Clicking on a link opens a maximized window.
I have links that opens a child window. I am using window.open without height and width(as per the requirement). In firefox 30, it always opens the pop up with the size of the parent window. Is there anything that we can restrict Firefox from taking the properties of parent window?

Clicking on a link opens a broken window that never completes?
When clicking on some links (for example, a list of links to pages in a newsletter email), a few will open, then I get dead windows. Sometimes the window will have just a title in the top bar and not go any further. More recently, I've been getting the title in the top bar, a small mini-window with about an inch of blue and the three upper-right window buttons (but non-functional), and a status bar in the middle of a black window. The status bar will go through several messages, but the window itself never completes.
Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article for more information.
To Reset Firefox:
# Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: [[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

In Lion, the default of pressing a link on a web page, is to open the page in a new tab. In itself, I do like this because this is what I did for 19 out of any 20 links, which I command+clicked in previous Safari versions.
However, there is a snag to this behaviour. Most (all?) secure site do not like links to be opened in a new tab. For example, when I am doing Web banking, The the linked page doesn’t open in new tab. Rather I get a page telling me my login session is expired. Probably a security measure instituted by my bank.
I since found out, that a command-click opens lings in the same window. Theoretically that solves the problem, if I would think about this all the time. I don't. Old habits die slowly.
Is there a terminal command to make links open in same window the default behaviour, as it was in Safari 5.0.Hi Eric,
I got it figured out today, basically you have to load the Parallel Flash Loader first into FPGA ram. It is a special .sof file (pfl_epXXXX.sof) based on your FPGA. Code is actually pretty straight forward, using the Sys Exec VI. Use the windows based programmer to generate the .cdf file that identifies your FPGA, attached Flash and .pof file .
Syntax was odd going into Sys Exec. Note the extra "C" in in front of the "quartus_prm.exe" I have no idea why that was needed, but I was getting an error until I just happened to put it in there (Blind Luck :-))
I used a 2 element array going into a four loop
cmd /cquartus_pgm.exe -c USB-BLASTER -m JTAG -o P;pfl_epXXXX.sof
cmd /cquartus_pgm.exe -c USB-BLASTER -m JTAG S_FPGA.cdf
Defining the working director C:\altera\12.1sp1\qprogrammer\bin
And added match string with "Successfully performed operation" on the output in the loop to make sure everything loaded correctly then adding the array to give me a overall P/F
To anyone doing this same thing Altera's documentation is poor to say the least. It took most of a week to figure this out Not allowed to upload code, so anyone wanting details just post here and I will try to help. This was painful, with lots of lessons learned.
Thanks for the interest though

When I right click on a link "Open link in new tab" since a few days, it "jumps over" the tab to the right and opens in the tab next to that. How can I change this back to opening in the tab next to the page from which I opened as it used to be?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") -
When I click on something to open in another window it does not open.
When I click on a link Mozilla populates another window but it never loads anything. I end up having to open Internet Explorer to view anything that has a link that I need to click on.
That's helpful information.
What version of iPhoto? Assumung 09 or 11...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

The wheel click button does not open a new window since the latest update (9.0.1)
Thank youMiddle-click or click the scroll-wheel on a hyperlink has always opened a '''new Tab'''. Any chance you had an add-on that changed that action, and now that add-on is disabled or incompatible?

When I try to Ctrl+Left click to open a link in a new tab, it will open it in a new window instead. Then while in the new window if I Ctrl+Left click a link it will open a new tab in the second window. If I then go back to the first Firefox window and Ctrl+Left click a link the second firefox window will pop up and the new tab will be created there. Why won't the Ctrl+Left click work when only one window is open?

