Clicking Photo Settings Button Changes Hue of image

I have been struggling with this for some time.
When I import a jpg file ( file created from exporting from iPhoto ) to iMovie, it looks fine on the preview window until I click the Photo Settings button. The images hue chages to an orang/red. All I want to do is add the Ken Burns Effect.
At first I thought it was a problem with the iMovie project, as I have done this in the past with no issues. So I created a new project, added just the jpg and attempted to do the Ken Burns Effect on it.. once again the hue changed to the orange/red.
Then I though.. the iMove Prefs must be corrupt. I deleted the com.apple.imove.plist .. or whatever it's called from both prefrences directories ( root and home ) The started a new project again. imported the jpg attemted the Ken Burns Effect.. no dice.. same orange/red hue.
I wish I could blam iMovie and then get some brainy apple engineer to fix it form me, but alas.. other jpg files can be imported and Ken Burns works fine on them.
What is different about the jpg's?
The ones that don't work were actually dv stills made from quicktime pro, that were imported to iPhoto and then exported as jpg.
The one that work were created by the digital camera. ( original format is jpg )
Strange... eh?
I even tried opening the exported jpg file with apple preview and saving as a psd, and use that in iMovie.. but I still get the same orange/red hue change when I bring up the Photo Settings dialog in iMovie.
Why does this happen?
How can I fix it?

Just a side note..
I just discovered that I do not have the problem on my PowerMac G4 450 that was upgraded to 1Ghz Sonet Chip. I believe the Key is my Graphics Card.
My Graphic Card in my Old Mac is 32 Meg Radeon card. ( does not support Core Video )
This makes me believe that he proble is deeper that the iLife apps. I believe the issue is with Apple Core Video and how it handles images.
Without Core Video, my images no longer get the red/Orange hue in iMovie.
Some more tests are needed, but at least I have a work around for now.

  • My "Show Photo Settings" button not working.

The button is light grey and won't function. I'm sure it's an easy fix and I just am forgetting something obvious.

There must be a photo selected in the Photos list — or a previously-imported photo clip in the Timeline — for the Show Photo Settings button to be enabled.

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Scrambled image when I poke the "Show Photo Settings" button

    See the pdf file http://www.kvanderstel.com/iMovie_problem.pdf
It doesn't matter is the image is a scan or a digital picture from a camera. When it does it, I click on the desktop and the image clears, I click back on iMovie and it does it again. If I click on the "Hide Photo Settings" repeatedly, it often clears up. It's really quite random, but it's really annoying.

    Ok I'm screwed.
I moved the iMovie files out of the Receipts folder and then found my original OS X disk. I selected only iMovie to install, but not hardly any runs on my mac now. No iTues, no iMovie, no iDVD, no print drivers and a bunch of my applications all seem dead. The icon bounces a time or two then silence, nothing else happens.
I then tried to reinstall some. Cache Out X for example, but even then nothing happens.
When I print to my ip1600 Canon, it does print but then I get "The application PrinterProxy has quit"

  • I'm having problems with Gmail. Nothing happens when I click the settings button, and Gmail often fails to recognize when the checkbox next to an email is selected. What's up?

When I render the page in Internet Explorer using IE Tab Plus everything works just fine.

Nevermind...just had to do a full reinstall. That means going to firefox folder on my computer, running helper.exe from the uninstall folder, and unchecking the box that lets you save your themes, addons, bookmarks, etc. The reinstalled version works perfectly. Now I just have to find all those addons again...

  • I am trying to create a button in flash that will display 4 separate images at the same time when clicked.  I can't get the images to stay on when I take the mouse of the button.  I need the actions script code to make this happen.

I am trying to create a button in flash that will allow the user to click on the button and 4 separate images show up at the same time.  I can get the images to appear when I click the button but they will not stay on the screen.  I need to know what code I use to make the images stay once the button is clicked, then I need to know exactly where I place that code.  It does not appear to be possible to add the action code to the buttons layer since each time I add a new layer I just get another "up" "over" "down" and "hit" line.
    Thank you in advance

It is not clear how you are trying to realize this from your description.  If you are trying to create this within a button symbol it will not work.  Explain your approach and if there is code involved, show what you have so far.

