Client copy or system copy

Hi experts,
for ETL tests, can i connect an ECC Produktiv system mandant copy to BW development system or shold it be a system copy.

Don't connect Production ECC for Development BW. you can copy the client then you can use it.
The better landscape is
BWD -->BWQ-->BWP

Hi,
We copied the production system into our test system using backup/restore. In the post copy verification, our CO team complained because they could not see the "accounting documents".
What do you think happened why the accounting document was not copied?

Hi Krbas,
Make sure you did all the post processing activities after system copy. I doubt you missed some post processing activities related to CO after your system copy.

Formulas not copied during system copy

Hi All ,
Recently we copied non-prod quality system to create new Dev system. In the process we have realised that in transformations ,formulas havent been copied to the new system .This is resulting in Processs chains failing with error "Assertion failed"
Has anybody faced such an issue before . Would appreciate all your help.

System Copy from ABAP Stack to ABAP+Java Stack

Hi,
Is it possible to system copy (homogeneous or heterogeneous) from a system based on ABAP Stack to a system based on ABAP+Java Stack? Is it the normal system copy procedure or something aditional is required to do. Pl. advise. Thanks

It depends on what you want to copy, a system copy will always wipe out the existing target. But if you want to only copy data, you might be able to do a client copy. You can start with this SAP note: [552711 - FAQ: Client copy|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=552711]

Homogeneous System Copy - Help me

Hi,
I need to refresh the Training environment with the QAS environment data then I did the client copy from QRP(QAS environment) to TRN (training environment). This copy was made successfully, but with some data inconsistences.
And then a decided to do a Homogeneous System Copy.
I did the HSC selecting the option "Standard System Copy/Migration (R3Load-Based) " but exist the another option "System Copy / Oracle Backup/Restore".
And my doubt is: the process that I need to do is the Standard System Copy / Migration (R3Load-Based) or System Copy / Oracle Backup/Restore?
And the inverse process (import), can I to install just a Database Instance, once that a Central Instance already exists?!

Hii the process you need to do is system copy . In system copy there are two ways one by using R3load tool and other is backup method. Generally the backup method is faster where all your database will be backedup and copied to the target system. R3load and oracle backup are just two methods of doing system copy.
homogeneous system copy if your target system is on the same operating system and database system as your source system. The database contents are copied from the source system to the target system.
You perform a heterogeneous system copy if you want to change the operating system or database system. Migration is another term for a heterogeneous system copy.

Hi Frank,
For client copy there are two types one is Local client copy which is with the system and Remote client copy which is copy of client from one system to another system.
Local client copy :
     1. scc4 .. entry for new client
     2. logon to the new entered client with SAP* password: pass
     3. sccl ..select source client and target would the one u logged in currently.
     4. Set the parallel processes ( depends on u r cpu) normally 6 -16
     5. Start in dialog
     6. check the logs in SCC3 .
Remote client copy:
1. Scc4 entry for the client.
2. SCC8 RFC maintain .. folow the screens
3. Scc3
System Copy:
1. Take the offline backup of the source system and the control file.
2. Restore the backup on the target system.
3. change the control file path.
4. change in the control file where this RESET to SET
5. Startup database in mount state.
6. Run the control file.
7. open the database with command : alter database open resetlogs;
8.All Done !!!

We had already checked the procedures, we are working based on the System Copy Guide: "System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 ABAP+Java".
I had to mention that source and target systems are HP-UX, 11.23, Itanium and the DataBase is Oracle 10.2.02.
The copy was made from a Central System (ABAP + Java) to a High-Availability System (ABAP + Java), and the problem appeared when copying the Central Instance.

