Client Applications vs Standalone Applications

Hi all,
I'm just confused about differences between
Client Applications and Standalone Applications.
Is it right that with a Client Application I don't need
to specify in my java code (with Properties) the
INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY and the PROVIDER_URL
of my application server ?
For what concerne lookup() method, do Client Applications
use the "java:comp/env/...." syntax (like co-located bean) ?
Do they need to use narrow() method to cast EJB references ?
What are advantages/advantages of using Client Applications
or Standalone App. ?
Thanks in advance
Moreno

I'm no expert, and I'm not sure that I fully understand your question but...I far as I understand it, a standalone application is just that. It doesn't require anything other than what comes delivered and installed with the application. A client application requires a server (among other things).

  • How to lookup EJBs deployed in OC4J from a standalone client application

    Hello all,
    I am trying to lookup an EJB deployed in OC4J 10.1.3 from a standalone client application using the following code:
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "jazn.com/test");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "test");
    Context context = new InitialContext(env);
    Object ref = context.lookup("ejb/Dispatch");
    I get the following error:
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: ejb/Dispatch not found
         at com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIClientContext.lookup(RMIClientContext.java:51)
         at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(InitialContext.java:347)
    For the lookup string I've also tried:
    "java:comp/env/ejb/Dispatch" and "Dispatch"
    For the Context.PROVIDER_URL property I've also tried:
    opmn:ormi://localhost:6003:instance
    The result is always the same.
    I appreciate if someone could help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Georgi

    Georgi,
    Your question has been discussed many times on this forum. Search the forum archives for "RMIInitialContextFactory".
    The PROVIDER_URL needs to include the name of the deployed application that your EJB is part of, for example:
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/MyApp");The lookup name has to be the value of the "ejb-name" element in your "ejb-jar.xml" descriptor file.
    Your SECURITY_PRINCIPAL value looks strange to me. Personally, I use "principals" (and not JAZN), so I modified the "application.xml" file (in the "j2ee/home/config" subdirectory) to use "principals". Look for the following comment in that file:
    <!-- Comment out the jazn element to use principals.
          When both jazn and principals are present jazn is used  -->Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Can we deploy taskflows separetly from the client application?

    Hello,
    We have projects that contains taskflows that we want to integrate into a client application. Is it possible to deploy the taskflows outside the ear of the client application? basically what we want is to be able to deploy new versions of taskflows without having to rebuild and deploy the client application.

    I followed the instructions in Andrejus Baranovskis's Blog. However when I run my client app I get the following exception:

    However when I run my client app as standalone (i.e. with the taskflow lib included in the ear) I don't get this exception. Any idea?

  • How to make client application

    hi....
    help me...^ ^ how to make client application(not standalone..)
    I seached bea document.. but I can't it.
    if someone have sample(.ear or .jar), I hope you it share...

    Hi
    Client Application can be any Java class, JSP etc which is a part of multi
    tier architecture which accepts input from Client and directs request to the
    middle tier for processing. You can refer to
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jsp/index.html
    for building jsp's as Client application.

    Did you get any answer for your problem?
    I'm having the exact same problem. Working with Weblogic 8.1 SP6 and getting this strange message whenever I'm calling my data service.
    I've followed the guidlines given on the URL posted here, and still getting the same message.
    Let me know if you have any idea.

    Hi
    You are missing some critical jar files in your class path. It should be namingclient.jar, also please or something similar that is missing in classpath.

    Here's the fix for that old problem. Change the work method to do the following
    - don't register interest in things that can't happen
    - when you connect register based on whether the connection is complete or pending.
    - add the OP_READ interest once the connection is complete.
    This doesn't fix all the other problems this code will have,
    eg.
    - what happens if a write is incomplete?
    - why does my code loop if I add OP_WRITE interest?
    - why does my interestOps or register method block?
    For code that answers all those questions see my obese post Taming the NIO Circus
    Here's the fixed up Client code

  • How can I start a client Application from a procedure?

    Hello, can someone help me to solve this problem?
    I've written a client Application.(just one file Client.java) Then I created a .jar file for my applicaiton component and loaded it to the server using loadjava. (MyExample.jar)
    It should be invoked by a procedure, which I've created.
    create or replace procedure TEST as language java name 'MyExample.main(java.lang.String[])';
    But when I want to start it in the SQl*Plus using "call TEST();", I received the message:
    Executing PL/SQL: CALL COSMOS."JDEV_TMP_PROC_1"()
    ORA-29541: Klasse COSMOS.CompUpdateClient konnte nicht aufgelöst werden
    ORA-06512: in "COSMOS.TEST", Zeile 0
    ORA-06512: in "COSMOS.JDEV_TMP_PROC_1", Zeile 3
    ORA-06512: in Zeile 1
    Process exited.
    Can someone tell me why and how I can solve it?
    Thanks

    As Andrew suggested, it might be an issue with broken java installation on your system.
    You could try performing following steps to see if you get similar results. This will verify if there is something with your java installation or something to with the way you coded your java class(es).
    (since you did not post the code, I'm not sure which one might be a problem.

  • Using database views in ADF mobile client application

    Hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 and WLS 10.3.4.
    I have developed a POC in ADF mobile client application both with and without synchronization. However, both work with entity objects based on tables.
    I need to use database views instead of tables. When I try to include entity object (based on views) in the view object, it shows an error saying "Only the entity objects based on tables can be selected"
    Please guide me if there is a work around for this.
    Also, please let me know if there is way to develop an ADF mobile client application skipping the use of entity objects at all and using view objects directly to specify the database query and fetch data from the database.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, Ansh:
    Currently, out of box, ADF Mobile Client does not support synchronization against Database Views. This is because Mobile Server imposes some schema restrictions to ensure synchronization with multi-table views would work correctly. This schema restriction requires, for example, the view must have a primary parent table with key defined, and also all base table must be included in the data publication. These dependencies requires manual resolution and advanced planning, and is managed outside of the ADF Mobile Client/JDeveloper project.
    To continue development, you would need to create server Entity Objects directly against the base tables. You can then create the mobile ADF Business Component (EOs, VOs, etc). You can then create View Objects in your ADF Mobile Client application based on the database views, in order to retrieve the data you need exactly. In other words, instead of basing EO on the database view, create View Objects in the mobile applicaiton to mimic what you had in the View Object.
    Is there any other reason why you would need to access data via database views, instead of directly against base tables?
    Thanks,

  • How to invoke A CORBA-Java Client Application, from Oracle???

    Hi,
    I have a CORBA-Java Client Application, which takes the input parameters from a Oracle table and calls the CORBA Server, passes these parameters to the C++ Server Application and gets the results back thorugh CORBA.
    My problem is, this java application needs to be invoked, when ever there is a new record in the Oracle table.
    I am not sure if i can use Java Stored Procedures in Oracle in this case, because my app is in Sun JVM and i am using BEA WebLogic Enterprise 5.1 for the CORBA.
    Is there any other way by which i can invoke this app, when a new record is updated in the Oracle table?
    Currently, i have just put a TIMER in my java App, to check the oracle table in every few seconds, to see if there is a new reocrd. If it finds a new record it invokes the corresponding class(corba class), or else just keep sending a messsage that no new record is available.
    The problems i am facing in this method are as follows;
    1. Unnecessarily, the application has to keep on running if there is no request coming frequently.
    2. When there is a new record found, the Corba Class is called and the whole process (till it gets the result back from the server) takes about 20 - 30 secs. But within this period, if there is another record coming into Oracle table, my timer class doesnt invoke another corba class....(though i am using multithreading by using the RemidTask method in the timer.schedule.
    (timer.schedule(new RemindTask(),10,5*1000);)
    3. Also, if during the first call, there is some error, then the whole process exits, instead of another process running parallely (when a second new record is found).
    So how does this timer class act like a multithreading process?
    Well, i hope i am not confusing....Please let me know if anyone wants bit more elaboration on this.
    It would be really helpful if someone can suggest some answer to my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you very much Keith.
    Though i am really getting a hope of solving this problem, from you answer, i am actually not 100% sure if i understood your reply properly.
    First of all, about
    1. "use the update stored procedure to place the updated record (or unique index) onto an Oracle Application Queue."
    -- Why do i need to put the record in the AQ. (Frankly speaking, at this moment i dont have much idea about AQ, probably i can learn more about it from oracle technet site? Or would u suggest anything else?)
    Then,
    2."Your app then waits on this queue and for each new message, consumes it, gets the data required from the AQ load (e.g the index and or record), and fires off the CORBA class"
    -- How does my application stay in the queue? and gets the data from the queue?
    Of course, as far as i understand, i am going through the same principle...keeping on running a timer class, which keeps on checking the table for a new record, and when it finds, it calls the CORBA class.
    Of course, i feel there should be a difference in running the timer continuosly and staying in queue. However i am totally unaware, how can i make my java app to wait in the queue and waits for a new record?
    Can you please elaborate your answer a bit more, because i dont know about the AQ, that you have mentioned.
    Thank you very much in advance for your time. But please know that it will be of great help to me and hence will be higly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Subhasree.

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
    Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
    I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
    Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
    same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
    The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
    the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
    Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.
    Chee Wee.

    Hello,
    After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.

  • Search Server 2010 Express: Open a PDF document from list of search results invokes adobe reader client application with error

    Hi community,
    I set up search server 2010 express on a windows 2008 r2 server.
    The Adobe PDF iFilter 9 64 bit is installed and search is correctly configured to find PDF-files.
    When doing a search and clicking on a link of the result page, the PDF is not opened in the browser, instead the adobe reader XI client application (11.0.04) is invoked and an error raised like "could not open document .. check syntax of url..."
    Right click on a link to open in new tab works fine. And PDF-Files from other arbitrary Internet Sites opens in browser correctly. Moreover when configure Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as default application on the client it also open in Browser correctly.
    I noticed googling the web there are several challenges when dealing with PDF-files in sharepoint. The following settings are made so far:
    1. In IE: Add-On to open PDF in Browser is enabled for all sites.
    2. Client Integration is enabled
    3. The OpenControl attribute in the DOCICON.xml is left empty OpenControl="" for the pdf entry.
    4. The Browser File Handling is set to "Permissive".
    Please feel free to ask for more information if needed.
    I appreciate any help on this. I don't know what to do further.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Before responding to your points I want to give a little more context:
    We have an intranet based on pure html and a little aspx containing many of those pdf- files. By clicking on the links in the intranet the files open correctly in browser handled by the adobe plugin. Now we set up this search server crawling the file system
    accessed through a share to the root folder of the intranet. In the search server settings a host mapping rule is applied to replace the file://[share] with http://[intranet host+domain+port] to access files over http.
    And now to answer your question. The resulting urls are the same, copying the link from intranet and copying the link from the search result (except some case issues).
    The event viewer not seem to show any errors on this, though I'm not very familiar using it.
    If any further information are from interest and any ideas come to your mind - please let me know.
    Thanks.
