Clicking update just opens the app?
Snapchat recently sent me a message saying that soon my version of the app will stop working, and that I need to update the app. However, when I go to the app store and to updates and click the update button, my phone just opens the app and nothing else happens. This happens with all of my apps.
Could it be that I don't have ios 8?
Or that my phone doesn't have enough storage (1.5 GB available)?
Or is it that my phone is older (4S - 14 months old)?
I have a friend who has a 4s iPhone without ios 8 and who updated her apps just fine...so any ideas on what's causing the problem and how I can fix it?
Free up some space, a 4S is still a good phone and you can update it to 8.2 just fine. If that doesn't work, delete the app. Hold it until it wiggles, click X, delete. Go back to app store and redownload it. Should work. Need to back up that iphone, there are several different ways to back your pictures or videos.

my ipod touch 5 won't let me update my apps, when I click on update it just opens the app. also the update all at the top isn't highlighted so I can't click on that.

I noticed the same problem yesterday on my iPhone 5 (7.0.3)
Update all option was greyed out and attempting to update individually just opened the app.
I did a hard reset and bingo, worked first time. -

IPhone 5s won't install updates, when I try, it just opens the app
I have an iPhone 5s. Whenever I press the update button, the app doesn't update. The update button is working more as a button that opens the specific app I'm trying to update. I am very frustrated. I had an iPhone 5s with a previous phone company and didn't experience this issue.

Opening photoshop from double click on file opens the app but doesn't open the file.
This is a new behaviour... how can we solve it? Its very annoying!

Steps to reproduce:
Having the photoshop closed...
1 - Double click a psd file on the desktop (or any other place)
2 - Photoshop loads until it gets to the normal window
3 - The file wasn't opened
4 - Go back to the desktop and double click the file
5 - Photoshop (that is at this time already open), opens the file and displays it on screen
Shouldn't it be opening the file after loading photoshop?

I just updated to ios 7 on my iPhone 4 how do you turn the apps off when your not using them? The old way of double clicking and then pressing the app until a red minus button comes doesn't work it opens it back up!?
Double click home button, then swipe up on app picture (not the icon itself)

I have an iPad mini, 16G, WiFi only. My operating system is iOS 7.0.3. My problem is that my App Store has stopped updating apps. And it's not like the update starts, but never finishes. It doesn't start at all. I touch the "Update" button, and the app opens instead of updating. I have 9 updates now, and none of them work. And the rest of the App Store is working fine. I have no problems searching for apps or downloading new apps. It's just the updates that don't work. I had thought that maybe I needed to update my software and then it would start working, but I can't. The available software update requires 5.9G of storage, and I only have 1.6G. I also thought that maybe there was not enough forage to update the apps, but if that was the case, then it would tell me that there is not enough storage instead of opening the app. Does anyone know how to fix this? I really need to update my apps!

It sounds like you are unable to update your apps in the App store because they launch, rather than update. I would recommend starting by signing out of your Apple ID in Settings:
iTunes: Using the iTunes Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Create New Apple ID on your device.
Then quit all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

What exactly are you double-clicking?
Once software is installed on your computer, you can usually launch by clicking the icon on your computer's desktop. Or by looking inside Start > Programs (Win) or Applications Folder (Mac).

I just downloaded a lot of PDF textbooks to my ibooks, and now it crashes within seconds of opening the app. I have tried restoring the iPad and just updated the iBooks to 3.1. Any ideas? I have the new iPad.

I updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 yesterday and now when I press the home button even once, it opens the app switcher (which is supposed to only open after pressing the home button twice quickly). Sometimes pressing the home button once even brings up the assistive button (which for me should take three button presses). This did not happen before I updated my software. Has anyone else had this issue? Know how to stop it? Very annoying and at this point feel like I should have waited before I did the update.
Hello ..do you have a history on the phone? did you get it wet? was it dropped? have you been using an authentic ORIGINAL apple charging cable?
this problem occurs when there is a short circuit in the phone... you most likely got it wet at some point and maybe didnt even realize it? The moisture in the phone hasb probablly oxidized one or several capacitors, integrated chips thereby short circuiting the phone. that is why he phone is acting erratic because these short circuits inadvertently "activates" other circuits.. eventually the phone will not turn on anymore- the heat will stress the citcuit board and you will have discontinuity along your main power lines and the phone will cease to function..i see this alllll the time in our shop
the fact you upgraded to ios6 will even work the phone harder because its a more powerful operating system taking full advantage of the A4 chip..
