Client hangs in App Store

I have had this happen often.  I am managing a large number of Snow Leopard and Lion Servers.  On each machine, each user has their own Fusion 4 VM running.  Occaisonally when I log in (via ARD) to one of the VMs and access the "App Store", it hangs.  When I try the App Store and either select an app or login, all I see is the "progress circle spin" in the top bar on the left.
I think I have found the issue.  There is supposed to be a sheet that drops down to allow me to login with my AppleID.  But none is showing in the window.  I logoff, quit ARD, start ARD and connect again with the same issue.
Most times I can rectify the situation by logging out of ARD and connecting with VNC.  From then on ARD gets the signon sheet (until it hangs again). Occaisonally I have to reboot the machine.
Apple Remote Desktop Version 3.5.1
ARD CLient Version 3.5.2
Any ideas?

There is clearly enough memory and disk space (close to 50%).
I also wrote an app that showed a Sheet Dialog.  It worked.
Again logged out of ARD, used Chicken of the VNC, and it failed.  Went back to ARD and it then worked.
Why do you think kickstart will affect anything?  I can log in and out.

  • Does 10.9.2 make Messages and App Store crash?

Just updated from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2
After the initial reboot, I now can't open  Messages or App Store - both result in a full-on crash with a crash report.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Disk check and Permission Repair both come back clear.  Interestingly enough, Permissions Check shows no issues at all, and usually it always has something to show....especially in the way of iTunes.
    Thanks!

I also have a Cyberoam applience. Everything worked fine before 10.9.2. I use the cyberoam SSL CA Certificate installed on each computer instead of the client.
Mail, App Store, Safari, iTunes, and several other apps crash as soon as they are opened. 4 Macs all have the problem.
For now I have created a firewall rule with https scanning disabled for each computer.
No issue before (since 2008) with my setup and no issue with Windows or Linux.
It therefore indicates that OS 10.9.2 is not respecting the installed Cyberoam certificate and is therefore not complient with the industry standards.

  • For no reason Afaria App Store pop-up

    Hi,
At one of our customers a couple of iPhone users are getting a pop-up message if they'd like to install the Afaria client from the app store. We don't have Afaria running here and we don't centrally manage the iPhone. We just gave every user there iPhone and they can do with whatever they like to do with it.
Can anyone maybe help me why users are getting the Afaria pop-up from the App Store?
I'm stuck at this moment. Users can ignore the message (by pressing Cancel), but it's just annoying for them to get the message and I'm wondering why they get it.
Many, many, many thanks in advance for any effort given to help me.
    All the best,
    Quincy

Then I suggest you read this thread regarding the 30" Apple Cinema Display and that particular message pop up... several possible causes... common denominator, the display.

  • App Store subscription policy

    Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding the latest App store subscription policy changes.
The business model of my company is as follows:
I am selling a service to my clients (outside the app store), and my clients refer their customers to the app store to download my app (for free).
My app would be available for everyone for download, but only the customers of my clients would have the username/password to login and use the app.
(Other app store users who download the app wouldn't be able to pass the login page)
Is this a violation of App Store terms and conditions and my app is about to be rejected because I am selling my service outside the app store?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

This is a user to user tech support forum for Apple products, not a developer forum. You need to ask that directly of Apple. I doubt that such an app would be approved if everyone cannot download and immediately use the app.

  • Mac doesnt accept apps other than the app store

So after i got my new macbook pro, i been having multiple problems installing software. its notorious for me that you guys want to monopolize the market and at the same time make more money. so my next problem on the infinite list of problems is that i want to install filezilla which is the ftp client i always use and now the awesome mavericks tells me its from an unknown developer and doesnt let me run the software. this is really getting on my nerves. whay do i do now? pay 33 dollars for a ft client on the app store? why? why cant i get filezilla? why do i have to pay for something i can get it for free? mountain lion is discontinued from the app store so again, i imagine those milloins of people that got the system to later find out you are giving away maverick for free. and i cant even download it because it dissapeared. at this point i am disgusted with apple. i been a customer for over 30 years and i spent more than 40 thousand dollars with computers and laptos and i find this a big disrespect!!!

That's caused by Gatekeeper > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5290 To open your apps, simply right-click them and select Open. You only have to do this the first time you open them.
Another option would be to go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General, and choose “Anywhere” under “Allow applications downloaded from”. This is the fastest way to do it

  • App Store hangs (not responding)

I am trying to use the App Store to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mountain Lion (10.8). When I open the App Store and sign in using my Apple ID, I can click on the "OS X Mountain Lion" link. This shows a new page with a button that says $19.99. When I click that button, the button changes to "Buy App". When I click the Buy App button, the App Store hangs with the spinning ball icon after about 20 seconds. I left it alone for over 2 hours, and it remained hung. I have searched user forums and tried a few things. Nothing has worked. Here are some things I have tried, with no success.
+ turned off Spotlight (some forums mentioned that was an issue)
+ unplugged my external USB drive for Time Machine backups
    + re-booted into safe mode
+ removed all directories inside /var/folders
    + removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    + removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    + removed ~/Library/Application\ Support/AppStore
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/storeagent
I asked Apple support, and they said, "You must upgrade to Lion first, then Mountain Lion, but unfortunately Lion is not available for download. Please visit your local Apple store for help." So, I drove out to the nearest Apple store. The assistant there told me it is NOT necessary to upgrade to Lion first. They asked me to bring my iMac into the store to have a look.. what a hassle. So I replied back to Apple support, who then asked me to call their support number. I called, then hung up when they said "this call will cost you $20".
Anyone out there smart enough to solve this puzzle?

