Clicking on MacBook

Just curious, is tapping the MacBook touchpad with one finger the same as clicking the mousepad? I have a Dell laptop (unfortunately), and when I tap the touchpad with one finger, it's the same as actually pressing the left-click button.
I know that using two fingers does a right click, but just needed to be sure that a one-finger tap does a left-click.
Thanks guys!

I believe that tapping is turned off by default in the system preferences... so it may not work when you first turn it on... but as mentioned, just go into your system preferences and enable "tap to click". This will also enable you to do the two finger right click.

  • Ensemble clicking on Macbook Pro

Hi. I've got a Macbook Pro (2011) and just bought the Apogee Ensemble. I'm working on Pro Tools 10 on Lion (10.7.2) I've updated all drivers but the sound keeps clicking a LOT! Almost kind of distorted. I've read in several forums that back in 2008-2009 there were problems with the Lucent Firewire chipset and that Texas Instrument's chipset had no problem. I've checked my Macbook Pro (by holding command+s down at startup) that my computer has the Lucent chipset. Apple support line in Denmark say that there shouldn't be any problems with that chipset.
Does anyone know if it could still be the problem with the chipset even though it's a new computer and maybe with a modified Lucent chipset!? I thought Apogee and Apple were a good match but maybe I'm wrong!?
Hope someone has a solution to this?

You show that you are using OS 10.4.11. There is a software update if you are using 10.5.x which is supposed to address this issue. I say 'supposed to' because I still seem to have a problem of the first click not always registering. I don't recollect whether I had this problem with 10.4.11 on my MBP. I think this update should show in Software Update if appropriate & it is available as a download at: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookmacbookprokeyboardfirmwareupdate10 .html

  • Unresponsive clicks in MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with snow leopard (10.6.6) in it. Lately my macbook is somehow unresponsive to clicks wheter using mouse ot not. I sometimes need to click twice for it to get a reaction. Please help me solve this.

I'm also experiencing this problem, but somewhat more extreme. With my MacBook Pro (bought in August 2009, 13" version) I suddenly can't left-click anymore. I can scroll and right-click, but left-clicking and dragging is impossible. I can only use left-click when I set 'Tap to click' in my Trackpad preference pane.
I can't recall exactly when this started, but I think it's been little over a week for me. It seems that my problem occurred after I installed the Bootcamp drivers for my Windows 7 partition, but this could be coincidence because I don't think the installation should have an effect on OS X.
It doesn't seem there's something stuck under my Trackpad and also the sound when pressing the trackpad hasn't changed noticeably.

  • Right-click on Macbook Air (early 2008) with Windows XP?

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Air, early 2008 edition. I installed Windows XP Pro SP3 using Boot Camp, and everything is working perfectly, except tap-to-click and right-clicking using the trackpad. Both do not work at all, I've tried two-finger tap as well as three-finger tap for the right-click. I tried downloading the update driver from the Apple site, but it said "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed." Obviously, the update is meant for the late 2008 edition MacBooks.
One other interesting point is that Control Panel - Boot Camp does not have a "Trackpad' tab.
Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

On reflection, all I probably need is the previous Trackpad driver; a prior version that is compatible with early 2008 edition of the MacBook Air. I have been unable to find this driver on the Apple site, would anyone know how I can go about getting this driver?

  • Right mouse click on macbook too easy

The right click on my macbook trackpad has become to easy to click. I just have to slide my finger over it and it already clicks.
Its like its sunken. I never droped it, and usually dont use because i have a usb mouse.
Is there anything I can do to repair it?

it's pretty much a convention not to put a link directly to the installer (the .bin, the .dmg file) when you post on any forum. the reason is so anyone who clicks the link has the chance to decide whether the file is safe or not, or whether she/he wants to download it or not

  • Right click on macbook in bootcamp?

is there a way to right click with button combos like on OS X cause I don't always have my mouse with me like when I traveling I leave it at home. its kind of a nuisance to not be able to right click at all without a mouse. thats the only thing Apple needs to do something about on their computers
    ADD A RIGHT CLICK BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Touch click with Macbook Pro

Used to be, about two hours ago, when I was still in OS 10.5.x, that a light tap on the trackpad allowed me to activate a window or a command. Now that I've downgraded to 10.6.1 (fool!), some of the time I have to make a physical hard click on the trackpad to activate what used to be a pleasurable light tap. Anyone else?

Oh, never mind. It seems that sometimes one requires a tap and sometimes one requires a heavier click on the trackpad. For instance, in using the OS install disk, it requires the double click on the trackpad. I don't get it and I don't really think its much of an issue, so I'm marking this solved, even though it isn't

  • My left click on macbook pro is hard to press

Recently my brother open up a can of pop and it went everywhere. Nothing splashed on the the computer but a little drop went near the track pad...not sure if anything seeped in but is there anything that can be done??