  • Photo Settings in iMovie HD

When I click on "Photo Settings" to change the Ken Burns settings...the current photo that I am trying to change goes black which prevents any change to photo settings.
I downloaded iMovie HD since iMovie 08 does not allow many alterations.
    Any advise?
    Thanks.

Hi amf62 - there are lots of topics in this forum related to creating slideshows. There is much debate about what is the best method - using iphoto, or imovie, or one of the third-party apps. like Photo-to-Movie, Still Life, or Foto Magic.
And synchronising with music has its own set of topics!
A search through the forum's search facility will be helpful, but here's one to sart you off:

Karl Petersen is perhaps the best forum helper to give you advice on this.
One of the most important issues has to do with maintaining the best possible picture quality. If you import with the KB function turned on, then a serious bug is avoided. If you import with it off, then when you send your imovie to iDVD via the imovie DVD button, you will be asked if you want the project to render. DON'T choose that option, as it badly affects picture quality.
Also note that the quality you see on screen is usually not as good as the final quality.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Show Photo Settings" Bug

In v6.01, I can drag a batch of jpegs to the edit line,, a one at a time I can click on the picture, Click on the Media button,, click on the "Show Photo Settings" button and the Preview window goes black. No picture appears. The only workaround I have found is to delete the picture and drag a new one in.
This has happened on one,, or several pictures in a row.
    Save,, Save,, Save........

Not emptying the trash is a terrible solution. As the imovie becomes too big to fit on a DVD unless the trash is gone!
There's another (better) workaround that's been discovered since this Topic began. It rescues iMovie's own copy of the source image so the image is available later when you want to Update the clip. The workaround also lets you empty the iMovie trash to discard OTHER items.
When a photo is imported with the Ken Burn checkbox ON, iMovie immediately puts its own copy of the photo in the iMovie Trash. You'll see the Trash bulge by 117K or so. (It shouldn't go in the Trash, but it does.)
The workaround is to immediately open the iMovie Trash window and drag the image to the Clips pane. It's no longer in the Trash so it won't be discarded when you empty the Trash.
if you Update the clip later, the Update will (successfully) use the image in the Clips pane to Update the clip.

  • Photo Settings Grayed Out

I am creating about a 20 minute photo slide show with music. Suddenly, in the middle of working on the project, the "Show Photo Settings" button has grayed out for all but those photos that have the Ken Burns effect. The only way I can get it back is to delete the photo and reimport a new photo. That could get tedious with 200 photos. Is there any other way to fix this?

Yes, I think you've nailed it. When we send an iMovie project to iDVD, iMovie will offer to render any UNrendered photo clips. That includes photos imported with the Ken Burns checkbox OFF. (Those imported with the Ken Burns checkbox ON are rendered by Ken Burns, so iMovie won't ask to render them again.)
After iMovie renders them on their way to iDVD, those clips are no longer editable with the Photo Settings window. So that would explain the behavior you see.
There's another problem. There's a bug in iMovie that renders the photos with very poor quality when rendering it for iDVD. Photos acquire the "jaggies". Photos with certain kinds of content — straight lines, lap siding on buildings, roof lines, power lines — can look pretty terrible.
Once those photos have been damaged, the only way to repair them is to re-import the photos.
The jaggies can be avoided by doing any ONE of the following:
    1. When iMovie asks permission to render the images for iDVD, do NOT grant permission. Then iDVD will render the photos.
    2. Turn the Ken Burns checkbox ON when importing the image. Then Ken Burns will render them and iMovie won't ask later. (Note that Ken Burns can be set to have no zoom or pan. It looks like a still image, but it has been rendered into a clip.
    3. Instead of Sharing the project with iDVD, use iDVD to import the iMovie project to the iDVD project. (Dragging the iMovie project into the iDVD project window is one way to import it.)

  • Photo settings displaying black preview with all pictures - please help!

