Clicking on login image goes straight to terminal...

Hello,
So I finally rebooted my computer after the latest update. Everything went fine until I clicked on my user icon to log in... Aqua quit and went straight to a terminal log in prompt. I can log on just fine, but...
It doesn't matter which user account I click on.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Jim
Did you try the solution in this post, with the modification I posted further down the same topic?
To recap, the commands you need in Single User Mode are
/sbin/fsck -y
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /var/db/netinfo
mv local.nidb/ local.nidb.bad
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
ls -ln /Users
but read the other posts to understand the context.
Note that Single User Mode is different to the command mode you are in after logging in.
I can't help you with the DVD problem—it sounds like a hardware failure.

I can click the home and sleep button, but the home button does nothing, and the sleep button works but when I touch it again, it goes straight back to the app I was in,
    Can someone please help me?

A reset should help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Applications -> Search for your file format, .zip, for instance,
Select ''' Always ask''' from drop down menu.

  • My "Themes" page does not appear when I play my DVD- it goes straight to playing the slideshow.

I have never been on this forum so I am not sure what I am doing exactly. I went to the Apple store today to learn how to use iDVD. We created a "Themes" page and when I view my slideshow in iDVD everything plays together but once I burned it to a DVD and played the DVD on my computer and DVD player at home the "Themes" page does show up- it just goes straight into playing the slideshow.

Check in the Map mode of your iDVD project to see if the slideshow has been dragged intoi the blue "Auto Play" bin.  If that's the case then that's why the findished product begins playing automatically.  Just drage it out of that bin, save as a disk image and play the disk image with DVD Player to see if the menu shows up as expected. If it does then you can burn the disk image to disk using Disk Utility as 4x or less.

  • My project is set up with "rotation" menu intro, video, and then "rotation" on end, however, when you put DVD disc in DVD player, menu does not come up on front end, it goes straight to the video.  Is there some step I am missing?

Open your iDVD project and go into the Map mode.  Made sure the autostart bin on the left is empty.
If you find a video in that bin remove it, save the project as a disk image and check the disk image with DVD Player.  Then you can burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utilitiy at 4x for optimal burning.

  • TS3276 I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone

I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone help?

Thank you for heading me in the right direction.  I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information).   I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)??  In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port:  465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer."  Authentication:  Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in.  After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message:  "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.).  The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587.  Verify your account settings and try again."  That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails.  I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me.  Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input!  Much appreciated!

  • Incoming messages going straight to trash

Suddenly my Incoming email messages are going straight to the trash. I start my computer. I have nothing in the inbox it is completely empty. If I click on sent, those messages remain and if I click on trash all my new messages and anything that was previously in my inbox is now there. I drag them to the inbox, but I do not want to have to keep doing this every morning. I am running OS 10.6.8 on an iMac. I have Mail 4.6 After reading some online stuff, I tried repairing permissions after safe reboot. I deleted User/Your UserName/Library/Mail/Enveope.index and rebooted, but did not work. Clicked on inbox and selected rebuild also did not work. I have no rules set up, but the apple default which I unchecked as well. Our email did switch from a POP to an IMAP, but this did not start happening until a few weeks after that change occured. First few weeks after the change no problems so I am not sure if it is related. The old POP account is still listed there, but it has not received anything since the day of the switch. I am going to delete that and see if that helps. Any other ideas?

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Just locked my Macbook Pro and now it goes straight to recovery.

I just tried if the lock Mac works on the find my iPhone. My laptop froze and restarted. Now every time I boot, my laptop goes straight to recovery HD. I tried holding option when rebooting and when I chose macintosh HD, it still goes to recovery. It doesn't even ask me for the passcode. My windows bootcamp still works and my mac files are still ok. Apparently I can run my laptop properly but only through safe mode. What should I do?

    Restore From Time Machine Backup
    Reinstall OS X
    Get Help Online
    Disk Utility
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
    You are running 10.5.8
Did you try booting off your Install disk holding the c key down.  From here you can get to the drop down menu just a few clicks in (you are not going to install) and run  the Disk Utility>Repair Disk.  See if it will let you do this.

