Clicking "Save" brings up "Save as" box - Adobe Reader X

In our production environment, our end users open PDFs through our application. They then edit the PDF and click "Save." Prior to Reader X, this would automatically save to the correct folder supplied by our application. Now, however, it always displays a "Save as" box and the user must choose where to save it. We can't have this at all as the file structure should be transparent to our users and we don't want them accidentally saving over another file or deleting one. What can I change in the settings to fix this?

Automatic (scripted) save to disk arbitrary locations are disallowed by Reader X for security reasons.

has the details.
If the environment is controlled, if you white list the folder that is being saved to, the prompt will longer be forced. Download the Application security guide from http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/security/Application+Security+Library and look at chapter 3.6.2

    I am now unable to print pdf documents. The message on screen says I have not selected any pages to print, even though the bullet point saying 'All' pages  has been clicked. I have recently upgraded to adobe reader XI, could that be the problem? I also cannot sign in to Adobe Export pdf now either. It says 'error occured while signing in'!

    Open Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences | Documents: change View Documents in PDF/A Mode to Never.

  • Form save works in Adobe Reader 8 but not in Adobe Reader 9

    We have an FDA form that customers fill out and save in Adobe Reader.  The form worked perfectly with Reader 8, but we are seeing the following Adobe Reader error with Reader 9:
    "This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer in this Reader version."
    Also, in Reader 8, the purple bar at the top reads:
    "Please fill out the following form. You can save data typed into this form."
    However, in Reader 9, the purple bar reads:
    "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form.
    Please print the completed form if you would like a copy for your records."
    The same PDF form was used for both readers.
    Does anyone have any ideas?  Did Adobe really disable this capability in Reader 9?  Their website states you can save forms with Reader 9.

    Adobe Reader 9 can't save the old FDA forms. FDA must update their forms.

  • Cannot file, save as in Adobe Reader 9.1.2

    I currently access my electricity and gas bill online and both of these are always displayed in pdf format.  Unfortunately, since updating to reader 9.1.2, I am no longer able to see the toolbar menu, normally above the picture icon toolbar menu, so the File, Save As option is not visible.  Therefore, I can no longer save my electricity and gas bills to my PC but instead can only print them which is slightly defeating the whole object of having my bills online!  Can anyone explain why I am not able to see the File, Save As option at all?  I have asked my Electricity and Gas provider and they tell me that they can see it fine at their end.  They are currently using Adobe Reader version 7.

    Thank you very much for your response but unfortunately none of the suggested solutions have worked.  When pressing F8 then F8 again, the picture icon toolbar toggles between not being shown and then being shown again so no Save options appear.  When pressing F9, nothing happens at all.  When pressing Ctrl+Shift+S an adobe message appears in the middle of the screen stating the following "This document does not allow you to save any changes you have made to it unless you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, Pro 9 or Pro Extended 9.  You will only be saving a copy of the original document.  Do you want to continue?"  It then prompts you with "OK" or "Cancel".  Upon pressing "OK" absolutely nothing happens.   I have seen this type of message many times before when trying to save pdf files and it has successfully saved the file but for some reason nothing happens in this version of adobe reader.  Do you have any other thoughts at all as to how to solve this?

  • Using "save as" in Adobe Reader to save a PDF document in Alfresco

    Is it possible to use the "save as" option in Adobe Reader to save a PDF file directly in Alfresco?

    This is the scenario:
    When I open any PDF document, there is only one option to save this document: "save a copy". What I am looking for is a way to connect with Alfresco server in order to choose my target folder inside Alfresco and then save the document in it.

  • 'Save as' in Adobe Reader app? (Samsung Galaxy tab)

    My tech will be using a Samsung Galaxy tab installed with Adobe Reader to fill-in forms I created from Adobe Acrobat X Pro.  We are using DropBox to 'share' the files.  The only option I am missing is a 'save as' feature on the Adobe Reader app.  I've already extended all the rights of the pdf forms to Reader so according to all the forums, he should have full functionality.  HOW CAN I 'SAVE AS' once he has filled out the form so he can use it for multiple equipment???

    I don't believe this is possible. You might want to try to have each individual email you the file once they complete the form.

