"client node" on desktop

After updating to Mac OS X 10.6 a new file "client node" appeared on my desktop. This file cannot be moved or delete. Does anybody know what this file is?
Thanks in advance !!!

Yep, same here. Had one. Went away on a restart. Today, on power up, two "client node" files on the desktop. Argh!

  • File named "client node" appears on desktop

    I was have some problems earlier with a very, very slow MacBookPro which wouldn't shut down. Every program interrupted Log Out. When I finally restarted, a file named "client node" appeared on my Desktop. It's a quite large file (1.23G). I tried to trash it, but Trash won't accept it. Is it important, can it be thrown out?

    If you still have that file you might find useful advice in this older discussion thread:

  • Client node

    My new 27" iMac has two icons that appeared on my desktop and I have no idea where they've come from. Both are labeled "Client node", neither have any info associated with them, and both are un-deleteable. One is a file and the other appears to be a drive of some sort. Any ideas?

    If you restart, or just log out and log back in, do they still appear? There was another thread mentioning the same "client node" thing. The poster said it went away after a restart or logout (something that restarts Finder so you could also try a Force Quit of Finder).

  • IMac HD icon became "client node" then disappeared

    I noticed a few days ago that the iMac HD icon renamed itself “client node” on my desktop then the icon disappeared completely after restarting. I was able to put an iMac HD alias on my desktop so I can access my HD files, but now Time Machine is not backing anything up. It goes through the backup process every hour as set, but there is nothing being backed up on Time Machine since the iMac HD disappeared from my desktop.
    What is this “client node” thing (what happened???) and where is my HD icon?
    So far I’ve run Cocktail, repaired permissions, relaunched the Finder, restarted my iMac, shut my iMac down overnight and booted it up in the morning. Still missing the HD icon (and HD files).
    When I click on the HD icon in the sidebar, the HD alias shows a grayed-out HD icon in the list of HDs (my iDisk, iMac HD alias, Network, & Time Machine). I can access the HD files through the HD alias, but where did the actual HD icon go, and how do I get it back?

    I think what may have happened is that your HD  somehow acquired a "hidden" flag, making it invisible to Finder. I have seen a "client node" icon appear on the Desktop transiently when I have deliberately made a disk volume invisible using a Terminal command.  The "client node" icon disappeared if I then relaunched the Finder. I'm not sure what it represents - it may just be a transient Finder "ghost" of an object which has just become "hidden".
    To restore visibility to your startup disk, I would try the following:
    Launch the Terminal - it is  /Applications/Utilities. Next copy-paste the following line into the Terminal window, followed by typing <Return> :
    sudo chflags nohidden /
    Enter your admin password at the prompt (it will not echo on the screen) and again type <Return>.
    Do you now see the HD icon?

  • Error when uninstalling App-V RDS client: Product: Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) Client for Remote Desktop Services 5.0 Service Pack 2 x64 -- Error 1324. The folder path 'C:' contains an invalid character

    Issue:  experienced when attempting to uninstall the App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS client.
    Event Log:  Product: Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) Client for Remote Desktop Services 5.0 Service Pack 2 x64 -- Error 1324. The folder
    path 'C:' contains an invalid character
    Symptoms (when in this current state):
    Unable to uninstall the SP2 client
    You can upgrade the client (via hotfix) and uninstall the hotfix, but you will not be able to remove the SP2 client
    AppvVfs filter driver will not create an instance, therefore applications will not be able to read into existing streamed VFS content, or trigger sparse files to stream content.  (you can still stream the content via other means, like the UI or powershell)
    Because of the AppvVfs filter driver not instantiating, applications that depend on licences that exist in VFS will not be able to be read causing certain applications to react as if the license does not exist or is an incorrect format

    Resolution:
    Check for the existence of a hidden folder named %appdata% in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Virtualization\Client folder.  (You will need to un-check the folder options box in windows explorer for "Hide
    protected operating system files" to see it)
    If the hidden %appdata% folder exists, delete it.
    Proceed to uninstall the App-V client
    After a clean uninstall and removal of remnants of the client, reinstall the client again and apply the latest hotfix available (Hotfix 2 for SP2 at a minimum).