Why does clicking a link open a new window with a spam site on it?
Happens randomly I will click a link that I want open on new tab it opens but a random site will open in a new window. These sites that open are spam sites that I do not want. I have uninstalled deleted firefox and reinstalled it nothing is fixing this issue. My other computer has the same problem. Does not happen all the time its just random sometime i dont even have to click a link and a new window will open with dating sites poker sites just crap I did not want opened.
Recomend getting adblock for firefox.
if you still get unrelated links you should consider scanning for Malware on you computer (this could be an installed program or an extension). I would recommend Malwarebytes as it is somewhat free to use. -
Title bar gets squashed when a link opens in new window.
It doesn't happen when i click "open in new window" but only when I click a link that opens in new window automatically. The title bar gets narrower so the tab goes outside the screen. After minimizing and maximizing again it becomes OK. It's the same in "safe mode". I also tried creating a new profile but the problem still exists.
This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Have search results link open in same window
Hello,
I'm looking at the FlexUI stuff and wondering before I delve too deeply... that and my Portal is currently not cooperating. How can I make it so that when the user clicks on a search results link, it shows in the same window (as opposed to opening a new window)?
Thanks,
MikeHi there,
we had the same issue - I opened an OSS and got following reply :
<i>
<b>08.03.2007 - 12:45:49 CET SAP Reply</b>
I have checked from my development colleague and confirmed that
this parameter is not supported currently and development has recently
no plans to support this feature.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused here.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best Regards

Can you believe this ? I don't, as this parameter has been around since SP12 or so and still there is no official note regarding this issue.

