Clicking sound from fan

My pavilion g7 1002sa which is only 8 months old has always had an annoying clicking sound from when it was purchased from new.
I thought that it would disappear with usage, but after altering the BIOS Settings to disable the continual fan running option it is still
there. While on Skype friends have complained and described it like someone using an old typewriter in the background.
This question was solved.

Sounds like the fan needs to be replaced. Since you are under warranty that is going to mean sending it in for repair. Call HP Service and make arrangements to do so.

  • Weird clicking sound from PB

This is not my week. Just replaced the harddrive on my PB due to a crashed drive. Before I changed the drive, I had this clicking noice, actually sounds like its coming from the speakers. But I do not think so, as no matter what I do with the volume it remains the same. Well, I did not really pay any attention to it as I assumed it was the faulty drive that caused it. Now when I changed the drive, ran a hardware test and all is ok and the PB is spinning on I realize the clicking noise is not gone. It seems to be coming from the right top side of the computer. Its sporadic, but, it never starts from the beginning when you fire the computer up. Seems like the computer needs to get warm first. Could it be the fan? How would I go about finding the source of this clicking sound, and is there a way to see if you have a faulty fan? Hope someone could point me in the right direction as I do not know where to go from here.
    Thanks in advance

I just plugged in a pair of earphones, and the clicking stopped. So I guess it is the speakers after all then. Is there anything I can do to make it stop? The speakers are in good condition and are not cracked or damaged by any means. Just this clicking sound from the speakers.

  • Clicking sound from speakers!

I have problem with sound but this is strange one and i can't find solution anywhere... I am pretty good with computers and i usualy find solutions on internet when i have problem but this is something i can't solve by myself... My laptop is HP 355 G2 and i have Windows 10 installed on it but the same problem was on Windows 8.1 too... So after clean installation of Win10 the sound was good and worked normaly for 2-3 days and now i only hear a clicking sound from speakers when audio is playing but the strange thing is that when i pick up laptop from the table the sound start to work for few seconds and then the clicking sound comes back again, so i suspect that this has something to do with accelerometer which is built  in laptop for hard disc parking in case of drop or something like that... I tryed to uninstal/disable driver for accelerometer but windows install it again emidiatly after reboot, i tryed clean install few times and problem apears again and again... I just don't know anymore what to try to do in order to solve this so if anyone know anything about this please help... And i forgot to say that headphone jack work normaly and when i plug the headphones or external speakers in headphones jack the sound works but the clicking sound still comes out from built  in speakers... Thanks in advance and sorry for my English, it is not my native language and there is no support forums on my native language witch is Serbian...

  • Odd clicking sound from the speakers

There's a clicking sound from the speakers all the time, even when I'm not playing music. My PowerBook is only 1 week old, and I haven't dropped it or anything. Does anyone know what this is? Whenever I plug in my earphones or speakers, the sound stops.

I wish I knew. Having the same problem. Comes and goes. Presently it's happening and it BUGS. In the past I've tried disabling some of my extra scripts and software (especially extra preference panes), but you're probably not in the same boat there, having such a new machine.
Here's hoping someone has a solution!

  • Annoying Click Sound from HDD

Hi guys, a new mac user here!
Unfortunately, from the day I started using my macbook pro, I hear a very annoying click sound from my HDD.
    You can listen the recorded sound via the link below;

If you listen 01:07 and 01:08 seconds of this mp3 file closely in a very silent environment, you will hear the sound.
What do you think about it? Any ideas for this problem?

  • Early 2014 MBA clicking sound from bottom cover?

My 1 month old Macbook Air makes a clicking sound from the middle of the bottom cover when I have it in my hand, lap, or on my stomach. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Is it worth taking it in to the genius bar?
    Thanks:)

  • Clicking sound from iMac

From time to time my iMac keeps freezing with the spinning ball for 5-20 minutes, and there is a loud clicking sound from the upper left hand side of the iMac.
I have run hardware test, it took an hour or so, and there is nothing wrong with the harddrive. I have also reinstalles the whole system, but the problems are still there.
    What could it be?
The serial number is inside the range for the Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues, but I dont know if it has anything to do with this.

Okay, the same exact thing was happening to us. I was dreading the worse and backed up the important stuff. It was so bad sometimes that computer was becoming almost useless--naturally just out of Apple warranty. We took it to local shop and they checked and updated everything, and same things started when we got it home again. Another trip to shop and it ran fine there. The guy there said it was because too many wireless networks in our neighborhood were using the same default channel 6.
Impossible, I thought, but turned Airport off on iMacG5 and ran ethernet cable directly to Netgear router. The problems ALL disappeared! I will change channel on router--as soon as I figure out how--and try Airport on G5 again, but meanwhile everything's great. I'm seeing spinning balls on older iMac in other room so should solve problems in there as well. Hopefully this info can be of some help.
PS--Video and power issues are only for problems that are consistent--not intermittent as our G5 falls within same range.