  • MI Client Component on Desktop PC

    Hi all,
    i'm currently evaluating MI for building an relatively complex application for a customer. Many of the major application requirements like offline usage, own database (business logic), data sync on demand with multiple backends, Browser based UI etc. pp. are already fulfilled by MI.
    The only doubt i have so far is, that most of the devices in the productive system will not be PDAs nor Laptops, but "standard" Desktop PCs.
    So my question is:
    Are there reasons not to use the MI client component on Desktop PCs like limitations which apply to mobile devices and would not be acceptable for Desktop PCs?
    Thanks in advance
    Stefan

    Hi Gregor,
    it's simply a matter of customer's application requirements and license model. The application has to work offline and online. Parts of it will be transferred to PDAs in the future (also working in both modes). If the application license expires, the user must have the possibility to view the application data in the client database for 10 more years without having the possibility to access the centralized data store. The user can reactivate his account and more.
    So instead of reinventing the wheel i'm thinking about using the MI Client Component as client's infrastructure for that.
    Thanks and regards
    Stefan

  • Error while configuring iscsi client node using udev for RAC on linux

    Hi All,
    I am setting up iSCSI on Oracle Enterprise Linux referring the document "+Build Your Own Oracle RAC Cluster on Oracle Enterprise Linux and iSCSI+" posted on OTN by Jeffrey Hunter.
    After configuring the iscsi service on iscsi client node, the symbolic link iscsi under the /dev folder is not created when the iscsi and udev service is started.
    Created the following UNIX shell script /etc/udev/scripts/iscsidev.sh on iscsi client node:
    #!/bin/sh
    # FILE: /etc/udev/scripts/iscsidev.sh
    BUS=${1}
    HOST=${BUS%%:*}
    [ -e /sys/class/iscsi_host ] || exit 1
    file="/sys/class/iscsi_host/host${HOST}/device/session*/iscsi_session*/targetname"
    target_name=$(cat ${file})
    # This is not an open-scsi drive
    if [ -z "${target_name}" ]; then
    exit 1
    fi
    # Check if QNAP drive
    check_qnap_target_name=${target_name%%:*}
    if [ $check_qnap_target_name = "iqn.2004-04.com.qnap" ]; then
    target_name=`echo "${target_name%.*}"`
    fi
    echo "${target_name##*.}"
    Following message is seen in the /var/log/messages:
    +May 2 17:10:44 rashida1 udevd-event[15897]: run_program: exec of program '/etc/udev/scripts/iscsidev.sh' failed+

    [root@rashida1 scripts]# sh iscsidev.sh 2

    But this input/argument value is supposed to be passed internally to the udev daemon. And its value will keep on varying.
    Please advice how I should proceed.
    Regards.

    I modified the iscsidev.sh on OEL6 as below and it worked for me:
    #!/bin/bash
    BUS=${1}
    HOST=${BUS%%:*}
    LID=`echo ${BUS}|awk -F":" '{print $NF}'`
    [ -e /sys/class/iscsi_host ] || exit 1
    if [ -f /sys/class/iscsi_host/host${HOST}/device/session*/iscsi_session*/targetname ]
    then
    file="/sys/class/iscsi_host/host${HOST}/device/session*/iscsi_session*/targetname"
    else
    file="/sys/class/iscsi_host/host${HOST}/device/session*/iscsi_session/session*/targetname"
    fi
    target_name=$(cat ${file})
    # This is not an open-scsi drive
    if [ -z "${target_name}" ]; then
    exit 1
    fi
    # Check if QNAP drive
    check_qnap_target_name=${target_name%%:*}
    if [ $check_qnap_target_name = "iqn.2004-04.com.qnap" ]; then
    target_name=`echo "${target_name%.*}"`
    fi
    echo "${target_name##*.}"
    LUN=`echo $target_name|awk -F":" '{print $NF}'`
    echo `date` $0 $* ${LUN}_${LID}
    } >>/tmp/udev_getlun.log
    echo ${LUN}_${LID}
    Now restart iscsi service
    service iscsi stop
    service iscsi start
    Wait for 2-3minutes,
    check /var/log/messages file and do a listing using ls -ltr /dev/iscsi/*
    Reboot the server and do the checks again
    At this stage, you will see the list of persistent devices.
    Please confirm if it resolves your issue.
    Thanks

  • Easy print not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1

    Easy print is not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1 . Printers dont get redirected when you connect to the terminal server. The server we are connecting to has Windows 2008 server.  On 32 bit Windows
    7 and windows XP clients Easy print is working fine and printers get redirected in terminal server.

    I am having the exact same problem. Windows 7 works fine, but 8.1 will not redirect printers. Others said to check local policy terminal services settings and my setting are all set as they should.
    I think Windows 8.1 is not telling the terminal server what printers it has.

    Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
    If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
    If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it; this may also happen for a flash drive which is about to fail.
    If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

    Is it possible to disable some popups from FEP Client on the desktop. But how to disable popups from real time protection. This is so that end users who are non technical are not disturbed and only the I.T is aware of the viruses in teh environment.Shahid Roofi

    You could set policies which when a malware detected an action perform automatically without user interaction but there is no GPO which stop the notification, one reason could be that when notification keep appearing, then user will know something is wrong
    otherwise why FEP should display any warning.

  • Viewing Leopard Clients Via ARD - Desktop Picture is locked?

    Anyone notice the Leopard desktop background via ARD is always that default purple space picture, even those the real desktop pic may be something different?
    I also noticed that you cant change the desktop pic of a remote Mac via ARD. It uses the file located in /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
    What's really bad about this is the simple fact that the "space" image looks horrible via ARD and slows down the sessions too.
    Try it yourself: go to a Mac and change the desktop pic manually from the console (sitting at the Mac). Then go to another Mac with ARD Admin installed and view the original Mac (client) via ARD. Weird huh?

    maybe its because my g4 isn't actually connected to a monitor that a desktop picture isn't shown...its basically a headless mac just used for storage and sometimes as a node in Logic but it is totally controlled by ARD. Under tiger it was ok so maybe its just a leopard thing

  • T5325 Thin Clients losing remote desktop connection

    My company just bought about 50 of these thin clients and they are setup to run an automatic remote desktop connection. I have the connection setup to auto start when the thin client is powered on and it just brings the user to a windows login screen. After they have logged in and leave their thin client to go on break sometimes it just brings them to a blank screen with an HP logo and the thin client has to be restarted to get back into the remote desktop, or I have to go into admin and restart the RDP connection. Any idea why this is happening? Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
    Any help would be great!

    We are having this same issue and it is maddening.  I have contacted HP on several occasions and I don't know if it is the language barrier or simple ignorance, but so far the issue is ongoing.  I have looked high and low on the net and no one seems to be able to tell me why this is happening despite a number of plausible theories.  We have a couple hundred terminals throughout the company which are spread across three servers none of which are close to congested yet..  However, the 10 or so t5325's we have are used specifically for digital signage.  They run automated sessions that launch animated JAVA windows.  They run great for the most part, but seemingly at random they will freeze in their tracks.  The sessions drop from our terminal server and cannot be restarted remotely.  After the units are power cycled they come back up directly and begin their sessions again.  You can shadow these units (VNC) and the moment the display come on the unit closes the RDP session and reopens the same and start running again, odd behavior.  I have tried changing session logout timers, disabling / enabling TCP settings, creating client-side refresh scripts, restarting the sessions at regular intervals via admin script, flashing BIOS and ThinPro OS to the current level, voodoo rituals, and pagan sacrifice.  Yet, they still behave in exactly the same manner with no actions on my part having any apparent affect..  Currently, I am of the mind to purchase small all-in-one pc's to do the job.  If anyone knows of any way to fix this PLEASE respond to this post.

  • UPC fonts in crystal runtime reset after fresh logging into SAP B1 desktop client?

    Dear Experts,
    I have a client who has SAP version: Business One 8.82 (8.82.069) PL: 06 Hotfix2 and Crystal Reports version: 12.1.0.892 Product Type: Full.
    They have a shipping report that is printed from production module. They needed UPC barcodes on the report. The achieved that through IDAutomation Fonts. The crystal report uses the IDAutomation Function that takes the field and converts and the font is IDAutomation Font that shows the fields are barcodes.
    This repeated works when logged into SAP server using specific id.
    IDAutionation is installed on SAP Server.
    Here is the problem?
    The shipping users have a desktop which has SAP B1 client. That desktop also has IDAutomation fonts installed.
    Shipping personnel logs into SAP B1 with the same id that worked on SAP Server, the report prints okay just the first time after it was saved in SAP Server through crystal report edit and save. Next time they log out of SAP client and log back in with same shipper ID, the report does not pick up the UPC IDAutionation fonts. It comes out as some stange text.
    The fonts are present in control panel fonts on both server and desktop.
    I called IDAutiomation support, they could not help besides saying, put the fonts on both server and client, which I have already done. He also said, there were crystal report runtime issues with fonts?
    Could someone help me out here. What am I missing? I even tried installing full crystal report on the desktop and it did not get resolved. Customer is quite desperate to get this resolved.
    Thank you,
    Syed
