture with the support web site. At that point it began making the clicking nose - morris code does describe it but I was invisioning a little nano sprite in there with a chisel!!So, same as you, I go there and it's like a maze trying to find help!! Of course my warranty was up exactly 6 weeks ago!! I tried linking through all the stuff like finding a service provider in my area, contact the "knowledge base" etc., and I can't get anyone! Now what are we gonna do?

  • Ipod makes clicking noise and won't be recognized by itunes.

I've had this ipod for about 2-3 years (5th generation 30 GB) and all of a sudden it started making clicking noises when i started it. So i connected it to my computer and all it does is (1). Start up with the Apple Logo (2). Make that clicking noise where it sounds a ticking clock. (3.) Please wait, very low battery. (then it goes forward after) (4). Shows some icon with an ipod with dead eyes ( x.x ), emergency icon and it says www.apple.com/support/ipod. Please answer because i have over thousands of songs and i dont have them on my itunes ( i transfer the songs to my itunes. then my ipod but then i had to reformat it and so the songs on itunes are gone and i have only my ipod)

ive got excatly the same problem, my pod (also had it 3yrs 30gb 5th generation) has started making the clicking noise, i get the apple symbol appear or the sad looking face, im unable to restore it and i think the sad face may mean its a hardware problem from wot ive read on the online support. but i dont know what to do or where to send it to be fixed or if it can be fixed, if you find out how it can be fixed please let me know its doin me head in.

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPod/weird clicking noise

Hi, recently I've tried connecting my iPod to my laptop and iTunes would freeze and task manager said it wasn't responding. In addition, when this happened, my iPod would make a weird clicking noise. I noticed this noise before when I had it on shuffle and would skip to a different song just after another song started. Does anyone know what's going on?

    Similar problem here:
When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

  • Problem with clicking noise and using hdapm

I'm having a problem with my 2009 17" MacBook Pro, with Lion. I installed a new, larger hard drive, and ever since then a tinny clicking noise has been emanating from the laptop. I tried to install hdapm, and I am able to successfully download the .dmg file and mount the disk image. However, at this point, all I see is a .pkg file. I clicked to install the program, abd then added the command to Lingon to execute 'hdapm disk0 max' upon startup. However, Console said that it failed to execute this command. I tried entering it directly on Terminal, and still no luck. It should be compatible with my hard drive, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. From what I've gathered, there should be another file in the original disk image that I can move into my Applications folder; however, I could not find it anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

This is not a disk failure problem, regardless of how there are disk failure modes that act like this. It is a hard disk firmware situation that conflicts with OS hd controllers. It is a problem that comes and goes, or gets less of a problem or more of a problem depending on OS upgrades. Although I have it happening with a Seagate drive, it is reported on Western Digital drives.
It is also not only exclusively a Mac hardware problem or software problem. There are comments on Dell's forums, and even a Seagate firmware upgrade (which I fear to do.) There are also solutions where people boot to Unix, do the fix there, then reboot to Mac and it disappears and stays disappeared.
==>> N.B. – In Lion and the last couple versions of SL, you need to place a 'sudo' in front of the 'hdapm disk0 max'. Then it will work...for a while...maybe.
I have modified versions of the airport plist in the past from 'always on' to 'when needed' and that helps until the OS changes something. Then the same 'fix' won't make the constant head parking stop.
Different combinations of programs will start it up. Sometimes just getting the head busy for a while, like playing songs on iTunes, will stop it and upon closing iTunes will continue to keep it off. (Playing songs with a lot of percussion will not disguise the problem since by the time you try that you will be sensitized to hear the sound even when it is -96dB from ambient.)
A new variation with Lion has been to get the click going a couple minutes !!!after!!! putting the system to sleep! In fact, this problem has never been so uncontrollable as with Lion.
...and that is why I am back searching the forums to see if anyone has an up-to-date solution.

  • Clicking noise in iTunes 8.2

I am experiencing a new clicking noise in any song I have in my library all the sudden. These files have all been ripped properly and they have been working for years with no problems. All of the files I have also play perfectly in Windows Media Player. I have no audio enchancements turned on in itunes either.
I am using iTuens 8.2.1.6 64 bit version for my 64 bit Vista installation. I see a lot of posts with this problem doing a google search but that is all there is...people looking for a solution but no suggestions. Anyone else have this problem and find a solution?
This is only happening in iTunes on my computer..not on my ipod.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Have you installed any 3rd-party iTunes plug-ins or Add-ons? If they were created for an earlier version of iTunes, you might have to update or uninstall them.

  • My hd makes clicking noises...

I just got the 30GB iPod video yesterday and I noticed at the start and finish of a video, and occasionally while playing music, the HD makes quite obvious clicking noises. The reason I'm worried is because I though HD's only make the noise of starting up, no clicking noises. Is this a problem? And one more question, how do I tell if it is a 5G or a 5.5G? Or are they both the same?

if you bought it yesterday it is almost surely the newer version. one easy way to tell is check if you have the search function. if you do, it's the new version. another way is to cross-check the serial number, but i don't know how to do this. the clicking is normal. it is your hard drive updating temporary memory. it is more prevalent while viewing the videos because they take up so much more data than songs.

