Clicking on a website opens it in a new window but also opens up a blank tab

On the Firefox homepage when clicking on a website to open, it opens up a new window and a new tab. Instead of going to the desired website I'm automatically lead to the blank tab which is the pinned favourites webpage (this is different to my homepage which is google).
I would like to be able to click on a website and it open in a new tab but on the same window that I'm using.
Any help would be appreciated.

I just tried the link and it is just fine. If the GateKeeper pops up then open Security & Privacy preferences, click on the General tab, set the last radio button to Anywhere.

I would like to open links in a new window but cannot find where to put the setting. Have unchecked the "Open new windows in new tab instead" box in the Options dialog box.

When I click a link on a webpage or other software, I would like for it to open in a completely new window.

You can hold the Shift key and click the left mouse button a link to open that link in a new window.
The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs is only for links that specify a target window and you can divert such a link to a new tab instead.

Safari opens links in a new window but it's blank

Apologies if this type of question has been answered, I searched and didn't seem to find a similar discussion. If you know of one, please let me know.
The issue is that on occasion when clicking on a link, it opens a new window but the new page is blank. This doesn't happen all the time. Most of the time I get this problem with google searches and recently with BBC America. I go to BBC America and click on shops, I end up at this address http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/142/shop.jsp. I've made sure everything is up to date, turned of all firewalls and allowed pop up windows. So far it hasn't helped. Currently running Safari 5.1.

Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.

Whenever I open a new window in Firefox, it not only opens a new window with a new tab, it also opens all my existing tabs a second time in the new window. This has been happening for several days. Closing Firefox and rebooting doesn't solve the problem.
A related problem is that if I close all tabs and close Firefox, then reboot and re-open Firefox, all the tabs that were closed re-open too.
This is new behavior in Firefox in my experience.

Firefox opens the home pages in a new window, so if you want to open a new window blank then you need to set the home page to about:blank
You can check the startup setting: 
Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my home page" | "Show a blank page"

How to I get iCal to open on login (not just startup but also open a new window)

I have added iCal to the startup on login in user preferences but it only starts the program, what I am trying to achieve is it startup and open a new window for me to review my daily calendar as soon as I login to my computer.

When I click the home button firefox switches to the home page, but also opens a new tab with the firefox startup page.

This is so annoying. I wind up with a bunch of extra tabs that I have to close.

Make sure that you haven't set multiple home pages, separated by a pipe (|) symbol.

Yesterday, DTA showed all PDF files on a page but today it wont. I can click on the link and DTA works from new window, but yesterday didnt have to do that. Why

Im at a webpage that lists 200 links to PDF children's books. Yesterday I clicked DTA from this page and it showed all of the PDF files. Now when I try that today it doesnt show any PDF files. However, when I click on one of the links from the first page and then use DTA, the PDF files are seen. Why did it change and why can't I select all the PDF files from the original index page? I upgraded to the newest Firefox, downgraded to an older version, and reinstalled DTA twice. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Why does Firefox sometimes open a new window when I navigate to an existing tab?

I often have 7 or 8 tabs open in Firefox. Sometimes when I click on a tab, Firefox opens it in a new window instead of just going to that tab. I haven't figured out a pattern when it does this.

A very slight movement (usually downward) will cause the tab to "tear off"/"tear away" into a new window. You can drag the tab back to the original window from the new window.

Many sites which offer specific "print formatted" pages do that: they assume that once you have finished with the print dialog you no longer want the page itself. So for your convenience they close it. Not so convenient for you, since you still want to view the page.
I'm not aware of an easy solution for this. I can think of a couple different approaches.
First, maybe there's an add-on to solve this? That would be easiest.
Second, maybe there's a userscript to solve this?
The Greasemonkey add-on runs userscripts which you can copy or download. Be careful to install only long-establish and trusted scripts. (''Is there a site that has this bad behavior that I can view without logging in? I will test one of my existing scripts to see whether it helps.'')
Third, Firefox has an old system for restricting site permissions in a custom text file in your profile folder (named user.js). Editing this file is a bit advanced, and I haven't been able to test it, but the system works along these lines:
