Clicking/skipping at end of songs

When I import cds into the new iTunes I notice a clicking/skipping at end of songs. It's not on all my cds, but most. Seems to happen more on the newer cds. Never had this problem before.
It's driving me nuts.
Any ideas --should I just wait for an update?
Thanks.

Hey deadlylaugh,
If you are having an issue with iTunes for Windows playing your songs with poor sound quality at the end of songs, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Can't skip to end of song

I replaced an older lesser quality mp3 with a higher quality version by replacing the original file. I've done this hundreds of times without a problem. I'm using 10.6.1, and when I replaced a song in this manner yesterday, I am unable to click on the end of the timeline of the song. It will only advance to the :35 second mark left in the song. Fast forwarding through the song also stops at the same point. It refuses to advance beyond that :35 left mark except by letting it play normally. I know the new file advances fine in iTunes if I drag it into iTunes and create a duplicate version.
Is there some metadata from the old file that is causing iTunes to think the new file ends early because it is a few megs larger? Can this be cleared by a method other than reimporing the song new? I'd like to keep the Date Added, Ratings, and Play count info.
    Thanks.

I did some checking and this isn't a problem with just 10.6. Files I imported under 10.5.8 exhibit the same behavior.
There has to be some way to force iTunes to rescan a file. I tried dropping the folder with the songs onto iTunes. It duplicated a few of the songs having the problem, not all, but didn't fix the ones it didn't duplicate.

  • Certain songs in iTunes skip to the next song before the song ends

I purchased Incubus and Weezer songs a while ago, and when trying to listen to the entire songs with iTunes for Windows Vista, the songs skip to a different song/artist for some reason before they end. I then played at least one of the songs on my iPad, where they are already in my iTunes, and did not experience that particular problem for some reason.
Also, I don't know if it matters, but I almost always use shuffle mode when listening to music in iTunes.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the problem tracks from your iTunes library, close and then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Clicking at the end of each song

    I have a new 160gb ipod classic.
After syncing songs to it from my 1.5gig powerpc g4 laptop i get staticky pops or clicks at the end of every track that has silence for a few beats.
    What the ****?
No pop/clicks on my deck. Tracks from a mix of iTunes store, other downloads and CDs.
    Thanks.

As a follow up, I went to the Genius Bar for a bowl of Mensa Stew, but only got some tepid broth. Here's what transpired:
The girl I was speaking with suggested that the artifact was the software misinterpreting information between the cuts. It was only a theory. She had not heard of any other incidents to relay. First she suggested I rip as MP3's. I explained that wasn't an option for me. She listened to a few cuts on a CD I'd brought with, or rather the ends of the cuts and confirmed there was a problem with the rip. She went through my settings, and asked if I'd tried it with Error Correction turned off. I explained I hadn't and that I preferred to use it. She suggested attempting to rip one of the cuts with it turned off just to see how it did. We did that and no artifact was there. So her 'solution' was to either leave error-correction turned off always, or turn it off for those problem CD's that produce the artifact (I'd estimate about 5% do on my laptop). This did not explain why it was doing it, nor why my g5 tower, which is running a carbon-copied system with all the same iTunes settings, does not produce the artifact with Error-Correction turned on.
I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who's been having problems importing hi-rez files in iTunes. I know of at least one other instance where the artifact produced (on a MacBook) is dis-similar to mine in that it takes the form of brief electronic beeps moving from channel to channel.
    Anyone else?

  • My ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song

my ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song and it won't reset either, can anyone help?
    ipod click   Windows 2000

There are three possible causes of skipping music after playing a bit of the song:
    1) the music on your computer is munged
    2) the music was munged as it transferred to your iPod
    3) the iPod is 'confused'
Listen to a couple songs on your computer - the same ones that are skipping on your iPod. Are they okay? Scratch problem 1 - otherwise you have some reripping to do, assuming you haven't backed them up.
Next, reset your iPod. If the music is still skipping then the fastest fix is to use your restore/upgrade software to restore the iPod. This will erase the music and re-install the iPod's operating system which will take care of possible problems 2 and 3.
If the iPod isn't resetting - first make sure you are following the reset instructions for your iPod. There are different methods for different generations. Also, sometimes it is best to reset with the iPod plugged in. Finally, make sure you don't have the hold button set.

  • IPod Song skips to end, freezes for a time, then plays next song

    Name pretty much explains everything
certain songs on my iPod (so far, all by 1 band), will play the beginning, then when the song is about 20% done, it will skip to the last 2 seconds of the song and just stop for a while (i think it stops at 2 seconds for the same length that it skipped), then it will play the next song and it repeats
ive tried restoring my iPod, but it didnt work
    any ideas?