  • Orientation issues when using Save As in Adobe Reader X

    I am using Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) and any time I change the orientation of the PDF file, when I do FILE - SAVE AS - PDF and save the PDF under a different name, and then OPEN the newly created PDF, the orientation reverts back. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 10.1.2. Should I go back to 9?? It's Windows 7 64-bit and I am running this as ADMIN.

    Reader cannot rotates pages in a document, but it can rotate the view. This is not something that can be saved. Adobe Acrobat can rotate pages and save the document, but not Reader.

  • Hyperlinks in excel don't allow user to save file in adobe reader

    I created a fillable form for users who have adobe reader. Form works. Users can fill the form in and save it (with same name). When users try to access this same form thru a hyperlink in excel, they are not allowed to save the filled in form using the same name. Can this be corrected?

    Hello,
    Adobe Acrobat is used to design and edit forms, while Adobe Reader is only for reading.
    Once you reader extend any form, actually you enable some usage rights on that particular form and once you open that form in Reader, you will be able to perform the action that you have enabled.
    So the first thing is the end user must have Reader not Acrobat, otherwise no use of reader extending the form.
    Now to your question..
    If you design form in LiveCycle designer, you can use validate element to prevent save, put this in XML source like below.
    <config>
       <present>
          <validate>preSave</validate>
       </present>
    </config>
    If you are designing form in Acrobat itself, you can use script to disable menu items.
    For details please look in this blog.

  • How to save it by Adobe Reader

    After I edited by Acrobat Pro XI, then I open it by Adobe Reader.
    However, after I fill all the blank that I would like to save it as a file.
    But I could print it only, but no save it.
    How can I save it after I fill all the blank by Adobe Reader?
    Please help and answer me asap.
    Thank you in advance.

    Before Reader 11, in order to save a modified form in Reader the document must be Reader-enabled. Exactly how you do this depends on which version of Acrobat you have, but in Acrobat 11 it's:
    File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)

  • Unable to open some pdf files by clicking on them, but can open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0.

    When I click directly on some pdf files which have been saved in My Documents, I get an error message: "Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the end user license agreement."  Yet, I can open those same files from Adobe Acrobat, they open easily.  This has only happened with PDF files saved from two credit card companies; my bank PDFs and other pdfs can be opened without first opening Adobe Acrobat.  Is there some security block I need to undo or ??  (I am the administrator of these files.)  I have done a reinstall and a repair, but this didn't help.  (I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.0 on Windows 7)

    Glad to know that it worked.You can get more information about Protected Mode from the following link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html
    Although the issue you describe should not be related to the Protected Mode anyhow, but it seems that its a bug in the product.

  • Disable Right Click Context Menu in XP "OPEN WITH ADOBE READER 8"

    How can I eliminate the right click context menu "OPEN WITH ADOBE READER 8" in Windows XP?
    I have general familiarity with removing context menus. I see no option for this one in msconfig, or various context menu editors. I am unable to find a setting in Adobe Reader 8. If you know where the setting is, or have solved this problem, please let me know.
    Thanks,

    That would be the device Metadata from the print driver vendor. It's part of the Device Stage feature mainly for client OS.
    Here is some MSDN documentation on the feature.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/device-management
    If this is a print server, use the tools include by the print team if you are performing any management on the server.
    Printmanagement.msc
    The Devices UI is really about devices it's not designed for print management, the spooler team had minimal input on the UI design.

  • Why can't I save pdfs in Adobe Reader X (10.1.1)

    I am unable to save copies ofcertain pdfs in Reader X (10.1.1). The pdf (from an academic journal) opens without problem but when I click on the Save a copy icon in the tool bar nothing happens.  I'm told to click Shift+Ctrl+S and then get a "Bad Parameter " message.  If I click on the Print icon there is no problem.  I'm running Windows 7.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    I have searched the net and can not come up with anything else to support my problem.  Like you I have a user on my network who is using Adobe X.  When he downloads and runs certain files he is unable to save them, but can save them as a different file.  Adobe X displays a message along the lines that it has features disabled but if you save the file as a different one they will allow editing.  When this is done, nothing has changed.
    The user can not save files, that other users have no problem saving.  I did a full check, the files are not digitally signed, protected, and have no security measures attached to them at all.  A full reinstall does not help.