    Try checking your settings out.
    System Preferences -> Trackpad
Go ahead and check the settings. If everything is fine, it might be a hardware problem.
Go contact Apple Support if you cannot find any solutions.

  • Macbook Pro crashes on mouse click

    Hello everyone,
I've been having this problem for two weeks now and it's happening more and more frequently!
    Info:
    Macbook Pro 15'' mid 2011
Mac OS X Mavericks / Mac OS X Yosemite
Hard Drive: Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD
    8 GB Ram
    THE ISSUE:
Every so often at a random time, at the exact moment I perform a mouse click, my macbook pro crashes.
That instant, the screen goes dark ( like I just ripped out it's battery ) and reboots automatically, saying "your mac restarted because of a problem".
Like I said, it's gotten more and more frequent! ( 5 times a day or more now... )
    WHAT I'VE TRIED:
So the problem occurred in Mavericks, so I figured I'll install Yosemite ( on a new partition ) and see if it's any better.. Well it isn't...
Same problem, same type of crash.
Then I figured maybe it's related to my magic mouse.. So i turned it off and used a third party mouse. No luck! It also happened while using the Macbook's trackpad.
I also haven't found anyone with a similar problem online so far, so if any of you have experienced something like this or know what might be causing it, i'd be grateful for any information!
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • MacBook (Basic) fully frozen, NOTHING WORKS!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I was using my MacBook to type out some work on Office:mac, while simultaneously using iTunes to update my iPod 5G, 60GB. The iPod seemed to have finished updating (the "Do Not Disconnect" animation stopped, and i was back to my main menu), so i pulled out my iPod.
MacBook then froze, with iTunes and Word still open. The colourful spiral mouse thing is active, and i can still move the mouse. However, there is nothing i can click. MacBook doesn't respond to the power button, and refuses to turn off. I unplugged it from the mains power adapter, and waited for it to drain, but when I checked it this morning (plugged it back in) it loaded, and started just where it left off, in a permanent crashed state!!
Force Quit doesnt work, what else can I do?!?!?!
    Thanks for your anticipated help!

Thanks, yeah I had to remove the battery and DC to get it sorted. It's up and running now. Thanks a lot!
Turns out that my iPod library is messed up - some tracks cant play! I'm guessing its related to this problem - due to unwanted disconnecting, but it WILL be fixed if i DO update it properly, right?
    Thanks again!

  • HT2518 not able to access files on macbook air from windows pc

    Dear All,
I have resorted to all the options. I want to access macfiles from windows PC. I trieds out all the options. I went to system preferences> selected "file sharing">selected the folder>selected the user name and password for windows account.
But when i click the macbook on the network from windows pc, it prompts me to enter user name and password. When i do the needful it says denied access. I tried to access macbook from two different windows PC one running XP and the other windows 7. The funny thing is that this access is sometimes allowed "say 10% of the time" using the user name and password and sometimes its not allowed.
Another interesting thing is that i am able to connect to windows PC from Macbook but not the reverse option. Somebody pl suggest a way out.
    Regards
    KMurthi

i have done all that. Both the systems are in the same "WORKGROUP" folders.
The peculiar thing is smtms i am able to access the contents of shared folder of Mac but most of the time after i enter d username n passwd the screen just gives the message connecting to......Can this be due to communication issues b/w Mac and windows operating systems. Anyways i am facing lot of problems because of this..Interestingly i can access windows folders easily through MACA system by clicking "GO" and then "CONNECT TO SERVER" path....
Pl let me knw if anyone has any clue on how to sort this issue.
    Thanks for the earlier message

  • Loud Fan MacBook Pro 13"

My macbook fan is so loud and I am just on the internet with one tab open.  I closed all of my other apps on my dock and it is still loud.  Is there something wrong?

Sometimes this problem can be solved with an SMC reset:
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery (to remove the battery -  click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro)
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Still having problems? Replace steps 6 and 7 with the following:
    Reconnect MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer,
    Then reconnect the battery.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • I used to right click on a picture....

So, I got my MB today. I have a great picture a friend sent thru gmail and I want that to be my background. When I used windows I used to right click and it gave the option of saving as background....what do I do now I am completely NEW to MAC and havent a clue! HELP!!!

You can set up your MacBook to do a function similar to "right clicking". Go to System Preferences, select Keyboard & Mouse, under Trackpad Gestures select the box that says "place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click". Now when you touch the trackpad with two fingers and click, a "menu window" appears with options similar to right clicking!