I inherited a Help project in RoboHelp 6. I have both
context-sensitive topics and am developing a total Help system. I
am frustrated with several "features" of RoboHelp.
1) I can't figure out how to control how links open. I want
them all to open in a small Help window, so when a user clicks a
link, it opens in the same Help window. Instead, many of my links
are opening in a full browser window. How do I control this?
2) When I edit code in their supposedly "TrueCode" mode, my
changes do not "take" -- instead RoboHelp shows something else, and
this happens even when I edit the file in another editor. I hate
this!!! (One example: to try to fix the window-opening problem, I
tried adding Target="Self" to links, but RoboHelp removes the quote
marks)
3) Why no Back button? I saw the item about adding a back
button with JavaScript and will try it. I find the lack of a Back
button annoying in RoboHelp's own Help, which IMHO is not well
organized or well-written (am I the last person on earth to
understand that "display" is a transitive verb? Or that you don't
open a "dialog" but rather a "dialog box?"I really do appreciate your help, and I want to apologize for
offending anyone. I think my antipathy to RoboHelp began years ago
with a totally different version, plus, with my current project, I
came in behind someone else who recommended the company buy
RoboHelp (at a cost of $1000), started the Help and had very little
done before she quit and they hired me. My work involves more than
doing this Help system, but I wish I could have been here to review
and recommend tools... and maybe I would have ended up with
RoboHelp anyhow. I don't want to waste the company's $1000
investment, so I just have to master this tool, even if I do have a
laundry list of complaints about it.
Your comments were considerably more helpful to me than the
RoboHelp Help. I now realize that 1) RoboHelp talks about "frames"
because a full help window (with TOC) actually uses frames, and 2)
what I want to do may not be possible.
Here is what is happening. Our application is not
Windows-based, but rather uses "portlets" -- a "page" in the
application may have 7 or 8 portlets that load independently (the
user can configure his page to have the portlets he wants). The
user can right-click a portlet to get a menu of options that
includes "Help." When the user clicks this Help option, he gets a
small single-topic window, without frames or TOC. The Help file is
given the same name as the portlet. This is the instruction I got
from the developers, who showed me how to find the portlet name.
This is all working just fine.
Here's the problem: I have links inside those single-topic
windows. When you click a link inside these windows (the
context-sensitive help associated with the portlets), the link
opens a full browser window. The small window with the portlet Help
remains. The new window does not replace the old window. What I
intended (and was trying to make happen with those RoboHelp choices
from "Display in frame" in the Hyperlink window) was for the link
to replace the previous window -- to appear in the small
single-topic window.
When I preview a topic, the links DO open in the same size
window, but maybe that is not surprising. The application may act
differently. If RoboHelp can only control how a link behaves when
the link is in a full (with frames) Help window, then maybe none of
the "Display in frame" choices will make any difference. Is it
possible that I just can't have any links in a context-sensitive
window? Or is this something the developers could change by
specifiying that windows replace windows?
Can you see how it seemed to me that I could fix how the
links should behave in the HTML? It certainly seems logical that a
simple "target="self" would work, and I did not know why RoboHelp
was changing the code. Was it to insure that the code would NOT
work (as in "commenting out" lines of code?) RoboHelp Help is not
big on explaining what its features are actually doing.
If I cannot have links inside a context-sensitive,
single-topic small window, then I need to rethink the design of my
Help system. The developers gave this very little thought and
seemed to think the context-sensitive help would be enough to guide
the users, but I can see that it is not enough. We DO need a full
(with TOC) Help system, as not all features are just a portlet.
Some features involve tabbed pages that have no "Help" link. This
is a very complex EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system, with a
lot of features that need explaining... So, at present, I am mixing
the two kinds of Help -- context-sensitive and full Help, with TOC.
The developers automatically add "Help" to all right-click menus,
so they are working on a concept of context-sensitive Help. I can
create a file for all those "help" menu items, but the help will
not be as helpful as I'd like if I can't put links to related
topics inside the window.
I have not tried RoboHelp's "related" button feature because
I prefer to just put the links in the window than have users do the
extra step of clicking a button, but I could try that if the
"related topics" pop-up would give me links that would open inside
the small window. It just does not seem acceptable ot me to hav
Help windows going outside the system to a full browser window that
leaves the previous window open.
Regarding the question about whether the project files and
output files are the same -- the output file is clearly different,
but both use the target=_self format. I don't know if we're using
the RH CSH interface. I will try to get more information from the
developers as to whether they have somehow set these windows to
work this way.
Regarding creating a new "Window" defintion--- I did look
into that, and you can specify a "one pane" window, but I don't
want a Help topic to be confined to one pane. The same topic that
is a context-senstive topic also appears in the TOC, sowhen the
user is accessing it from the full Help, the topic should open in
the right pane, like every other topic accessed this way. The
"window" definition does let you set a window size and choose to
make it resizable or not. But it is not this "window" feature that
is controlling the context-sensitive windows, since they are not
set to a separate "window" definition, so it is not clear that this
strategy would actually work.
Have I explained the problem better? My purpose is to create
useful and helpful Help. RoboHelp is the tool I've been given to do
it, and I am not experienced with this tool. If anyone can tell me
if I can get those links to open in the same window as the previous
single-topic small window, I would be most grateful. Otherwise, I
may have to rethink my whole design.
Again, I am sorry if I was overly critical and offended
anyone. -
Every link opens a new window even when this should open a new tab
Lately, whenever I click on a link a new window opens (11 happenings of firefox just to get to this page). In options I have selected open new tab instead of new window. Deselecting or reselecting does not change this. Restarting firefox did not help either. Also for some reason if I click the dot button on the keyboard, I get the greater than sign.
This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") -
PDF links - open in new window
I have a PDF document that has web links that were created in InDesign, then exported as a PDF. Once in the PDF, the links are fine but I would like for a new browser window to open when they are clicked rather than within the same browser window. I can't seem to find this in the preferences or properties, etc? How do I do this? Thank you!
Is the link an HTML link, or within a PDF? Is it a URL link or a file link?

Why do links open in new windows, not tabs, even when that option is selected?
Since update to v. 6 and now 7.01, clicking on links opens a new instance of Firefox instead of a new tab. In Tools\Options\Tabs. I have selected "open new window in tab instead" and it has no effect.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance!!Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, while running in FF in safe mode may be doing the trick and thus implies an extension (though not necessarily), I haven't added any new extensions. So it is likely a problem introduced by FF since v. 6 or so. I suppose it could be that the extensions themselves need updating by their creators.
Regardless it is all very time-consuming and frustrating, especially for something that one would think would be readily fixable.
