Clicking on Adobe Acrobat file brings up Microsoft viewer fax

I want to view an Acrobat file at my mutual fund online and when I click on the Adobe file icon, the Microsoft Viewer and Fax window appears and I cannot view the file. How do I get back the function whereby my Adobe reader opens the view of the file?

I found a satisfactory solution although it is not as simple or direct as I think the solution should be.
The Windows Viewer & Fax window still comes up when I click on Adobe Reader, but I then '''right'' click on the Windows Viewer screen and a small window opens and there is a choice given to Open Adobe Reader and I then click on it and the PDF file does open. I would be happier if the Windows Viewer did not insert itself between my clicking on Adobe Reader the first time, but I cannot seem to be rid of the Windows Viewer & Fax application opening the first time I click on Adobe Reader.

  • Is there a command to "Show in Finder" when looking an Adobe Acrobat file?

Is there a command to "Show in Finder" when looking an Adobe Acrobat file?
I have a lot of file with almost exactly the same names, and it gets very tedious to have to open Finder and search for it.

Ah yes, your aim must be exact! Incidently, as long as we're there in the title bar, there is another little secret up there: the wee little "proxy" icon in front of the name. You can actually do things with it. For instance, you can click and hold (pause for a half of second until it turns gray), now drag it to the Desktop, and you'll get an alias to the file. If you press the Option key while you drag you'll get a new copy of the file. Wait, there's more! Say you have a Safari window open, to this page perhaps, and you want to save the Safari page to the same folder as the file you have open in Preview. Bring up the Safari save dialog sheet, grab the proxy icon on the open file, drag 'n drop it into the Safari Save navigation section, and presto, the folder the file is in will be the one displayed in the Safari save pane. You can do this with the proxy icons anywhere, including those in a Finder window. So if you have a folder open, you can drag its proxy icon into the save or open navigation section of a program, and there you are. Saves you time navigating to something you already have open in one place (the Finder) from your program. I use it all the time.

  • Starting today, Firefox will not open Adobe Acrobat files in Adobe Reader, despite my putting Reader as default in Applications tab.

Until today, I had no trouble opening Adobe Acrobat files with Adobe Reader 9.5. (I need to use an old version of Adobe Reader, because I use a program called Macro Express that does not recognize later versions.) Starting this morning, when I click on an Acrobat file, I am asked which program I want to open it with. Even when I click "Do this automatically...", it doesn't do so. It asks me every time. I went into Tools, Applications, and changed all of the pdf related issues to open with Adobe Reader 9.5. This also doesn't work.

What I did was to reinstall/upgrade Adobe Reader, then there is an new option showing up in Firefox > options > applications > Portable Document Format(PDF), which is "use adobe acrobat in Firefox". Choose this one, then I managed again to open PDF files with Adobe Reader internally in Firefox.

  • Disable Mouse Right click inside Adobe Acrobat PDF plugin

    Hi All,
We are rendering Adobe live cycle pdf file inside html object tag.
I have disabled toolbar , navigation bar using navpanes=0&toolbar=0.
But when mouse right click reenable the context menu again.
So Is there any way to disable mouse righ click inside Adobe Acrobat PDF browser plugin?

I had the same problem after updating Firefox to version 4.0 and Acrobat Reader to Version X. For me (Win XP) what solve the problem was deleting the Acrobat Reader Plugin (nppdf32.dll) in the Firefox plugin folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins). So now there is only one Acrobat Reader Plugin left namely the one in the Acrobat Reader plugin folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\Browser).

  • Enabling an Adobe Acrobat file

How can I enable an Adobe Acrobat file in my System 7 2010 Word program in order to edit it?  I can opoen the file, but it won't let me make changes.

Since Word does not directly edit PDFs, perhaps converting the PDF to a Word document would work for you.
In the Acrobat X menu:  File  >  Save As  > Microsoft Word > Word Document
Make your edits in Word, then
convert back to PDF from Word's Acrobat tab.

  • Create layered Adobe Acrobat files from PSE 2.0?