How to rename global_name to NEW_DBSID after System Copy

Hello,
I changed SID D22 to S11 during system copy.The System Copy guide recommends to rename global_name on Oracle.
I have some questions.
1) Is the following procedure correct?
SQL>alter database rename global_name to S11;
2) If I do not rename global_name, what happens?
I refer to the guide "Homogeneous and Heterogeneous
System Copy for SAP Systems Based
on SAP Web Application Server
ABAP 6.40 SR1".
6.2 Performing Follow-On Actions in the
Target System
Oracle: If you changed the <DBSID> during the system copy, it is recommended to adapt the global_name parameter with the following SQL command:
alter database rename global_name to <NEW_DBSID>;
If the parameter is not existing on your system, ignore this step.

If you use a distributed database system, you need to identify each database by a unique identifier (the global name).

Homogeneous system copy on the same hardware and OS

Hi!
When I installed our Q system I was given the wrong user, a local admin instead of a domain admin. Now we can not perform backup with our backup tool, HP dataprotector, because of authorization issues.
My solution is to "move" the system to the domain and to do that I need to do a Homogeneous system copy.
Our system is a 64-bit CRM 7.0 ABAP and J2EE on Windows 2008 with Oracle 10.2
I've read note 676468, 1238351 and the System Copy Guide - System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and from this I can see the following ways to do it
1. using SAPinst for export and import
2. using an offline backup
3. copy database files
What are your experiences with the different methods and what would you recommend?

It is not "just" a user mismatch, the full environment is wrong (wrong user ID).
Windows stores users not as usernames but as UIDs (see HKEY\USERS in the registry). All permissions and ACLs and registry access permissions are using that UID - including the enviornmental settings, DCOM configurations etc.
Therefore I would go for system copy as stated in
Note 1233320 - Domain migration for SAP system
Technically it may work on the first look, problems may arise later. <sid>adm has to have some special permissions/policies that are not visible (like 'locking pages in memory' or 'act as part of the operating system' or 'run as batch') etc.

System Copy Guide: Exporting the Source System Using SAPinst.

Hi Gurus,
I am trying to do Unicode conversion of ERP 2005 SR3 on Oracle/WS2003
The preparation steps are OK
When I execute the last Phase using Sapinst : "database instance export",
it finishes within one minute with the message "Database instance export has been completed succesfully"
but without exporting data.
I have follow up Unicode Conversion Guide and System Copy Guide System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 ABAP+Java.
What could be wrong here?

SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME = <your-virtual-hostname>
for the user executing sapinst.

I have to choose between a copy with or whitout data from PRD system to DEV.
I'm little confused about the difference between System Copy and Client Copy.
Which is that includes a copy of data also?
Then, System copy = Refresh system?

Client Copy and System Restore query

Dear All,
I have few major doubt regarding client copy and system restor.
1. In my Quality system there are 2 clients: 100 and 200.In my PRD there is only 1 client 300(other than the standard default clients). My doubt is during remote client copy with SAP_ALL profile from PRD to QUA why the space increases only in MB.
I have been asked the same question by my management. They are saying PRD is 300GB and QUA is 220GB then why the space increases in MB though all data is copied in client 200(QUA) from client300(PRD)
2. If I delete client why the space is released in MB. Because according to them it should be in GBs.
3. Now my third query is I have to restore PRD backup in QUA.So I said that this requires same <SID> and Same sapce in the sapdatafiles(OS is HP-UX 11.31 and DB is Oracle 10g).So I have to explain them why these two things are contradary to each other. In case of client copy space required is only in MB and in case of System restore of PRD in QUA sapce require is in GBs.

The database structures,tables etc are already present.

Response > Since client deletion is not same as deleting database /customizing tables .If you delete complete dataspaces/tables then there will be sizeable difference.Similar logic as Response 1

Homogeneous system copy OR Remote client copy

Dear all,
We have SAP ECC 6.0 system running on HP Unix and Oracle 10g. This is a production system.
We would like make an exact replica of this system into a test system for several tests.
To achieve this, I think there are two ways.
Procedure 1.
a. Install ECC 6.0 in similar platform and creat a new client.
b. Perform remote client copy from production system to new test system.
Procedure 2.
a. Perform homogeneous system copy.
Could you please tell me which procedure would be the best one? and also we would like to know SAP Guide on how to perform this procedure.