  • Faint stuttering / clicking sound from 13" air

    Hi,
Just received a replacement for an air with the screen issues but I noticed there is a faint stuttering/clicking sound...Not sure where it is coming from but it's around the top left area of the keyboard. It is always on so it's definitely not the fan and it is pretty faint.
Just wondering if this is normal...Basically just curious if your fan is not on, how quiet is your air? Do you hear anything?
    thanks!

just hit the bottom of the computer with your fist, not too gently or too hard. No seriously this works, the fan is hitting something and just tap it and it starts up again and no clicking!!
    Thanks!  This worked!!!
My relatively new 11" MBA was having this faint clicking sound and iStat Pro reported Exhaust Fan at 0 rpm. The CPU temp got up to 82C!
I applied one moderate upwards slap with the palm of my hand toward the middle of the upper left (warm side) of my MBA and the fan started right up.  It is now working fine!

  • MSI GT60 - Clicking sound from GPU area

Hey guys, maybe someone has an idea what's happening here.
I purchased a MSI GT60-ONC (I'm pretty sure it's that model, anyways. GTX670m running Win764) at the end of August. Been running great, and love the machine, but within the last few weeks I've noticed a an occasional sound coming from the GPU side of the laptop. You know when you drop some sort of electronic device, and when you move it around you hear that little tiny piece inside moving around you know you shouldn't? That's frankly the best way to explain the sound....only I've never dropped, smashed, smacked, or done anything of the sort with it.
Right when I first started hearing it, I instantly assumed it was something to do with the GPU fan (And it could still be), but the sound even tends to happen occasionally when the fan is in a low power state. It's been happening more frequently now, but I've yet to notice any sort of negative impact on my machine otherwise...
Just not sure if I should be inquiring with tech support or what....:S
    **EDIT**
Side note, maybe related, maybe not. Recently I noticed my Turbo button wasn't working (The service is running though), just tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it still doesn't work...maybe something do to with the clicking sound? haha

Getting the same thing - a tiny click/blip sound. I actually hear it when the Mac starts up. It tends to make the noise just before an alert sound, but it appears to be intermittent - the MacBook is about a month old.
I'll keep an eye/ear out for it for now.

  • Weird click sound from trackpad

There's a strange clicky sound on my trackpad when just sliding around, not clicking.
It only happens on the left side.. it sounds like a light tapping of fingernail on the aluminum. Sometimes it goes away but its there like 90% of the time and is really annoying to hear/feel slight clicks when just tracking... does anyone else have this problem? anyone figure a fix?
Last time I sent this thing into apple it took THREE WEEKS to get it back =O. So I'm trying to find another fix first. Thanks guys!

I get a clicking sound that sounds kind of like rain from one of those rain makers sometimes when the mac is on my lap and not totally horizontal. It must be coming from one of the fans. Here's an mp3 of the sound:
    http://mike.is/clicking.mp3
Any idea if this is problematic? It seems like it's not actually doing anything harmful.

  • Clicking sound from hard drive - Satellite U940-100

    Hi people,
I bought a new laptop just 5 days back and I am hearing a clicking sound a few seconds apart. Here's what it sounds like: [https://soundcloud.com/user506186265/toshiba-u940-clicking-sound]
Can anyone help me diagnose the sound, what is it and why is it happening?
This happens every hour or so and is disturbing in a quiet environment. Since I plan to keep the laptop for more than a few years I fear the hard drive will fail very soon. If I cannot resolve this suitably before Nov 20, 2013 I plan to return the laptop to where I bought it.
    Thanks for your help!

This clicking noise comes definitely from the HDD and this sound is produced by reading heads. On some models it is pretty quiet but on some models you can hear it clearly.
In front of me I have U940-103 model and I don't hear such clicking noise, just normal HDD noise and it is not so disturbing for me.
As far as I know you cannot control it somehow. Maybe you can disable some settings like automatic update, back-up or HDD scan to avoid such activity.

  • Connection error, and clicking sound from remote speakers

    Problem:
Remote speakers produce clicking sounds when music is streamed from AirPort. Initially iTunes does not display a connection error, but it displays the following after switching from Base Station to Multiple Speaker mode:
"An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "Base Station". An unknown error occurred (-3256)"
The setup worked yesterday, and the Airport Firmware v6.3 and iTunes 6.0.5.20 are installed. I am able to use AirPort Admin Utility from my laptop to remotely change settings and restart the base station.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Faint clicking sound from P855-S5200

I bought this laptop yesterday and have noticed a faint clicking sound happening randomly. It is not coming from my speakers. It is really annoying. I called tech support and the person tried to explain that this is just the laptop was made and if I was to get rid of it, it would make my computer really slow. I do not understand how the sound and the speed are related but none the less, I want this sound gone. I am ready to return this laptop and not ever buy a toshiba ever again because this sound is driving me crazy. I have googled this issue and apparently it is a common issue which makes me wonder why there is not a solution to this issue yet. If anyone knows how to get rid of it please let me know! Thank You!

    Maybe THIS is the problem.

  • 27" iMac starts up and stays on white screen and I hear a clicking sound from inside.

I am starting up my iMac and it is frozen on the white screen and I can hear a clicking sound coming from inside?

    Hi,
I'm agree with Roger, that could be a HD Failure, but that happens to me once, and the problem was on the Power Supply, so I took it to an Apple Service and it was changed.
At last but not at least, this type of problems could come from the mother board (hope this not to be your case).