I started working on my first "real" movie last night - got got my iMac 2 weeks ago. Before I was just messing around trying to learn the software. I got 20 pictures done (out of 400), I know that doesn't sound like a whole lot-- got done, but anyways. Things were working and looking great! I was really starting to enjoy iMovie!
Today however I went back to my computer, (didn't shut down iMovie last night) and now the preview screen of the image when you play with the Ken Burns effects in the photo settings isn't displaying the image, instead it's just displays a black screen. I tried this with a newly imported image and an image I had worked on last night using the Kens Burns effects, but it displays the same results... a black scree
I have tried selecting all of the images, music and transitions copying them and thinking I could paste them into a new movie, but of it does the same thing in the new movie. I have also tried to import my movie into a new movie, shut down both iMovie and my computer. Nothing is working.
Because I'm on a very tight deadline (Tuesday), I decided I would just start over completely. After I got 10 pictures done, it did it again in the new movie!
I bought my imac because of all the great things people have told me about iMovie (I've only worked on Windows in the past) I really like my iMac but these problems have really frustrated me!!!
    Responses would be GREATLY appreciated!

It's not clear from your description whether this has happened, but be aware there's a bug in iMovie 6 that will cause the black screen after you empty the iMovie Trash.
iMovie 6 (incorrectly) discards its copy of the source image when you empty the Trash. It stores the copy inside the project when you import the photo. After you empty the Trash the image is no longer available. You can't UPDATE the clip. When you do, it turns black.
So if photos in the Photo list import properly but the photos of EXISTING clips are not updated correctly, that may be why. The solution is to not empty the iMovie Trash.
In addition, it's necessary for the disk the project resides on to use the Mac OS Extended disk format. If you use an external drive that has a different format, iMovie can't properly save to the drive.
It's also possible there are third-party iMovie plug-ins and QuickTime add-ons installed on your Mac causing problems for iMovie.
    Those factors are discussed here:

  • Show Photo Settings stays grey

I'm trying to edit photos in my movie. I'm trying to use "Show Photo Settings". However it remains grey for some photos while it works for others????? I do not have any transitions or text in these photos, I can't figure out why I can't get to their photo settings? Can anyone help?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If the photo clip has been edited in any way — you've added a special effect, for example — iMovie no longer considers it a photo clip.
With the clip selected in the Timeline, choose Advanced > Revert Clip to Original. It may be necessary to do that that more than once to revert the clip all the way back to the original. Now when you select the clip iMovie should enable the Photo Settings button.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

I have a 13" macbook from 2009 and for some reason can no longer change my desktop image by just clicking on an image in system prererences>I-Photo. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Your Desktop Picture settings and Dock items are stored in the files
    /Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and
    /Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
in the "Preferences" folder in your user library. This looks like the system has trouble to write to these files. Check the permissions on your user library and remove the above files from your user library, then log off and on again.
Your user library is hidden in Lion and Mt. Lion. To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Select "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar and hold down the alt/option key, until you see the "Library"  in the drop-down menu. Double click it to open a Finder window, so you can browse the files inside.

  • How can I change to location of pictures folder? I want to use a backup hardrive to store my photos and music on but still want to be able to go to the finder and click the photos/music button. How can I do this.

I want to use a backup hardrive to store my photos and music on but still want to be able to go to the finder and click the photos/music button. In windows i would just change the properties of the given library folder. How can I do this in Lion?

Move "~/Pictures", or if just iPhoto pictures, "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library", to the new location.
If you moved iPhoto, open iPhoto with the option key held, like Tony T1 writes. Select "Other Library" and navigate to the new location.
To add the new location to the sidebar in Finder, just drag it onto the sidebar.
Same process for iTunes, or whole music folder.

  • No image when click on "show photo settings"

So...I've added all of my pics into an iMovie file, but for some reason, with this particular movie, I can't edit my photos once I click on "show photo settings". It's just a black screen but the cursor still runs across for the ken burns effect... any ideas why this would happen?
    MacBook

There's a bug in iMovie 6 which discards iMovie's copy of any photos you've imported to the project. When you empty the Trash the photos are discarded, so Updating a clip creates a black clip.
The solution is to re-import the photos, then don't empty the iMovie Trash.