  • Will not start on New Install. Opening goes straight to Crash reporter

Will not start on New Install. Clicking on icon does not open a window and goes straight to Crash reporter. I cannot access a window to try to open in safe mode (unless there is another method than outlined in the help article).
I run Windows XP and trying to install the latest 15.0.1 version. Before install, I did disable my Symantic virus protection. I have never used Firefox and would like to try it, but I'm having little success so far to even get started.
Please let me know if anyone has any other ideas or need more information from me.

hello Singyt, the bug report associated to this kind of crash indicates that it might be a malware related issue.
your crash report also shows a file named "urixalog.dll", which doesn't turn up any search hits on google, which is also slightly suspicious. could you search for that file on your pc and upload it to a site like virustotal.com in order to analyze it.
please do a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].
[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]
edit: the bug report also suggests that a monitoring program named spector pro/360/... which essentially acts like malware, might cause the issue. in case you have that installed please remove it. otherwise [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes%20when%20you%20open%20it#w_backdoor-ulrbot-c here] would be a removal guide for urixalog.dll

  • My MBP doesnt boot after update / Prohibition sign flashes twice and then goes straight to OX Utilities

    Hello all,
I thought I would never be here, but I am.
After updating iTunes and Memory Clean in App Store (nothing unusual) my MAC stopped booting properly.
    MBP / early 2011 / Mountain Lion
It shows the Apple logo flashing twice the prohibiting sign (cancel circle), after that it goes straight to the OS X Utilities.
    Note:
    - It recognizes the HD and the Recovery partition.
    - Verify permission shows a lot of /Applications/iTunes issues, but I have repaired like 5 times and still showing issues.
    - Hardware test passed OK.
    - Repair disk, no issues.
    - Shift (safe mode) doesn't work (lot of flashing ? folder, apple logo, etc).
    - PRAM restarted, twice.
I can't reinstall or launch the ML installer, when I go trough the install process which mandatory requires Internet connection and AppStore login, it states: This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.
Please help me, I'm desperate this is my production machine and I'm travelling.
    What I'm missing?

You cannot reinstall Mountain Lion from the App Store, but you can install Mavericks which is free and will run on your computer. Here's what you do:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How can I save reader to a disk, it goes straight to download?

I have a computer that is running Windows XP Home edition and is not connected to the internet.  I need to put a copy of the Acrobat Reader on it.  I have attempted several times on another computer to save the program to a disk, but there is only one option on the website - click download.  When I do it goes straight to downloading on the computer I'm working on, without giving me a choice of location.  What can I do to get this thing to disk so I can carry it to the other computer?

    Download it from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ instead.

  • Acrobat subscription stopped working, each time I open it goes straight to the purchase page

Acrobat subscription stopped working, each time I open it goes straight to the purchase page

    Hi Poepholl,
I've checked your account, and nothing seems to be out of order with your Acrobat Pro subscription. Are you launching Acrobat on your desktop? If, for some reason, your subscription has reverted to trial mode, I would expect you'd be presented with the trial dialog box. From that dialog box, you should be able to click License this Software, and then sign in with your Adobe ID and password. If that's not the case, please let us know.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Computer randomly goes straight to sleep

Okay...so with still having this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16362086#16362086
Ever since I perfomed PRAM (with is holding down those keys until you hear two startup chimes) sometimes when I'm using my macbook pro it randomly (mostly it's after I had fiddled with the adaptor) it goes straight to sleep, then I rewake it, and then the screen goes blank like it's shut down.. I turn on the power button and it still doesn't start up but makes a "pew" sound...when I finally press the power button a few more times it finally starts back up. Does anyone know what could be this problem and any steps I could do to fix it? I feel like I'm trying to do everything to fix my computer but trying to solve it makes more errors... sigh.
And, with the charging issue that I posted above...could a brief power outage do harm to my computer? I have noticed the problems happening after the brief outage we had a few weeks ago. I don't know how it would have done that much harm though.

Will other 3rd party services or AASPs do it for less than the ones at official Apple Stores?
There's always someone cheaper . . . but Macs are . . . unique. I wouldn't trust mine to just anybody (actually, I won't trust mine to anyone at all, I try to do the work myself, unless it's under warranty).
I also wonder if it could just be a loose connection in the laptop...that's what I'm hoping anyway, just something that could be easily fixed.
    Definitely could be.
I am also hoping it has nothing to do with how the laptop is controlling the temperature. How do you check logs on the Macbook for errors?
    Applications > Utilities > Console
Also, just because the Genius says it's the logic board...does it always mean their right about it?
I always put "genius" in quotations marks. They're only human.
To do disk utility is there more info about how to do it some where?
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in the panel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Verify Disk > click Verify Disk at bottom of main window. If a message comes up saying you need to repair your disk:
Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD which will need to be replaced (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.
I'm kind of unfamiliar about it and worried I'll mess it up. Is it easy to mess it up? lol
Pretty tough to mess up, so not to worry.

  • Itunes download does not start but goes straight to thankyou window

Can anyone help with this problem? I click on the itunes download button and it goes straight to the thankyou window with no evidence of any downloading starting at all.

One of the 3 is most likly blocking you, Its your firewall, antivirus, or the browser you use, like its filters or pop up blockers.
I've seen this issue come up before for Firefox users, and you have to turn off one of the filters, I have forgot which one it is tho
