  • Synced photos in itunes - Thumbnails are in my photos on iPad but when I click they won't open

I just got an iPad 3.  I used I tunes to sync the photos folder which I had synced to my iPod Touch.  All of the photos transferred and when I open the photos folder on the iPad I can see the  thumbnails of all the photos.  When I click on the photos to open them only about 60% of them will open and the other ones just skip to the next photo and won't open.  They are jpeg files and open fine on my iPod Touch.  Any ideas on how to fix this???
    Thanks.

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over correctly - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page.

  • IPhoto won't open photos from thumbnails.

Hi - Some weeks ago, my older version of iPhoto stopped opening photos from the thumbnails.  You click on thumbnail and nothing happens, no black screen, no beach ball, no error messages - just as though you haven't clicked on it at all.  So reading other people's experiences, I've now upgraded Mac OS to 10.9.2, and upgraded my version of iPhoto to 9.5.1.  I've ditched the Plist.  I've gone through the iPhoto First Aid options 1 to 4, I've installed Library Manager and rebuilt the library.  I've restarted.  But I still can't open photographs from the thumbnails.  Is there anything else I could try please?

    Try the following again:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If there's no improvement as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
I've installed Library Manager and rebuilt the library.
Did the rebuld library act the same way?
Are you seeing the thumbnails in the Events?
Go to the Photos mode, turn off Event Titles in the View menu, select all of the photos in the library and use the Photos ➙ Revert to Original menu option.  Then double click on an thumbnail again.

I recently re-published my web site last night with a new template. Everything works fine but now when I click on any photos in my gallery I get the following message in Safari:
"Safari can’t open “photos:%20Kates%20Summer_files/slideshow.html?slideIndex=1” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “photos:”.
Same goes for clicking on slideshow. Also won't open with windows browsers - error message says something about finding an s: drive.

I've installed Elements 11 onto my Windows 8 laptop. Been working just fine for a couple of months. Recently I installed Norton 360 onto my laptop and now Elements won't open any photos. Can this be caused from the Norton 360?

The Editor portion of the software opens but no photos will upload onto the work space.  I have tried dragging from my folder, right clicking on the image and selecting "open with", I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program.  I get to work space area but no images.

Those files that open in Preview, open them in Preview and then save them. Then try import them.

  • Iphoto won't open photos,

After upgrading to iPhoto 11, when trying to open photos from the thumbnail in an album, event or in photos the picture appears for a moment and then I get the black exclamation point. This occurs on all but the most recent photos.
    iPhoto 11, version 9.4.3, OS 10.8.4
    MacBook Air 1.83 core2duo
Tried repair and rebuilding the iPhoto database, repaired permissions and repaired thumbnails.
Opened backup iPhoto library, the issue persists.
    Any troubleshooting suggestions?

That's an indication of iPhoto breaking the file path/link to the original file. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 won't open photo files

Elements suddenly stopped allowing me to open photo files.  I click to open a file, and nothing happens.  Help please!

Try opening in camera raw from the Editor menu:
    File >> Open As
Navigate to your image file and choose camera raw from the file format dropdown list.
If the file opens in the camera raw dialog click the open image button (bottom right) and that will send it into the regular Editor interface where you may be able to re-save another copy.

  • Upgraded to photos now itunes won't open photo library.

Had to restore photo library from Time Machine backup due to kids deleting it. Restored OK, opened Photos app and migrated library, works fine in photos app.
However in iTunes under the sync photos tab with iPhone, photo library is greyed out and I cannot select it.
    Any ideas?

    Hello, bas.harbers.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that iTunes will not allow you to select and library to sync with after upgrading to Photos.  It sounds like you may just need to set Photos as the system library preference.  Here is the article that will walk you through this process.

  • IPhoto 09: Won't open photos from thumbnails/won't DL photos from camera

I had a system wipe last night on my MacBook Pro. Apple reinstalled the OS 10.6.3. I transferred my back up from Time Capsule last night. Seemed to go without a hitch. This morning, I opened iPhoto and can see all of my events, but when I click on one, I can't see any of the photos in the editor or in the preview window. Only thumbnails.
Not only that, I can't upload photos from my Nikon Coolpix nor can I upload jpgs from my desktop (used to be able to easily). I get an "unreadable file" message. iPhoto is still preparing faces (15 minutes left). Is that why?
    What shall I do?

I, too, couldn't upload photos directly to iPhotos, even though it opened when I connected my Nikon Coolpix. I had to transfer them from Image Capture. But, either after an upgrade and/or using a different USB port, the camera icon again appears on iPhone and I am back to uploading directly to iPhoto. You might try a different USB port. BTW I didn't have the problem before Snow Leopard but it now seems to be resolved at least for me.

  • Double-click won't open photo in new window

so double clicking a photo in my library used to open it in a separate window where i could have a closer look or edit the photo, only, now, when i double-click a photo, the separate window opens, flashes the photo for a millisecond and then appears and remains blank. anyone had this issue before? know how to fix it? happy days!