  • Clicking noise and freezing during updating

Hello everyone, if anyone could help with the following problem i'd be more than grateful. my ipod recently wouldnt connect to windows and started making a clicking noise. to try an resolve this i have reset and restored. I thought this would solve the problem. However, when ipod is updating it seems to freeze, stop updating and clicking noise starts. the following message appears
the specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired.
the only way i can disconnect is to shut the computer down. My playlists appear but with no songs.
this is my 2nd ipod (clicking noise also happened so ipod was replaced in warranty) which is now out of warranty. I think my hard drive might be giving up? These discussions are my last hope! Do I buy a new ipod (possibly for the same thing to happen)? or is it worth getting it serviced? Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Even i have a Ipod with a click wheel and is behaving similarly.
Once i connect it to the PC (using USB) it shows the "Do Not Disconnect" sign forever and even iTunes does not recognize it, the hard disk is making some clicking noise and after some time windows returns timeout error "The specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired" !!
I think we are in the same boat, What do we do ???
    Thanks

  • Cannot get rid of popping clicking noise when playing music ,HELP! PLEASE

hi, for perhaps the past few monthes, itunes has been creating loud and obnoxious popping and clicking noises every few seconds while playing music on EVERY song. i know its itunes because i have played songs on other media players and they work fine.ive tried the the QT 7 version of the waveout trick. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling it numerous times, and trying older versions, however i can't go that far back in versions due to my somewhat new ipod holding me back (which btw, music works fine on that). If it were up to me id go and use a whole other media player but a good amount of my music has been bought or ripped in itunes codec. im out of luck and frankly its driving me crazy, please help.

Project settings -> Metronome -> Turn off 'click while recording' at the bottom of that page

  • Clicking noise when playing MP3 tracks.

This faint clicking noise started today in FCE 4.0.1 I have read some bits online about perhaps the CD's were old and that was the reason when I transferred the songs into MP3 to drag into my video clip. I have played the songs on iTunes and there is no clicking noise. Also I have music in my iTunes that I got off the internet and it works fine too in iTunes, but starts the clicking when in FCE.
Also I have gone to other works I have created on FCE in the past and I have the same problems with the sound that I never use to have.
    Anyone have any ideas?

FWIW, no version of FCP or FCE has ever worked natively with the MP3 audio format or even with AIFF audio at 44.1khz (CD Audio sampling rate). This has been well documented in the User's Manual since version 1.0. While you can import non-native audio, it will require rendering to play properly. But even with rendering, MP3 files can often exhibit clicking and other abnormalities.

  • IPod is whirring and clicking between songs

I have an iPod 160 gb. I received it Dec 25, 2009. I listen to it in the car (connected via a chord built into the car). Lately, when I shut down the car, I can hear the iPod's hard drive shut down. Yesterday evening, I could hear the hard drive whirring and clicking between songs. Otherwise, the hard drive makes no other noises. I should also mention that one of the songs cuts out two seconds into the song and moves immediately onto the next song, but it's working perfectly on my MacBook. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the iPod's hard drive. Thanks in advance!

I've been searching around the message boards and this seems to be a problem for the click wheel model. I've also experienced this problem. I have tried reseting my ipod and ran the latest version of updater <which only gave me the dreaded exclamation point folder>. I'll take it to my nearest apple store <2 hrs away> but I'm sceptical about the experience.

  • 80g video ipod only shows apple logo and makes loud clicking noises

I've had my ipod 80g for a little over two years, with few incidents, and it's about 50 g full. When I most recently connected it to my computer, it started making these loud whirring and clicking noises and the apple logo is all that shows. I know the ipods can't be expected to last more than a few years (or so I'm told) so my question is what to do. Should I take it into the apple store and have the hard drive totally wiped of all my music, should I try some alternative fix (this strange business card opening the ipod technique, for instance?), or is there something else I should try? Is an ipod in this stage even salvagable? Thanks!

i have the EXACT same problem. Whenever i add new files and try to play them the clicking noise is LOUD and it does not stop for a good 10 seconds nad my IPOD begins to shake...
i would like to know the answer as well

  • Random (and annoying) Clicking Noise

First post. So, bear with me.
I'm semi-new to GarageBand, been using it for a bit now. I recently recorded a full song, drum track, 2 guitars, bass, vocals. I mixed it, mastered it, etc. That was all good and dandy.
I have, however, now wanted to go back and play around with it.
Yet, everytime i open the file, there is an incessent clicking noise. Sometimes it is on specific tracks and if I mute those, it goes away, but sometimes it permeates the whole song.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Oh, the clicking sound IS effected by any applied FX, and also happens on tracks which have no recorded media in them yet.
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You said it wasn't the metronome - have you turned it off?
If you record a vocal with monitor ON but plug headphones into the Mac's headphone socket do you get the problem.
Are you getting overpeak warnings on GB's meters - track or main?
If you import a recording (one you know to be OK) from elsewhere into GB do you get the problem? (If you want one to try: http://www.macjams.com/song/28234 and click 'download' - probably not your sort of music but I can promise you it has no clicks, though it does have a fairly heavy bass drum.)
If you play songs in iTunes do you get the same problem?
If you reduce the master level in GarageBand does the problem stop?
How are you listening - the Mac's internal speakers, speakers connected to the headphone jack...?
If you turn down the Mac's output volume and/or any external powered speakers does the problem stop?
