Clicking sound whenever display changes content

Whenever my MBP (Late 2007) 17" HiRes display changes content, the LCD panel emits a clicking sound. I first noticed this problem when I unboxed it in February, but it has gotten significantly worse in the last two weeks or so. White pages seem to elicit louder clicks than black ones, but not by much. Even a paused YouTube video's loading bar updating is enough to cause about 25 dB(A) clicks, and scrolling pages on Firefox, Word, or Preview (or photos in iPhoto, or sound in Pro Tools) makes clicks nearly 35 dB(A) loud. Does anyone know what causes this, or, more to the point, how to make it stop?
Thanks!

I too have a late 2007 hi res 17" MBP, and I have never experienced anything like what you describe. Assuming that you have had your Mac less than a year, you are still under warranty. I would recommend calling Apple and bringing it to their attention. If your warranty is about to expire, be sure and get a case number, and consider getting 3 year Applecare. Whatever is wrong and causing the clicking sound should be covered under the warranty. Just in case the clicking might be coming from your hard drive, back up your data and keep it backed up. If the noise is coming from the hard drive, it needs to be evaluated, just in case your hard drive is about to fail.
Good luck!

  • 13" MacBook Pro vicious CLICK sound whenever moved? (sound included)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V_S45q0mrg
    Is this normal? Whenever I move the computer, it makes this loud "CLICK" sound. I mean, Its not like i'm viciously throwing the computer around, just lifting it off my lap to move my legs for a second and the slightest movement makes this sound. (note the picture has nothing to do with the video, I just put it there so I had something to go with the sound I recorded. Which by the way, I recorded it using Audacity with the built in microphone on the computer.)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V_S45q0mrg

    I also have noticed this click noise whenever moving my new 2009 13" MBP around. It doesn't seem to take much jarring to get this to happen (the sudden motion sensor appears to be very sensitive). I just got my MBP back from the apple store service dept. They replaced the 250GB hdd since the technician thought it was starting to fail. In the tech notes, noise was described as "high pitched pew pew pew" sound. This is not the sound I heard. Rather, I was more concerned with the loud clicking. Anyway, the same exact problem is back even with the new installed drive. The hdd still clicks loudly. I decided to try my own experiment while I was in the store... I went over and started picking up the 13" MBP's on the display tables. Guess what?! They ALL make the loud clicking noise! I tried 4 or 5 of them... I also tried some 15" and 17" MBP's with mixed results (it was hard to hear over the music in the store). It might be related to the type of hdd that apple uses in the new MBP's (I think they are all Hitachi travelstars).
    So here is my current thinking... Either 1) there is a problem with the SMS accelerometers in the new MBP's (too sensitive or improperly calibrated) or 2) the SMS has actually always been this sensitive, but no one has ever noticed because the hdd's have been much quieter when parking the head in previous models. I wonder if different hdd's (like WD or Seagate) produce such a loud click when the drive parks the head? Has anyone installed 3rd party drives in the new MBP's and noticed reduced clicking noise?

  • Clicking sound when display goes dark on 24in iMac

    Hello all,
    I have the strangest problem with my iMac. Everything works perfectly with my 3.06Ghz 750GB HDD iMac (24 inch), except one small annoying thing. When the display turns off to save power (after 15 minutes or whatever it is set at), a faint clicking sound can be heard from the upper left hand side of the computer. It sounds like....the head of the hard drive moving back and forth, similar to a muted version of the optical laser movements that can be heard when a CD is being read. This has been happening for several months, maybe over a year now.
    This ONLY happens when the display enters powersave mode. It stops immediately once the display backlight is turned on. I am guessing it is my hard drive, so the normal course of action is to get it replaced, but this has been happening for quite some time so it doesn't appear that the hard drive is failing. Any ideas? Should I just get the hard drive replaced? Doesn't this sound like a software issue?

    Robin I am not a tech and I do not know what is happening but that was happening to mine a few weeks ago.  I put off calling the tech because by pressing four keys I could get back in.  It finally went and they cannot even find my HD now.  Lost a lot of edited photos.  I now have a new 2T HD and am being backed up by time machine - but it cost me!!!  Mine is 3 years old and the tech told me that that is about par for the HD they make these days - again I am just quoting.

  • Remove default "Click" sound on slide change?

    My client (and myself) find it very annoying. The user knows
    they've clicked the mouse; they don't need their speaker to make a
    loud popping noise at them.
    Incidentally, the sound clip sounds nothing like a click...
    it's closer to the sound a blown speaker makes.

    I found a response to this before. The short answer is, you
    can't do it within Captivate, however you can replace the click
    sound mp3 in your Captivate folder with a silent mp3 of the same
    name.
    Someone else came up with this and has made a simple way to
    implement it...

  • Clicking sound when lifting/shifting Macbook

    When on my lap, my Macbook makes a clicking sound whenever I lift it or change its position. It doesn't happen all the time though, or when on a flat surface. Is this a sign of hardware problem? Should I have it checked?

    Does it make like a scratching noise? I noticed that sometimes that can happen because there is a CD/DVD in the disc drive that is spinning. When you lift the laptop up, the top of and maybe the bottom of CD (while spinning) grinds on the internal surface of the drive. This happens to me sometimes. If this isn't the case, I can't really help you.