This forum has been consistently very helpful to me, for which I am ever so grateful.
As a solution to the "global Awareness" and "global literacy" dilemma in public education, I have created an 8-volume print and digital content suite in PSE 2.0 (over a period of 12 years). Teachers are eager to get hold of it, but I am discovering that not that not all classroom teachers have direct access to Adobe Photoshop Elements. Is there a way to convert my PSE 2.0 files to layered Adobe Acrobat files without losing quality of the images?
[For low-res reference, see www.worldpeas.org and click on the .pdf button.] The .psd graphics files consist of large-format continental maps, layered with up to 200 postage stamp catalogue images. The stamp objects are moved to their correct places on the map, with the correct map number corresponding to the layer number. In the digital versions, users right click on the stamp image to see if they got the correct map position.
    Any other suggestions?
    Many thanks for reading this.

GloblaEd, I like your questions, they trigger my inquisitive nature!
Anyway, there is a multi-layer PSD World Map available* from http://snipahar.deviantart.com/art/Artistic-Map-Making-Template-318243114. This file makes use of layer groups, which is a full Photoshop feature. PSE can read layer groups and resave them but you cannot work with them other than hide, reorder, rename or delete them. For the purpose of this exercise though that's not important.
After unzipping the file from the above link, I opened it in PSE12 and saved it as a layered PDF file using the instructions I gave in Reply #2. The resultant PDF opens fine in both PSE12 and PS-CS6 with all layers intact, so I think things are looking good for what you want to do.
You can view or download the pdf I created from here - https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=F6CE9FE6B45F5496%21144
Incidentally the file has 346 layers, all of which were correctly saved by PSE12 into the PDF file and opened correctly in both PSE12 and full Photoshop (which is where the following screenshot is taken from). This should be a good test for you to determine if it can do what you want or not.
    * You can get links to loads of public domain map image files by searching https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=world+map+psd+layerered.

  • Zip files and Adobe Acrobat files

    Hello all,
I have a couple of kinda distinct questions that I wanted to ask. I hope I've chosen the right sub-forum to post them in. My questions are
    1) when I try to unzip a .zip file in my Documents folder I get the following error message
"Archive Utility - unable to unarchive "CdnEnergy.zip" into "Documents". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)"
ditto if I move it to the Desktop and try there. This doesn't seem to be a 'space' problem as my computer is very new and I haven't loaded it up with lots of stuff. I have unzipped this file before (admittedly not on a Mac).
    2) How can I set Adobe Acrobat to be the default application for .pdf files so that when I click on a pdf file it's opened by Adobe Reader rather than the Mac Viewer? I know I can select Adobe with a Ctrl+click, but can I set it so that it's always the default?
Thanks very much for your help,
    Eoghan

    Welcome to the Discussions!
The first problem is not obvious, but I would suggest using Disk Utility to repair permissions. Also, you could download the free Stuffit Expander to have an alternate unzip program.
The second problem is easy. In the Finder, select a pdf file and then select File->Get Info. In the window that appears, select the Acrobat as the Open With application and select the option to always use this application.

  • Adobe Acrobat File vs PDF File

I have 15 computers that are all exactly the same, same hardware and Windows image. These are an upgrade from older systems.
When trying to save a Word document as a PDF, an error message comes up saying there is no program associated with that file, which never happened with the old computers. So after trying to research the issue, nothing helpful really came up. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Adobe Reader and it seemed to fix the issue, but only on one of the computers. I looked into the default program associations in Windows, and realised that there was a difference between the working computer and the others. On the working computer, .pdf files are described as an "Adobe Acrobat Document" whereas on the non-working computers it is described as a "PDF File".
    Working
    Non-Working
I had also realised beforehand that the icons for .pdfs were different as well on the new computers, but I didn't think much of it until this issue came up. This is the same document on a USB drive but plugged into the different computers.
All I did to fix the new computer was re-install Reader and it works, so I'm not sure why it didn't on any of the others. I even tried repairing Reader and that didn't do anything. I used the same install file for all of them as well, the latest version right from the Adobe site (AdbeRdr11009_en_US.exe)
I'm fairly lost now after not finding any information on this issue online, so now I come to the forums for help.