No, there is no direct download link. Those are days of the past, I'm afraid. You may need to reinstall Mavericks.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Hi,
Install the v10.6.7 combo update available here.

Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.

  • App store hang-ups

I've only had my iPad for a week but have already had a couple of problems with the app store. This morning, when I tried to download a couple of apps, the waiting box would just show up on the home screen with a blank loading bar. The same was true for an update I tried to install. Similarly, last week at the app store, anytime I tried to navigate somewhere I would just get a white screen with "Loading" and the spinning rays with no progress. In both cases, things seemed back to normal 15 minutes later or so. Also, in both cases, there were no problems with my wifi - I checked that. Are these kinds of hang ups and freezes normal for the store, or could there be some sort of problem with my iPad causing this?

I did a reset, which didn't immediately solve anything. The problem just disappeared about 15 minutes after it started. I wouldn't think it's a hardware problem since other apps and Internet connectivity all seemed to be working at top speed while the app store problem was happening. I guess I was curious if other people had experienced app problems in their time with their ipads.

  • App Store always hangs

    Hi
My app store always hangs if i try to install new software. I am able to go directly to the updates section and install from there yet if i try to search for apps to insall or follow go directly to a apps page to install it always shows the beachball.
I would like to install an application but am stuck as this is the only way it seems.
Anyone had a similar problem ?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • App Store hanging on upgrade to Mountain Lion from 10.6.8

I've got a Mac Pro (shown as version 3,1 in System Profiler) which is running 10.6.8 Server and I'm trying to get it to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately when I click on the "Buy App" button - or even if I click on the "Updates" button - the App Store application spins the progress icon for a little bit, but then hangs with the basketball of death. In the end I have to force-quit it - even leaving it for several hours doesn't help.
I've tried booting the Mac in to safe mode, resetting the NVRAM and similar - all to no avail. The host can reach the internet with no issues - I can see the initial app page, find the Mac OSX Mountain Lion page, etc. Its only after I've clicked the button to purchase the software that it hangs. I've tried booting it into the Apple Hardware Test, via holding down D at bootup, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
Anyone got any ideas of how to proceed from here ? I've got a sinking feeling that the host will end up just staying at 10.6.8!

Thanks for poking me to look at the console logs! That led me to find the error message:
    App Store[762] <Error>: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x112f90060
Which in turn pointed me to https://discussions.apple.com/message/15431640#15431640
Renabling Spotlight (see http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/10/disable-or-enable-spotlight-in-mac-os-x-lion/ ) allowed the App Store to work again!
Just why the App Store requires Spotlight to work is beyond me.

  • Previewing DPS apps, on-device, for client approval prior to Publication via App Store

We're using Adobe's DPS to create simple tools and documentation for various health-care products.
Our client is a global Ad Agency. Their client is a HealthCare company.
They eventually want to publish these 'apps' via the Apple App Store, but, currently just want to demo these apps to:
    1. Their client, in a number of countries
    2. A number of global Ad Agency offices & staff
Is there a way, before publishing to the App store, we can share the app, on iPads, to a number of people (probably less than 100) for approval and review, without them having to own the DPS or be subscribers to Adobe Creative Cloud?

Yes, get them to download 'Adobe Content Viewer' from the App store.
You can then give them a username and password to login and view the preview.
Theres a little more setup require such as users and Adobe accounts.  But I'm sure you can find a tutorial on here or ask for more advice.

  • Mac App Store hanges

I installed 10.6.6 and the App store hanges I am unable to perches apps. I am loged in on my account but when I hit the buy button I get the spinning colored wheel and that's it. I have to force quit App store to get out. I have a early 09 MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions? I did uninstall and reinstall the App store but still the same problem.

    Hi,
    Install the v10.6.6 Combo Updae
    Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

    Hello IgorLimansky,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that on March 11th you were unable to connect to the App Store in order to download XCode.  The iTunes Store services were experiencing issues at that time, which includes Game Center services, iTunes Store, App Store, and the iBooks Store.  You can see the history of the downtime in the link below for March 11.  If you continue to have issues connecting, please let me know.

  • Can I fool the Mac App Store into thinking my mini runs Snow Leopard Client rather than server?

I've googled this to death and can't find an answer because, well, Google ain't all its cracked up to be.
I highly object to Apple forcing you to pay for both Lion Client & Server if you have a server model Mac. Especially seeing as Lion Server software is just an app that sits on top of standard Lion, and that you can remove/disable it anyway. I bought a Mini from a chap in Hong Kong purely because it was way more powerful for the price than any Mini's available running a client OS here in the UK. I have no intention of learning to use the server side products, its not an interest and never will be. Plus some of the ways in which OS X 10.6 server operates gets on my nerves because of the control the server has over certain functions.
I'm happy to go through the process of a fresh install of retail Snow Leopard firest IF I really have to as it's cheaper than Lion & Lion Server, but ultimately it's just £26 spent for the sake of it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a system file that can be tweaked so when the App Store checks my OS version, it doesn't see server, only standard Snow Leopard?
Having read the online instructionals on how to move and save the download files and then perform a fresh install from a boot device (as the upgrade under the above circumstances would likely wreck the system) I'm living in hope I don't need to go through retail Snow Leopard first.
    Thanks all!

Probably the best idea although do read their Terms Of Use first. Do realize that anybody here who answers your question is in contravention of the YOU as much as you would be for posing the question.
    But good luck
    Pete