  • Clicking sound every time using extermal mouse or touchpad

    SatelliteP770-PSBY3U-03L01Q As mentioned above, there is a loud(depending on speaker vol) clicking sound whenever the mouse or touchpad button is pushed that causes the computer to perform an operation. This is very annoying as it does it all the time, if the sound is on. Makes listening to music, playing games, and just working with the computer a pain in the ----. The noise sounds like relays opening/closing!!
    ANY IDEAS other than not using the sound??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    One of my favorites. I have it set to qclick.wav.
    Open Sound in Control Panel. In the Program Events box on the Sounds tab, locate the Start Navigation event, which is under Windows Explorer. Set the sound to (None) as shown.

  • IPhone 5 click sound.

    i just got my iphone 5 16GB black yesterday, so i've been observing this new iphone since yesterday to see whether it have problems..
    the phone makes little bit rattle sounds which i consider normal since everyone have the same problem too.
    the only thing that i really worried about is my iphone 5 makes "click" sound whenever i tapped on the right bottom part on the front face of the iphone. it looks like the glass or the screen is loose.
    the sound is not so loud though..but i really dont want to mess it up since this iphone cost a lot of bucks.
    if i go to the apple store, will they replace it? what you guys think. thank you!

    No that is not normal

    I can access the unit via windows and my SONOS system but not through itunes anymore
    Can anyone help please

    Go to System Preferences and click Sign Out, select Delete at all the prompts, then sign back in with the changed ID?   (Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out and choose Delete, but will still be in iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

  • How to change "Display column content" on a uploaded file link?

    Hi,

But is there a way to change the wording "Display column content"?

  • Changed N82 casing, now no sound or display

    Hi, I've just changed my n82 cover following a youtube video guide and tutorial. After completion, I turned the phone on, it vibrated once on power as usual, but there was no sound or display, the phone shuts down after about 30 seconds. Also, the backlights work.

    i'm pretty sure doing what u did just voided the warranty on ur phone - probably the wiring wasnt dont properly
    i'd say go to a nokia care point to get an authorised nokia technician to check ur phone out but bear in mind as i mentioned ur warranty being voided, there will probably be a charge involved in repairing it
    if my post helped u out, please click the Star next to it to add some KUDOS to my name

  • Clicking Sound when lifting/moving MBP w/ Retina display

    I recently purchased the new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display (Late 2013) and I've noticed that sometimes when I touch the bottom of it in just the right spot (near the center) it makes a very slight clicking or ticking noise. It also makes this same noise sometimes when moving or lifting it. I've only had this MacBook for about 2 days now and haven't dropped or bumped into it at all. It's such a slight sound that it's probably nothing, but I just want to make sure. The only info I could find was related to older MacBooks with hard drives.

    I would check for a possible loose screw holding the bottom panel on. That being said, since I don't own one of those models (I have a late 2011 MBP 13"), I have no idea if the screws they use on the newer models are standard Phillips or Apple's proprietary Pentalobe (5-sided) screws. I would assume they are Phillips since the PC is likely upgradable (HDD, memory). If they are Phillips, go through and snug up the screws. It may help. Also, since the MacBook is new, you may want to take it in to the Genius Bar and have them check it out for you if you snug up the screws and it's still making the clicking sound.
    EDIT: chek out the links on the right side of the page that says "More like this", especially here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10112877#10112877
    The sound you're hearing may be the normal operation of the SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor).

  • User exit to be triggered for PR05 when click on display/change/create

    Hi,
    If there a user exit or BADI that is triggered when I click on display / create / change a respective line of trips in transaction code PR05? I tried the following user exit but non is triggered when i click on the said button ( display / change / create ).
    - FITR0001
    - FITR0002
    - FITR0003
    - FITR0005
    What i'm trying to achieve here is to default the Trip type based on the cost centre / WBS Element assigned for that particular trips. I highly appreciate for any feedback / help on this.

    Hi Loo,
        There are no BADI or user exits for for requirement 1 . I suggest you to go for implicit enhancement options to default trip type .

  • Embedding a text file to display its contents on a button click

    I am quite a beginner in this platform. I have text file with me and I want to display its contents to the user(Read Only) on a button click event in my app.(using C#)
    I wish to know how to link/ embed this text file to my app and once it is embedded, how to deploy the file reading.
    P.S. i would really appreciate it if you can provide some sample code.

    thx Rob..plz check this piece of code..
    namespace Syllabus
        public partial class MainPage : PhoneApplicationPage
            public MainPage()
                InitializeComponent();
            private async Task Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
                try
                      System.IO.Stream src = Application.GetResourceStream(new Uri("Syllabus;vbu.txt", UriKind.Relative)).Stream;
                      string text;
                      using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(src))
                          text = sr.ReadToEnd();
                      TextBlock t = new TextBlock();
                      t.Text = text;
                  catch
                      MessageBox.Show("File Not Found");
    On running the code always chokes within the constructor itself ...what's wrong?

  • Creating or change Content to Display on Portrait Mode

    I would like to Create or change Content to Display on Portrait Mode ?

    I do a custom sequence, where say my media is 1920 x 1080, I make the sequence 3414 x 1920. Then move the clip into the sequence and 'Keep Existing Settings', and rotate the clip 90 degrees. You can fit 3 clips of those dimensions within those settings and leaves a 'black' portion. Or scale one clip to fill.
    Depends what size media you have and depends what you want to render out as.