So I finally got this fixed today, and documented all my steps. I had checked the registry using regedit first, and the entries seemed the same for the computers, but it does still seem to be a registry issue. I had checked the .pdf entry and the AcroExch ones and they seemed fine. The "pdf_auto_file" seems to be the cause of the issue.
    1) I used the "Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool" that Pat Willener linked above.
    2) Run CCleaner registry cleaner. The first time you run it, it should have this:
    Open with Application Issue    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "%1"    HKCR\pdf_auto_file\shell\Read
Run it again after that and it should have this one:
Invalid or empty file class    pdf_auto_file    HKCR\pdf_auto_file
You can run it again if you want and it will have this, but you can also just open a .pdf after installing Reader and choose Reader as the default program:
    Unused File Extension    .pdf - pdf_auto_file    HKCR\.pdf
I ran the regular CCleaner cleanup as well, but I don't think it's necessary. Still a good thing to do anyways though.
    3) Install Reader, easy enough.
It should work fine after this. I noticed that after restarting the desktop and start menu icons were gone, so just running the install again as an update puts in back in the start menu where you can make a desktop icon again if you need.
Thanks for the help Pat Willener and Bernd Alheit

  • Adobe Acrobat File Sizes

I receive many scanned document for work and one problem I am having is when I receive the documents the file size is sometimes very large. So large that I cannot upload these documents to our server because of size.  Unfortunately, since I have no control over the 2000+ individuals that scan documents and send them to me, I need to find a way to reduce the file size.  I also have no way of knowing what version of Adobe they use; however I currently have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and should be getting Adobe Acrobat Professional 10 in the next couple days.  I usually use the Optimizer, which sometimes works and then sometimes it make the file size even larger.  Is there another method where I can reduce the file size?  Thank You

The Preflight Tools will give you much greater control of how you can reduce the file sizes. While you cannot control what the 2000+ individuals will do, an instruction sheet or a specification sheet recommending settings to be used might save you work, even if it is only used by 10% of the people.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I do not have Acrobat available in the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 task bar. (Mac OS 10.8.3)
I have searched, and my understanding is that these two programs are not compatible. Has a plugin or something been developed to do this?
What functionality is missed by not having this?
    Thanks,
    Donna

There's no plugin for the Mac version of Office, but you can still use Acrobat by printing to the PDF Printer to generate a PDF from your Office files.
(PS - you should post Acrobat-related questions in the Acrobat forums, not the Reader ones)

We use Autodesk Inventor and pay a third party to host our 3D CAD viewing for our website. A user can go to a parts details page and click on view CAD model and a 3D, moveable model will pop-up. Can we use the 3D aspects of Acrobat to bring this service in-house?

    Hello Adam,
Did you try to uninstall A3D then clean up your registery data base and then re-install. It should fix the problem, please keep us updated.

  • Anyone know why pdf links won't open? also- malware has hijacked the downloadable file available when clicking on Adobe's file:

Changed OS to Mavericks & pdf links from websites won't open. I also had private browsing on  in safari.
I have acrobat 10.1.10.  I tried to update it when prompted  by auto-updates and it said it can't because  the product has been changed since installed. that can only be the switch to mavericks osx. But it might have prompted me to get version 11 though I only have version 10 & I did the version 10 update in mid-Sept.
Then, I tried going to adobe.com, searched "upda" and got a list of the cs items with icons, plus two text only links, one was acrobat for mac and the last one, "Update manager update (Mac OS)". It said it is to "resolve a common issue with Adobe Update manager on Mac OS". I cliucked that and got some bogus file. When I hit the button on adobe's site, it shows that the file name should be Adobeupdatemanager403.dmg or something very similar to that. Instead in the download list /box I got " installjdownloader.dmg"  I clicked it once & saw terms of service in which they will switch you to use only their search engine, serve ads, etc. So luckily I didn't install it.
Does adobe need to investigate this malware problem? Others might search the way I did.
Anyway, this all started because after installing mavericks, i can't open any pdfs from the web.
Can anyone help me? Thank you very much in advance.