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • PowerBookG4 with iPhoto 5.0.4 can't/won't open photos

Ok, first of all I am extremely ignorant of OSX, and especially iPhoto. I used Classic until finally forced into X. I had been using OS 10.4.11 and have upgraded my old laptop as far as it will go (to 10.5.8) recently and that is what has caused this issue. I recently lost my HD on another computer, an iMac, so this is the only computer with those particular photos on it and I don't want to mess with something I know nothing about and end up losing the data.  I've had no problems with any other apps. I have not tried any updates or anything for fear of losing the photos.I know they are still on the computer as I have use Graphic Converter (yes, I still use it *L*) in slide show mode for all photos on my computer and they all show up there. I had some ideas but I am not comfortable doing any work arounds or moving anything without some input from someone that knows what they're doing.
I have heard that you should never mess with the iPhoto library, so I have done nothing with it to this point. I can launch iPhoto but as soon as the frame for the app opens, I get a message telling me I need the newest version of iPhoto to access my photos and then my only choice is to click quit. How far can I upgrade iPhoto on a PPC PowerBook G4 and where do I find the update?  I have run software updater and can't find any iPhoto updates that way. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My only viable option at this point is to take screen shots of each of them as Graphic  Converter shows them and start over but that seems to be a big excessive and I would like to think there is a much better and less time consuming fix. I have added my computer info for anyone that can have a look at it and let me know what would be my best option at this point. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you have.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Does it explain it better if I ask "How can I access my iPhoto library without using the iPhoto app?" Whenever I try to open iPhoto, I get this:
This began when I updated my software to 10.5.8 I don't have a newer version that I am aware of. I can find no other version on my computer and to my knowledge I have made no changes to the library. I want the pictures that are IN  the iPhoto library that the GC slide show can find when it scans the hard drive for the slide show to be able to be seen in another way than in the GC slide show. I have no way to open the individual photo by clicking on it.
If I do a search for the photo by "name.jpg" it shows the path to it in a finder window. The named photo can be found in the iPhoto library folder named "data", in a folder named "year", in a folder named "month, day, year". It can also be found in iPhoto library folder named "Originals", in a folder named "year", in a folder named "month, day, year" as a jpg. document. If I try to drag and drop either from this window into Preview or Graphic Converter (for example), nothing happens and it has the 'circle/slash' (international symbol for no) over it. If I click on it, it just opens iPhoto and I get that message I posted above and have to quit. I understand that the photos won't be put into GC since it's not that type of app. I just need them to be stand alone photos that I can put in accessible folders so I can open them, print them, or move them to backup.  I don't know how to access the photos that iPhoto is keeping me from viewing. The photos are still on here, and can still be seen in the GC slideshow but I have no way of accessing them other than via that slideshow. If they didn't show up in the slide show, I'd not be able to see them as photos at all. As I said in my first post, I need to back up the most recent ones since my backup HD died last week, but iPhoto won't let me access them to do it.
I'm really sorry if this is not clear and I apologize for my ignorance. I am afraid of doing something that will lose the photos since I'm not proficient in moving iPhoto data and libraries around. I want to do this so I can back up these last 20 or so photos. Thanks for trying to understand. If "How do I fix my iPhoto library" is a better question, then I'll ask that. I just want access to the photos. The app is not important to me, only being able to see and access the photos.
    Thanks again for your time.

  • LR3 suddenly won't open photos in CS4 to be edited

    Hi,
When I right click on a photo in LR3 and click on 'edit in Photoshop CS4', it opens the dialogue box that it has always opened: 'This version of Lightroom may require Camera Raw version 6.5 to be fully compatible,' or something to that effect. I have never needed to worry about that, and have always been able to just click on OK and it has worked anyway, however suddenly it doesn't.
So I checked (just in case the issue was my version of Camera Raw) and I am running Camera Raw version 5.70.213
So I tried to update it to 6.5.  I downloaded it (and the Adobe installer manager which it seemed to want me to install), but when I try to install 6.5 I get a message: 'This is not required'.
So one message tells me it is required, and another won't allow it to install and says it is not required.
I contacted Adobe's Installation department and they said they did not have an answer to my problem.  Grrrr....  Apparently when they have gliches with their products it is up to you fine people on the forums to solve the issue - so very kind of you - thank you!  Sorry - this company really frustrates me sometimes.
Anyway - for whatever reason I don't seem to be able to install the latest version of Camera Raw (doesn't bother me as I don't use it - I use LR, except if it is causing this problem), and I have the problem of being unable to edit any of my LR catalogue in CS4, which is a huge problem and has stopped me working on some urgent jobs.  This problem didn't exist yesterday, and I haven't changed anything - so it is kind of odd.
When I searched the forums, I have read of this same problem occuring two years ago, however nothing recent, and none of the fixes helped.
Thanks so much and kind regards,
    Karina

Lightroom uses the equivalent of ACR 6.5 for processing while PS CS4 can only use ACR version 5.x I believe you have the latest one. Therefore some of the adjustments you may have made in LR cannot be read by ACR 5.7. do not have PS CS 4 so I cannot check why it is not working when you select open anyway. Have you recently updated LR.