So what changed on your computer or iPod since it played correctly?
Can you right click on one of the songs in iTunes, select Get Info, and copy the results and paste them here?

  • Song skips to end in itunes

I've encountered this problem with 2 songs, both of them purchased from the iTunes music store. The song will play to a certain point ( :41 on one track and :56 on the other ), and then skip to the next song in the playlist. I can manually go past the problem area and play the rest of the song, but never from before that point. Both of these tracks were purchased Dec 30, 2005 or later, and have never sucessfully played all the way through.

i'm having the same problem. all songs i've purchased in the last week from the music store have been the same way. i've noticed them cutting out on itunes as well as my ipod. i can ff through the damaged part, but the songs still don't seem to play through. any solutions?

  • Skipping to the next song half way through...

Recently iTunes has started skipping to the next song when playing sometimes. It doesn't seem to be at set times, and if I go and replay the track it doesn't do it again, so I don't think it is an issue with that particular file, or the stop time. It is fully up to date (I updated it today, and it has done it before and after the update).
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

hi, if this is also happening to specific songs on your ipod and on itunes, then you have to check the songs. right click on the song on itunes > get info > options and then check your End Time if it's displaying the time (in minutes or seconds) of the song where it will be ending. or try to restart your ipod by pressing the menu button and the center button together for 6 seconds, and if it didn't work out then try to restore your ipod through itunes (make sure that all you music and files will be deleted during restoring your ipod to the factory settings) good luck

  • Skipping to the next song?

This is happening on my iTunes so I am sure that is why it is happening on my Nano. For some of my songs, the Nano is skipping to the next song half way through the previous song. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

  • HT1725 When I download a song from iTunes into my library, it often says it has downloaded, charges me for it, and on the song in my library shows the full playing time. However, when I play the song, at around halfway through it skips to the next song?

    i'm just wondering:
    a) why it does this
and b) how to stop it doing this, because it still charges me for the song :/

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • A song I purchased on iTunes is no longer playing on my iPhone 5 and skips straight to another song when I try to play it

I purchased a song on iTunes a few weeks ago, and have been playing it regularly on rotation on the iPod of my iPhone 5s.  Today, I went to play the song and it shows the album artwork, song title etc and I pressed the play button and it immediately skipped to another song and wouldn't play.  It won't play the song on my Mac either, when I try to.  I've just updated to iOS 7.1 on the phone, then backed up and synced to the Mac, then deleted all the music and re-installed music back to my iPhone but the song still won't play.  It also won't play on my Mac now (skips to the next song in the Library).  It's weird that I could purchase it, and play it for a few weeks and now, mysteriously, it's not playing.  I don't know what else I can do, as I've updated, re-synced, and re-booted and done everything I think I should have done.
    Help?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from the Music app on your iPod and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app (or the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes)
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads with the same problem then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support (we are fellow users here on these forums) : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • ITunes Skips Part of a song

    Hello,
When I play the song "William Tell Overture:Rossini", iTunes gets to about 2:52 then skips to the next song without playing the rest of this song. I can manually click in the area after 2:52 and play it but it just wont play by itself and it skips right there. By the way, this also happens on my mac so I assume its something wrong with iTunes or the song. Any help would be appreciated.
    Alex

I have been having the same problem with several songs. I have tried all of the 5Rs that Apple tells us to try, and the only thing that has worked is deleting the song from my ipod and moving it back. You see, the copy of the song in my library is fine; something happens when it gets moved to the ipod.

  • Many of my older ITunes downloads play perfectly well on my IMac but constantly skip to the next song or suddenly stop playing on my IPhone. The problem is the same with both my old 4s and my new 5s. I have tried deleting and re-downloading to the phones.

The problem is the same with both my old 4s and my new 5s  phones. I have tried deleting and re-downloading my music library to the phones, but the result is always the same.

    I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible.  When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip.  ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

  • Re: end of song icon when editing in GB-track markings

Strange thing--I followed the Bullets & Bones'Converting LPs to iTunes article through to making the split on the track, created a New Basic Track, selected its Solo button, and dragged the track to the new track. But the end of song marker (EoS) didn't appear! So, when I sent the track to iTunes, the entire recording was sent instead of just the track I wanted. I had made sure that I clicked the right thing and moved the playhead out of the way, but that little purple triangle didn't appear.
Is there something the article (a very good one, BTW) forgot to tell me?
    Jacinda

The End of Song marker probably still sits at the rightmost position it had (it doesn't move left if you shorten the song). So drag it back in, or even better, use the yellow cycle ribbon for finer adjustment.
